I surprised the Mrs. on Valentine's Day and we had a scent-sational time here. It's set-up 'buffet style' - starting at one end of the room and you slowly make your way down a wall with an absurd amount of options for what catches your nose, then a section with various options (sizes/styles) for the container to house your eventual candle. Back to the 'bar' to start working on your candle (with the help of the amazing staff) and before you know it... you're done. (Well, you have to come back at a later time to get the finished product.) The 'activity' was slated for one full hour but within 30 minutes almost everyone was done and left. (We were the only couple imbibing - so we were there pretty close to the full 60 minutes.) I can't say enough good things about the crew behind the counter - ebullient to the nth degree. The shop looks amazing, the candle (I got to pick it up a week later) is great and most importantly: I got brownie points with the Mrs. for the unique and memorable experience. A bit on the pricy side but wick-ed fun, for sure. (If you know Montclair and this area specifically... parking can be a challenge.)

They carry Kiehls, which is a great line. In the dead of winter, I went in there looking for a hand lotion my husband would use for his alligator hands and didn't smell to girly. They recommended the most AWESOME stuff, that we are both now addicted to during the winter months. I like this place, they do a good job. My only complaint is I can't hang out in there for more than 5 minutes, or else I get a headache from the smell.

Lit Cafe's name has a double meaning that I appreciated. The obvious meaning aside, the "Lit" also refers to many items for sale on several shelves distributed throughout the cafe. These items range from reusable cups to cocktail infusions to special jam from the MET. This gives it an air of being more than just a cafe but also a place of culture. The interior of the cafe is beautiful. Light wood, beautiful sunlight pouring in from the large windows running along one side and gentle lighting that instantly made me feel comfortable and welcome. I ordered a Dirty Chai and a scone. The staff was super nice and efficient. After my items were ready I headed to sit down and chill. I was really surprised that after about a half hour the staff didn't try to rush me but to be fair, there was plenty of seating that early in the am so I was able to spend about 45 minutes there (to be fair, it took me about a half hour to finish my scone and drink). Also points to the cafe for playing super chill music that created a great vibe and a volume that didn't make my skull rattle. Also, while I did not use it I am pretty sure I saw another customer using a rest room so I think there is one for customers (but you may want to double check for yourself if you visit). I loved my visit to Lit Cafe and look forward to going back during my next visit to Montclair!

I ask for more and he tells me "I think you have smelled enough" I asked him what did that mean and he told me that I had used enough test strips and that they didnt want to RUN OUT! A PERFUME STORE! I had 13 strips, I had a list of 23 parfums altogether that I wanted to try before deciding which ones I wanted to get! BUT BECAUSE OF MY HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE, I told him, don't worry I'll go elsewhere! I also mentioned, I wonder if the owner knows you turn away business? I could tell the owner was willing to provide great customer service when speaking with her, Its a shame she has horrible employees that cause her to lose business. I CAN GUARANTEE I WASN'T THE FIRST CUSTOMER TO GET TREATED THAT WAY! DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME‼LIKE I DID‼
