BRISKET--really subtle smoke/BBQ flavor and the flavor of the meat comes through beautifully. SLAB (of pork ribs)--again, try it without the sauce. Yuuuummmmy! CHICKEN--ibid. MAC-N-CHEESE--creamy & cheesy. It was exactly how it should be. I'm not a SAUCE person (I don't use soy sauce for sushi), so I did not try the sauce. They have jars of it waiting for purchase. My $60 order was missing $12.25 worth of food (4pc corn bread, sweet potato pie, iced tea, and extra side of sauce) and my potato salad came as macaroni salad instead (nobody in my household will eat macaroni salad). Drove 45 minutes to use my Groupon I just bought last week and arrived to a sign saying they don't accept it. I also called in my order before I left and they quoted the meal will be done in 20-25 minutes. I had to wait for an additional 30 minutes after arriving for my food to be ready. My fiancé and I were so hungry so we decided to eat it at Alki beach close by. In my humble opinion West Seattle isn't some inexhaustible well of good restaurants. When Jones BBQ is properly motivated I don't know that you'll find better in the city. Everything that we've tried on the menu is good. I'm not sure where they stand as it pertains to okra but it's still on the menu. Who knows? We usually get some combination of chicken and brisket with macaroni and cheese, or fries, or beans. Also try the cornbread. It's really good. All that notwithstanding the star of this show is their sauce. Quite simply put it's perfect.....flaw....less. The trouble with Jones' is sometimes they forget items. A french fry here or a cornbread there. We've had to fall back a little and be extra careful about checking before we leave. The last time I was there I'm about 95% sure that my brisket wasn't barbecued. It tasted like it was done in the oven which isn't a bad thing in itself but that's not what I payed for. I purchased a Groupon for this place and so glad I did. This is a tiny little hole in the wall joint next to a brewery in West Seattle. We wanted to order this for takeout on a Friday night - they disconnected their phone because we tried calling throughout the course of a couple hours and it was always on a busy signal. We decided to drive there instead and order since they said they were open. It was busy with about 5 other people waiting for their meals. There appeared to only be one person cooking in the kitchen so we were understanding of the 30 minute wait time. There's a few tables inside where you can wait. We ordered the 4 way combo which is 2 lbs of meat and 3 16 oz sides. We picked the beef brisket, chopped pork, rib tips, and chicken for the meat and then Mac n cheese, potato salad, and baked beans as our sides. This was a TON of food - but for $42 after tax and a groupon we thought this was the best value.. we also got 6 meals out of it. I've experienced catered BBQ from here twice. The first time, a friend of mine ordered it for a group dinner. The brisket and pulled pork were delicious and the corn bread is sweet and re-heats up well if you have leftovers. The second time we ordered, I got ribs, brisket, and chicken. The ribs are cooked in sauce and tender. The beans are on the sweet and the coleslaw is refreshing. In terms of setting up the catering, we had some problems with slow replies from catering and then had difficulty getting the actual receipt for the payment. The food was delivered a little (read about 30 minutes) earlier than I wanted, which meant that without burners to keep it warm, the food was kind of room temp by the time my company arrived. The delivery person also forgot the buns for our pulled pork, and though they graciously came back to deliver them, it was so late at that time, that barely anyone used the buns (which would have been handy when people were just digging into the food). Since moving to Seattle I have been looking for some decent bbq. When I saw a Groupon offering for Jones Barbeque I decided to give this place a chance. Boy were my husband and I disappointed. First and foremost, the customer service was absolutely awful. We walked in to a couple of people crowded near the register and another couple of people sitting separately at 2 of the few tables (seating for about 8) they have in the restaurant waiting for their food. There was no one at the register and we waited "in line" for almost 10 minutes without being greeted. When someone finally came to the front, they ran through the line to address the increasingly unhappy people waiting for food at the tables. Our order was finally taken (we definitely would have left by that time if we didn't have the Groupon) and we sat down at a table to wait for our food. During the time we were waiting we witnessed a pretty poorly handled incident with one of the other patrons who was also waiting for their food. Apparently, he had phoned an order in for the "family special" (1 whole chicken, 2lbs of rib tips, and 2 16 oz sides) and came down to pick it up. He was there before us patiently waiting when one of the staff came alerted him that they had ran out of chicken and had "accidentally given his away". After a discussion, he decided that he didn't want the rib tips either and just wanted a refund and to take his sides home. To his dismay, they refunded the family dinner price, but charged him full price for the two sides. When he pointed out how ridiculous that was, the staff said there was nothing she could do and a manager would around in 90 minutes if he wanted to discuss it then. As if witnessing that didn't leave a bad enough taste in our mouths, then our food came. I ordered the beef sandwich with baked beans for my side and my husband ordered the two meat platter (ribs and brisket) with Mac & cheese and coleslaw for his sides. The sandwich was soaked in oil, the brisket was very fatty, and the Mac & cheese had an odd garlicky type of taste to it. The only thing that earned Jones a second star was the taste of the ribs (great smoke ring) and the baked beans and coleslaw were decent. However, we will not be returning to this place. read more

So, I don't really consider myself a BBQ expert, but I have been to Arthur Bryant's and Oklahoma Joe's in Kansas City. I've also had some great BBQ in Texas before... I've driven by Jones a bunch of times, not really expecting that they would have great BBQ, but the other day, I had the urge and thought that I would give them a try. I wanted to pickup, so I just pulled up their website and looked through the menu and decided on the Three-Way Combo. I stopped by to pick up my food and was greeted nicely. I perused the dessert refrigerated section, but figured that I would be healthy and skip dessert. The staff wouldn't let me pass, they made me sample the cupcakes, which I thought were terrific. The BBQ is very good. Which for means, that I could eat it without any sauce at all and would be happy. But, I found the spicy sauce to be terrific. The second meal Beef brisket and onion rings. The portions were generous but there were several things wrong with our orders. The fried okra and onion rings were borderline burned and tasted old. My girlfriend asked for mild sauce and mine medium. They switched the sauce preference on our orders. Hoping for some redemption in the main course, we opened our meals and were disappointed again. The brisket was cut into large chunks that were mostly fatty pieces. The chop pork appeared to have no sauce on it whatsoever. The food wasn't inedible, but at this point there were a number of issues wrong with our order which warrants the 2/ star rating Having eaten here before without a Groupon, and having no quality issues then, I have to wonder if we got second rate service due to using a Groupon. I went the other day and they were out of a LOT of items. Small fryer was down so no fries, no onion rings. There was a good amount of meat, and it was tasty, but nothing that blew me away. What sides I COULD choose were teeny tiny and came in what most other restaurants use as to-go sauce cups. They were out of fried sides, potato salad, and bread apparently? No bread came with my combo. So I paid a little over $20 for chopped pork, two tiny sides, a soda and slice of pecan pie. Went down to Jones BBQ for lunch today with my expectations reasonably managed. My appetite intact, I scanned the wall board menu of succulent 'barbequey' offerings and settled on the rib tip lunch and a Coke - $12.05. A price point I believed to be a bit lofty for pieces of spare meat, bone, and cartilage, cut away from the more desirable spare rib. My dish arrived about 10 minutes after ordering, cocooned in and sophicated by cellophane. I unwrrapped the savory sauced swine to reveal a less than appetizing spectacle of an oil soaked basket (oil not sauce). A luke warm pile of meat like substance lay before me, losing a battle for real estate to the gobs of fat that dominated the culinary landscape. I did what I could to make the best of my meal but fell short. I'm not yet ready to give up on Jones and plan to return to give this small business another shot with, hopefully, a different result. I want to like this spot so bad; mainly because it's black owned, it's bbq and it's last name personally resonates with the southerner in me, but I just can't anymore. I was quickly reminded why I haven't been back in over a year. Last time the guy (in the kitchen) yelled at me from the kitchen for questioning my order's wait time (2+hours) because I agreed to wait on Mac n cheese to be brought from wherever. I didn't agree to waiting 2hours. "We'll let you know when it's here!" is what he said to me. LOL. Yesterday, Feb3rd the same guy and his sister(at the register) was in rare form with the worst of worst attitudes that I have ever experienced. Every question I asked her, she would respond so nonchalantly like I should've known the answer. She might as well called me a 'big dummy' after each response. Like girl, if you don't want to be there, then why be there because your attitude makes you look so ugly.... I had to catch myself several times from hurting her feelings during Black History Month, but I didn't! Thank god for my Black therapist! Asking her questions resulted in me being rushed out, overcharged with the wrong order when I was potentially just asking because I needed to purchase more food for my family in addition to the $80 already spent. This little girl needs a talking to, like seriously. The food is solid, though not amazingly original in any regard and they could use a slice of humble pie. Literally got nauseous watching the cook prepare items in his regular clothes, not cleaning the board after orders or ever changing his gloves when walking in and out the back door, cross contamination everywhere. Back to this little rude girl at the register, she was going back and forth from the fryer to the register, to her pockets to the register again and never one time grabing sanitizer or washing her dirty lil hands. She kept turning her back while I was in mid sentence, responding "I don't know" to my questions instead of asking the cook until I asked her to..., just zero social or customer service skills. Once again, the education system has failed us. It's pathetic. Advice to management: Hiring your rude self entitled family members will continue to hurt your credibility within the community. Furthermore, these nasty attitudes perpetuates the very unfortunate and unecessary stereotypes many of us small black businesses owners work hard at day after day to overcome to do what we love to do. Clean that rediculously filthy kitchen and train these two on how to safely handle food before someone gets hurt or makes a call.... That should easily increase your below average food safety rating on the door.
