I visited this restaurant since it was the closest steakhouse to our hotel on a recent work trip. We tried to order iced tea....and they said they have it..but they would have to brew some. Apparently iced tea is a no no to order in the fall or winter in small town Connecticut. I chose their 14oz prime ribeye for what seemed to be a good price of only $40. It comes with the mixed veggies (Broccoli. Carrots. Squash) and potato of the day (homemade mashed potatoes). The steak was a bit chewy and did not seem to be a typical prime cut of beef I am used to getting back in Texas. Maybe prime beef in Connecticut isn't as good quality, who knows. The homemade bread that comes out before the dinner is good but hard. It's also very garlicky. Service was a bit awkward. Our waitress came by halfway through and said she was checking to make sure we were well taken care of...but my tea was almost empty and she just walked off and didn't say she'd refill it. I eventually had to flag her down a few mins later to ask for a refill. At fancy restaurants, they just fill it without you asking. She also messed up my colleagues meal. He asked for no squash and the chef seemed to put extra squash on his plate. She should have remembered that he didn't want squash. Overall, it was a decent experience, but I just expected more from a fancy restaurant. You pay a little more for better food and better service, but we didn't get that here. read more

A very nice solid sophisticated option for dinner in Hartford. If this was a football team I would describe it as professional, well run with no mistakes. Starting with the service, the wait staff knows the menu and the wine list and can really give you nice advice and recommendations. The chef actually also came out to talk though options with one of the tables. The wait staff are there when needed but not obtrusive. The ambiance is nice maybe a bit tired but no complaints there. The tables are far away enough that you can have a nice conversation without hearing your neighbors. The food is excellent. Starting with the complimentary rolls that are clearly home. We had the caprese for an appetizer and it was presented beautifully and tasted great. While the name implies a steak house they do have an excellent menu that includes tons of pasta. I had the lobster ravioli. It had plenty of nice lobsters pieces, a wonderful sauce very similar to a lobster bisque and the pasta was al dente just how I like it. The wife had these large shrimp that were perfectly grilled with a light but tasty Alfredo sauce. The tiramisu for dessert was home made and very good. Dated date night spot, big portions but lackluster meals. We made the trek to this location because we wanted mussels and steak, and this place offered both. Came here as a Friday night date night. Early enough in the evening to miss the crowds but late enough to still go out and do other things afterwards. Coming up to the place, was fairly large and reasonably decorated if not a little non descript. Got seated quickly and was delivered bread to the table. Seats were harder than anticipated, and everything for decoration was clean but dated and sparse. We ordered the mussels to start while we debated on the steak choice. Munched on the bread while we waited, which took a good 20 minutes to get. We decided to eat the mussels first then we would order our entree Weirdly enough, these mussels were presented, flavored, and cooked all wrong. None of the shells had the mussel meat in them, it was all piled on one side of the plate. The mussels were overcooked, gritty and had no flavor. It tasted like they took frozen mussels, threw them in sauce, added a bunch of shells, then warmed it up. The Sauce was a red mananara watered down with red pepper flake added. We decided that we were not going to order the steak after that. The server never checked back in so we couldn't fix the blunder. And as we were leaving the server tried to ring us out for the mussels. They didn't actually charge us for the mussels, so I'm willing to chalk that up as a blunder. But it doesn't excuse the kitchen. From what we witnessed other tables getting, they do offer large portions of their sides. So they might be good. But this was not worth the trek for us. First time here with a party of 6 on a Tuesday night. Basically empty except for a graduation party. Decor was dated and the restaurant was very quiet, strange vibe. Server was very sweet but service was slow and drinks took quite a while - it seemed that there was no bartender around. Prices are steep and food is at best, lackluster. Gave this place a try 3 times with my husband and once with a friend hoping to finally like a restaurant in the Windsor area. Not worth the price, the food is mediocre. One time they gave me the wrong salmon dish and they took the piece of salmon off the wrong dish and put it with the new dish which didn't match because it had balsamic glaze on it from the first dish. This restaurant has service and outstanding food reminiscent of the 70's and 80's when the food was made fresh, the portions were size able, and the service was extra friendly. First time visit. Staff friendly and knowledgeable. It's a nice restaurant the ambiance is classic Italian American. Now the food. My husband had the linguine and clam sauce. He said it was perfect. Plenty of clams and it wasn't too garlicky. The rolls are made on premise and served with olive oil and sun-dried tomato purée and Parmesan cheese. My meal was a disappointment. I ordered a filet. It was cooked as requested but it was very chewy. If I'm paying a good price I want it to melt in my mouth. This was more the texture of a ribeye. It was served with a wine mushroom sauce that was delicious and the veggies and mashed potatoes were ok. I really don't like it when a restaurant serves mashed potatoes with an ice cream scoop. We were seated at a dimly lit corner table. Menus came we ordered two apps. Caprese salad was ok i guess fresh mozz should taste like a wet sponge the calamari was soooooo salty bland and only two peppers slices. Now on to the main courses. when we asked questions about the menu choices the waitress would grab the menu and read it to us and say oh that is new. The blackened shrimp Alfredo sauce was chunky chicken parm who can mess that up but the 24 oz ribeye was ordered med rare and it was rare but my 15 y/o ate it and the school cafe scoop of formed mash potatoes was even more astonishing !!!!! My son even said they are just like the ones at school My red snapper was very salty the sauce was runny and the 6/7 ( ha ) leafs of spinach were cold and i didn't even get my scoop of Mashed potato!!!!!Dessert nope we will pass and yes as another reviewer mentioned refill on drink offered when meal was complete I guess the on average mark up of 20% on menu prices was also a holiday surprise. $283 for lack luster service and average food . We all tried a different dish--veal, risotto, shrimp, etc. we all split the tiramisu for dessert and were given complimentary Sambuca. The dirty martinis with blue cheese olives were made perfectly. I love this restaurant, the food is amazing and they have a great variety of options. The cook/owner often comes out to greet his guest when the restaurant slows down. Giving that personal touch. The bartenders are very attentive and are always looking for ways to make the guest feel comfortable. The location is right is great, ample parking, the bathrooms and establishment is very clean.
