I can't say enough good things about my experience here! I ordered delivery for my father who is ill while I was out of state. Not only did they get the food delivered to my father, they threw in some bread and delivered it quickly and they were amazing over the phone. My Dad said it was the best pizza he's ever had. Ordered the meatball grinder w/ extra cheese! Delicious!!!! one of the best in the area.

The change is management is evident . We got a chicken parm grinder and a calzone. We picked up the order and realized they gave us a meatball. Called to tell them about the mix up. Drove back and handed over the meatball. They yelled to someone that it was going to be their dinner since we returned it. The guy there said "what's the difference", referring to the mix up of the meatball and chicken. I replied "different animal". Anyhow, they handed over the chicken parm. No credit for me driving back even though it was their mistake. The chicken parm was so bad we couldn't eat it. The chicken was leathery fatty pieces like cartilage-all the pieces! We had to throw out the chicken and eat the bread and swore to never go back. Maybe it'll change but I'm all set. read more

I just came from Jim's. There was about 6 other people inside eating so the kitchen or help was not over stressed at anyone time. This not my first time at this restaurant and I have spent up to $500.00 a month eating out there with my family because the food and service was great. This evening the service was very good with Rosemary as always. I ordered their bean soup for starters which was good but cool, not hot at all. There was garlic bread that was very hard, knock on wood with those small slices. I did dip them into my soup but to no avail I could not soften them up. For my main course I had Ziti and meatballs. When I received my dinner, it was as if they cooked it outside, COLD and disgusting. Their sauce was the worst I ever ate there, and let me tell you I have had a lot of their spaghetti sauce. So I know the difference from their very good sauce to the crappy sauce, and tonight was crappy. The 3 meatballs were warm only because the sauce they put over the meatballs was warm. This meal was so bad I sent it back and I said I don't ever want to see it again. I have had better food in the military. The manager on duty I believe was Pam, she never approached me or asked what the problem was or can I get you something else. Pam's lack of hospitality in a "managers" position shows me she has no professionalism or cares about customer. Some people become managers because of hard work, others managers get that position because they are just part of the family. My days of eating at this restaurant are over. read more

Stuck in a time warp, had to pick up a pizza at the last minute, finally decided to try this old dinosaur not sure if i could be disappointed since I had no real expectations, well it lived up to it. Still can't figure out why the town of windsor can't have one decent restaurant, this is no exception. The service was excellent. However the pizza was not. I ordered the Hawiaian pizza and the cheese was so heavy you couldnt taste the pineapple or ham. it wasnt light and crisp but it was very mushy. Yuck! My husband ordered the baked scallops and they were full of sand. read more

I ordered Pizza and stuffed jalapenos from them to be delivered to my hotel. They were on time if not a little early, the problem is that I received the wrong pizza and it took an extra 45 minutes to get the right one. They were very apologetic and I kept the extra pizza. Have been going to Jim's since 1978...delicious food, very nice and kind servers, very welcoming atmosphere! My favorite is their scrod dish...always cooked perfectly, not over -cooked vegetables, and a baked potato ..the cook always does what I have asked regarding how I like my scrod prepared..even to putting crushed potato chips on top like I do at my home.....in fact, Anything I have ordered has been delicious! Despite a fairly empty restaurant, the service at Jim's was less than attentive. And the plates we were given were dirty. We ordered a chicken pesto pizza, which was fine, but nothing to write home about. It was also a little greasy. The "decor" defies description. Unfortunate to hear that some other reviewers have not had good experiences at Jim's. Every time I go, the food is top notch (especially the pizza and grinders) and the service is very friendly. I accidentally called the restaurant after they were closed one Saturday night to order a pizza, and the kitchen staff stayed after just to make the pizza for me. IMO, don't know how you can go wrong here given the quality of the food and how low the prices are. read more

The staff and food are amazing! I ordered something not on the menu and was told, "no problem, we can do anything you want", My daughter had a small pizza and I was shocked to see her eat the whole thing and tell me it was the best she ever had. She is a very fussy about her pizza and never has one without a complaint of some kind. I was amazed at the Alfredo sauce and only wish they were closer to Southington! We went back a second time this weekend and were blown away again. I had the Chicken Francaise and surprise my daughter had pizza again...both were delicious. Jim's is a casual family restaurant, with a wide selection, but the pizza and grinders are definitely the best things on the menu. There is a wide array of other options, which can be hit or miss; chicken piccata is quite good, flounder francaise is interesting, but I'm not sure I would recommend it in the end. Service is friendly and attentive, but things can take time, especially if you are ordering pizza. Take out is efficient and it is nice to have other options than just pizza and grinders when doing takeout. Also, GREAT for large groups with a spacious back room. read more

I've lived in Windsor for over a decade and I kick myself from never ordering from Jim's before! I love that they have 2 different types of veggie pizzas and that they have a buffalo chicken pizza! Their crust is AMAZING, nice & buttery. I had a few friends stopping by so I preferred delivery, but was told it was about a 2 hour wait. I ended up going with take out since it was 5 mins away from home. Inside looks nice & clean and everyone was very kind when I went in. Will return again! read more

The people seem nice and the service was good. They seemed to do a lot of pizza take out. We had the chowder and it was awful, too thick, too many potatos and gray/green in color. Like nothing we had ever seen before? My mom had a burger and it was as thick as a McDonalds cheeseburger - why ask how she wanted it cooked, it came well done because it was too thin to be anything else. Excellent, friendly service makes this a place you'll be very comfortable dining in. Generous portions and reasonable prices make the tasty food even more attractive. Dishes run from true Greek to Greek influenced Italian. We had the Pork Souvlaki (2 skewers threaded with marinated pork and a large mound of plain rice) and the lasagna (generous portion of Greek, not Italian tasting, meaty lasagna). Although we didn't order them, they have 8 flavors of wings- from "Nuclear" to Sweet and Sour, and their pizza menu is extensive also. Under new ownership this restaurant kept the same menu, but changed the daily specials. New owners also changed out the coverings on the booths. Other than this slight decor change the restaurant is still outdated! Attitude is everything, and the new owners barely say hello to you when you come through the door, and after several visits still do not remember you, and never thank you for your business.! The food is tasteful but over priced on the dinner items ! They should not charge for Soda Water.....it is just tap water with carbonation! read more

I am giving this restaurant one star because I cannot leave a zero rating. Haven't been to Jim's in a few years. Now I remember why......my wife ordered the pork chop. The waitress, who was excellent, said it takes a few extra minutes because it is so thick. Ok. But it wasn't thick. There was 2 very thin chops, but they still took over half an hour but tasted good. I ordered a half of a meatball grinder, no peppers. Since I was very hungry, my wife asked that my sandwich be served as soon as it was ready. Nope. I saw it sitting under the heat lamp for at least 15 minutes. It came out with the chop and the roll was hard as a rock. I was going to eat it anyway until I saw all the peppers. I sent it back and was served another. Roll was better but again, large peppers everywhere. The waitress took it off the bill, comped our drinks and gave us 2 desserts to go. Overall, a HORRIBLE experience. I ended up at McDonalds. We will never go back to Jim's. read more

Really nice food! The two soups we had (Italian veg and chicken noodle) were delicious without being too salty, and our entrees (Chicken Hunter and the cheese and meat lasagna) were terrific! A great, reliable dining option. The service has always been fast and the employees very friendly. The ingredients seem to be of a much higher grade than the uber processed "Sh!t on a Shingle" they serve you at Chili's, Fridays, Pub 99 etc... Example, the salads are fresh chopped romaine instead of that gutless, weird bagged crap everybody else serves. I've been going to this place since it opened(I was 7), pretty sure it was my first pizza and so far it was my last too, but I'm not done yet. Two weeks ago, I ordered the white pizza w/sausage, broccoli and garlic. It has a ricotta cheese base and is topped with mozzarella. A thin crisp bottom and crunchy crust that stands up to "the fold test". Glad I ordered the extra large, as there were only a few pieces left for breakfast. My last meal from Jim's was the Jambalaya, lots of chunks of sausage, chicken and nice big shrimp with a spicy sauce over pasta, but you can also get it with rice. If you don't see it ask, they are very accommodating. A nice selections of beers and choice of tables, booths or a function room in the back, which was hosting a Jr Soccer party. The Nicolas Family has a long tradition of community service. I remember when I was in school, if you got straight As, Jim would give you a free pizza! I never got a free one, but they are always will to help out those around them. PS ~ please realize that in the last year or so the Nicolas' returned the restaurant to the family's control. Previous leasers were not up to Jim's standards, the quality, service were low and the town knew it, as you can see in some of the reviews. Things have changed! read more
