I went to see Dulce on a Saturday afternoon. I was worried because I thought I was going to have to wait a long time. I was surprised to see that only another lady and I were waiting. My hair got washed right away and I even asked to get my ends trimmed. My rolls were done very quickly and Dulce gave my hair enough heat without burning my skull. Racism is alive and well in Belleville NJ. When I arrived for my appointment I noticed I had to wait while other customers went ahead of me. I was the only "white" person in the place the whole time I was there, so I should have figured it out. But since I live within walking distance of this place, I thought it would be nice to see some neighbors. After it was over, I tried to make an appointment for six weeks in the future. She said, "no appointment!" It must be nice to have so much business that you can pick and choose customers based on ethnicity or skin color. read more

Went in for coloring and the lady did not know what she was doing, she burnt my hair. As I was getting my hair done another lady left very u happy with the way her roots came out to match her blonde hair. This place is ok for a haircut but I would not go here for highlights or coloring. read more

Dominican Hair Salon, kind of like a one woman show, with her mom answering the phones. They speak English, but the chatter is strictly in Spanish. My mom likes to go there. My mom is disabled, and walks slow and with a cane, and they accommodate her, and make her feel welcome. My experience with them was more like 3 stars, because they under processed a relaxer, and over flat ironed my hair. Even though it was done to deal with a humid day, and it was too flat and looked dead.... But this review is for mom. Many people with disabilities feel shy and embarrassed to go out in public to shop or for services. So they either avoid it, or wait around until family can take them. I usually go to NYC to get my hair done when it comes to wash and set. It has been difficult to find a place in nj because most places don't know how blow dry hair correctly. Dulce is actually is cool place to get a wash, set and blow. She does a really great job straightening my hair. She can flat iron your hair bone straight (which is optional after she blow drys it)...you don't need a Brazilian perm after you go to her. The sink is high enough that you don't have to hold your head up when they are washing your hair...women that go to Dominican hair salons know what I am talking about. They wash your hair 3 times with shampoo which some places don't do. You can have a leave conditioner or regular. The woman that washes hair does an awesome job. The place is clean and there is parking usually on the main street. She is open closes at 7pm daily except Sunday. She does take walk-ins which is great, but the place is always busy and the owner is the only one that blows and cuts hair. There are to extremely hot dryers and about 4-5 regular dryers. It takes my hair a while to dry so I am usually out in about 2.5hrs which isn't bad. Price wise it's a little more than what I would pay on the city, but reasonable and convenient. I paid $30 without tip. I tipped dulce and the lady who washed my hair (which is what people should do). Overall I recommend dulce salon!! read more

Great atmosphere, mainly speak Spanish but their clientele is diverse.Unlike other Dominican Hair salon (am Dominican myself) they don't have the music blasting or are gossiping about the customers. I have to say am extremely please with the professionalism display by the Salon owner and the staff. Also you don't have to wait very long their wait time is on point. I called two days ahead of time to confirm there was no appointment needed for when I needed to come in. When I arrived I was told to come back the next day because the lady was full. I felt if this were the case then your business should not tell customers there are no appointments needed. Not sure if I will try this place again. Very discriminatory to women who are not Hispanic. Wish I could rate them a 0. I literally was turned away by the owner and suggested to go else where because of my hair type even though my hair was done there two yrs ago for a Thanksgiving event and my mother in-law used to frequent here yrs ago under same ownership. So why now do you not do ethnic hair. Horrible business mindset and customer service. Only caters to Hispanic in a state as diverse as NJ. This will be reported to the BBB. read more
