I have been going to Salon Si for over 4 years and I can't rave enough about Michael and the entire staff at Salon Si. It is a warm and inviting environment with a chic decor that normally would be found at a much higher priced Salon. I am there every week and Debbie always finds a way to squeeze me in due to my hectic work schedule. Michael is the master at men's haircuts.... and I should know since I always change my style. From a complete fade, to a brook, to the classic combover I am currently rocking... Michael has always taken my ideas (or photos) and brought them to life on my head. Hes a great guy all around and is always a fun person to chat with while hes doing what he does best. I like my hair super short, pixie, but it had been a while since I had a hair cut and have been trying different places in the area so I figured it was time to try salonsi. The customer service was great! I was able to make an appointment online while I was at work and have it confirmed via text message for the same day. The girl who washed my hair was awesome and my hair stylist was very, very nice. But, she didn't seem to to able to understand what I was looking for in a cut. I'm not sure if she was comfortable with having to cut my hair so short. All, in all, I wouldn't count this place out if you are looking for a standard cut and I think they may excel in other areas, just not dealing with short haircuts. read more

I went there this past saturday to get my hair and MAKEUP done for my sister-in-laws wedding (which I have no idea why she chose this aweful place...have past bad encouters). My hair came out alright.... a very sweet lady named Isabelle did a fantastic job. However,... The owner (the mother, probably 60y/o) came to do my makeup. I was kinda nervous when I saw her face cuz it just didn't look professional but thought I 'd give it a try cuz I was pretty darn sure that if she claims to be a makeup artist and charges ridiculous amounts, she'd actually be good. Low and behold....it was a disaster! First of all, she used brushed that were unclean and unsanitized. I was gonna let it go there because I know how hard it is to wash each brush with every use and was really hoping she'd at the least do a great job. She began doing my makeup. I found it odd that she turned the chair so my back was facing the mirror (obviously I know why now...she's just that bad). Anyway...she began putting liquid foundation, concealer, and powder on my face. So far so good. Before she proceeded with my eyes, she decided to show me the progress so far. I obviously wasn't expecting a whole lot at this point because my eyemakup usually seals the deal. When I looked at myself in the mirror, my dark circles (which really aren't even that dark) looked even darker, the color of my face didn't match my neck. I looked like some Guidette wanna-be asian girl. I asked her to brighten up my dark circles...after more pasting and painting, she finally decided to move on with my eyes. I aksed her to give me a smokey purple/lavendar look (horrible color combo for asians). Pretty much what she did was, she slapped some dark purple on my brow bone (instead of a highlight) and slappped some black on my lids. Didn't even blend it out and asked me how I wanted my eyeliner. It was so bad, I asked her to take my eyemakeup off cuz I'd just do it myself. So initially, I was suppose to pay $65 for some unsanitary, dirty makeup application. But because she had to wipe all the ugly eye makup off, she gave me a "discount". She still decided to charge me $20 for the horrible Snooky/ old woman foundation makeup bullshit she put on my face. I was absolutely livid. While I was walking back to my car, a lady driving by suddenly stopped me and wanted to aske me something. Immediately I just assumed it would be directions. However, she got out of her car and asked me what I thought about Salon Si because her friends had warned her about this place but wanted to get an "outsiders" opinion. I told her my story and warned her never to go there. THey are horribly expensive for ugly haircuts. And no one there is by any means a professional makeup artist. I know what professional makeup looks like because I'm into makeup myself and have decent standards. Not to mention, I got my bangs trimmed a year a go there by this girl that probably never even went to beauty school and she gave me a dumb and dumber bowl cut bangs.... she ddin't charge me for it cuz i began crynig but she never got fired for not being able to cut hair either. STAY FAR FAR FAR FAR FAR AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!! Just go to Supercuts instead. read more

Jenna my go to girl! (Even though they are all very talented) I've known Jenna for quite some time and being a stylist myself we can be the WORST clients lol. I'm EXTREMELY super picky about my hair and never let anyone other than Jenna do it wen I'm to lazy to do it myself (which is 99.9% of the time). She does what alot of stylist dont, SHE LISTENS. Ive worked everywhere from high end salons to mom and pop salons and never let anyone but her touch my head, especially my color. Always love my hair ! I've lived in Essex County for 4 years and never attempted to find a salon of my own. I gave Salonsi a shot after checking it out online and I'm SO glad I did. First, you can make an appointment online which is great: I immediately got an email response and was able to come in the same day. They are very reasonably priced; $42 for a women's wash, cut and style (which is what I had) and more importantly, they did a great job! Marie, the owner, was my stylist. Not only is she a genuinely nice and likable person, I LOVED the way she did my hair. I want to go back everyday to have her style it! There are SO many things to love about this salon. Let me start off by saying my family and I have been frequenting this salon for at least 10 years. My mother has obviously been to dozens of salons throughout her life and agrees that Salonsi is the best. When you walk into Salonsi, you don't even feel like you're walking into a salon. You feel like you're walking into a nice, cozy, home of a happy, warm, welcoming family. Everyone here is extremely nice, which is one of the many reasons I love this establishment. Unlike other salons, the lovely people who work here are down to earth, non-judgmental, helpful and they without a doubt know what they are doing. When you first book your appointment, you'll get to meet Debbie, the super awesome receptionist who will go out of her way to fit you in for your appointment. She's also really fun to talk to before or after your appointment and has a great sense of humor. She never tries to rush you out or anything like that, and will go out of her way if she thinks you need help. After you book your appointment and you're greeted by Debbie, you'll have your hair washed by one of the many awesome stylists or other employees working. When they wash my hair, I feel like I'm being super duper pampered in a super expensive salon. They use amazing products. If you're like me and you have sensitive skin, rest assured that their products, in my experience, are non irritating. This is a probably because they only use the best products. (This applies to both hair and waxing!) I always see Jess C for my hair. She is super amazing. I refuse to let anyone else touch my hair. Jess is so talented - I cannot stress that enough. She KNOWS hair. When she cuts my hair, it always looks absolutely fabulous and I get complimented on it for months. People always love my hair, and I always tell them about Jess. She will cut your hair exactly how you want it, and will help you pick a style that's right for you. Another wonderful thing about her cuts, is that when they grow out, they always look amazing. I never have any issues with hating my hair two weeks later, or even two months down the line. Jess is very easy to talk to. She doesn't judge her clients, gossip about anyone, and will talk to you about literally anything. She remembers the little things, too, which is rare. I can walk in with pajamas on and I know Jess won't judge me. Jess will style your hair so well that you'll be amazed by her skills and probably contemplate asking her to do your hair every single day. Not only does she take time to cut your hair properly, she takes time to blow dry it well, too. She enjoys her job and enjoys doing it well. You can tell that Jess loves what she does and puts a lot of heart into it. When it comes to hair, Jess is an artist. You will never feel like an inconvenience at Salonsi. I always see Jess for my eyebrows, too. I won't go anywhere but here for waxing. Jess knows me and knows my style and never messes up my eyebrows (ever). I've had my eyebrows done by other people here - and they always do them well, but Jess is my favorite! By the time you leave Salonsi, you'll have realized the employees here are not only people you can trust to perfect your appearance, but they are people you trust in general. I view Jess as a family friend and always love my hair and brows when she does them. Salonsi offers so many different services, from bridal updoes, to manicures, scalp treatments and more. I have never been disappointed with anything Jess has done. My mother is equally happy with Jess and the staff of Salonsi. When she recently had her hair dyed here, Jess took the time to help my mom find the perfect hair color for her and wow! It looks so amazing. We're both so happy with our hair! The moment I walked in I had a good feeling about this place.. It's a family business, very cozy, and they're all very nice people. Jessica did my hair. I wasn't sure how I should cut my hair but I gave her some ideas and she knew what I wanted without me saying much. Her suggestions were honest and for good intentions for my hair and face frame.
