STYLED BY SAM ! Easiest title to write , it's her own catch phrase on her business card ! Let's face it when we reach a " certain age " or as I call it the 4th box, we have all gone through a plethora of hair stylist . My last experience left me not wanting to cut my hair for almost a year !!! Leave it to the Generation Zers to have the perfect description for my hesitation or as Sam coined it perfectly i had " hair trauma " . LOL My granddaughter got a great cut from Sam, so i decided to give her a try . Very understanding and patient ! She had to cut incrementally so i could ease into the " process " . I let her take off 3 inches . May not seem much but to me it was Deliverance ! Great cut . The styling with the curling iron last 5 days!! no touch ups needed . Don't let her youth misled you ! For years I been looking for a good hair salon since I moved to NJ from Puerto Rico where I feel comfortable and not tense. Bonus point for being a local salon and I don't have to drive over 40 mins to get a haircut. Marisa when she is working with you provides you tips to replicate and keep the style for in between haircuts. I like it when she does the blow out you don't see smoke from your hair which is something that sadly tends to occur at other salons whenever I decide to blow out my hair. Love this salon! I found Rebel last year through a friend of an employee who promoted it. I looked into the stylists and their pages, loved the work, and decided to try them out! First impression: the salon is located in a nice area of Nutley with plenty of street parking. The salon itself is well decorated, spacious, and CLEAN. All the employees are sweet and they all seem to have great rapport with their clients. I've only gone for haircuts, so I know I've got less input on the more intricate work they do, but I did recommend the salon to a friend and she got her extensions and coloring done there. The work looks great! I also really enjoy checking their updates on their Instagram and honestly can't wait to add some color and dimension to my hair soon. (I didn't want to commit until I had seen their work) ALSO very necessary COVID-19 info: I had a cut a couple weeks ago and their process is great! They take payment info (but do not bill) ahead of time so that it's a quick, easy checkout. Clients and employees are spaced out. And you can actually see them disinfect everything as they go. From my experience Rebel hair is an adequate salon. Very cozy and well decorated. Angie G very sweet girl with still some left to learn. Apparently there are more experienced hair cutters who as I watched were more experienced but also more expensive. I guess I'm used to one salon with all prices the same and I guess you get what you pay for in this salon. I went in yesterday for a haircut and was very pleasantly surprised by the experience. Dayanna (Day) did such a great job with my cut. I wanted my dead ends cut off and she did that and gave my hair layers to give it movement. Usually, when I go to a salon for my ends to be cut, they don't cut enough and I am left disappointed. I've gone to the salon for tiny trims before and everything was fine. I decided to take a few inches off this time and thought everything would be good. Wrong. I saw Angie and told her the length and layers I wanted. She asked me where my face framing started and I pointed at my chin. Not only did she NOT give me a face frame, she instead gave me terrible choppy bangs that start at my CHEEK. Also, she used thinning shears on my hair WITHOUT ASKING ME. My hair is now so thinned out and choppy and none of the layers blend together well. Plus, as I've said, the bangs are absolutely atrocious. I reached out to the salon to let them know about my terrible cut, and they offered to help teach me how to style it. No, I'm never going back there again. I gave it another week or two to see if my feelings changed, and they didn't, so I again wrote to the salon and asked for a refund. They told me there's a two week period for refunds and we were beyond that. Funny how they never mentioned that after my first email when they CLEARLY knew how upset I was with my haircut. I will NEVER go back to that salon again. read more

The reason I went here is because of Marisa. She knows my wonky hair colour history and is familiar with my hair texture. Due to COVID, there were extra precautions taken when I arrived. The ladies there are warm, friendly and awesome. I sat with Marisa and unleashed my untamed hair. I told her what I wanted to do and I knew it was going to be a process. She educated me and walked me through the steps when it came to lightening a section of my hair. Once she assessed and explained everything, Marisa did her magic. She showed my hair the TLC it needed and even though lightening ones hair is a process, I am down for the journey. I was making a big change and going from very long hair to a choppy, shag style cut. I brought in an inspo pic and marissa assured me that it was a good style choice and helped me decide the specifics of the cut.
