Great spot for a casual lunch with a friend. I had a Caesar salad with shrimp. It was delicious, however I thought that $9 for 3 large shrimp (not jumbo) was a bit much, but also I expect a higher price at a Foreman property because I do expect perfection. I really wanted to like this place. It should be a great neighborhood restaurant in a high-end residential area. But... The seating was cramped, the service was uneven (we seem to have multiple servers over the course of the evening and they even tried to argue with us when they brought a dessert that it already been served) and the food was meh. One in our party was a vegetarian, but nothing on the menu indicated whether a food included meat products or not. In fact, one of the seeming perfect options was a soup that by its description should have been vegetarian actually included a meat-based stock. We all ordered varieties of salads some with meat and some without. The food was quite frankly bland. My salad had great ingredients but could have used a little salt or balsamic vinegar or something to add flavor and depth to the overall composition. Johnny's is adequate. It's a nice environment (but some areas are a bit loud), the food is good, nice drink selection. It's just not memorable. If you're in the area, it will do you just fine, but not worth a special trip. We got the spinach salad - totally fine, goat cheese is great. I got the braised short rib - it was a bit too fatty but the whole dish was cohesive and I ate 90% (minus some inedible fat). I will say you should get the cookies for dessert no matter what you do, and I rarely get dessert! Although I don't love Johnny's, it's a comfortable space that I do go to occasionally, just never blown away. The staff is nice and attentive. It's on par with Mount Washington Tavern or Valley Inn. Just came back from brunch at Johnny's and our party of 4 enjoy the food, presentation and our servers. The Heirloom Tomato Salad with cucumbers and feta with lemon vinaigrette was very tasty and the smoked salmon plate was spot on. Best thing about the experience: the burger- delicious and cooked to perfection (medium rare, and very tasty) We got there ten minutes after opening couldn't sit on the "cozy side" (on the left ) because we were told all the seats were reserved; when we left less than an hour later only three of the tables were filled with patrons. We then chose to sit at the bar, and the bar top didn't seem very clean for only been open ten minutes. Atmosphere was a bit diner-like on this side. Ordered the shrimp cocktail and the shrimp tasted a bit of freezer, the chips were pretty good and the sauce a bit on the ketchupy side. Fish and chips were adequate but portion of fish small. We loved their Honey Sriracha Cauliflower Wings! But oh my goodness my sandwich - the BLT with AVOCADO. What a winner. The bread was so delicious and tasted fresh the next day too because i definitely had leftovers. SAVE ROOM FOR THE COOKIES! Wow they are the cherry on top. Frequently eat at Johnny's. Service absolutely terrible this evening. Waited a long time for the appetizer salad. No big deal. Then after about 45 min no entrees. Asked about it. Server said order was not in kitchen and they would get right on it. Another 20 min. "Manager" comes over said kitchen was just backed up and there was no issue and was to be expected. Complete gaslighting and BS since other diners arrived after us and actually left before we got our food. Problem here is they did not admit there was an issue with the service and actually acted like it was just too busy. It was ridiculous explanation given everyone around us was served and eating and arrived after us. No attempt to remove the delayed entree from the bill. Offered free cookie but that was hardly what was needed. What was needed was to explain they screwed up and not get defensive and gaslight us. We have been eating at all the Tony Foreman restaurants for years. Definitely a major disappointment. Expect much better. The "manager" thin tall guy (nasal piercings) said he was 1/4 managers when I asked to speak to a manager about the service. Hardly helpful and actually rude. Doubt will be returning or recommending Johnny's anytime soon. Too bad since entirely avoidable outcome. A little customer service goes a long way. We came across Johnnys - tucked and hidden behind another restaurant - well Baltimores best kept secret ! The waiter was so very attentive - he used to visit as a customer with his mother - and now he works there - he was very knowledgeable and recommended the chicken burger - which was a hur with my family . I was lucky enough to be accommodated on a busy Friday night and I had one of the BEST experiences dining in a restaraunt in my life! Everything was perfect from the moment I walked in through the time I checked out. The hostess was lovely, asked if we had a reservation which I didn't and she assured me this was not a problem and was able to get us sat for 2 in this nice cozy room towards the back of the restaurant in a very timely manner, she had a bright smile on her face the whole time! Our server Rachel was absolutely perfect, she was kind, hospitable, and very clear when explaining the menu and answering any questions I had. The food was out of this world and you definitely need to try the airline chicken breast, it was tender, juicy, and very well seasoned. Rachel checked in on us throughout our meal and it felt like the perfect time to check on us each time I mean any time we needed something she was already there anticipating what we might need. The drinks were very well made too and they have this really cool Halloween themed drink menu right now which just look cool and tastes great, I got the "Who are you gonna"! If I could add more than 5 stars I would, 11/10 food, service and ambiance and I WILL be back again! read more

Had a little date night with the hubs and chose indoor dining because it had rained earlier and even though outdoor seating is covered, I didn't want to deal with random drops hitting me. Of course, it didn't rain, lol! Every single time we're at Johnny's is great although I much prefer having lunch there than dinner. I've done both and love both but Johnny's is a lunch spot for me. So dinner...I had the beet salad with shrimp as an app. So many textures! Loved it a lot. The salmon was cooked perfectly and the green beans were just okay (I prefer the ends cut) but the carrot purée was the STAR! It made me want to try and recreate it at home, no lie. My husband had the tuna and he enjoyed it. I had enough willpower to say no to dessert but my husband ordered it and our server brought us 2 spoons so I haaaaad to try it, right?! It was really good. UPDATED REVIEW Visited 4.1.2021 So today I visit in the afternoon after not visiting for about 2 years. I came in on this day because it was my friend's birthday and she really wanted to come here. Last couple times I visited the menu was quite limited. Well, the menu is nice and full these days. There were so many options to pick from that it took me a while to make a selection. Oh wait, let me start by saying, when I first entered the young lady knew exactly who I was and acknowledged that I was there for my friend's birthday as stated on the reservation previously submitted. ... Somehow my table person didn't know and asked what brought us in. Moving on, let's order! Beverage... perhaps. When we were first seated, we were given food menus and a beverage menu. I noticed the menu for beverages only had alcoholic beverages so I inquired about the hot beverage of the week/month. I know on their Instagram site, they're notorious for showing off visually appealing non alcoholic beverages that are either seasonal or limited edition. I asked our table person Gabriela what was the current limited edition drink and she said it was a "Cardi B something". She then went on to say it has Chardamon in it and she's unsure of what else is it. Well, I can't order something that I don't know what's in it. Although there's a Starbucks down the street, I would have loved to purchase my hot beverage from the same place I purchased my hot food from but ok. Crazy enough she came back to ask me if I wanted to purchase a drink I couldn't think of a nice way to say what the hell is in it. ** le sigh ** Food I ordered the Crispy Fried Chicken Sandwich and swapped out the mayo for a sriracha that was very good. My friend ordered the Fish n Chips and she enjoyed it. She swapped out her chips for green beans. After placing the food orders, we noticed we didn't have straws for water. We had to wait the entire time that we waited for food to get straws for our water. So we waited and waited and waited. 15 minutes later here comes Gabby. Let's get some straws. My food was picture perfect but the chicken itself had no seasoning. Thank goodness for the sriracha sauce. I'm thankful my friend enjoyed since it was her birthday. We've been to Johnny's a couple times for dinner and it's always a great experience. We started with the guacamole appetizer. It was delicious, but we preferred a different kind of nachos that were lighter and fresher. Then we ordered fish and chips and bacon fried rice. Instead of fries, we could have had coleslaw. For dessert, we shared a slice of carrot cake. I need to go to another espresso store as the first one was not cold. The second cup wasn't bad. I was also surprised that my espresso was $6.00 - that's a lot of money! Overall, we liked the menu choices and plan to return soon. read more

7 of us stopped in for dinner this past Saturday after a family event in the neighborhood. As you would expect on a Saturday night, they were very busy. We were warmly greeted and quickly seated. Some of us had the restaurant week offerings and some ordered from the regular menu. Everyone was happy with their choice. My meal was particularly delicious. This is a favorite of mine in Roland Park. It's gorgeous and homey inside with a great menu, great drinks, and amazing deserts. For brunch the fried rice is so amazing! Made a reservation through Resy to celebrate our anniversary. I called to confirm the reservation and remind that it is our anniversary and if they can make it special with a candle or something. I was told they have that with my reservation and they will definitely take care and surprise my wife. To my dismay, nor did they acknowledge once and nor did they do anything special. If I could I would have given zero stars for the disappointment. Anyways the food was also very average. The cauliflower was okay, I mean without the Siracha sauce it was just bland. Salmon was overcooked and so was my wife's fish of the day (Mahi Mahi) which was also overcooked but she liked the mushrooms underneath the fish. Ambiance was okay. We might try this place again sometime later but very disappointed with their service and how they dealt with this reservation and our anniversary. read more

First time at Johnny's! Surprised it took me so long to make it here but I'm glad we came in December to see the Christmas decorations at the bar! It was super cute and fun. They even had holiday cocktails to go with! Definitely recommend to get in the Christmas spirit! I ordered the crispy chicken burger, it was good! I was scared it would be dry but it wasn't! It was juicy and quite delicious. My husband ordered the salmon, it was really good, cooked perfectly. Crispy and delicious skin and the sauce, sweet potato purée, and spinach was all delicious together! The restaurant side was beautiful and cozy, if we didn't sit in the Christmas bar I would have loved to sit over there, next time! At this point it is completely fair to say that Johnny's is coasting by on its location and status as the defacto town square of Roland Park. With a full load of tables every day, they dont seem to worry about quality control or hiring staff that belong in the hospitality industry. They have always been inconsistent. Burnt or dried out plates would happen every now and then, but lately it seems to be the norm. The menu is also stale and boring. Their apps list is two different chips, two shrimp dishes, two oyster dishes and something else. Its been this way for years. On my most recent visit, my partner and I went in for an early dinner at 5:30. We got the usual cold reception at the host stand that I've become used to, however it quickly turned bad from there. Plenty of open tables throughout at this time. However we were brought to the diner side which was mostly families with unruly small children. We were seated among three of these families in the absolute worst two top I've ever been seated at -pushed into the corner against the server station. This table location is so bad, it should be taken out. Meanwhile children are shrieking nonstop and their indifferent parents just act as if nothing is going on. As a parent of two young girls, I have a lot of empathy for them, but their non-confrontational parenting style on display here goes a bit too far. If your children are shrieking and you cant soothe them quickly, leave. One child was in a full blown meltdown upon arrival, never got better and began wailing and crawling along the bench against the wall far away from her parents and stayed there in a meltdown for over ten minutes until dad finished his drink. The only bright spot in this visit was our server who was excellent, I think she was the only staff member that night who knew how to smile. I wish I could say the same about our food. It was poorly cooked, badly presented, and so dried out I kept choking on it as I ate it. The milkshake I ordered to try to salvage the meal was watery and not creamy at all. It also took forever to arrive, prompting our server to thank me for my patience. Seriously who can mess up a milkshake? Johnny's can. If it weren't for the lack of other viable alternatives in the area, this place would have died off by now due to its poor quality, tired menu and a staff that can never crack a smile. But since its really the only option in the area it will continue to coast by on its location and its perceived potential. You'll have a better experience at the McDonald's in Hamden than here. Trust me its worth the extra drive. Tony, you can do better. We all love you and appreciate what you've done for the city, but unless you can turn around the operations here, you're just milking your neighbors with a substandard experience. I want to believe that this can be turned around, but its been so long since this was good, that its hard to see it ever happening. read more

Went out to dinner at Johnnys last night, I've only been one time prior and that was years ago. Ended up sitting at the bar in the dining room area as the hostess told us there were no tables available due to reservations (we got there @5:15 before the dinner rush). No problem, off to the bar. What' prompted me to write this review was not the quality of food, (the burger and salads were great!) it was the bartender that served us. I don't drink alcohol, nor have I for quite some time. I don't seek out bar seating unless it's the only option and I understand some bartenders will not "make" as much off checks that don't include alcohol. His sense of humor was borderline disrespectful and his lack of interest regarding drink refills was poor. He made a joke to the tune, and I quote "when are you deploying" I asked him what he was talking about and he replied with "you're eating so much, when are you going to the war". I would not recommend his service to anyone quite honestly, but his behavior seems to be something others find charming. I did not find his humor charming, it was odd and inappropriate. read more

I love a good burger. And Johnny's burger did not disappoint. They include an old bay aïoli, which is absolutely divine and on brand for the Baltimore based restaurant. The service was phenomenal, and I love the decor. This place fills up pretty quickly, so I would recommend getting to the restaurant early for either at lunch or dinner. The parking lot is very small so you will have to consider a parking in another location. Other than that, this is a great restaurant and I will be back again. read more

The 12 minute wait after making my takeout order should have been a red flag. The chicken in the chicken sandwich is crunchy, and the buns are nice brioche. But it stops there. Flavorless chicken, not even brined. Coleslaw was an interesting take on the side. It just tasted like mayonnaise. The tomato bisque was, fine. Average. The same size container as my coleslaw side. For $10. If I wanted to pay that much for that little food I would have gone to Panera. However, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. My son did love the kids hamburger. So you get two stars.
