I had a truly poor experience. I walked in with my sister and I found what I needed quickly by asking the one that is more helpful. My sister needed more time. There is one sales girl with long grey/lavender hair working there that is so extremely rude and unprofessional, I cannot believe that she still has a job. She followed us around without ever offering to help and stood more like security that a sales rep, not looking at us but standing right next to the station with were in with her arms crossed. When my sister asked a question she was short, unhelpful, and rude. The other woman working there Debra, must've noticed the lack of help and came over, spoke to us and helped my sister find everything that she needed, recommenced products, and kept a polite upbeat conversation. Really professional and knowledgeable and personable. Two other women came in the store, the girl with purple hair speaks to them once and goes across the store. I sat down to wait away from my sister and the Debra, and once again the girl with purple hair comes to hover over me. I said I didn't appreciate the hovering and stood by the register. Now let it be said that I am a 36 year old woman who has never stolen anything in her life and this girl made me want to never come in the store again (and I won't) So Debra, was a wonderful woman but the other girl needs to be retrained or maybe needs to find work where she doesn't have to interact with people. read more

I had an amazing experience with my esthetician, Literally small things I was doing she corrected and improvements were visible within a couple weeks...I cannot wait until I visit again. Love my Caudalie products, their line, and certain Kiehls oil free moisturizers. My skin was complimented the day I left haha! If I could rate 10 stars... i would! I walked in the store, hoping to find something to help with my hyperpigmentation and a young woman named Yezmin, greeted me and asked me if I needed any help. She showed me the Kiehls section and showed me "clearly corrective dark spot correcter" and told me it can help with my hyperpigmentation and dark spots that I was trying to get rid of. I was a little hesitant at first because of the price but I decided to splurge since it is my skin. She told me it can work well with my sensitive skin. I looked at reviews before purchasing and they seemed very promising. I've been using it for almost of a month now and I've noticed a significant change in my dark spots. I am extremely satisfied with this purchase and I'm happy that Yezmin helped me pick this product out because personally I would've never bought something like this because of past product purchases.. 10/10 read more

I've given them multiple chances and sadly the team is more interested in sizing up clients with rude mean girl looks, talking to each other as if in a meeting, seeming bothered when approached. I've ignored the lack of professionalism and shopped making purchases but I'm no longer looking to go back....especially with the very unhappy looking blond person who seems to be a manager and clearly is losing shoppers with her poor attitude. So I had to pick up black eye make-up for Halloween. I know the stuff at party stores is crap so I thought a cosmetics store would be the right choice. I made my purchase on Friday Oct 10 and asked if it was returnable. Everything was packed up nicely with the receipt placed in the bag. Only after I tried to return the items the next day (Oct 11) did I discover that their policy is exchange only. They should have been clear about this at the time I asked. Whoopsie - the website clearly states "return for a full refund" - man am I pissed off at them now. Terrible customer experience. Update: October 13. Chase Visa checked out their website. Saw the policy as well as the communications between me and corporate and issued the refund as a disputed charge. read more

So I went in today for a foundation and concealer, when the worker was color matching me for a concealer shade under my eyes she used the applicator that was in the tester and not a separate disposable one. By using the applicator in the tester, that completely contaminated the tester product and it is COMPLETELY unsanitary to be using that same applicator and product on different people especially when it's around there eye area. read more

Unfortunately, I love stores like Bluemercury way too much; therefore my budget conscious self usually avoids them like the plague. Yesterday I was "forced" to go in to get my makeup done. I needed a makeup application that was not only done well, but would last all evening while I attended an event. After I told Kelly the look I was going for, I was quite impressed with her talent when I looked in the mirror. I wish she could do my makeup every day! I liked what she used so much that I may have purchased a bit too much new makeup. Warning: There are a whole lot of cosmetic and fragrant goodies to purchase here. When I went in, the workers kept staring at me. I understand this for packs of teenagers but I am a fully grown woman. Since it was my first time, I had to ask a question about how to actually purchase the makeup since only samples are out. The woman who "helped" me was quite rude and gave me sass about it and even rolled her eyes at me. Came here for a facial that was generously offered by my mom (thanks mom!). Was able to get an appointment on the day that I called which was very convenient for me! I forget the name of the esthetician, but she was fantastic. She asked about my skin concerns in the beginning of the session and toward the end, went over some things that she saw that needed attention and how to address them. She even offered that if I wanted to, I could come back later in the week for more extraction if there I felt there was more that needed to be done (at no extra charge!). After I was all finished, she prepared a "goody bag" for me of all of the products that she used during my facial and wrote explicit directions about how to use them all. Of course being a student, it was not likely that I would be able to afford the products that she was offering. And I appreciated how she was not pushy with selling the products, but very informative and gave me generous samples. The facial itself was pretty standard, but good quality nonetheless. Cleansing, exfoliation, extraction, moisturizing, hand/arm/shoulder/neck massage. What's not to love. This is the first time that after a facial I saw a dramatic improvement in my skin. My skin is usually pretty sensitive and breaks out so easily that after a facial, it sometimes gets worse, but not this time! Will hopefully be back to get the radiance back! read more

I love Bluemercury. There stores are simple, clean, and pristine with an excellent collection of superior cosmetics that are, to be honest, pricey but they're pricey anywhere. Bluemercury has a different feel than makeup counters in department stores and I believe that is why the stores are successful. Tonight I walked into Bluemercury in Montclair seeking a particular shade of lipstick to replace my favorite Lancome sheer lipstick. One salesperson was helping a couple. Another salesperson emerged from either the back or from downstairs. Apparently making a sale was not of interest to him and while the other salesperson was busy, she didn't say, someone will be with you shortly. It's not as though I was meandering. I had actually decided on the color Florence by Trish McAvoy but I'll get it from a store that's interested in good customer service and also interested in my money. A store with such great appearance should have customer service that matches. read more

Good selection of skin care and makeup but awful costumer service. The two times that I have gone in, I have been met with nothing but the sound of workers chatting with each other. They seem to not want to be bothered by any costumers. Another time, one of the employees was patronizingly rude to my 7 year old daughter who dared to pick up a bottle of nail polish and was briskly told by an employee to put it down. Update: after visiting about 10 times since grand opening I have to lower the rating. Please do something about the customer service. With the exception of one woman who was super sweet and knowledgable about the perfumes, I've had very flaky and inattentive service. Lots of being ignored and waiting for staff to finish personal conversations, not being greeted, snootiness etc. Also I went in a few nights ago at 7:57 pm, three minutes before they apparently close. I wasn't sure of their hours and was passing by. The door was open, lights on. I walked in and said "oh are you guys are closed?" And the employee said "just about!" And turned away and continued fixing the shelves. How about, "if you know what you need, we have a couple of minutes!" Or "unfortunately the register is closed but we open at 9 tomorrow" just anything more welcoming and professional. Great store with great beauty products but the staff needs training in customer service and hospitality. ---------- This is a new location and is pretty standard as far as Blue Mercurys go. For those who haven't been to a store they have high-end beauty products, candles, and hair care. Some of my favorite brands they carry include Laura Mercier, NARS, Bobbi Brown, Mario Badescu, LAFCO candles, and Moroccan Oil. Parking is limited so it's often easiest to park in the Crescent Street deck. Prices are high but that's the never-on-sale cosmetics industry for you. Staff seems nice so far. read more

I was really excited to check out this place! I'm a make-up/skincare "junkie" and I couldn't wait to start shopping. Unfortunately, when I went in today the staff were not helpful at all. I wasn't even greeted when I walked in. It wasn't just me, there was another shopper who walked in after me and same thing...no acknowledgement. This was disappointing, especially because the store is brand-new! I would think there would be lots of happy, smiling faces, ready to help. Anyway, it totally killed my vibe to shop & I walked out with nothing. But, I'm still giving it 2 stars b/c of the great selection of Hair/skincare/makeup/candles and convenience. Love the Sara Happ lip gloss & scrub! It is true, that in desperate times of need of running out of a product, instead of going to the mall I can grab it here. I live and work out right by this place. Much like another reviewer mentioned, I was excited not to have to drive to Nieman Marcus to pick up my makeup. The 4 times I've been there before my recent purchase, the service was awful and the sales folks seemed as though they knew nothing about makeup! So I just went in to get exact what I knew i needed and got out. That all changed on my last visit when I was helped by Kelly who said that she just relocated from another location. If they continue to have the type of service that Kelly gave me, I'll update this to 5 stars. The other 4 times were so bad that I can only give a 3 for now. Tip for the owners, I spent 3X this time vs my past purchases. Keep hiring people like Kelly and I'm sure your sales will grow. read more

Went in to make an exchange. Thought I'd browse first but no. We had to do the return first because apparently it takes a while. Well once that was done I asked for help finding a product. The woman who "helped" me looked at me in a way that made me feel like I had sprouted horns or I don't even know. So she helped me and I was happy with the item. Went to pay and get the hell out of there. I find these stores to be hit or miss. There's one in Millburn and one in Summit. They make it so you want to shop online rather than going to the store. read more

It's official - I am NEVER shopping at this store again. I buy ALL of my makeup and skincare supplies at BM; either online or in the Montclair store. Today I went in and the crabby short-haired blonde was working with some other woman. I was the only person in the store. I asked the blonde if I could return something that irritated my skin for store credit. She very snottily replied that she'd "have to call" to do that and asked for my information while I looked around for things I needed. Once the debacle was ironed out with my return, I asked for help selecting hair products. I was told "it's what you want" about 10 times. Neither sales person was able to provide me with any solid advice or help and acted like I was putting them out. I also suggested that I needed some concealer, and asked for recommendations. "They all work the same" I was told. WTH??? After spending a good amount of cash, I left and went into another store. On my way back I noticed a free gift was advertised in BM. I went in to see if I could get one and was told "you have to have spent $200, I don't know what you spent". WTH??? OK I spent $168 so didn't get it. No, "oh, if you spend another $32 I can give you one, or "here you go, take one" or anything. SO SNOTTY AND UNHELPFUL AND UNFRIENDLY. Now I remember why I do most of my shopping online. It's not COVID, it's your crappy attitudes. Thanks for nothing. The salespeople at Harmon's and CVS are more helpful. read more

I made a reservation for myself and my mother for a facial on a Tuesday morning at 10am. We arrived at 9:55am, we were hanging out by the door until the store opened. One of the women working came to the door to rudely let us know they did not open till 10am. I responded that's ok, we have a 10am reservation. She then came back to let us know there were no reservations in her book - she asked for the name of person I made the reservation with as she was sure no one there had made the reservation because they hadn't had an esthetician on staff for the last 2 months. Apparently the person I spoke to was not aware of that as I had an extensive conversation with her about the appointment - in fact I had wanted a Monday morning appointment but had to do Tuesday as their esthetician only came in on Tuesdays. I was excited to get a facial here but am no longer interested in their rude service. read more
