Like Garth, I too was a "artisan popsicle" skeptic. I mean... how complex can you make a popsicle? You take liquid. You put it near a stick. You freeze it. If the liquid is tasty - you have yourself a popsicle. ... I was so wrong. I'm going to warn you right now, while eating this popsicle you're going to sound like you're in the midst of a wine tasting. Anyone near you, who isn't familiar with Johnny's Pops is going to think you're a tool and whisper "hipster" under their breath. Because it's going to happen. One of these phrases WILL come out of your mouth: "I definitely taste a hint of cardamom." or "The fibres from the mango give it such a unique texture!" or "The balsamic is really well balanced." Because these ARE artisan popsicles. And they ARE complex. And damn freaking tasty. My personal favourites so far: Strawberry Balsamic & Blueberry Mojito. I am still holding out for the fabled Avocado/Lime. These pops have my top spot for frozen treats on sticks. Nice Pops comes a close close second but there is one very important thing they do not have: Johnny. Honest to god, i'd be handing out a five star rating even if the popsicles weren't so good, purely because I believe the owner may actually be the world's NICEST person. This man could sell me just about anything. He's friendly, passionate about his product and gives a damn good hand stinging high five. Service Ninja extraordinaire. FUN FACT: You can order online! And they deliver! NINJA HACK: These bad boys are only $3 on cloudy days.

(I pinky swore Johnny that I would do a review and here it is - I promise aforementioned pinky swear will have no influence on my review) I didn't know Johnny's Pops were missing from my life until I had one. And now all I can think of is when I will have the next one, and where I can buy them, and what flavours I should try next. In short - I think I have a problem. I had the blackberry cheesecake pop. It had one beautiful enormous blackberry perfectly placed in it so that you could see it from both sides of the pop, and there were ribbons of blackberry goodness running all through the rich (but not too rich) cheesecake base. It didn't melt too quickly and I felt transported back to my childhood, when you could sit on the front steps eating a Popsicle and contemplating life for a good hour before that sucker was done. My pal had the blueberry mojito pop, which she pronounced "remarkable refreshing." Another friend waxed poetic for minutes about the salted chocolate (?) pop. Try them all - I'm going to.

I was never a fan of ice cream trucks that emit melodic chimes that spew out diesel fuel. Those trucks that offer artificially flavoured and artificially coloured popsicles. Some kids love 'em, but parents hate 'em because they're so bad. There's a great alternative in Vancouver which is also powered with a bicycle. Johnny's Pops' popsicles are made from real fresh fruits that are locally grown with natural flavours and colours from real ingredients. I tried the strawberry balsamic/basil and it had a very strawberry taste with hints of balsamic and basil flavours. It wasn't too sweet which is something I really enjoy. It's perfect for warm summer months and you'll feel good eating it too.

    They are delicious after all.

Maybe if I tried you first, and didn't know what was outside in the world I would give you that extra star, I will say you are very good, no doubt, and I would buy you again.... as a popsicle you currently lead the pack in Vancouver, and I'm going to leave it right there. With every passing year there is a new trend, especially for your chilly desserts, first it was gelato, then it was crazy flavored gelato, then we came to love the all natural gelato's and ice cream's.... and finally the popscicle is of relevance again! I love the bar on a stick when I was a kid, shoot, I used to build weird houses and planes from all the popsicle sticks I collected. I think back, yeah it was gross, seeing the food colored imprints on the sticks you just put in your mouth to eat, ah well we were young, we were kids, and that's a thing that Johnny's Pops brings you back to, a long time ago when things were simple and a mixture of frozen juice on a stick was all you needed. Well let's fast forward to right about now, so $4 is what you want for a flashback in time, and also we don't use weird stuff like grape 'drank' no more, only the best for your hard earned money, and what I had with my sweetie on this day was a blueberry cardamon pop. Wrapped in it's own see-through wrapping and ready to be ripped open like Christmas Day hit early, we were under some hot sun, needing something to cool our tongues, and hearing about this one..... we had to put our money down and try. The one warning I have to say right away, don't eat this thing in direct sunlight, and if your wearing bright clothes watch out for juice splatter, it's like drinking red wine on a swerving bus. Everyone licks and sucks differently (oh, this lines gonna get me in trouble!) and just like watching an episode of Dexter, splatter may occur and the one we had definitely could stain, with the help of the sun beading on our precious bar, even your nice clean white shoes could get stained good. The reason for the warning is that I've had what you call "Artisan" pops in NYC prior to this encounter, with a higher temperature going on there, I found that those pops held up a bit better to the heat than these ones... but isn't this just nitpicking.... I'm glad for this new revolution of frozen treats cooling us off in the summer, and I thank Johnny Pops for the flavor that me and my sweetie decided to have (blueberry, cardamon), it was good, the flavors were deep, they melded together quite nicely (Johnny did his homework and had some good guinea pigs!), and I would happily pay again. I just hope that this evolution of the popscicle gets to a storefront where more things could be added to the final product of the bar in your hand (sprinkles, coatings, etc.). The price is $4, real fruit juice, frozen, it maybe a little steep for some when you really think of it but they are good, I will vouch for that. It's just that I've had something similiar to you, and because of the price and the variety (let alone options) I have to with-hold that extra bling that turns this to a flaming 'RED' review.

    Tasted just like the drink!

Reading all the great reviews, I had to try one of these popsicles. Are they as amazing as everyone says they are? Yes, they are! I got mine from the little freezer at Welks on Main, as I walk by all the time. There were lots of yummy flavours to choose from, it was hard to decide. I ended up getting the Blackberry Mojito, which I thought might be a bit too sour, but it was perfect. It honestly tasted exactly like a Blackberry Mojito drink. I also love the fact that all the ingredients are listed on the back of the package, so you know exactly what you're getting. By far the best popsicle I've ever had!

L -R: mango yogurt strawberry, Vietnamese coffee, double chocolate, creamy strawberry lemonade, and coconut raspberry.

We had the Johnny's Pops and red cart at my son's wedding recently. First I want to say that Johnny is very easy going and flexible to work with in arranging for the cart booking. Before the booking, I did a taste test and got several flavours from their cart at the Trout Lake farmers market. I wouldn't normally spend more than a couple dollars on a popsicle, but the balance, depth, and purity of the flavours he offers in these pops is well worth it! His product is definitely quality, and not your everyday popsicle! Johnny's Pops was perfect for our late afternoon event (it was low 20 degrees C and after raining all morning), as the popsicle was light and refreshing, not overly sweet yet tasty! The popsicle cart/pops really added to the fun and festive atmosphere of our event! Thank you, Johnny for helping us to have a successful and memorable day! At our event we had the following flavours: Mango yogurt strawberry: you can taste all three flavours in one popsicle; very popular with our crowd. Vietnamese coffee: tastes akin to having a frozen, stronger tasting Tim Horton's Ice Cap - was a hit with the adults! Double chocolate: way better than any fudgesicle you'll ever taste! Creamy strawberry lemonade: refreshing with a zing; great balance of sweet and tart. Coconut raspberry: smooth and fruity; probably the most subtle tasting popsicle of the flavours we had that day. Don't hesitate to try Johnny's Pops while at the farmers markets if you haven't already done so!

    Raspberry coconut and avocado lime

These are super great! Especially the avocado lime. It's the best flavour. The value and flavour are there. It's $3.50 for one which is way cheaper than the other Popsicle places in the city. There aren't any toppings but who needs toppings when the flavour is already amazing! The blueberry cheesecake one is super delicious also. I find the vegan ones to all be a little sour. It's great that real ingredients are used and the flavours are divine!

    Johnny's a popular guy!

I was here for the Food Cart Fest and Johnnys avocado lime pop caught my eye. Its honestly not as weird as it sounds, actually quite the opposite! Yummy, refreshing and to die for! This is a great example of never judge a book by its cover - if I hadn't given this 'Artisan Popsicle' bike a chance, I wouldn't I known an avacado lolly can actually be yummy! Love this little bicycle cart and will hunt Johnny down to try all the other flavours!

Kid, mother and foodie approved! We were lucky enough to have Johnny's Pops at the Food Truck Festival this summer. My on son is picky - I mean super picky - when it comes to his popsicles. We've tried several locally made artisan popsicles and they have always been a fail. He loved these and so did the entire family. Just the right texture, sweetness (not too much) and unique flavor combinations. A great treat on a hot Vancouver day! Thanks Johnny!

Turns out looking for vegan eats at the Shipyards Night Market is pretty easy, with many vendors offering at least one such itemon their menu. Johnny's Pops caught my eye because of it, and because the popsicle I tried had intriguing ingredients. The strawberry basil balsamic popsicle ($3.50 or 3 for $10) has intense real strawberry flavour (like eating real strawberries, including a slightly slimy real-pulp texture, but quite sour) with noticeable hints of basil and balsamic to make the flavour less predictable and more intriguing. Overall, interesting to try but for me (personal preference) the sourness was somewhat off-putting. I do normally like sour desserts to end dinner on a lighter note but in a citrusy way.

Johnny's Popsicles are the best. Tried the Strawberry Lemonade and Salted Milk Chocolate Popsicles. Great product. So delicious and all natural. Can't wait to try all the flavours. $3.50 each or 3 for $10. Totally worth it!

    Creamy strawberry lemonade was aaaamazing

Creamy strawberry lemonade was aaaaaamazing. Must try.

Blueberry Mojito - it was so good I forgot to take a picture of the whole thing! Organic blueberries with a bitter simple syrup.

First things first, this doesn't have the oomph and character coolness of Japadog that locals and visitors have grown to love. No long line ups here, no uniformed Japanese speaking staff, no photos of hotdogs with different toppings, and yes, no photo of Ice Cube too. There was only a friendly smile from the owner and one unique item offering which was the tandoori dog, choice of either kosher beef or kosher chicken. For $5.50, it was just plain and ordinary with only a hint of tandoori flavour basted on the hotdog. Despite the onions being nicely cooked in butter, bread rightly toasted, it was just boilerplate okay. It lacked creativity, texture and presentation, the wow factor. I was expecting toppings as chutney, yogurt, maybe paneer, or some curry infused side condiments, but there was only mustard, ketchup, and bbq sauce, typical for the dirty water dog varieties, not a stand named as Tandoori Tikka Dog. Sigh. Didn't mean to be the bearer of bad news here, but I'm giving it 2.5 stars and hoping they could improve as there's still lots of room left for more ethnic fusion street foods here in Vancouver. Meanwhile, I don't think it deserves a visit from Anthony Bourdain as of yet.
