Delicioso! Yumminess overload! Even after im full woth my dinner! I did make room when i saw these desserts! We ordered the bubble waffle mango ice cream and the bubble waffle smores! They make the waffle and they put it in a cup wherein they filled with ice cream and decorate with marshmallow or tapiocas. The ice cream itself is so creamy! We ordered the milk tea to go for someone so i do not kniw how it taste but the container itself is attractive enough for me to buy it again nxt time. They also serve hot pot in this small location which is a few stores away from the full service restaurant. read more

WARNING For those that eat here regularly or are new. PLEASE ALWAYS check your receipts before paying your bill at here. When my boyfriend and I received our bill, we noticed that there was an extra service charge fee of 18% tacked at the bottom of the receipt. According to the restaurant, this service fee is only to apply for parties of 5 or more, but there was only 2 of us that dined-in. With that said, we asked the waiter why he applied the 18% service fee for a party 2 - to which he said was a mistake and went to correct it immediately. This is NOT "the first", but the SECOND time this has happened. Don't get me wrong, the food here is delicious and filling, but if we did not notice these unethical charges, we would have probably added an unnecessary additional tip as well! If this happens again, we will go straight to the owner and report what's happening here as well as notify the Better Business Bureau for fraud and unethical practices. Pretty cool dessert expansion to the nearby Joy Yee Noodle. They have bubble tea, bubble waffle, ice cream, and even shabu. One star down for the matcha doing milk tea only because I wish it was more matcha-y. Otherwise it was very creamy, and the containers the drinks come in are cool! Typical prices though, and a clean interior to the store. I wish there was Joy Yee in Houston! read more

No WiFi No WiFi No WiFi (Chinatown has poor internet connection, WiFi is a must) Food is ok, poor service tho. Also they charged extra service fee. On the menu it says "18% guarantee for group of 10 or more which is reasonable, but I got charged when it's only me and a friend.I don't mind paying tips but what they did is not right. read more

1 Star for food, wait service, drinks. Hotpot and appetizers which was the calamari tempura and Vietnamese chicken wings. Hotpot was great, they kept refilling our broth when it was getting low. And refilling our drinks. The calamari was good, paired with the spicy mayo as a dipping sauce. The Vietnamese chicken wings was fried a little too long cause it tasted a little bitter but was sweet, bittersweet lol. The drinks were very delicious, we got the durian/red bean combo, first kiss; it was mango lychee and something else, and the soft serve matcha ice green. Everything was great until our bill came. There was only three of us eating and they charged us 16% gratuity. We pointed on the menu that it stated parties more than 5, they would charge. She swiped our card already and proceeded to tell us that when she pulled two tables together for us for hotpot, she thought there was more people coming. Obviously, she didn't count when she brought us the bill. And then she said she's sorry and don't know how to fix it. Wtf?! The bill was 100$; we would have tipped 15-20% anyways but it's not the tip amount, it's the principle. If it was an honest mistake then at least try to fix it or accommodate us. Instead, telling us she doesn't know what to do and can't do anything about it. That made me so upset. I've ate in Chinatown a million times, restaurants always try to get over you. She uses a pos like anywhere else and can easily refund or cancel the charge and charge us again but resulted to do otherwise. In another instance of dining here, they brought out raw dumplings and served it to me and still charged me. I like the food here but the service doesn't compensate for the food. That just killed my experience, second time here and never again. read more

Not worth the line or hype..not only was the wait to order a while, but the person that was making my ice cream creation was soooooooo slow. My ice cream was pretty much melted by the time I got it, and my custom creation was incorrect but the girl didn't understand English. Definitely not worth the $12 to make your own bubble waffle ice cream creation, which didn't even taste that great either! I was very sad and unsatisfied.. read more

Absolutely love this place. I drive from the far north side to this Chinatown location to get these delicious and beautifully made treats. I don't believe they have a phone number which caused me a bit of confusion but it is right by the other Chinatown Joy Yee Noodle location right down the plaza. read more

Get there early! If not, you'll be waiting in line which extends outside of the restaurant. I ordered tea and dessert. The tea was refreshing, but it had too much ice in my opinion which then watered down the delicious flavor. read more

Super fun splurge place to take the family or yourself! I got 24K gold covered charcoal ice cream in a red cone (I'm assuming red velvet? But maybe just red, I'm not sure). My daughter got the rainbow road ice cream with bubble waffles and was over the moon in love with it. Definitely on the fruity sweet side, which was perfect for her. The bubble waffle was really special and I definitely stole some pieces to dip into my charcoal ice cream. I'd never tried that flavor before and I really loved it. The whole thing really. Super smooth texture and great flavor that I would for sure order again. It is kind of an expensive place with ridiculously oversized portions. I'd be into a smaller serving at a cheaper price, but I'll definitely be back anyway every now and then to take my kid on some cute ice cream dates. This spot right here is the cure to hangovers and upset girlfriends. An endless selection of meats, flavored broths, and yet.... a collection of bubble tea. Hangry partners beware, you've met your match. We chose the sechuan broth, fatty beef, tofu, dumplings with roe, and our selection of bubble tea. I come here to cure my hangovers more though haha! read more

Visiting Chicago from LA and drove to to Chinatown just to get some good Boba. Looked for a spot that they didn't have in Cali. Joy Yee did not disappoint, they had a huge varieties of teas to choose from. I tried something different that I never had in LA. it was a Blue milk tea base boba, "butterfly" it was actually pretty good. read more

Love love love love love!! I found my favorite hot pot place in Chinatown! Joy Yee Plus is way smaller than the actual Joy Yee restaurant in Chinatown. Due to the place being so much smaller, it is highly recommended to come early, so you can get a table for hot pot. The hot pot prices are average, but everything is super fresh. The shrimp was so fresh it was sweet, the wagyu beef was tender, vegetables were fresh, sauces are unlimited, and the service was awesome. They even had freshly made fish balls, which I've never had until I came here. There is definitely a difference between frozen fish balls and fresh fish balls. The taste is great! They have a sauce station set up, so you can try as many sauces as you would like. They charge you $0.75/person and you can use as much or little as you would like. There are four different kinds of broth (Szechuan, beef, seafood, and Taiwanese). If you order the hot pot sets, the broth come with it. If you don't, then it's $4.95 per flavor. We also ordered their dessert (egg waffles). We tried the durian flavor, raisin flavor, and coconut flavor. You can distinctly tell what each flavor was, and each one even had the filling of the flavor. It was super delish! How do you go to Joy Yee and not order their drinks?! We ordered their special milk teas to go. The best part is the super cute plastic cup that it comes in!! Several people were taking pictures and posting it because it was super cute. This is the only Joy Yee that has these plastic cups, so come and get it! We will definitely come back. We still have to try the sundaes! They looked so amazing and many people were ordering it when we were there eating. I highly recommend trying this place out. They also validate parking, but you must spend over $25. read more

Tried Joy Yee Plus for their boba. I didn't see anywhere on the menu offering sweetness and ice customizations but the cashier said they do it. I got a Thai milk tea with tapioca and asked for 50% sweetness. The drink still ended up being pretty darn sweet. I drank it all but next time I'll go even lower in sweetness. The actual flavor was nice and strong, though, so no complaints there. To be honest, I only came for the cute bottle because I am a sucker for packaging, hehe. It adds probably an extra $1-2 to the price of every drink though, so if you don't care about packaging you should go elsewhere. I will say the bottle is pretty big; I'm guessing it's equivalent to a large from other boba places. The quality of the bottle is...decent? It feels like a thicker plastic than a soda bottle, though obviously nowhere near a Nalgene or anything like that. We'll see if it holds up to being reused. read more

It is a custom anime and cute decorated boba/ice cream dessert spot. The place is not exactly spacious but usually has seating. The staff wasn't welcoming but weren't bad either. Ordering for the kiosk seemed like the most popular option. The wait was around 5-7 mins, so relatively fast. We ordered the two lovers boba which came with scoops of vanilla ice cream, milk tea, and grass jelly. I would say that it was a good portion for the price. The flavors weren't mind-blowing, but quite satisfactory not much to say. A good amount of sweetness for milk tea and grass jelly was just grass jelly. Couldn't taste the ice cream at all in the drink. If you like to treat yourself to a large amount of okay milk tea, I would say order it. But if you're looking for something unique, this is not it. Loved the packaging, very cute. We also ordered the Rainbow Road ice cream with bubble waffle. It contained two pieces of chocolate pocky, m&ms, cereal, strawberry syrup, vanilla ice cream, and whipped cream. The bubble waffle was alright, I had better before. I liked how it was warm and had a good amount of crunch. It wasn't really tasty, but the texture was nice. I finally got a grasp of what the vanilla ice cream tasted like - like icecream+sorbet not very vanilla flavored. It wasn't creamy but wasn't icy either. I would say it had a good contrast to the warm bubble waffle and handled the sweeter toppings quite well. Personally wished the vanilla was creamier and actually tasted like vanilla. But it was alright. Great two-person snack, made us both happy. The toppings and flavors paired well with each other. Would try another flavor next time! read more

I love all food from any Joy Yee location - but this review is based on the bubble waffles: I've been going to Joy Yee restaurants for as long as I could remember, and back then the only type of dessert you could order were bubble teas. So it's about time they add more dessert options! I ordered the matcha bubble waffle (sans red bean) and the matcha ice cream was very good! It had the rich green tea taste, and wasn't too sweet or artificial tasting. The bubble waffle itself was nothing special, I only took a few bites and didn't finish it. I'd definitely come back though :) read more

Yum! Joy yee plus is open again and they have quite a few new items on the menu! The first thing I noticed is the new decor! The long river fish tank is gone now, I'm sad about that but I know it must be a pain the maintain at the same time too. There is a lot of ice cream choices now. Mango, avacado, sesame, lychee, strawberry, etc. I really like the names they gave their bubble waffle desserts! It's cute. I decided to go with Mango W/Me. The ice cream is really tasty, the mango pieces were sweet as well! The bubble waffle was yum, the inside is not hallow but filled so it's got that sponge cake feel. The tea I had to get cause it came in an awesome reusable bottle. The tea drink I got was called a Justin. It had peach and guava in it which was nice. The tea flavor was just right and I like the Chia seeds in it. Over all, I like the 2 new items I've tried. I missed having a good tea + dessert place to go to. Have you ever had a bubble waffle sundae? No? Before today, me neither-- but now I can say that I have! Joy Yee plus makes these delectable, delightful works of art. You start with a bubble waffle (think a hot, crispy Belgian waffle shaped like bubble wrap), top it with creamy and cold soft serve, then accessorize with whatever toppings your heart desires! We went with the banana and chocolate-- it was the perfect combination. The chocolate soft serve tasted like dark chocolate or fudge, which was a pleasant surprise. Only downside, it was pricey... just under $10 including tax. But it's plenty big to share between two or even three! Treat yo self!! read more

I got the passionfruit boba. It was decent. Just felt there was a too much sugar in it. My partner had the oolong boba, that was decent, but he did not like it. I love this place, but it seems this time we weren't pleased with our drinks. I will try again next time I visit Chicago! read more

Visiting the Chicago area and met family here per their recommendation. Glad we did. Everything from the service to the authentic food was delicious. I would highly recommend stopping at any of the locations if you're in the mood for good Asian food. Hubby loves spicy and tried a spicy cuisine. Try if you dare. I usually love joyyee bubble tea but I came to the plus for the first time over the weekend and I was pretty disappointed with the bubble tea. My boyfriend usually get coconut smoothie with tapioca and he loves it but when we got it at joyyee plus it was so water down. I usually get strawberry mango at joyyee so I decided to get strawberry mango at the plus and it was eh. The bottle is super cute though, instagram worthy lol i definitely want to try out the waffle next time I come but get bubble tea somewhere else. read more

Didn't dine at the restaurant but ordered their well-known ice cream bubble waffle dessert. The bubble waffles brought me memories back to Hong Kong! They were SO GOOD! I ordered Banana with Me. The bubble waffles was the best part, then bananas, then soft serve chocolate ice cream. I enjoyed the bubble waffles without the ice cream. Cost is $8.50! Love the upgrade to this place and their focus on dessert! The bubble waffle sundae is incredibly good and brings a Hong Kong classic right to Chicago. I love the bottles that come with each drink as well, they're reusable as well! Great place to come and hang out with friends after a meal in Chinatown. 10/10 would recommend. read more

Just down the "street" from Joy Yee Noodles. Great place for shabu shabu (I assume, I've never tried it, but people kept coming in and order it). I came with a bunch of friends because we wanted boba. Give me bubble tea all day. Their options are a little bit different than the ones at Joy Yee Noodles, but still so delicious. You have to order the bubbles or jellies; they don't automatically come included. Oh, and they also have bubble waffles. Noms: original bubble waffle (no toppings) - delicious (great base for however you'd want to fix it up. I'd come back to try the fancied up version Kiwi tea (small) - fun resealable container. It was delicious and came with real pieces of fruit in in. I would come back and try other fun flavors. TLDR: definitely worth checking out, great boba...or fruit teas read more

Came to try out the bubble waffle trend. The mango one really hit my sweets cravings. It was a delicious experience but the wait was a bit long (we were the only ones in the shop) and it was relatively pricey for just a dessert (about $9). I'd be willing however to come back and try the other drinks. The menu looks quite tasty. It's still a young place, so hopefully the staff will get the hang of things and keep up with future orders. read more

Visited this spot after a delicious dinner in Chinatown. Stumbled upon it and decided to try it out since it was pretty busy! I think it was an opening event? Not sure. They have these boba cups that you can reuse/wash again that comes with every drink. What a great idea! Makes ppl promote it through their social media without you having to do anything. Setback was my boba was reallllllly overly sweet. I couldn't even finish it. read more

Amazing ice cream really really love it. Just like their drinks at the other location. My only issue is that the menu is confusing and deceiving. As you can see it says "Bubble Waffle Ice Cream" as the title and under, it shows the different types. We ordered a "Bubble Waffle Original" and literally only got a waffle. Why is under the ice cream title? Almost $5 for a waffle thrown In a bag? This doesn't make sense. And the person attending didn't tell us before paying that it does not come with ice cream, even though it's under the "Bubble Waffle Ice Cream" title. As a matter of fact she was not very helpful, we would ask questions and she couldn't respond them. We literally had to go outside take a photo of what we wanted and show her. Shabu shabu was closed during the pandemic. I'm so happy that they have just opened again and on the 2nd floor. Came here for the hotpot during the week to cure my 2 years of craving and they were not busy. I guess not many people know that they're back. Food is still as good as I remembered. Came here last night (7/14/17) after having some dim sum. First of all, the way the store is designed is very poor. The line and cashier is right by the door. So you can't really get through because it's so cramped. I ordered the house matcha egg waffle. After ordering, I waited around 15 minutes to find out that my order didn't go through. That was kind of frustrating because we had waited so long. But they gave us extra toppings and ice cream. It tasted pretty good but it wasn't amazing. I would go again but I wish that they would find a way to organize the store better. read more

Being from out of town and esp. from a small city to finding a place like Joy Yee Plus is truly like finding treasure... We came here with the intention of only ordering milk teas just to find ourselves 15 mins later with a mini hot pot packed with heated spices, meats, and veggies galore right in-front of our faces. Seriously hit the spot especially it being in the -15 degree outside. &Just so you know, it's refillable broth too. Place is small but plenty tables to squeeze in for a quick meal and drinks. Finally. Finally a place that offers real, quality asian-inspired desserts that looks pretty and is plentiful. Growing up egg waffles kinda becomes a rarity for you if you aren't in the right place, the closest place where you could probably get some decent ones is up in Toronto. Although Joy Yee Plus doesn't quite nail the egg waffle flavor on the head, they're darn close enough and that's good enough for me. Try their ice cream egg waffle cones. For the love of god, just look at the pictures of these beauties. I'm pretty obsessed with them. Their green tea and taro are my personal favorites. Their thai tea is decent but needs to be deeper and more frozen in my opinion. The only place they fall short in terms of desserts is their drinks. Honestly they were pretty expensive and not really that great. Sure, they give you a lot and in a nice Joy Yee plus cup, but there are many other places to get your smoothies/bubble tea in Chinatown. Beware. Terrible customer service. Apparently just ordering $30 of dessert is not good enough because they make you get up and empty the table to make room for the more important hot pot guests. If their intention is to do that, perhaps they should put a sign? We were enjoying our dessert then a server came over and asked us to leave to make room for a bigger party. The funny thing is we would have left on our own if she gave us 10 more minutes. Drinks and dessert were fine. read more

Came here with a pretty large group (10) and the restaurant did a great job trying to accommodate it. The waitress was organized with our orders, we even forgot something that we ordered and she remembered! Overall our food was really good and the drinks were amazing. People in my party liked the "Meat Lover" option more than anything else because there was enough food to fill an empty stomach with a variety of options. The one downfall was our broth ran out because of the heat, and no one came to refill it or ask how it was doing. I would return again especially for the drinks because the sweet fruit tea was great! read more

We were the first in the midwest to offer Taiwanese style bubble teas. Going a step further, Joy Yee's was the first to combine the South Asian fresh fruit freezes(smoothies) with the popular tapioca balls. Joy Yee's Noodles combines different dishes and styles from across Asia into one expansive menu and one cheery little dining room. The end product is pleasing, with a variety of tastes, large portions and, most importantly, low prices. Joy Yee's offers an extensive list of appetizers including list of broths, noodles, meats and other fillers from which they can concoct soups suited to their tastes. Non pork dishes were the Mushroom 3 ways and Spanish octopus. Mushroom dish was savory with all the coated sauces elevating this. Spanish octopus was kicked lightly and easily can bite in to enjoy the tender and charred portions. But the award went to my main course - the braised pork shoulder with saffron, apricots and Swiss chard. Aside from the rippable pork meat when dining on it, the sauces fused together on this dish elevated it and had everyone coming back for more. I needed an official Chicago culinary experience and found it at The Purple Pig without a doubt.
