    half BBQ DUCK
    Scott T.

now that over the last couple of weeks I've eaten my way through nearly half the menu , it's probably time I wrote a review. WOWZA. really delicious. I understand these guys are a chain which makes the amazing eats that much more surprising. dumplings: have had the FRIED PORK BUNS, the SHRIMP and PORK SHUMAI, and the PORK SOUP DUMPLINGS. all were amazing. the SHUMAI were the best I've ever had (and I've had a lot) and ordered them on two of our three visits. dipped everything in Sichuan red chili oil, light soy, and black vinegar mixed at the table from the condiment set-up. the eighteen-year boy (man, they grow up fast, don't they?) had the HALF BBQ DUCK was another outstanding dish. moist and flavorful, not the almost duck jerky served at most places. the Sichuan-style HOT BOILED FISH is one of my favorites and I nearly always get it when it shows up on a menu. theirs is a bright, spicy, and well executed. my favorite dish was the EGGPLANT in Sichuan sauce with ground pork. anyway, pretty sure I'm going to be a regular. it's nice not having to drive three-quarters of the way to San Diego when I'm feeling more like Chinese food than Chinese-ish American food.

Love this restaurant. We always order a few of the shu mai, our go to orders are black pepper beef, fish fillet with black bean sauce, snowpea with garlic, salt and pepper pork ribs. Always easy to place online order, easy to pick up.

Dinner here recently was great! Strip mall location but that doesn't affect the food. We ordered chow mein, XLB, corn/pork dumplings, and Bok choy to share and all were delicious. We would've ordered the green beans but they were out. Service was good and one of my friends got some frozen dumplings to go. Yummy! Don't sleep on this place - not quite at the level of Din Tai Fung but great for North County.

My in-laws wanted dumplings, but didn't want to drive to Din Tai Fung, wait for Din Tai Fung, or pay Din Tai Fung prices. (Friendly tip is to make a reservation a month in advance for Din Tai Fung unless you like waiting 2 hours). I recommended Joyee because I usually get the Vista location for lunch and LOVE it. There is also no wait at Joyee! This location is really good too and you can't go wrong with the XLB, Pork Fried Buns, and Pork & Shrimp dumplings. We did try the fried shrimp which was good, but doesn't hold a candle to the dumplings(it's not Joyee's Shrimp house lol). The pork & chive dumplings were enjoyable, but the family preferred the other dishes. The dumpling wrapping is so think and wonderful. You feel like you're getting your money's worth which is not an easy thing to say in this economy. Friendly reminder to all that the stock market is not the economy.

Garlic broccoli and shrimp fried rice

I Love the garlic broccoli and their shrimp fried rice... large portions, plenty for lunch and dinner the next day too

Normally we drive to Convoy, but this is much closer. Surprisingly good! Pros: soup dumpling, reg dumpling/wontons, chow mein, bao buns all good! See pics, loved it. Cons: no veggies with anything, waiter was a little slow, had to ask for everything(cups, plates, napkins, etc). All in all, we'll be back!

I have heard about this place because they have many stores in San Diego already, so must be pretty good. We came here at its oceanside location which looks really new. The menu is pretty comprehensive with a little bit of everything Chinese food. Some classic dishes, dumplings or buns, and rices and noodles. We tried three dishes and they were all delicious. The bamboo with beef was great! I loved the beef was thicker and meaty. The bamboo was perfect with the beef. Really loved the dish. The snow pea leaves were great too. Cooked just right. Not too soft or salty. The pork fried bun was excellent. The bun was still very soft and light despite the pan fried. The filling was delicious too. I was really impressed by it. The service was decent. Overall, we really enjoyed the meal there. I can see why they have so many stores in San Diego already. I will visit other locations too.

Salt and Pepper Ribs was good.

We discovered Joyee's while exploring the area. It's located in a giant shopping center with plenty of parking. A quick lookup on Yelp helped us decide to try their XLB. The restaurant had a Grand Opening (August 2024) sign out front and we were immediately greeted by the waitress/hostess when we walked in. I always appreciate the greeting from the get go. The restaurant was clean, can easily seat several large groups and has great natural light. We sat at a window table. The waitress was very friendly and chatty. We discussed a few food options with her and placed our order. We ordered the pork XLB but was served the pork & shrimp dumplings (miscommunication apparently). The dumplings were fine but XLB was our goal. We also ordered their popular items such as combination fried rice (it was a little sweet), Mongolian beef (good) and salt & pepper pork ribs (good). Overall the food was satisfactory but didn't quite hit the mark for me/us. There was a large group leaving as we were eating, and one of the gentleman stopped over at our table on his way out to rave about his dining experience. He was so happy and content and wished us a great day. That my fellow Yelpers was the foodie euphoria effect, what we strive to attain with every food adventure. Although we didn't hit euphoria ourselves, we were happy that guy did! The restaurant has several locations and has an impressive menu. Maybe it was an off day or their newness at the time. I will try another location the next time I am in the SD area.

Service was great, very friendly, was pretty busy, very energetic/loud. Food... we were disappointed. Soup dumplings were very doughy- didn't seem quite done. Pork buns were decent but lacked some flavor- walnut shrimp was good

Found out that this place recently opened and placed online order for pick up. Food was ready in 15 min. Inside was very nice and open. Lots of seating available. Walked in and stood at the front counter for a good 2 minutes while an employee was standing there talking to a customer at the table. Did not get a hello or even an acknowledgement. He did look over and saw that I was standing there. Finally after he finished his conversation he walked over and I told him I was here to pick an online order. Found my order and gave it to me and I went on my way. I definitely did not get a welcome feeling. Hence, why I didn't give 5 stars. Hopefully this changes because the food was amazingly delicious. I ordered the beef and garlic green beans. Meat was tender and the green beans and garlic were flavored perfectly. Only wish they had a lunch portion because it was so much food. Enough for 2 people. Can't wait to go back to try more.

Good food comparable to DTF and service is quick. Dumplings were a little soft but relatively juicy.

Joyee's Dumpling House Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Joyee's Dumpling House

    Do they have gluten-free options?

They don't make gluten-free versions of their standard dishes (like dumplings, egg rolls, or chow mein) but there are some dishes that are inherently gluten-free, like fried rice, mushroom chicken, beef with broccoli, etc. They are very tasty!

Do they sell the sesame mochi dough thing here on the weekend like poway?

I don't recall seeing that, but since it is all the same company they should offer the same items.
