Jinbei Assorted Tempura
Katrina V.

When I walked in I felt like I wasn't in OC as the decor had an izakaya feel as if you're in Japan. We sat at the bar and was able to order right away with the sushi chef. My daughter enjoyed the salmon roll variety. There's no omakase but they had a great selection of fish. The tempura was perfectly made. Not greasy and lightly battered with a perfect crunch. Will be back to try other dishes

11.6.2025 dinner It has been awhile since coming back to Jinbei especially since we no longer live in the area. Came here on a weekday with the kids for a family dinner. The service was great and the food was quite delicious! Everyone was welcoming and it was the same cozy local restaurant feel as I remembered. The chirashi bowl was beautifully prepared as was the sushi platter. These were both the same price and they were equally delicious - truly a matter of preference. The fish was fresh and well prepared. The kids enjoyed their udon, assorted tempura and rolls. Everything was delicious. So glad we came back! Will definitely be making more visits.

We always request to eat at the counter with Sushi Chef Burton! He's our favorite chef because he consistently makes the most delicious sushi, and is fun to talk to. Last night we brought new friends to try it with us, and they loved it, too!

Tempura and sashimi combo

Came here for lunch from San Diego. I had the tempura and sashimi lunch combo and my husband had the eel bowl. We also had the takoyaki. Tempura was delicious and light. Sashimi was fresh. Hubby enjoyed his eel bowl with the pickles and plum. Takoyaki had generous chunks of octopus and was nice and crunchy. Would come back when we are in the area. Customer service was great!

You can't go wrong with omakase at the sushi bar with Burton! He is amazing and makes an awesome variety of fresh and high quality sushi! This time we also got a bottle of sake, and it was perfectly chilled and so refreshing. We always have such a wonderful experience here.

Honestly, this place is so good and conveniently located close to where I live! I love how it has been newly renovated, the interior is a lot more authentic than before, service could have a bit more improvement in terms of pace, but it definitely has improved before the renovation took pace. Now the food. I actually really like the food here! I would say this place is an upscale casual place to have lunch or dinner. My family and friends always enjoy having meals here so I'm sure you will too :)! One thing is, I wish they had more selections on their menu! But the food here is very good :)

I came here on a Saturday for lunch with my mom and my dear friend to celebrate her entry into med school + her bday. It was my first time here, and luckily there was no wait. We were promptly served the hot tea and water we requested, and the food we ordered also came out very quickly. The presentation and amount of food we ordered was great for the quality and price. The unagi don was really delicious, and the little bit of salmon I had from my mom's chirashi set was also fresh and yummy. I would highly recommend this place if you're looking for a bite of Japanese cuisine in Irvine. I was surprised there was such a hidden gem in this plaza. I want to try coming back for their dinner menu as well sometime!

Our friends raved about the sushi bowl from here so we came to check it out. We also got the uni pasta ehivh we saw other tables ordering. The uni pasta was creamy but the uni was a bit small and wish we got a bigger portion of the uni. The sushi bowl taste fresh but it also included a lot of fish that i personally dont really eat like the squid, tomago, shrimp, and other seafood. I did really like the salmon and tuna and yellowtail , they were fatty and fresh. But our friend did earn us that we have to go right when they open because they only offer a limited amount of bowls a day. When we got there, there was a short line already.

Great sushi spot The fish is incredibly fresh, the presentation is beautiful. A great place to enjoy quality sushi

uni pasta

This used to be my favorite go to spot in Irvine and after my recent visit I probably wouldn't return...this place definitely decreased in quality but heavily raised their prices. I've always loved their uni pasta and get it everytime but now I see it's almost $30 when it used to be around $22-23. But since this place is so good, I didn't mind paying the price. However, it was extremely disappointing to see that the pasta was very dried out and it had barely any sauce to go with it. Do not get this dish unless you want to waste your money. Another point was the service. Now I knew the service is always a bit slow but especially today we only ordered 2 dishes one for me and my friend. My friends order didn't come out until 30 minutes after I got my pasta. Even then it was hard to grab our server as well because this place is very busy but too understaffed. This place used to be a quality restaurant I used to frequent but I'm sad that this has dropped to a 2 star rating in my eyes.

Uni spaghetti

Visited Jinbei to catch up with a mentee on a Thursday night. No wait, although the restaurant was busy and I can imagine how packed it gets! Everything was delicious, we got the uni spaghetti, the salmon skin salad. Yellowtail nigiri, and a spicy tuna roll. The uni spaghetti was a delicious umami filled bowl of pasta, definitely recommend! Overall, nice spot for a dinner or catchup.

I'll be real, this spot wasn't in the plans for my girlfriend's birthday but schedules changed and…read moreso plans had to chance. Spent a good amount of time browsing Yelp and OpenTable to find a new spot to end the night. Came across TEN on yelp and I'm glad I found this spot. I made a reservation and was a little late due to a previous plan that ended a little later than expected. They sat us right away regardless and the owner greeted us. I asked Brian what his choice of drink is and the crazy thing is I scanned the menu and this drink caught my eye, which he then recommended as his go to, the Yuz it or Lose it. My girlfriend had the Lychee Rose. Started with the Chicken Gyoza and Japanese Nachos for appetizers and ordered the BG roll and Keoni roll. Throughout the night Brian would stop by and made conversation with us a couple times, super attentive and super friendly! At the end of the night Brian brought out a surprise Melted Chocolate Cake with Ice cream and chocolate drizzle & whipped cream on the side, along with what tasted like two shots that tasted like melon? I'm not sure but they were a 5/5! There is a good amount of seating inside and outside. The mix they had playing through the restaurant was absolute fire and it isn't too loud either, you can still hold a conversation without having to raise your voice. They have a parking structure and you'll receive a parking ticket which TEN validates. Yuz it or Lose it: 5/5 A very refreshing and balanced drink. Lychee Rose: 5/5 On the sweeter side but still balanced and the lychee garnish is a nice touch to end the drink Japanese Nachos: 5/5 I literally had to fight the urge to not share these with my girlfriend they're a party in your mouth. (We subbed the spicy tuna for regular tuna) Chicken Gyoza: 5/5 I'm normally a pork gyoza type of person but these were great, nice and juicy and whatever sauce they have at the bottom of the dish was bomb. I literally poured that sauce into my dipping cup instead of the soy sauce that is available BG Roll: 5/5 This roll is tasty and very fresh since there are no cooked items in/on it and the jalapeños on top are a nice touch as well, especially with a little of that sauce from the Chicken Gyoza dish Keoni Roll: 5/5 The eel sauce is a nice touch to this roll along with the jalapeño sauce that they spread on the plate. Shoutout to Brian again! You've earned repeat customers! We will be back

Today we went there not knowing of the change. The food is now certainly "all you can eat" quality. We opted against the all you can eat limited menu, and ordered of the regular menu but the quality was terrible: 1. The toro nigri was chewy, very thinly cut, with a very small piece of rice. 2. We could not tell the difference between regular salmon and the salmon belly nigri they brought us. It looked and tasted exactly the same. Definitely not fatty salmon belly. 3. The yellow tail belly was chewy. 4. All the fish in their nigri sushi were thinly cut with very little rice. Definitely all you can eat amount of fish. 5. The rolls were small and for some reason all tasted the same with little flavor. If you like all you can eat sushi places which always offer low quality fish, you might like this place. I really enjoyed our date night at this sushi restaurant! Overall I felt like the sushi was…read morehigh-quality and had a lot of unique flavors that kept things fresh and exciting. You won't find your typical rainbow rolls at this restaurant (I do love a good rainbow roll though). The rolls we ordered were the Snowflake (which was flavored with yuzu), the Lobster roll (which was so much more than a typical baked lobster/langostino roll), and the Are You Kidding Me roll, which was big on truffle flavor and came topped with fried onions. I thoroughly enjoyed the Snowflake roll. It had multiple types of fish inside, and the yuzu flavor added the perfect fresh citrusy touch. It also came dotted with a tiny bit of sriracha (or some other spice) but it was just a hint and it's easy to wipe off if you don't want any spice. The Lobster roll was the star of the show. I give it a 10/10 for presentation, and it was also the best tasting one in my opinion. It was plated with a shelled lobster tail, which looks visually pleasing, but the most impressive part was right before serving, the waitress lit it on fire and handed it to us, as if it were flaming creme brulee or something. The flame actually wasn't on the roll itself, but was on what appeared to be a trail of salt (presumably soaked in some kind of alcohol to make it burn). It definitely was a cool effect and I've never seen anything like it in a sushi restaurant! Lastly, the Are You Kidding Me roll - this was my third favorite out of the three we ordered. It was pretty good but I think the truffle flavor was a bit strong. I'm also personally not a huge fan of fried onions on top of sushi since I think it clashes a bit with the freshness of the fish, and gives me too many bar food vibes. But it certainly was flavorful and my husband and I still finished it. We shared these three sushi rolls between the two of us and it was just the right amount of food to leave feeling full. Besides the food, the restaurant itself was nice although I'm not sure they really needed to have a live DJ there as opposed to having a Spotify Playlist. Didn't bother me but I don't think it really added much to the vibe. I would definitely eat here again!

Celebrated our anniversary !…read more Service was good and friendly. The flavors were beautiful! We sat like in the center of the restaurant. It's one of my fear LOL. But the flavors of the dishes eased my fear. It was delicious. I love salmon and uni when it comes to sushi and I would recommend others to try this place! Several people already saw my instagram post and asked the name of the restaurant! I'm very happy that the food turned out phenomenal! Toyko nacho (recommend) : it was messy to eat and had a kick of spice. I didn't mind the mess though. Lots of different flavors. Uni hotate yuzu: scallops topped with uni. Eating it was like butter. Sour flavor profile from the yuzu. A bit overpowering. And the maldon sea salt was interesting. So you get the texture of buttery soft from the scallop and uni and a crunch factor from the salt. 5pc Salmon nigiri: so fatty and buttery! If you love salmon then definitely get this. The presentation was so cute. It lays on a bed of ice. And throughout the dinner the pieces of salmon were chilled. Monster nigiri (recommend) : I don't think anything about this when my honey suggested order this. But once it got to the table and we ate it. Wow! This dish flavors stood out to me. The crispy sweet onions and sauce perfected the meal. Dragon: It was pretty tasty and decent. I know my honey liked it a lot. He prefers not to eat raw fish, so this was to his liking (I recommend to those who don't eat raw fish). Truffle essence (recommend) : The taste of truffle is weirdly addicting. The presentation was eye catching because the candle is keeping the truffle butter warm. The concept of dipping or pouring the truffle butter onto the roll was a fun way of eating. Snowflake roll: A lot of reviews mentioned this was a popular dish. I can see why it was popular. It's literally a bunch of fish in a roll! Haha, fish lover this would be perfect to order. Crunchy roll: It was a decent roll, but a bit dryer than I expected. Orders and ratings: Tokyo nacho 9/10. Uni hotate yuzu 10/10. 5pc Salmon nigiri 10/10. Monster 11/10. Dragon 8/10. Truffle essence 9/10. Snowflake roll 10/10. Crunchy roll 6/10. Thank you!

I had to call in my order (they are on Doordash but the prices are lower if you call). It would be nice if you could order through their website, but it's not a big deal. We got shrimp tempura, chicken katsu with a side of curry, and an Alaskan roll. The food was all delicious! My daughter could not get enough of the Alaskan roll. It's simple and classic, especially if you love salmon. The chicken katsu was really good and I enjoyed dipping it in the curry. They don't offer potatoes or carrots in their curry sauce like some other Japanese restaurants do, which was a small disappointment, but I still really liked the curry. It had that "spicy" but not spicy flavor that comes from all the flavorful spices like ginger that are in the curry, but it wasn't hot (we ordered mild). The chicken katsu was a good portion side and it came with a side of rice and angel hair shredded cabbage. Cabbage isn't the most exciting vegetable, but I'll take it. The shrimp tempura was great too. The takeout bag was packaged really nicely and the katsu came in a fancy little box, so even though we were eating at home it felt a little more upscale. But the prices were pretty on par with other sushi restaurants around here, so it's definitely affordable!
