This crazy jumble of Irish pub and Mexican food is just what you need on a cold night. Or even a warm night. The menu is not all that large but the food is good. I loved the Reuben spring rolls, though after ordering them a couple times I can no longer eat them, just too heavy for me. The Mexicali burger is good, as is the black bean soup. And it is here that I met my favorite drink on tap, Downeaster's pumpkin cider. They have eight or ten beers on tap, always changing. The chips and salsa are pretty good, too. Parking is not an issue here, which is one of the reasons we decided to try it. When we walked in, we weren't sure whether to seat ourselves or wait to be seated because no one greeted us for the first minute or so. We wished they had a drink menu because we didn't get a clear answer about what drinks to order. The waitress told us they had everything. She was friendly, personable, and attentive and the drinks were great. The atmosphere was perfect for our Saturday night. The combo of Mexican and Irish vibe is incredibly charming. We stayed much longer than planned because we enjoyed it so much. The live music was awesome! It wasn't too loud and we could still talk but we def stopped talking to listen. We appreciated that the crowd was a nice mix of people, not all college students, not all old couples. The food and drinks were excellent. You won't find better bar food in the area. I had the Dubliner with fries, both very tasty and a pleasing presentation. My friends had tacos and Lost in Mexico Burrito, both recommended. The tacos were crafted with homemade corn tortillas and the steak was cooked perfectly, topped with fresh cilantro. Everything was homemade and delicious. Right. So, I have been to Juan Murphy's a bunch of times now - and it's always pretty great. For bar food, you'd be pretty hard pressed to find a better option around here. They have a great set of taps with interesting and cool beers. The atmosphere is total Irish pub, and you can get a really good plate of fish and chips...or, if you prefer, some terrific tacos! My friend swears by the Mexicali burger, and suggests that there's no reason to stray and investigate any other options on the menu, no matter how delicious they look. I disagree, and try something different every time -- and have yet to be disappointed. The reuben spring rolls are totally rockin', too. And...they pour the freshest pint of Guinness in the county. Plenty of seating, large bar area, TVs and a dart board in the back. Comfortable and quiet atmosphere (but this was also a Monday night - sans Monday night football) There's a pretty decent draft beer list available (went with a Troegs) and some Margaritas if you're into that sort of thing. Menu items that stood out to me included fish and chips tacos, corned beef spring rolls, and a bowl of chilli served with tortilla chips for dipping. Wasn't feeling overly adventurous so I went with a chicken and bacon ranch panini. Pretty decent but could have used a bit more bacon (can there ever bee too much). I'd probably try the fish and chips tacos next go round The place is definitely worth checking out for a night out of food and drinks. Bands frequent here on the weekends (with Vassar nearby it's a typical college bar scene). Juan's is a great spot! They have live music Every Friday and Saturday. They have trivia night and bingo night, they always try to have something going on. Lia and her brother always make you feel like family. Food is always yummy and large portionS. If you follow their insta, they post a calendar of events for the month, so you can see Monday specials, who's playing live, game nights etc. read more

I'll admit it, I probably fell in love before I walked through the door when I read, "Irish Pub, Mexican Grub". Juan Murphy's is a solid bar and restaurant. They have an amazing beer menu and even offer flights. The food is creative and high quality. Their hamburgers are made with Pat LaFrieda meat. It was such a good burger I couldn't help but make the same noises my dog makes when you rub his ears. And the place is adorable - big open bar, with nice intimate rooms and nooks. My girlfriend and I are true foodies. We travel often and I have to say, that when she found Juan Murphy's, a mix of Irish Pub/Mexican Grub (their slogan), I was leery. We were there on the first Saturday in October. OK, it seemed odd to see burritos, bangers, tacos and corned beef/cabbage all on the same menu. My hesitation was not founded. The food was exceptional, and very flavorful. Good portions and nicely priced. The atmosphere was truly like an old school Irish Pub, light and not too loud. The drinks were great and again, priced well. I was equally surprised to find out that our waitress was the owner. Keeping the pulse on your place is so smart and valuable. We went to the cider mill for tasting today and the guy from Juan Murphys (not sure owner or manager) gave us little cards with a buy one get one cider. So we went over to have lunch and we were so pleasantly surprised! Not only do they have a brilliant selection on tap, but the food is delicious. I got the grilled chicken burrito and hubby got shepherds pie and we had pumpkin ciders. All sooo good. Kelly was working and was perfectly attentive and helpful and sweet. Earlier, I posted a negative review referencing an incident that occurred last week during Open Mic Night. A very crude joke about sexual violence was told and a patron objected vociferously. My comment was in support of that patron. The owner contacted me as did the sponsor of the Open Mic event. Their notes were polite, informative, and congenial. Additionally, the patron herself contacted me. She is pleased with the manner in which the situation was resolved. To wit, I not only retract my earlier review but proffer a sincere apology to all involved. The owners of Juan Murphy have taken decisive action and demonstrated a commitment to the comfort of all customers. When I return to Poughkeepsie in April, I will visit Juan Murphy. read more

Went in on Friday night for a drink with my husband and a friend. We loved this spot when it was The Dubliner, and we were happy to hear it had reopened. The place looks the same, with a couple of changes here and there, but overall it retains that pub charm. The service leaves a lot to be desired, though. I asked the woman behind the bar to describe the Newburgh Cream Ale to me, and she couldn't. She asked her co-worker to come over and describe it, and he declined, saying, "tell him it's a cream ale from Newburgh." Um, okay. Got that much from the board; thanks. On top of that, my friend's beer came out a sloppy mess with the head running down the sides of the glass. And from where we sat, we could see that the Guinness tap was clearly a bit wonky - it hissed air whenever it was used, the beer came out looking like a frothy chocolate milkshake, and instead of fixing it, the bartenders just let the beers sit until they looked "normal" before serving them. The Dubliner, it is not. I think I'll pass on going back to try them for dinner. read more

Juan Murphy's has good bar food. I enjoyed the warm goat cheese salad, pretzel bites, and nachos. The lettuce in the salad was too big to fit in my mouth, but the combination of pesto, goat cheese, and hazelnuts was delicious. The nachos were good, although they forgot to put on the refried beans. The margaritas were quite good. All in all I enjoyed my first Juan Murphy's experience. Good service and atmosphere. read more

Hi! So I found this pub on Yelp. It got really good reviews. I liked pubs so I wasn't disappointed when I walked in. I love creature comforts and the cyst seating was heavenly!!! Our party of 4 we're all satisfied with our dishes. I believe that everything is homemade. I had the beer battered fish. The portion was a good size and it comes with what is called smashy peas. To die for. Our server, Kelly, was a doll and made the experience complete. Definitely going back there. P. S. We didn't stay for the band but I wish we could have. Ok so it's an Irish/Mexican joint. I admit I was intrigued. Well, get intrigued because this is not your normal pub good. Great selection of beers, ciders and ales. The food is superb. I was here for open mic a year ago and the bartender was not a joy at all. He actually embarrassed me in front of other patrons. He inspected my South Carolina ID like I would really come in this establishment with a fake one. Do their customers not come from other states? He even went as far as having another patron inspect my ID because for whatever reason (hoping it's not because of my skin color). He was very sarcastic about it also. We were a fan of the Irish restaurant that was at that location prior to Juan Murphy's opening. Since I am also a fan of Mexican food, mu husband and I decided to give it a try. They had only been open a week and our waitress was new, so there was some confusion with my soup, but that is not enough to stop us from going back. The food was outstanding. We had the stout onion soup, irish smoked salmon gratin, the Dubliner and we took the chicken bacon ranch Panini home to our son. Everything was so delicious, I stopped back to take home the black bean soup and the chili. Again delicious! Both times the owner stopped by, welcomed us and thanked us for coming. We were in town for a soccer game at Vassar college and needed a place to eat. I was in the mood for Mexican food and looked it up on gps. It sent us to Main Street to a restaurant that no longer exists and we found Juan Murphy's. Nice atmosphere and great selection of drinks at the bar. Food variety was good and service was too. The owner came over to table and mentioned they just opened on Saturday. I think they are off to a great start... I would recommend to others and when back in town, I will revisit. read more

New owners have put a creative twist on the old Irish pub that stood here for years. They did a beautiful job of cleaning it up -- it's immaculate. Great selection of craft beers We only ordered a few nibbles but all was fresh and delicious. Salsa was way too mild for us, though a great chunky texture that you can NOT get from a jar. No problem: we were offered fresh jalepenos and a variety of hot sauces to heat it up to our liking. Crusted friend pepperjack sticks were so delicious, too... Kid-friendly, with a special and very well priced menu for them. We were able to go there and kids had fun playing foosbal in the back while we enjoyed the game at the bar. Everyone was happy. A good time. The place is just getting going and I think they will beef up their entertainment (darts? billiards??), but the atnosphere is super friendly and just great.
