I gave Joyluck five stars because in my opinion it is the best it can be for carryout / delivery in the area. We have eaten from here many times over the last four years and we prefer this over Jacks to be honest. They are two different places entirely but we have always had great, tasty meals from this restaurant. - Fast and friendly - The food is awesome "American" Chinese food. It's not too greasy or salty. - The price is right for Annapolis. Try finding another place in the area where a meal is less than $10?? - Their delivery is fast and friendly. - The store is clean and the service is quick and upbeat. I would give it a try if you haven't yet. Everyone had their opinion but I have eaten Chinese carryout my whole life and this is above par than most others. I hope they prosper and stay in business. It is good for the Bay Ridge community and good for me because I will continue to enjoy good, affordable Chinese carryout!!!! read more

Don't bother. They should get zero stars. Worst service. I used to order from them all the time. The last time I ordered was 2 years ago. They took two hours to deliver human chicken. I live 5 minutes from there. They never called. I figured they had time to work out their stuff. Nope. Ordered delivery for my whole family and when I called to check on my order an hour later they said they were too busy to deliver and that would have to come pick it up. I got there and they told me I would have to wait for them to make the order. I asked them why they didn't call me earlier and they said they were too busy. There was no one there. Joy Luck used to be fantastic. But I believe the original cook and owner has retried. The new cooks can't get an order right.

I love this place. Third time we have been and will be back again. Chicken lo mein, pork fried rice, sesame chicken and the egg rolls are all great. Service is quick, always consistent flavor, price is great and less than the other Chinese choices. On a separate not the portions are very generous and a good meal for two. We have been looking for a new Chinese place since the closure of court of shanghai and after trying 6 different Chinese restaurants in the area we have settled on this. Got General Tso chicken combo. The egg roll it came with was good. Good sauce with the right amount of heat. My only gripe is that it took 25 minutes for a takeout order and I was the only one there in line. read more

Worst service I have ever had, order soup and sweet and sour shrimp. Lady left for a delivery, no one there except a cook in the back who was not able to speak english. Not his fault, that is not the issue. Some other worker showed up 45 minutes later to work the counter. It was another 15 minutes til my food was done. I never waited so long for a simple order. Food was decent, so I gave them a second chance a few days later. Almost the same thing happened again. They really need to work on customer service,I will never return. Nightmare. After mediocre but dependable service we ordered once more from Joy Luck. The lady (owner?) we spoke with promised 30 minute delivery. Two hours and three calls later we canceled our order. A few minutes later a delivery person appeared in our driveway. She would not leave and insisted on being paid for food we had canceled. In fact, she blocked the driveway preventing me from leaving (to go to Safeway for food to make dinner). Only after I called the police (on speakerphone of my cell) did she depart). Clearly there is a major problem with this business and we will not ever be ordering from them again. Horrible. read more

If there were zero stars, they would deserve it. They pack their containers with 3/4 broccoli for anything with broccoli and 1/4 with the topping. Thus, unless you dump the entire container out, you would realize how little the shrimp, beef, chicken, or whatever mix you have with the vegetables. The loud woman delivered and maintained a phone call the entire time during her delivery where she was laughing and speaking very loudly. She was unbelievably unprofessional. When we called to complain about the over abundance of broccoli, she yelled that we needed to immediately complain. Recommendation: As soon as you have your food delivered or taken home, dump it out. You will then realize that you are overpaying for vegetables. Needless to say, we will never patronize this poor excuse of an establishment again. This woman's behavior combined with the overpriced and misrepresented menu should not be rewarded with anyone's patronage. Go anywhere else but there. They should be out of business. read more

Ok..so this is a better late then never review. Last weekend my fiance and I went to our friends home that lives practically right across the street from this place. We all wanted Chinese and this place was clearly the closest and had decent prices. Our friends said it was pretty good so we order: 1lemon chicken w/ spring roll, 3 General Tso Chickens, 1 veggie something w/ veg spring roll, and a steamed shrimp and broccoli w/ spring roll. The non veggie spring rolls turned out to be shrimp. Ok so the food is ready and picked up in an orderly fashion and we are digging in to the meal. It tastes pretty good, I'm eating the lemon chicken but only eat half. The portion is very generous, as it came with broccoli instead of rice. I don't know why broccoli instead of rice but it's not my restaurant. So there is no way I can eat it all. Also the lemon is a lemon juice and sugar mix that is separate from the chicken. I have never seen it done that way, but it worked. I also nab a bit of my fiance's Chicken which was pretty tasty. We leave our friends house about an hour later and on the way home my stomach start to feel a bit queasy. This feeling lasts the whole way home and I went to sleep with an upset stomach. The next morning my friend texts me and asks me how I felt after I ate the food. I told her about my stomach and she proceeds to tell me that her and two others had similar stomach problems and that she even throw up her veggie dish that night. I will not be eating here again and this is why. read more

Zero stars, actually. Placed an order with them through Uber Eats. Expected delivery 40-50 minutes which is reasonable for delivery and everything seemed normal. I was keeping tabs on the order for delivery updates. Order was in the car, being driven, even had an Uber driver name and contact who was minutes away according to the app. Open the app again after an hour saying suddenly the restaurant had cancelled my order. No alert, no phone call, nothing from the restaurant. I proceed to call the restaurant and the woman said 'oh yes, let me check' then abruptly hung up and refused to answer the phone after I tried back multiple times. So that was a nice touch after over an hour of waiting. At least communicate if you cannot fulfill an order and contact a person who was about to spend almost $100 at your establishment. I'll take my money elsewhere. This place will be out of business soon if this is normal practice. read more

We have used them before for several years - and have not had major problems; but it only takes one, right? Especially when it totally destroys what had been a reasonable buyer-seller relationship. We ordered three things by phone (no other way to do it) talking to an Asian woman with heavy accent. Twenty five minutes later the food shows up, and we find after the delivery person has already left, that one dish is missing. Here's where the fun starts - when I call to ask about it the same Asian lady starts telling me I ordered something else and if I want to get what I thought I ordered I have to give back the other dish ... but see, the problem is there is no other dish. The receipt shows I paid for it, but it was not delivered. But for some reason she thinks I'm lying - so now we have to pay again for the actual dish we wanted, and we agree to do so. Now it is almost an hour since our discussion and agreeing to pay for the right dish and no delivery ... $25 gone, two dishes ice cold, and everybody pissed off. I don't know about you, but I don't think a takeout place can (or should) recover from this. If you order from them, pray you don't get on the wrong side of the Asian lady because she never makes a mistake - only customers do. read more

For American style Chinese food, this place was perfect! We ordered delivery on Christmas day and they delivered in about 25 minutes. The vegetarian sesame chicken was amazing, even the omnivores in the family enjoyed it. The veggie fried rice, lo mein, and egg rolls were also great. I didn't try the orange chicken but my family loved it. Their online ordering system is really easy to use but unfortunately didn't have fried rice as an option so we had to call to place the order (not a big deal.) I would definitely order again if I were in the area and craving chinese delivery! read more

We have been ordering from Joyluck LITERALLY for 20 years. We put in an order tonight - on a Saturday night - and received the wrong order. I was then visited by the restaurant representative demanding - quite rudely - an additional seven dollars nearly 40 minutes after the delivery. If you fail as a restaurant to accurately deliver an order and then have the audacity to insult me - and my mother (!!!!) - after we have been customers for 20 years - over 7 dollars - I have no words left for you. read more

This place gets 5 stars simply because it is the home of my FAVE FOOD OF ALL TIME: their vegetable spring rolls. So. effing. good. You won't find a better one anywhere, and feel free to try. I have turned my ex-bf, sister, parents, friends, everyone onto these veggie rolls and they are ruined for life because it doesn't get any better. Also, delivery is super quick, as in 10 minutes most of the time, and the people are very friendly. They give large portions, like most chinese takeout places, and their dishes are on point. I have cycled through the menu, but their sesame chicken and sweet/sour are my faves. Lunch menu is super cheap and will tempt you to order 2 dishes for $10! read more

Never ever. Husband wanted Chinese take-out, went to Joy Luck Bay Ridge near us. I had 'Happy Family.' NOT! Within an hour after eating, (only thing I ate since breakfast) I was writhing in pain on the couch. I endured a night of sweats, shaking and horrific pain. I discovered Joy Luck after living here for about a year and I immediately became a regular customer. The service is always friendly and the food is great and they are very conveniently located. I love their eggrolls, fried rice, kung pao chicken, chicken and broccoli and moo goo gai pan amongst other things. I am actually getting ready to call and place an order right now and I had to look up their phone number. When I saw some of the less friendly reviews I felt compelled to write something positive. read more

OK, let me set the scene -- we had just arrived in Annapolis on a sail boat a week or so after Hurricane Sandy and in the middle of the nor easter that followed. It was cold and wet. We ordered take out from Joy Luck. It arrived at the Marina (no small task to many delivery services), hot, on time, and with a cheerful delivery driver. The food was good take out quality. I have been eating at 2 of the Joy Luck's and I give up. The food is terrible. I ordered egg foo jung and it was horrible; just burned piles of burned crap. Over the last several years the food has seriously declined. I've tried 3 times recently and no more. Very disappointed in Chinese food in most any restaurant around here (Annapolis-House of Hunan is about the only decent one): the food is too Americanized. Egg Rolls come from frozen and all wrap part no insides to speak of; can't get real shrimp and lobster sauce anymore (it's basically egg drop soup with shrimp in it) and other dishes just don't taste like Chinese used to when they made it all themselves. read more
