This place is such a classic spot. I always enjoy coming here after dinner for a sweet treat! It's always small space but usually always pretty busy. People are always in and out. Looking for boba's in Chicago Chinatown? Look no more..they have smoothies, boba's and fresh fruit freeze drinks! So many different flavors and selections. They uses fresh fruits for their freeze's. We ordered short ribs pho which was served in a huge bowl good for 3! The ribs were so tender. Bulgogi beef with rice, siomai, and coconut shrimps. We had 3 drinks , strawberry kiwi freeze with boba, mango freeze with boba and I forgot to take a pic of avocado freeze. Don't forget a straw. They have it next to the pickup area. The kids at the register do not check on the ink or tape on the register. I could barely read my register. Split one of their special bubble waffles with a friend. We ordered the one with Taro ice cream, mango, coconut flakes, and mochi pieces. It was so good, I highly recommend and would definitely order it again. Was hoping for more of a chewy texture with the bubble waffle but it was fluffy and crispy and everything else you'd expect from a waffle. They had a bunch of other things there too that looked so intriguing like a bright pink dragon fruit soft serve. Came by on a Friday night and the place was PACKED. But they kept the line moving and they have seats inside and outside of the place. They didn't have a public bathroom in the downstairs but I was able to use the one in the upstairs with my receipt. I love the shabu shabu at JY+. I truly miss living 3 train stops away from Chinatown. Their drink options are a little different from Joy Yee too. My go to is the dragon queen with lychee jelly. We normally do the beef broth for the hot pot. I'm not too crazy about getting a bunch of stuff since we try not to over order. The order of premium beef for my husband and I was more than enough. My husband also doesn't eat a lot of shrimp so I normally eat most of it myself. Some of the shrimp were a bit mushy and isn't as fresh but that was like 1/6 shrimps. Their portion for the enoki mushroom is a lot actually. I thought it wasn't so I ordered 2 of them, but we actually love them so we didn't mind. My favorite appetizer is the grilled tentacles. I realized they changed their menu quite a bit since the last time I've been here because there's "grilled" options. They changed the tentacles up a bit to have that Vietnamese flare and it's so good! My husband and I got actually made our own dipping sauces for the hotpot but then we ended up using the fish sauce from the grilled tentacles bcos it was so good. Also, google says JY+ opens at 11:30am but it's actually just the downstairs and not the upstairs for the hotpot/food. The upstairs open at 12pm. I hope they bring the shabu shabu back soon. It's honestly one of the best kept secrets in Chinatown. This place is located in New Chinatown, which is that long two-story strip mall on the corner of Cermak and Wentworth Avenue. It's a separate store from Joy Yee, which you'll notice will have a massive line at the drink window. If you like the drinks at Joy Yee, Joy Yee Plus has the same drinks without the long lines or wait. But the true unsung hero of Joy Yee Plus is the shabu shabu, or hot pot. Before COVID ruined everything, I used to love getting the shabu shabu here. It's impressively authentic, and they offer a huge range of condiments to make your own sauces, which is the truly fun part of the experience (I imagine the communal condiment station is the reason why they had to stop the hot pot temporarily). The amount of food you get for ordering one of the mini hot pot sets is enough to feed 3 people comfortably. I have ordered their drinks, and they have an extremely wide selection--probably to the point where you'll be paralyzed with indecision. I'm talking pages. Very poor customer service. The woman that served us had trouble understanding us and showed us poor attitude. We clearly told her what we wanted to order yet she keeps telling us "I don't understand what you are talking about" to the point that we had to point to her all our orders on the menu. While we were waiting for our appetizers some customers came and were clearly dissatisfied with her service; they told me that she had allegedly told them "do want you want to do" when they asked for seats. Obviously they left. The food was okay. The appetizers came very late and we were served with cold, greasy, and soggy fried calamari & tentacles. The rest were fine; the bulgogi fried rice and the hot pot. The ambience lacked. Not much to see except cartoons on the walls. It was noisy (speakers) and messy as well. There were trash around the floor and the servers just walked around them. In conclusion I wouldn't recommend the place but everyone has different palates. I been passing thru until now. They have a menu by the door and when you order. You walk up to the plexiglass counter and talk into the microphone. The only issue with that is that the person listening to you can hear your order but you can't hear what she is telling you. I ordered two desserts, one waffle cone with and without ice cream. I waited 20 minutes to find out she only put in one of the two. Yes, some will say, you can tell what you ordered by the price on your receipt, but it was $15 - I guess how would I know $15 is one item.
