Jones Road has been one of my go-to makeup and skin care brands since their inception, five years ago. I was so excited to visit the Jones Road flagship store in Montclair, NJ. I was immediately greeted upon walking in and made to feel welcome. One of the makeup artists showed me around and color matched the foundation I've been buying and confirmed that I'm an ivory. She showed me a tinted moisturizer in ivory, and also tried a new eyeshadow, the 'just a sec' cool taupe, which I also loved, along with a new brown eyeliner. She showed me other products as well, but I these were the three items I bought during this visit. I was happily surprised when she bagged the products in a reusable Jones Road tote and even gave me a discount because I was staying at The George! I love the healthy no-makeup makeup look of Jones Road products and left feeling more confident about my color choices. Thank you for a five star experience. read more

Bobbi Brown has been my idol since I was 12 years old. I read The Teenage Beauty Book cover to cover and have been a diehard fan ever since. I was excited to visit the Jones Road in Montclair since I know that's where Bobbi lives. I had a great experience shopping here and was helped by a very sweet employee. I bought the miracle bomb for myself and two friends, her new and improved gel eyeliner (iykyk) and the foundation cream pot. No regrets and happy I was able to visit in person! read more

Is it just that the commission on sales was a priority today? The location is great and offers parking. Two separate spaces in the suite with the all of the products. As you enter, you are signed in for what seems like a commission based transactional moment. Nothing about this experience was about the product ingredients, or quality, the transaction lacked "show me how I can glow, teach me about the products or educate me on your facial moisturizers or try to upsell a cleanser...." The assumption is you know what you want, the make up artists will apply the product and you purchase them. Although.... Leaving the location with a half face of product is not my preferred... There are stations for you to sit, and instead you are asked to stand in the midst of customers, around the table of product and face the open windows ready for application. There was no conversation on the product benefits, how to remove or to try to upsell make up removal, or to address skin issues (dry vs oily skin and the right product). I asked for a fresh look, so I dont feel "flat", and need moisturizer for my skin, and my skin is sensitive. The response received was, "what would you like to focus on?" It was on me to figure out my makeup needs. "Hello", I am not the expert. I then stated, I don't wear anything but lipstick, eyeliner, and mascara. I'd like to cover my sun spots, and am not much of a foundation wearing gal. The foundation was then brushed on, with no verbal education, and then asked, what do you think? I had to ask for a mirror to see how they were applying the foundation. Although I purchased the foundation, and a balm, I didn't learn much about the product. The artists were more concerned with getting people off the list to make a sale. Very disappointed... I then lingered and saw the eye cream and moisturizer line... but my name was not on the list and wasn't helped until the list was completed and someone became available. As I waited.. I heard many women in my position say, "I don't wear much makeup and just want the glow, to look naturally made up". Perhaps more customer verbal contact can be a focus of training? read more

The products are nice, but the service I got was horrible. Some of the consultants looked helpful. I wonder if in my case if it was due to age discrimination (I am in my 70s). However, looking at other reviews, I see that there is a pattern (a lack of interest in the client). I am so sorry; I think that Boby would not like it. She needs to know that some of her employees should be more attuned to what the clients' needs. read more

Service, For me who worked in the Cosmetics industry, this product works so well. Also with my skin getting older this product truly is the best. I stopped by this store to pick up a couple of items. When I walked in, I was greeted and asked if I was looking for makeup services. I explained that I wasn't; I just wanted to double-check some colors. The woman responded, "No problem, feel free to look around and use the samples." After reviewing the colors I was interested in, I decided on the items I wanted and approached the woman at the register. She asked if I was on "the list." I replied that I didn't know about a list; I just wanted to buy a couple of items. She then informed me that I had to be on the list and walked away. What list?! It was frustrating to discover that none of the items for purchase were displayed on the sales floor. After trying to get help and receiving none, I left without making a purchase. I also contacted the company's customer service to understand what the list was, but unfortunately, they didn't respond either. Due to this poor experience, I cannot recommend this location or the company in general. read more

Great products. Terrible in-store experience. I'm not sure if the staff aren't knowledgeable or if they just aren't into the job. I did not feel tended to. I mostly just order online even though I only live a few blocks away. It would be nice to get some advice on products and application. I avoid going into the store as a coping mechanism to protect myself from the possibility of being ignored or feeling discounted. I have to agree with all the one star reviews. I live 1.5 hours away and made the trip because Jones Road was recommended to me by friends. As an older woman I was also looking for advice on what would work best for me. None given. I finally told the Salesperson (because that's the feeling I got,) . " this is not working for me" I came looking for advice and suggestions. I did finally buy the WTF and a powder blush. Very, very disappointed in the service and overall experience . By far the worst cosmetics retail experience - which surprised me - I was expecting a more elevated experience vs the standard mall cosmetics counter equivalent. I went it to get color matched on specific products. The woman who helped me had such an attitude, was rough applying make up, was condescending and just clearly didn't want to be there. Why bother having a boutique store if all you accomplish is tarnishing your brand reputation by hiring subpar workers. Skip this store. I ended up buying $100 worth of product and feeling horrible about it!?! I should have stuck with the online purchase I wanted to make, but said hey, I live only a few blocks away, let's go in and have some fun for 10 minutes. Never again. I just wanted to buy some simple things I know I use and I kept asking an artist if there was someone to ring me up. They were rude and said they'd send someone over to me. After 15 min I walked out. I traveled to the Jones Road store in Montclair NJ from Albany NY (2.5 hours each way). I was introduced to Jones Road products from a friend who hasn't tried them yet, but read a lot about them. I watched a lot of YouTube videos about the products and tried to use the website's feature "Find My Shade" but had no luck. I'm not great with cosmetics so I need the help of a makeup artist for foundation matches and cosmetic color ideas. I also was a bit hesitant based on what some YouTube reviewers said. After making the decision to do a day trip, I emailed the store and asked if I could make an appointment. I was informed that I could just come to the store and receive assistance for color match (possibly only 15 min depending on how busy they were), or I could book a makeup application/lesson for $100.00 that would give me 40 minutes with a makeup artist and this included a $20.00 off my purchase. Since I was coming from a long distance, I chose to make the appointment. The makeup artist was very personable and listened to what I was looking for. She took her time and explained how to use the products. I'm difficult with eye makeup, because I get sensitive with things around my eyes (kind of a phobia). The makeup artist was wonderful and patient. She taught me how to apply the under eye concealer myself. She even let me try a second time (possibly a third too) when I accidently removed some of the concealer while practicing. She also made recommendations based on my reluctance to apply products around my eyes. I received a paper with all the products that were used (including brushes) listed with detailed application notes to help me apply them myself later. The makeup artist answered all my questions about application and products. I ended up making a large purchase, but I didn't feel pressured at all. I purchased the items below: - WTF (Alabaster) - The 101 Kit - contains one miracle balm (Au Natural), two The Face Pencils (Shade 1), and The Mascara (Pitch Black). - Miracle Balm (Dusty Rose) - Tinted Face Powder (Untinted) - The Best Eye Shadow (Penny) - The Lippie stick (Flushed) - The Brow Gel (Ash) - The Everything Brush - The Sharpener The price for everything was $432.81. That did include the $100.00 makeup application/lesson and the $20.00 discount. Buying the kit also saved me some money. I feel that I could have just gotten a few of the products and ordered the rest online at a later date if money was an issue. I didn't feel pressured to buy everything. I do plan to buy more of the products used at a later date and the detailed list of everything used including tools will help me with those purchases. I have moderate redness from Rosacea and these products were able to cover the redness extremely well. My skin looks more natural than other foundations I have used in the past. My face doesn't feel sticky like some of the YouTubers mentioned. I can feel something on my face, but with traditional foundation my skin itches and burns a little by the end of the day. The Jones Road products feels nice and more like a skincare product than other foundations. During my session with the makeup artist, I was told that i could use the Miracle Balm (Au Natural) with The Face Pencil on days I didn't want to wear a full face of makeup. I also received other advice based on my goals and limited experience with makeup. Overall, I am extremely satisfied with my purchase and my trip to this store. I read the other reviews and want to say my experience was very different. It is possible, that my experience was different because I booked the appointment and had an exceptional makeup artist. The store is small so I completely understand that customers without appointments might have to wait especially when a lot of people are ahead of them. Additionally, I want to say that I have left Ulta and Sephora with costly purchases and haven't been as satisfied with the products once I got home. I also have had not great customer service at both Ulta and Sephora. Today I used the Miracle balm (Au Natural) as my base with The Pencil (Shade 1) for a no makeup day. I used the Miracle balm (Dusty Rose) on my lips and cheeks for a little added color. The redness is not very noticable and my skin feels great. Using WTF, The Pencil, and the Tinted Face Powder as the base does have a better more polished look, but I don't always want that much stuff on my skin. I was so happy that I sent pictures to my friend that introduced me to the product line and answered questions about how the products felt on my skin. She will be visiting the store this summer and is very excited to try the Jones Road products. I see myself using these products more than I have used any other cosmetic products in the past. I plan on purchasing additional products in the future and would even do another day trip to Montclair NJ. read more

Five. Stars for product, less than zero for customer service. Love the products, but the system for service in the store is deplorable. I am a regular user of Jones Road products, and just wanted to go in and get some replacements. It was busy as usual as it's a weekend, but you have to sign up for anything to speak with make up artist, as there is no one dedicated to just check out. The make up artist are harried to the point of rude because they're annoyed when they're interrupted with questions, ignore new customers completely as they can't stop what they're doing to greet anyone new that comes into the store. In all fairness, it would be very hard for them to split their attention helping customers with the products and answering questions and just checking people out at the cash register. It's a miserable experience for everyone customers and employees.Bobbie, I love your Jones Road brand but WTF with this system? If I wasn't already a fan of the products, I would be completely turned off and never buy anything from here. I left really pissed off and ended up buying online. I had such high hopes for this boutique-like storefront featuring Bobbi's new product line, but the service model here makes zero sense. If you knew what products you wanted, you would just order them online. The entire reason to go to the storefront is because you don't... so you're looking for a personal experience that includes education, product sampling/testing, and friendly human interaction. Instead, you are not permitted to move around freely, rushed in and out, and sold products that may or may not actually be the best products from this line for you. For me... I have skin that is on the dry side. When the service rep caked on 'what the foundation' it just made my skin look so caked and dry. It was so obvious that I said, "is it supposed to look like that?" To which she responded, "well it's expected that you would put on a moisturizer first." The way it was said to me too just left me feeling ashamed of myself, like I should have known that/prepped my skin for this product application with my own moisturizer product before walking in the door.
