Facebook algorithms really do work when it comes to attracting new clientele--I hadn't even been in Oceanside 24 hours before Joy's Nail Salon popped up on my feed. As someone who loves nail art, I decided to go out of my way and give them a try. Unfortunately, my experience was extremely disappointing. I went in for a simple polish change and nail shaping, but was persuaded to get a fill instead. During the service, I asked the technician to lower the speed of the electric file because it was hurting my nail bed, and I requested a round shape since oval or almond didn't seem to be an option. Rather than accommodating these basic requests, the technician refused to continue, stating that "her power and mine wouldn't match." The owner later suggested it may have been a language barrier, but even after understanding my concerns, she said she couldn't make the technician complete the service. This was after a significant amount of product had already been removed from three of my nails. I even offered to have everything removed and let another technician finish with a simple manicure, but that was also unsuccessful. To make matters worse, I was told that this technician was the only one who works with that product and that I should consider going to their "sister" location. At that point, I chose to leave, feeling frustrated and disrespected. What concerns me most is the reasoning behind the refusal. The owner stated I appeared scary when I walked in. All in all, I can't help but question whether it was due to me advocating for my comfort and service preferences--or something more (as in race and stature). As a professional and educator, I simply expect to be treated with care and respect as a paying customer. This was one of the worst salon experiences I've had. I would not recommend this business. I went today for my back to school nails and I asked for a dark purple polish then as they were painting my nails I saw it was a hot pink instead of what I asked for so I made it clear that's not what I wanted and asked if we could change the color because that's not wtfk I asked for and she told me no it was too late when she wasn't even done with one whole hand. I walked in for a builder gel removal, manicure, and pedicure, and the total came to $60; they normally charge $15 for builder gel removal, but it drops to $10 if you add another service, and the pedicure itself was only $30. The only drawback is the mandatory tablet check-in which requires you to share your name, email, and phone number. If i can give them zero stars i would, my lord where do I begin. Today I was so humiliated by the owner and her workers. First I started going to this place years ago, I stopped because I moved. I can say time to time when I am in Oceanside I would stop by to get my feet done. So today I get there by 5:45pm. They had me waiting forever, when I finally got seated I told the lady that I wanted square French tip, so I showed her this picture on Pinterest and she said could not do it because of my nails and the way they grew out. So I was willing to get an acrylic she said that would not help at all. so she called Stephanie over who is the owner of the shop and said in their language look at her toes blah blah blah so Stephanie proceeds to tell me that she won't be able to do it and if she does it she doesn't want me complaining because it's not gonna work because of the way my toes grow out. I explained to her all she had to do was cut my toes down and use the tool to make them square and that's it. Mind you i have been there before and they did my toes and they did a good job, but Stephanie just kept arguing with me. I explained to her I had a long day, I really don't wanna go back-and-forth with her. and she just kept saying oh I don't think they can do it and oh it's not gonna come out right because of your toes I mean at this point I am feeling really embarrassed. So I got in touch with my mom to find out who does her toes she said some lady name Lynn. So I told Stephanie if she can ask Lynn if she can do my toes. Lynn looked at my feet as if she was in disgust and tell Stephanie that she wanted to eat so I watched them for about five minutes. The lady never went to the back to go get nothing to eat. She was sitting literally across from me writing something down in a book. She just didn't want to do my feet. So finally somebody else tried to come over third person she was like oh I need to drink my Pepsi first before I work on your feet. she proceeded to tell me that I needed to pick something quick because they were getting ready to close mind you I had already been there since 5:45pm it's 7pm NOW. so because I felt so embarrassed, I just got up and left and I came to a different Nail Shop WHO DID NOT GIVE ME NO PROBLEMS. They did an amazing job on my toes and I will leave the picture in the business name below I advise you guys to really to consider your options. Stephanie had no sympathy for me or how I was feeling at all. Normally I don't do reviews, but I had to for this one. This is my second time visiting this location, and I'm so glad I found it! They are reasonably priced for the area. To get my gel manicure it was $45 including tip. You're able to make an appointment online as well, which is super helpful. I came in on a Monday afternoon around 1:30 PM, and they were so quick I was out of the salon 45 minutes later. The last time I got my nails done was at another place about a month prior where the technician rushed through everything and it felt like she ruined my nails. My nails were brittle from the experience, so I wasn't sure if they would be able to do anything with my short nails. TT did my nails and was so patient and nice. I had a design that I wanted for an event I was attending and it required art on the 4th nail and 5 different shades of grey. She did an amazing job and I was very impressed. She worked so hard on the flower design until I was satisfied and never made me feel bad. I was so happy with her work. Linh did my toes and she did an amazing job and spent good time on it. This is a big nail spa but they are adequately staffed and even though it was really full, I never felt like my technicians rushed at all. He said he would just take them off and refund me, while rushing to get them off he cut my pinky and didn't have alcohol in his cart to clean it and just dipped it in the acetone which burned then he proceeded to file my real nail so deep it left marks in my real nail and hurt bad. First time here. The lady is super rough and talking to everyone, but not in English. Has stopped several times now in the middle of my massage to talk with co-workers. I am nurse, I Took my 4yr granddaughter to get a her nails and toes painted. We've been coming to this place for her, my daughter in-law and myself for years. Sometimes they soak her (4yr old) feet sometimes they don't. We always walk out of there, $15 plus tip for her. The last time I was there they charged me FULL ADULT amount for mani and pedi for a 4yr old! They soaked her feet that's it! I got a full pedicure that I was told to hurry up, choose a color because she had other people who actually had appointments. My pedicure cost a lot less than my 4yr grand daughter's service. Unfortunately I didn't have a good experience here. I asked for a gel x full set and cat eye nail polish. The older gentleman did my nails and was pretty nice and I left happy with my nails. The next day I was taking my retainer out in the morning and my thumb nail came off from my left hand. I decided to give the shop another chance to fix it and the same gentleman fixed it and stated that since my natural nail was half broken off water was getting in between the gel x nails and my natural nail resulting in the nails falling off. This nail has always been like this and I have NEVER had issues with my nails falling off the very next day. The gentleman proceeded to fix my nail and didn't charge me which was nice and I again left pretty happy and satisfied. Please note that while I was waiting for the gentleman to fix my nails the customer sitting next to me had the SAME issue. She had literally came in the same day I did and her thumb nail came off as well. Well the next morning (today) keep in mind I got my nails done Sunday (2 days ago) now my pointer finger nail came off from my right hand when I was washing my hands. This has been so frustrating and I needed my nails done for an event this Thursday. Not once have I had issues with Gelx nails. This was THE WORST NAIL EXPERIENCE EVER!!! Wish I could give no stars. First time I came Trish did an AMAZING job. Second time I came I got my nails done by an older lady I can't remember her name but was an okay service, had to ask her to push up my nail polish for my hard gel mani because it looked like I already needed a fill and she did so. This time was TERRIBLE! I had Celine. First complaint is that I had to wait about 10 mins for her to finish getting her nails done when the person in the front could have put me with someone else. She rushed my service then after I picked out my color she then put another color SHE picked on my nails she did about 10 coats because she couldn't get the color correct after I told her that those weren't any of the colors I picked. She then proceeded to not take it off but pack on more coats. Then when i mentioned to her I was missing gel at the bottom and didn't like the huge gaps she talked over me saying yeah yeah yeah mind you all while being on a FaceTime call. After I told her I was unhappy with my nails she proceeded to put the top coat on and completely ignored me. So after I went to the front brought up my issue with the lady in the front she then tried to GASLIGHT me and tell me she didn't see an issue when I had the most thickest bubble nails. They both came to the front and started to yell at me infront of other customers that there was no issue and they didn't see the problem. I then told them to just take it off I would not be paying for the nail polish but would pay for the hard gel and shaping she had me go with someone else but make a point to make a scene In front of everyone. Also the lady at the front was pressing me about not knowing the older lady who did my nails name was. Saying well you should know whoever did your nails last time? Insane customer service not in a good way. I was cut and given a bumpy sloppy manicure the second time instead of it being better. At this point I was very irritated and just paid and left. I already had a long stiletto set with a fresh fill, so it was clear I didn't need another fill. Despite that, the staff kept insisting on one. The technician started filing off my nails without asking, saying I needed a "new set." I immediately corrected him and repeated my original request. Near the end, I asked for the price, and he told me, "later." He then had a conversation in another language with the manager, but no one explained anything to me. At checkout, I was suddenly told the total was $75. I asked for a breakdown, and the manager claimed it was due to the fill. I reminded her that I did not receive a fill, and she knew that before the technician even started. She spoke to him again in their language and reduced the charge by only $20. They charged me for a service I didn't receive and included a tip without asking. I have no problem paying for quality work, but I won't accept being overcharged or misled.
