Torn about writing this review so going to go through it a bit like a story. We saw a coupon in clipp undecided to try it out. Buy an entrée get a free entrée. It was a little skeptical, but the reviews looked great. Despite living here for a few years now, I hadn't seen this place before. From the outside, it looked like a hole in the wall, very unsuspecting. We walked in, and it was huge inside! Many of the tables are family style, there's a bar, there's booths and there are games in the back. So definitely the perfect place for families and parties. It has an older charm that harkens to maybe the 80s? It's a locally owned family business. Something I always wanna support. It was 8 o'clock at night so towards the end of their day and the place was almost empty. We didn't realize it was close to their closing time. That may be why there was no greeting and no one to seat us. So we just pulled up a booth. A cloth was left on the table as though someone were stopped mid cleaning. So I wiped it down and moved the rag to another empty table. The waitress came over and I couldn't tell if she had just been upset or perhaps was suffering from allergies as she was sniffling. Having said that she put on a good face and helped us through our order. Here comes the very good part. The food was good. Dad had a jumbo hotdog which he thoroughly enjoyed. Mom had the mini chili hamburger and was amazed at how filling it was. She said the chili sauce was terrific. Is mine determines whether or not she likes the place by their sauce that is high praise. I had the mini cheeseburger which was good. Where did jumbo size fries which we split between regular fries and curly fries. Then where they good! And if you've seen some of my other reviews lately, I've been on a kick on whether or not the soda mixtures or any good. This Dr Pepper was perfect, just like the good old days. So well done on the food. They had some specials but be aware that the coupon is canceled if you go with the specials. For example, there is a hotdog special with great pricing, which would've suited Dad. However, that meant Mom and I could not take advantage of the free entrée coupon. It's up to you to figure out the least expensive option if that's important to you. The reason the star rating isn't five star is a small concern around health and safety. I say that as one of the waitresses had some very large sneezes and I noticed did not cover her mouth. So between that and constant sniffing from the other waitress, I started to worry about whether or not we might be catching something. Perhaps we just caught them on an off night. I also got the sense that they were really ready for the night to end. So again, we must've just caught them on an off night. If you're looking for good local American food definitely give it a try, perhaps earlier in the day read more

Came in on a Sunday afternoon with the kids and had a really solid experience. First off, finding out kids eat free on Sundays and Wednesdays was a huge plus--perfect timing for us. The food came out quickly, which is always a win when you've got kids with you. The burgers were really good, and the crispy chicken wings definitely hit the spot. One thing that stood out was how they bring out a tray with extra toppings for your burgers--nice touch that lets you customize everything exactly how you like it. Their secret sauce is also a standout and worth adding to pretty much everything. The atmosphere is great for families. Plenty of TVs to catch the games, plus a small play area for the kids and even a pool table, which keeps everyone entertained. Overall, great food, fast service, and a family-friendly setup. Food always great. I appreciated the staff was always professional, no matter if I was alone or with others. Sorry, on 5-24-26 service was unprofessional. It surprised me, this waitress was abruptly unwelcoming and her attitude hostile, almost. Sorry, service on 5-24-26 poor. I had taken my Black friend to enjoy this place for the first time. There was a lady, fluffy and white and rude to us as she took our order and expression, upset. I asked if burger could be med well and she rudely said" That burger to thin to cook that way!"; this was said before I could change the burger order. I was embarrassed and silent. My friend being a retired doctor, became quiet and looked at me. Waitress took the orders and immediately, turned to a family dining near by. I apologized to my friend and said " I am sorry; there is a waitress, normally, here is very professional and kind. She would have not treated us that way. This Waitress is unprofessional and all of the other waitress never treated customers unprofessional. This rude waitress heard our conversation and when she returned her attitude was different. The place looks very homey. It's like you are eating at your grandparents home. There's several TV playing the baseball game and some games machine for the children or adults. They give you a tray of pickles, onions, and all the condiments which is nice. The food is delicious. I enjoyed that brownie sundae, onion rings, and tots. The onion rings, tots, and fries has a nice crunch and cooked to perfection. The sliders is also delicious! Will definitely come back again to try the shakes. Service is amazing! She was quick and helpful. She told us if we like the brownie sundae then we would like the shakes also. So we are definitely trying the shake next. read more

I would rate this a 0 star restaurant due to the fact that while me and my children were there, the waitress had a nervous breakdown and started cussing and saying the F-word in front of my kids. And then at the end of the night, when I told her, I was going to go and leave a review and also talk to her management, Hidie told me basically go F myself. And then we were the last people in there. And at the very end of the night, miss Heide had said to me, we'd like to go the f home.Hurry up and get out same person who had the F word come out of her mouth on numerous occasions.I'm not comfortable bringing my children back there to that fact.And I would definitely keep yours away as well. We had a gathering of 50 classmates at this restaurant on February 13th. The staff couldn't have done a better job of serving us. The room was large enough for us to move around and greet one another. Staff even took pictures for us. They were welcoming and the food was great. Service was excellent. We were in the area and Weevil Burger looked interesting. It was. A throwback in time kinda place. Big, roomy, banquet chairs and red leatherette booths. They are known for their steer burger. And that's what we both ordered. One was the double cheeseburger 1/4 pound and the other was the 1/2 pound bacon blue cheese burger. Our server was friendly and efficient. She always had a smile. She brought out a huge tray of condiments for us the use. Fresh sliced onion, pickles, and the works. The food was hot and fresh and came with what felt like a head of lettuce and a lot of tomatoes. Now... the 1/4 pound burger was dry, but tasty. I'd stick with the 1/2 pound burgers. Much more juicy. BUT... the 1/2 pound burgers don't come with a side so no fries. Seems like a cheap route to go here for the money. That said the fires that came with the 1-4 pound burger were good as were the few onion rings that also came with it. Service was great. I've been going to Weevil Burger aka Boll Weevil since the 1980's. Love it! Something about their secrete sauce and tray of condiments with a 1/2 lbs steer burger and onion ring & fries basket. A casual place with friendly service to get a great burger, fries and draft beer. Don't change a thing. Glad to see some of the restaurants are still operating since the Franchisor went under many years ago. I hated to see the Clairemont location close during the pandemic. Someone needs to think big and start franchising again. read more

Seriously - stay away from here. 90% of my reviews are 5 stars, but this place doesn't deserve even 1. The staff was rude and dismissive, the food took 35 minutes to arrive and was overcooked and cold, and we got ripped off for $60 for two burgers, one drink and one order of fries. 2024-12-01 Evening incident - Simply "Bait and Switch" to draw you in .. But Weevil Burger won't honor their coupons, and you're paying full price. I had the waitress take the coupon and confirm with the manager, so there was no misunderstanding. The Weevil Burger won't accept "any online coupons", this one was from Clipp dot com (formerly Local Flavor dot com) Although the coupon stated The Weevil Burger name, address, and valid date. pic attached Clipp dot com just responded to my inquiry and stated Weevil Burger's Coupon is valid and Clipp dot com will reach out to them. Standard practice for "failure to honor" their coupons? It's odd for both the waitress and manager to miss this. I'll wait to see a Weevil Burger response or perhaps others with the same experience. First visit this past weekend and sadly, disappointing, Server (#11) appeared uncaring/just going through motions (maybe having an "off night"). Server took the order, delivered the meal and presented bill, all other time was spent behind the counter doing seemingly little/nothing rather than checking on customers. Patty Melt and Blue Cheese Burger were entrées. Patty Melt was a success - Blue Cheese Bacon Burger was a disaster. Ordered medium rare burger and received an overcooked/well-done 1/2lb patty. Insult to injury, the bacon, which resembled a piece of brown shoe leather, looked as though it had been cooked early in the day or possibly the day before. Weevil Burger maybe the place to watch sports on big screen TVs (there's plenty of them), but on this night it was NOT the place for attentive service or a blue cheese bacon burger. read more

My wife and I went to have dinner on Sunday around 6 PM. We ordered two burgers we waited one hour and we still did not get our order. We waited another 15 minutes and still did not get our order. We ended up telling the waitress to cancel our order and we got up and left. read more

My boyfriend and I went in 11/26 at around 7pm and ordered 2 burgers and fries. About 15 min after eating that's when the horror started. The worst food poisoning of me and my boyfriend's lives. And when I called to speak to a manager the girl was telling me she can take a message. Absolutely ridiculous!! I am sicker than I have ever been in my entire life. We've been coming here since before it changed to "Weevil Burger." It's a no frills burger place. You walk in and they say to you " Sit anywhere you like..." The waitresses are nice and are very attentive. They have a wide selection of items, from sliders up to a 1.5lb burger to shrimp baskets, Philly steaks and more. They have a decent selection of draught beers and they are always cold! There are plenty of large tv's and there is always sports plating if there is a game on. Only suggestion is, if you get fries or tater tots, ask for them to be crispy. they stay hot longer and have better texture. read more

My husband has been telling me that we need to see how there food is. So we went there last week order one order of their special and order of sliders and paid nearly $40 something. There French fries were cold and their hamburgers had absolutely no flavor, no sauce, and in total bland as a food can be. Above there the waiters was grumpy and looked angry. One of my friends back home raved about this place, saying that it was one of the best burgers in San Diego. So when I was in the El Cajon area, I decided to give this place a try. This place is an old school place, that seems to have a lot of old timers who frequent this place. I wasen't sure if I had to wait to be seated, where do I go to order to go food. Unless you've been here before, I have no idea how to go about ordering food from here. Eventually I was able to place an order for their SD burger as well as their french fries in a basket (regular). Total bill was north of $25, which is crazy. At that price I thought it would be fantastic. I should've read the description of the SD burger, cuz it was just 3 1/2 lb patties stacked ontop of each other. This is a prime example of when more is not better. It was just too much meat. It was cooked well. Moist, lots of flavor and juices coming out of it. Fries were so so, nothing to spend $5 on. It was floppy. Not crunchy. They didnt add any ketchup or condiments. It was alright, but nothing to go back and get seconds from. This place is over hyped. I'm not coming back. The waitress was really nice. She was running back and forth, working the counter, the bar area and the tables, all the same time. Very disappointed in the service here. We weren't seated or tended to when we arrived. We arrived with 4 adults and 4 children. We ordered a salad in which the lettuce was still wet, water in the bottom of the bowl. I bit into a soggy crouton and that was the end of my salad. My nephew had a slice of pizza and was rudely told he was not allowed to eat it inside. We did not see any signs posted about this so we were a little confused. I also order a pink lemonade with sprite which I was told was the correct drink however did not appear to be pink lemonade at all or taste correct. I have been here several times. I like the old school theme atmosphere of this place. The burgers are good and customizable to my liking. Fries are ok. Service is not bad for 1 person running the lunch hour by herself. Majority of customers seem to be regulars and tablets are spread out. Last time I was in, I was a little surprised to find they still had the service trays with self serve condiments. I like where I can self customize the condiments to my liking. We walked in for lunch, 13 of us! We were immediately welcomed and waited on for drinks. The waitress was friendly. It felt like a throwback to years ago in a super nice nostalgic way. Our orders were perfect she didn't miss a beat and all the food was brought out timely. When we asked for assistance with the menu, such as how many sides, the waitress was honest and made honest recommendations which we appreciated. We really like this place ! They have a good sized dining room and their booths are very comfy and roomy . During the summer it gets so hot in east county, so it's nice to eat here because they blast their air conditioning and it feels so good . Their servers are very friendly and you never have to wait for refills and your food is served quickly . Their cheese burgers are delicious . We really love their cheese burgers . They have a special Monday through Thursday a 1/2 lb steer burger and fries for 6.99 . It costs 1.00 to add cheese , tomato and lettuce. I add grilled onions for 1.00 also . It's a perfect burger !
