We ate here probably five years ago and decided on a whim to go back for lunch while we were in the area. My wife ordered the Wedge Salad and asked for it chopped. Our server told us they won't chop it. Uh, seems kind of odd, but ok. I ordered the Patty Melt and Jalapeño Poppers. The Wedge Salad was drowning in dressing and had a ridiculous amount of blue cheese. My wife stopped eating it less than a quarter of the way through. My Patty Melt was overly wet and soggy with a mixture of soft, chunky cut red onions and a couple of mushrooms. I couldn't tell if there was a melted cheese slice or just some sort of goo cheese mixed into the onion, not even sure if it was cheese. Regardless, it was soggy and not very appetizing. I almost made it through half of the sandwich by pulling out the patty and eating it separately. No one asked how our food was after it was served. The lady who was assisting our waitress eventually came by and asked if we wanted our water filled. We asked for the check. She asked if we wanted boxes and we politely said no. Again, no one asked how the food was after we obviously didn't eat much of it and politely refusing boxes. Our food was gross. The service could have been a lot better. It sucks to throw away $60. We won't be back. read more

The website says the restaurant closes at 10 pm on Saturdays, so we decided to go there at 9 pm. The lights were all dimmed and there were no people in there. I assumed they'd closed since the close times had been removed for the Sat slot on the door. Seeing a waitress inside, I asked what time they closed. She said 10 pm, but that they stopped serving food at 9:30, which was fine for us but they did not seem happy about us going in and looked like they just wanted to go home early even though it was an hour before closing. We asked if it was ok if we stayed and ordered because we felt uncomfortable but the kids wanted to eat there. So we Ordered what we wanted, it arrived within 15-20 min. They checked on us one time even though we were the only patrons in there, then they promptly brought us our check at 9:30 pm even though we were still eating and they don't actually close until 10 pm. We've never felt so rushed to leave. While the food was a bit on the dry side, it was ok. But the service? I can see why the reviews are going down for this place and why there's no one there on a Sat night. They're literally chasing customers away. We won't be going back. read more

Staff older waitress is very short and always with a pissy attitude! Try to get the older bus lady she had no problem getting you what you need ie. ketchup or mustard! The place at one time had sweet servers. I hate meeting friends here in fear of getting the mean server! I ll keep and eye on the Yelp reviews. LOVE this place!! the best sliders and potato skins in town. Great service, Diana does a great job managing!

1st time at this burger spot, we were here for the car show on Thursday late afternoon and stopped to eat when we came in it was very busy no one was their to greet us just a sign to seat yourself so we took a seat at the window bar so we could watch all the cars going by at the car show, when we sat down their was no menus I had to go look for them which I found them on the floor by the sign that says seat yourself went back to our seats to look over the menu and after awhile it was get louder and louder inside the restaurant finally the waitress came by took our drink order but we were ready to give our meal orders but she wasn't ready to do that so when we got our drinks were ready to give our food orders but she and again she wasn't ready then we had to wait some more which was almost a half hour than she finally took our food order and it was another half hour before we got our food, we ordered the patty melt and the Swiss burger with onion rings with everything on the side because we were going to share out burgers when the food came out the everything was Luke warm they cut the patty melt in half and most of the meat was on 1 side of the bread so it was a very good sharable sandwich I would say don't cut any of your sandwich or burgers so people that are sharing will have even parts, but you did give a steak knife on both plates but you didn't give out any silverware very odd. When the waitress gave our bill it wasn't ours the bill showed 1 burger 1 fries 1 drink then she proceeded to tell us that she inadvertently gave our bill to the customers next us which our bill was higher way higher because we had 2 burgers and onion rings and 2 waters I felt sorry for that couple, they should've checked their bill & when we were waiting for our food 2 different times a food runner was trying to give us someone's else's food I have to say we will not be coming back to this restaurant and would not recommend this restaurant either in and out burgers are way better read more

Definition of "meh". It has a good location so you'd expect more effort but it's expensive but mediocre burgers, fries not included on anything (it's an extra $4.50 for them). Ambiance is "loud echoey hallway with drunk people screaming in it", menu is simultaneously too simple but also confusing with all the "we don't do this we don't do that" on it. Just really disappointed. Staff was nice, beer selection was good, but I won't be back. read more

Was pleasantly surprised how much I liked this place! The burgers are delicious, fries and onion rings were a big hit, and the cocktails were awesome. Will definitely be coming back again. read more

Overpriced for a cheeseburger considering the size of the patty. Fries are tasty but extra to purchase. Overall nothing to write home about

Well I would have said yes in the past. However, last time I came their wings were not the same I've bragged about this place for numerous years and have recommended many friends and family along with people who I didn't know. I would brag about their lemon pepper wings and there customer service was off the charts! Unfortunately another disappointment! After enjoying the farmers market and all the wonderful different smells of the surrounding restaurants, I decided to give Johnny B"s (my old favorite wing place) another shot. But to my dismay I was completely ignored. The place was pretty empty and they were cleaning up. I sat down at a table, made eye contact with the bartender and two other employees upon entering. None of these ladies acknowledged me. The bartender sat there and flirted and chatted with two men. And the cooks were busy cooking up some food. So I sat and waited for about 10 minutes. Then I thought to myself. Wow. Maybe they are about to close. But as I walked in, I recalled a family being seated outside. So I googled their hours and they did not close until 10:00 p.m. I waited another 6 minutes. Then realized not just their wings had changed and not for the better. But their customer service was ZERO!!!! How could a place employee such unprofessional, incompetent unwelcoming individuals? What a shame. So I will not be returning to this place I once attended twice a month again. Such a HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT!!! read more

Food is good. Service had declined horribly!! I used to come here weekly if not more... The last time I came here I waited over 15 min for a check after waiters cleared the table. Today, same thing. No offer on refills, had to ask for the check-it's been 15 min of waiting so far, I will no longer be coming here @ this rate. I do have other obligations to fill with my time. Not happy with this place at all. If y'all can wait 30 min for your check, come in. But I cannot. I work in this vicinity so this is not cool at all. I am a table of 1. I then asked another waiter for a check, she still didn't have it. I have cash to her for what I knew the bill was and left. Try somewhere else. read more

Not really impressed. There are a bunch of great places here and we decided to try something new on a Monday night. I opted for the jalapeño burger. My Husband and I overnighted in La Mesa and stumbled across Johnny B's for a Saturday Morning Brunch. From the patio seating, the incredible hospitality to the delicious food and cocktails we were quite impressed. We got the Buffalo Chicken fries (5*!) and the country breakfast (5*!). Some of their speciality blueberry lemon drop martinis and of course the mimosas. Such a beautiful day, with beautiful drinks and food that surely didn't disappoint. Holly our server was incredible too. Can't wait to come back to this gem when we're in town next. read more

Good food and drinks but prices have gone up too high. I now go to chili's or denny's for hamburgers. So much cheaper yet just as good!

We hosted a birthday party for my wife on the back patio. About 30 adults and 15 kids. After fighting to find a local place to support the party on a Saturday I met Diana and she welcomed us with open arms and had some great suggestions for the event. Follow up the weeks prior was great. We worked the staff hard with good drinkers and they were exceptional. Truly amazing. Jeanie was amazing and Kept up with every request. Day after the owner called me to see how things went and anything else they could've done better To say this was a great experience is an understatement. 5 stars doesn't do it juSticE. We will be back for food and drinks and also host there again. Very kid friendly, spacious area and great service Thanks again for helping make my wife's birthday so special read more

Service was great, however the poorest food I have had in years! Onion rings burnt and greasy, burger over cooked! It was sad experience.

We went to Johnny B's to celebrate a birthday, we had made reservations, so when we arrived the table was ready and waiting. Our waiter was great, and took our drink orders immediately. I ordered the cheeseburger with fries, and it came on a try, with all the toppings ready to put together, along with an abundance of fries. Others ordered the chicken burger, green chilies burger, chicken and waffles. Everyone had an empty plate when we were done. They also have multiple TV's everywhere, with just about every sporting event visible from any seat. Great place to have a drink, enjoy some good "eats", and watch your favorite sporting event. Every once in a while I have to splurge on a Patty Melt that I know is not good for me, but I just got to have it. Thankfully, Johnny B's makes a terrific melt that satisfies my sinful craving. I ordered Lynne's Awesome Patty Melt on Rye with a 1/3 patty, Swiss, grilled onions, and when this is all prepared together, I got to tell you, we have a winner. The melt's rye bread is perfectly grilled golden brown with a great crunch, (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/4HdLAM8EytsMIEG_zjQQWw?select=9f1dR8gBPSaEt5QTKp-cgg) the succulent onions are intermingled with the melted Swiss cheese, and the beef patty comes pipping hot off the grill. (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/4HdLAM8EytsMIEG_zjQQWw?select=pkm_v7cILkm_tYX2iQbWAQ). I savored ever bite of this Patty Melt. The Patty Melt cost $6.25. I also ordered some of the spicy wings. The wings are doused in their spicy red sauce then lightly dusted with flour then fried to perfection. You do not get those wings dripping with sauce that make a mess, but instead the sauce is infused into the flour when they are fried golden brown with a ting of redness. (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/4HdLAM8EytsMIEG_zjQQWw?select=V3fB1wbFtL2SkrJiDGyQ4g) The wings were great and had a good amount of meat on them. (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/4HdLAM8EytsMIEG_zjQQWw?select=fXjljxgnV0twElbbUZ-MFw) The service was very good as well. It was not over bearing and not to inattentive. My husband and I were going here for their Monday night special. It was 7:55pm and we were rudely told they were closed. The sign says they close at 9pm. The waitress said the owner said to close early since the street was closed to be repaved. We like their simple cheeseburgers and fries, but disappointed that they chose to randomly close early. We ended up going to the pizza place next door, which the street closure didn't affect since it was extremely busy. Very disappointed. read more

Johnny B's is a casual bar and grill in the heart of La Mesa. Our party of four ordered a variety of items on the menu. This is a pretty traditional burger, beer, and sports joint. If you're in the mood for the traditional food from a bar, this is the place to go. Menu add some upgrades from what you would normally expect. The party melt comes highly recommended as does the chicken sandwich. I tried the jalapeño burger. It was average but fine. Nothing to write home about and nothing to send back either. It was cooked well done- as I didn't get to tell my server otherwise (I didn't remember and they didn't ask). The plus side of this place is the beer selection. They have some great craft beers and the prices are fair. If you are coming here to watch a game or have a drink and order food as a second thought, this place will work. If you're coming here for dinner as your first choice, just know what to expect. read more

This place definitely did not let me down. As a foodie I rely on Yelp to help with my decision to patronize a business. I left a Gaslamp restaurant hungry and disappointed in the lack of service that we technically DIDN'T receive. Really hoping to get some food, a drink and at the least DECENT service. I got all 3! Johnny B's is consistently great. I've been coming here for years enjoying the staff, the food and FRIES. Johnny's has recently remodeled and extended their menu including their wine menu! I love their burgers because they always toast the bun, French fries, steak fries, and mozzarella sticks are always a winner. They like to switch up the menu and see what works, always have a great stiff drink, and a wonderful back and front patio. If you're hitting the Friday farmers market or Thursday car show this is a great place to stop by and enjoy some brews on the front patio and enjoy some people watching. read more

We were walking around downtown La Mesa on Saturday and got hungry. Johnny B's looked good, so we went in and sat down. Decent crowd, not too many, not deserted either. Kind of a sports bar burger/brew kind of joint. I had the double burger with bacon and American cheese($13.75) kind of spendy, but pretty damned good. My better half had a BLT($7.25) and we shared onion rings($5.25). You can see from the prices that it isn't inexpensive, but like I said, pretty good. The photos should show what I'm talkin' 'bout. I server was pretty on top of it, didn't catch his name though. Would go back for sure. read more

Not a good experience, when you walk in it says seat yourself so we sit outside on the patio and no one waited on us. We literally had to go find someone to help us. No one came to take our order until we were there for almost 30 mins and it wasn't even a waiter who took our food? The lady who took our food just saw no one helped us so she came out and asked what we wanted. And then again when we went to get check we had to walk around restaurant to find someone to help us. So frustrating and I felt like it would've been easier to eat anywhere else. The only reason why I am giving 2 stars was because the buffalo chicken salad was delicious. I wish the service was great. They need to have more structure and hire a host so waiters can keep track of tables and who hasn't been helped. read more
