Well I would have said yes in the past. However, last time I came their wings were not the same I've bragged about this place for numerous years and have recommended many friends and family along with people who I didn't know. I would brag about their lemon pepper wings and there customer service was off the charts! Unfortunately another disappointment! After enjoying the farmers market and all the wonderful different smells of the surrounding restaurants, I decided to give Johnny B"s (my old favorite wing place) another shot. But to my dismay I was completely ignored. The place was pretty empty and they were cleaning up. I sat down at a table, made eye contact with the bartender and two other employees upon entering. None of these ladies acknowledged me. The bartender sat there and flirted and chatted with two men. And the cooks were busy cooking up some food. So I sat and waited for about 10 minutes. Then I thought to myself. Wow. Maybe they are about to close. But as I walked in, I recalled a family being seated outside. So I googled their hours and they did not close until 10:00 p.m. I waited another 6 minutes. Then realized not just their wings had changed and not for the better. But their customer service was ZERO!!!! How could a place employee such unprofessional, incompetent unwelcoming individuals? What a shame. Definition of "meh". It has a good location so you'd expect more effort but it's expensive but mediocre burgers, fries not included on anything (it's an extra $4.50 for them). Ambiance is "loud echoey hallway with drunk people screaming in it", menu is simultaneously too simple but also confusing with all the "we don't do this we don't do that" on it. My Husband and I overnighted in La Mesa and stumbled across Johnny B's for a Saturday Morning Brunch. From the patio seating, the incredible hospitality to the delicious food and cocktails we were quite impressed. We got the Buffalo Chicken fries (5*!) and the country breakfast (5*!). Some of their speciality blueberry lemon drop martinis and of course the mimosas. Such a beautiful day, with beautiful drinks and food that surely didn't disappoint. My husband and I were going here for their Monday night special. It was 7:55pm and we were rudely told they were closed. The sign says they close at 9pm. The waitress said the owner said to close early since the street was closed to be repaved. We like their simple cheeseburgers and fries, but disappointed that they chose to randomly close early. We hosted a birthday party for my wife on the back patio. About 30 adults and 15 kids. After fighting to find a local place to support the party on a Saturday I met Diana and she welcomed us with open arms and had some great suggestions for the event. Follow up the weeks prior was great. We worked the staff hard with good drinkers and they were exceptional. Truly amazing. Jeanie was amazing and Kept up with every request. Day after the owner called me to see how things went and anything else they could've done better To say this was a great experience is an understatement. 5 stars doesn't do it juSticE. I ordered the cheeseburger with fries, and it came on a try, with all the toppings ready to put together, along with an abundance of fries. Others ordered the chicken burger, green chilies burger, chicken and waffles. Everyone had an empty plate when we were done. Not a good experience, when you walk in it says seat yourself so we sit outside on the patio and no one waited on us. We literally had to go find someone to help us. No one came to take our order until we were there for almost 30 mins and it wasn't even a waiter who took our food? The lady who took our food just saw no one helped us so she came out and asked what we wanted. And then again when we went to get check we had to walk around restaurant to find someone to help us. So frustrating and I felt like it would've been easier to eat anywhere else. The only reason why I am giving 2 stars was because the buffalo chicken salad was delicious. I wish the service was great. This is a pretty traditional burger, beer, and sports joint. If you're in the mood for the traditional food from a bar, this is the place to go. Menu add some upgrades from what you would normally expect. The party melt comes highly recommended as does the chicken sandwich. I tried the jalapeño burger. It was average but fine. Nothing to write home about and nothing to send back either. It was cooked well done- as I didn't get to tell my server otherwise (I didn't remember and they didn't ask). The plus side of this place is the beer selection. They have some great craft beers and the prices are fair. If you are coming here to watch a game or have a drink and order food as a second thought, this place will work. Johnny B's is consistently great. I've been coming here for years enjoying the staff, the food and FRIES. Johnny's has recently remodeled and extended their menu including their wine menu! I love their burgers because they always toast the bun, French fries, steak fries, and mozzarella sticks are always a winner. They like to switch up the menu and see what works, always have a great stiff drink, and a wonderful back and front patio.
