Still not in a container truck

I used United for a prior container move, without issue, so I chose them again when I needed another container move. I signed an agreement for a container move, which the salesperson sold to me as "fewer moves of items" so less chance that something will break or get damaged. However, my items were picked up in a regular moving truck and delivered in a regular moving truck. This agreement was changed without my consent and without any prior communication. When I did this same move with United a few years ago, my items were picked up two buildings south in a container truck (so, why can't they be delivered in a container truck to almost the exact same location) and my items were delivered in a container truck in FL (so, clearly container trucks are available in FL). When I tried to get a credit, I was offered $300, which is a fraction of a long-distance move from FL to IL. This does not make up the difference for the type of move I paid for and the type of move I received. I have not even received that credit and my move was completed about a month ago at this point. My moving coordinator escalated to her manager, who sent me one email telling me they couldn't do more and never returned my phone calls. The regional manager in FL was included on emails and asked to comment on what happened on the origin side, but he never responded. I found the VP of Sales on their website and reached out. He dismissed my concerns. Moving is stressful enough without having a poor experience and being marginalized for asking to make a situation right. In addition to having my agreement changed without my consent and without compensation, the movers at origin were terrible. They said they didn't even know it was supposed to be a container move, so they didn't have enough paper to wrap my items. They said they couldn't use blankets because they would never get the blankets back. See photo of my patio furniture in the back. The head mover at origin told me I should have had 4 movers; I had 2. The move took 7 hours and I incurred extra cost with an extra hotel stay because the move took too long. Additionally, I was unable to see how much space I had left in the containers (since they were not actually there), so I discarded items that I would have kept if there was space. I incurred additional cost to replace those items. This was by far the worst and most stressful move I've ever experienced. Use someone else who will honor the type of move you paid for and communicate with you in a respectful and helpful manner.

I used Johnson for a personal move and a commercial move, in a short window of time, and had horrible experiences for both. Many, many broken items and some missing completely, all of which they denied the claim for. Listen to reviews and avoid this company.

NOTE: Johnson Storage and Moving handled the initial pickup of our items for a cross country move. This review is in relation to a cross-country move, from Denver CO to Baltimore MD, in October 2020. We waited until now to post a review, as we were hoping to have some resolution of the damages incurred. However, as of today, August 5th 2021, we are still waiting for resolution. We signed an agreement with Mayflower Moving company to carry out our full service move. As part of that agreement, we upgraded to (and paid for) the full replacement insurance option. *** A quick note: apparently, Mayflower subcontracts their pickup and delivery services, so you potentially will have multiple different people handling your belongings at different stages of the moves. In this case, the pickup was handled in Denver by Johnson Storage & Moving. Long story short, the move was a disaster. Everything seemed to start out well. We had everything packed and ready for pickup as scheduled. Everything was loaded onto the truck and we then began our drive. First off, the delivery was late by a day outside the delivery window. Not terrible, just a little annoying as we had a 5 day window to begin with. The issues were uncovered at delivery time - multiple boxes were crushed and carefully packed items in the boxes damaged. Some of the boxes were very strong wardrobe style boxes with the metal hanging bar at the top and even those were collapsed. Several furniture items (an armchair, an end table, a console table etc.) were damaged beyond use. An expensive Casper Wave mattress (which was bagged) somehow got water damage that was resulting in mold spots, as well as what looked like dirty boot prints. Something similar occurred to a large, expensive area rug that had been professionally cleaned and wrapped prior to the move, We discovered after the pickup, that the items were unloaded from the truck and repacked into wooden moving pods at a different site. We suspect (but cannot prove) that this is where the damages happened. The damage is consistent with a crushing blow. Either something dropped onto them, or the items were themselves dropped from a height. Obviously, items were left out where the ground was also wet. In Baltimore, the delivery itself was horrendous, and that is not even included the physical damages. The team leader was incredibly aggressive to the point that we wondered if we needed to have him removed. He argued vehemently with the building management, refusing to wear a mask. The team damaged hallway walls, damaged apartment walls, dropped everything in the living room, were refusing to do setup of larger items (per the full service agreement we had paid for). A lot of items were left in the hallway for us to move. They basically just dropped things in the living room (left the coffee table standing on one end) and it was only when we insisted that they put the larger items (Couch, beds etc.) in the places they needed to be. We immediately contacted Mayflower and the Denver local representative. The Denver office arranged for $100 reimbursement for the single day delay. We were then instructed to file a claim through their corporate claims team. The immediate offer was $500; however as estimated damages were closer to $4500, we declined that and proceeded to file a claim. This claim went to Claims Team 2 at Unigroup. Since October, this claims team has been incredibly incompetent. They have lost the photos sent multiple times, they have lost paperwork. They seemed to be unaware that we had full value replacement, and for example offered $150 in compensation for a $2500 mattress. They only assessed a small fraction of the damaged items, even though the local assessor took pictures of everything and documented everything. As a result, the assessor had to come back and do it all over again. To date, they have offered only $525 in compensation. At this point, it's difficult to believe that they are quite this incompetent - it seems too deliberate, a ploy to get people to give up. This is not what we expected when going with a big name company that supposedly had a good reputation. This has been, and is, a nightmare. I have never had a move go so badly and in 20+ years, I've moved at least 18 times, including cross country several times. I could not ever recommend Mayflower or any of it's subcontractors for a move, particularly long distance. Our belongings, some of whom we had had over 20 years, were destroyed and they are refusing to do the right thing. Avoid at all costs.

If I could give zero stars, I would! This location provided excellent service in the past. However,…read moresince the marketing and ownership changed, both the service and quality have declined drastically. The younger staff members seem indifferent to your packaging and shipping needs. I went around 10 a.m. on a January Monday, 2025. When I got in the store, I saw the worker's facial/body language, and all it said was, "Argh, one of those annoying shipments," as it was clear that it was unpacked and big. Here's a detailed account of the interaction. First, I asked if UPS could do the packaging, and she said yes. Then, I asked that I would like to stick around when they did the packaging so I could ensure corners, sides, etc, were protected with enough bubble wrap. She answered that she didn't know what time the item was going to be packed, so I said I could hang out for 30 min and wait; then she gave a vast excuse that it could be for a while, 2 hrs, or more, blah, blah... not to mention that the other 2 girls on the back were standing, chatting and doing absolutely nothing. So then I asked, would you mind calling me when you guys are about to do the packaging, as I don't live far away? (I wanted to be present to ensure the equipment was correctly packed because it is over $2000 dlls). Again, excuses, excuses, as pretty much she didn't want to go out of her way and was just pure laziness. Facial expressions don't lie. I also asked her that I would like to add stickers around the box that said handle with care, fragile, and keep this side up. Answer: we don't have them. UPS doesn't provide Fragile, etc stickers? I want to ensure it arrives safe, I said. She goes... UPS doesn't guarantee it will arrive safely without damage because it is up to the UPS drivers. Once it leaves the store, we don't have control over it or know if it is being handled properly. Yeah, that is why the sticker will help, I said. Well, I can write it down with a marker. Her tone and face were like saying, " I couldn't care less." At this point, I started being sarcastic about her failure and the company's failure to deliver excellent service. So, I grabbed my equipment and said, "Thanks so much for your help. I am going to pass and try FeEx," she replied, "You will also run with the same issue... lol!" Well, I will find out myself, and guess what? The service, packaging, and delivery were outstanding! They exceeded my expectations. I also was able to watch them pack my ex-amplifiers, and I was even able to make suggestions on key point areas where more bubble wrap needed to be placed. The packaging was $25 bucks, and the shipping cost was better than UPS (Unwieldy Purge Shop). FedEx packaging cost was $25 bucks. So, from now on, I will be done with UPS! Never again! The staff is incompetent, unprofessional, and lazy, acting like they own the store. Customer Service completely sucks since they change their marketing and culture. I will find out this girl's name and update this review in case you guys end up in that location to avoid this useless employee. I dislike giving bad reviews, but I have to be honest and matter-of-fact in my reviews. It is never my intention to harm the business, but I don't think they will be losing a few bucks for a review. This is a multimillion-dollar company. Please see the photo of the customer being satisfied with the packaging. FedEx! Bravo!!

The employees didn't know how to fix anything, had to call the owner (I think), other patrons were complaining and it was a total disaster in the store. When I got to my meeting, two of the PowerPoint copies were missing slides!!! - the most important slides. I will not use this service for printing anything ever again. I would not suggest using this store for any service going forward for important print items. Stick to the pros at FedEx.

Then we came to our senses and realized it was going to take us forever and we are definitely not spring chickens! So we started calling around for quotes on moving our 2 bedroom condo to a home in the springs. We spoke to Sherry who provided all the hourly costs for 2 guys and for 3 guys on a Saturday with a $30 charge for gas since it was an out of town move. Not too bad. We weren't sure exactly how long it might take but we anticipated the move would be about $1500. On moving day the truck (giant truck) pulled up and 3 happy guys greeted me. Mike, Justin, and Pena. They took a look around and got right to work. They had us out of the old house in about 2 hours and handled everything with extreme care! As they were finishing securing everything in the truck we left ahead of them to head to the new house. Thinking they would take much longer than us we started unloading our cars and they pulled up behind us immediately! Two men showed up on time and promptly began moving. When I made my reservation, I was told all the "services" that were included, with one being that all furniture would be wrapped in blankets for the move. I noticed right away that all furniture was only being wrapped in stretch wrap, not blankets as discussed. I asked why no blankets were being used, they informed me that since I did not elect to purchase the blankets that none would be used. They reassured me that the plastic they were using would be enough protection and I took their word and had them carry on with the loading. Their loading & stacking seemed aggressive (to the point it made me question how well I packed my boxes), but I attributed that to the fact I was being charged hourly and they wanted to move as fast as possible. Once we were complete with loading, they made the short drive to the storage unit. While unloading at the storage unit my headboard (which was not wrapped in a blanket OR plastic) fell in the truck. I was immediately notified and told that American Master Movers would have a "wood technician" come repair the damage in 6+ weeks as this guy is "in high demand". The damage sustained to this piece of furniture is not repairable (see photos) and I asked for the article to be replaced. The lead guy of the move talked with his manager and agreed the item would be replaced. They carried on with the move until all items were in the storage unit. Part of my move included having a power reclining leather sofa & loveseat set taken to a residence instead of in storage. This was no problem for the guys, so they continued to the second drop off location. They were quick with bringing in the loveseat, and after about 30 minutes of waiting for the sofa to come in, I went to the truck to see if they needed any help. They said they were "completing paperwork" but were both looking underneath my sofa which seemed odd. A few minutes later they came in with the sofa and seemed very rushed to leave. We processed the payment, and they were off in a flash. Approximately 2 hours after they leave, I decide to check the sofa & loveseat to confirm the power mechanisms are all correct & functioning. I find the power recline function on the sofa is not working and being to investigate. I check outlets and begin to trace the cords and that is when I found that they ripped the power cords and tried to cover it up and "fix" it with brown packing tape. I immediately called American Master Movers and tried every extension and was sent to voicemail. I left a detailed voicemail explaining the issues that would need resolution (headboard & sofa) but did not get a response back. The next day I sent an email to Cameron at American Master Movers and received a response from "John Hudson" identifying himself as the Assistant Operations Manager, saying that Cameron (who is the General Operations Manager) "is out of the office until further notice" but promised the items I needed resolution on would be resolved. I provided all items he requested (original receipt of the headboard, and my availability to have an electrician come repair the couch). After my prompt response I have not heard anything back from American Master Movers. It has been 45 days since my move, and I have sent 6 follow up emails and left over a dozen voicemails with no response. I am at the point where I must dispute the charges with my credit card due the lack of responsibility taken by American Master Movers.
