The dim sum was fresh and good, there is a good variety of choices. Their crab fried rice was huge and delicious.

I gave it a 4 star only since it's Dallas. If it was in LA (San Gabriel, Rowloand Hts, Alhambra area) I would of given this place a 3 star. The dim sum was too greasy for my taste. Service was so-so. I visited today with a friend and our teens. It was lunch time, so I expected a wait....no problem. Once seated it took about 20 minutes before anyone came to our table....I wanted to leave and later wished that I did. Food was just ok. ..nothing special. Felt like we were bothering them. Forced conversation when asking what each item was when they were giving us our food. This was only my 2nd time trying dim sum. I will not go back to the place. Now they were talkative when the bill came. I opted to not tip based on my experience and she was not happy about that but she did not make a scene. I'm usually a good tipper. This restaurant , located in North Central Plano, has a decor , which is typical for a strip center.. bland and austere..... but the food was not.....I had the Mu Shu Chicken, which was of course, too much to eat and to take about half of it home.....there were very few people inside, and it was very quiet.....no alcoholic beverages were available...... read more

We went for lunch during the week and had the lunch dim sum combination plus shrimp egg rolls, pan fried dumplings, and sesame balls. The lunch combination was really nice because we got to try a few things like dumplings and a barbecue pork bun which I loved! It also came with soup and rice. The shrimp egg rolls were one of our favorites but neither of us disliked anything we tried. There were so many other things on the menu we would have loved to try as well. Don't let the word BBQ fool you. This is not your typical Texas BBQ restaurant. What Chen has is Chinese style BBQ, AKA pork and ribs Char Siu style BBQ... the kind that leaves your fingertips red if u should choose to use them. Seafood and garlic flake fried rice was pretty good, pork char siu was also good if you like a lot of fat !!! My Mom ordered Won Ton soup--broth was okay. No special request at this restaurant (we asked for less noodle in the Won Ton as my Mom likes more broth than carbs, but server said "No can do," we had to take the soup as it is... bad sign, but we went along because of starvation. As expected... lotsa noodles left behind and the soup bowl dried to the bone & full of Min/Ramen/Noodle left uneaten. The best part about this restaurant is their Dim Sum, to be specific: Pork/Shrimp dim sum or pork/shrimp Shumai... you can ask for it pan fried or they come in a steamer (healthier and better for you,of course). The worst part about this place: The Server who asked my Mother if she was planning on leaving a tip as my Mother paid for the bill (I was still eating with the rest of the party). Talk about courtesy --there were none. Most of the food tasted great, but it lacked on service and niceness. Oh lordy am I elated to have found this place. It is the best chinese food near us ( Allen, tx) I dont even know how to order from the rest of their menu but just their bbq alone makes me want to keep coming back. This is our closest Dim Sum place and it is slowly replacing our dearly missed Arc en Ciel . Their food is fresh and yummy, it just feels right. This place have good dim sum and the foods are tasty. There's no lines, but it doesn't have that much of an option like Kirin Court. The services are bad here. Our waitress never stop by and check on us. The two times I see her is when she asked for drinks and the bill. I think here is cheaper than Kirin Court. We went with 6 adults and 3 kids and we only paid $120, which is not bad for that many people. read more

Great substitute to Kirin Court in Richardson. Been going here awhile with family and friends and it is such an amazing dim sum restaurant. My favorite is the bbq pork steam buns! Visiting the Big D and craving real dim sum so we trekked out to Plano. The Shao Mai, Hai gao, bean curd rolls and Chinese broccoli, rice porridge were fresh and tasty. This is as authentic as it gets. The winner was the Lotus-wrapped sticky rice which was amazing! Many places wrap them in 2 portions which results in very little filling but JS Chen serves it as one large wrapped packet. It is chock-full of meat and Chinese sausage. We were able to share it amongst 5 very hungry lunchers. My sister and family are planning on making special trips out from Abilene every couple of months and will definitely be making a point of enjoying dim sum here. 10 thumbs up from the 5 of us! read more

Pretty cool experience! You order off of carts, so you can see what you are ordering before you decide to get it. The shrimp dumplings are a must-try! BBQ pork is not too shabby, either. There was one rice and meat dish that was just o.k., but everything else was quite good! read more

I.heard so much about this place and their dimsum. Is this.a.joke? I had.lunch, the.servers look disheleved and lost. Noisy children running around. The shrimp fun roll and shrimp ball were both severely overcooked. The soup I ordered was lukewarm. The servers.were yelling across the room. This was our second time there and it was almost empty, again. I wondered why the first time, but I guess know, I now why. We ordered chicken lo mein, shrimp and pork dumplings and steamed BBQ buns. The waiter was rude and I had to ask for the check 4 times. Lo mein was great, steamed BBQ buns were good. The shrimp and pork dumplings were undercooked and smelled bad. I told the lady of the register that the service was bad and the dumplings undercooked and she said, "Ok". Ok? Really? I will never go there again. Bad, bad, service. Authentic chinese restaurant. If you don't believe me, try to get a seat here at brunch on sundays. I went early on a sunday 11am for my first dim sum experience. All the food was fresh and I got to try a lot of different things for $15pp. I have been here for dinner. They were just about to close bu they still welcomed us in. Always a fun trip here for dimsum. Favorites: shrimp and chives dumpling, steamed pork buns, baked pork buns. non dimsum: the mongolian beef and the crispy noodles are really good. The perfect amount of noodles are left crunchy. Sodas (or at least Dr. Pepper) are served by the can. Highly recommend it. It's worth the longish drive for us. They have the best Dim Sum I've ever had. The wait staff are very kind and courteous and the food and atmosphere is exceptional. The decor is not the usual tacky red and gold with cats and dragons. It's modernized and very peaceful; not real 'busy' on the eyes. The kitchen is clean and the chef has exceptional skill with the glutenous rice dumpling dough. I love it! We usually go to Maxims but a friend told us about this place. My wife and I went on Sunday after church (around 1pm) and the wait was not horrible, but the place caters to large groups. After being seated, we waited a about 10 minutes before we actually were offered anything. The food itself was very good. The portions were slightly bigger than Maxims, but overall, it was pretty much the same. Any dim sum restaurant will be busy on Sunday afternoon, but the entire experience from the wait to the service was not worth the slightly bigger portions. If you have a favorite place but want to try something new, stick with what you know. read more

We were in town at our old stomping grounds and decided to give this place a try. We ordered some xiumai and fried shrimp balls from the dimsum menu as appetizers. For entrees we ordered the recommended Peking duck, Singapore noodles and snow pea leaves. The first order of xiumai came out under cooked. We informed the waiter and he apologized and took it back. Moments later other order of the xiumai and shrimp balls came out, both looked good. Upon first taste, the xiumai was average; the shrimp ball was below average, they had too much corn starch mixed in and not enough shrimp so that makes the consistency too soft. The snow pea leaves was cooked just right with the right amount of heat. The shrimp in the Singapore Noodle were a good size, however the flavor is lacking. So it all depended on the Peking duck to savage the dining experience here. The duck came out with the buns steaming hot. I made the first one with the sauce, a couple of pieces of duck and a stalk of green onion bulb. The bun is not as tasty as all the other places I've been to and the duck is cold, I guess that's why the bun was piping hot! Overall the duck was average, below my expectations from all the previous reviews. The steam rice that came with the meal tasted funny as well, there was a hint of gas smell in it as if they used some sort of gas rice cooker. Do they even make such a device? The service here is so-so. Better than a typical Chinese establishment, but still far below the standards you'd expect at an American restaurant. The overall experience was just average. It's not a place I would recommend. I won't take my family here. read more

Eat at Maxim's instead. The service has always been mediocre at JS Chen, but today it was terrible. We waited 15 mins for someone to take our drink order. After half an hour there were still no food carts. I asked the server twice, and each time she promised to send someone over. After 40 minutes I asked to speak to the manager. Her reply was that they were just very busy and next time I came in I should ask for her. If a restaurant is too busy to serve customers, then I guess they don't need any more. We left and went to Maxim's. At Maxim's, we were seated promptly and within seconds of being seated, we were served drinks and surrounded by food carts. Everything was hot and delicious, and the waiter checked on us continuously to refresh drinks and ask if we needed anything else. Cannot recommend JS Chen for dimsum. read more

Dirty, Below average food for dinner, and even worse service. While dining with a party of 11 and only 2 other tables in the restaurant this is by far an excuse for a Chinese restaurant. I had read previous reviews from other patrons, but the quality and taste of the food and the service was absolutely horrendous. Look it up on the city health report. read more
