Grilled Scallops on Mascarpone whipped potato
Todd B.

If you are looking for a memorable, upscale setting and wonderful dining experience for your visit to Boulder, Jill's is the place. Located at the St. Julien, hotel, the ambience swathes one in Rocky Mountain majesty. Before dinner, consider a cocktail and appetizer on the lovely shaded patio just across from the restaurant. It's more mellow than the more boisterous bar of the hotel - which also has a great vibe. (We visited in August, and they change the menu often, so some items may not be offered). For dinner at Jill's - we arrived at open, which showed a minor hiccup as they got their ovens up to operating temp and servers on the floor. However, the brief wait was more than rewarded with a crostini appetizer featuring asparagus and pepper on an aioli bed. For the main course, one of us had scallop sushi which was actually pan fried scallops with asparagus delivered on a bed of whipped mascarpone potato - the operative word here is "hedonistic"! My partner favored the fire-grilled shrimp on a polenta bed. Excellent taste there as well. Pair your entre with one of their excellent wine choices. That evening we went with a Malbec. Dessert, of course is a must. The indulgent choice for us was a black raspberry cheesecake. We are looking forward to our next Denver trip where a drive to Boulder and Jill's is clearly in the cards.

Corned beef hash.

We had a family gathering for brunch at Jill's and were delighted with the quality of the food, the service, and the ambience. Philippe, the general manager made sure that everything exceeded our expectations. I had the corned beef hash, which was some of the best I have ever eaten. Other family members had pancakes, French toast, egg dishes, flatbread, and biscuits and gravy. All were excellent. Located in the best hotel in Boulder, I expected the prices to be high, and was pleasantly surprised when they were average with other restaurants.

Food had flavor but did not come out hot. Service was slow. There was food splattered on the wall we were sitting against. Eggs Benedict t came out and the eggs slid off the Benedict. We sat down and the setting with cups and cutlery was incomplete and was never really taken care of. We ordered a latte and it never came. Service was not good at all. Then while we were wrapping up someone came in and started taking down decorations?

Dessert Cocktails after a dinner and walk on the town.

While we only had late night drinks, they were beautiful, balanced, and interesting. I had the blood orange paloma which was a refreshing change from the regular grapefruit juice. The service was friendly, and we weren't rushed even at the last call. I will remember this place for a quiet yet nice place to bring a friend for a drink.

We loved how our table was separated from the others by partitions which added a touch of intimacy & romance.

During our stay at the St. Julien Hotel, we dined at their restaurant Jill's Restaurant & Bistro for dinner. We arrived and were seated at a private table in the back dining room. The aesthetic of Jill's was upscale and inviting characterized by warm lighting, unique artwork, and colorful vases. We loved how our table was separated from the others by partitions which added a touch of intimacy & romance. One of the highlights of our dining experience was the impeccable service provided by our waitress, Jennifer. Her genuine warmth and attentiveness made us feel right at home. Jennifer's knowledge of the menu, her willingness to make recommendations, and her dedication to ensuring our satisfaction added an extra layer of enjoyment to our evening For cocktails I had the Paloma made with Herradura Blanco tequila, Giffard pamplemousse liquor, lime, & grapefruit soda. The Paloma was a refreshing grapefruit drink with tart grapefruit & lime accents. For Zero Proof Cocktails we tried the Canyon made with Pineapple, Orange & Cranberry Juice, and Raspberry. This was a fabulous rich bodied fruit mocktail that was pineapple forward. For Salad we split the Grilled Pesto Caesar made with toasted pine nuts, pecorino, piquillo peppers & crostini. "This is the best Ceasar I have ever had" was the first thing Ross said after his first bite. The creamy pesto Caesar dressing generously coated the salad which was deliciously cheesy, garlicky & herbaceous, brimming with pine nuts and zingy piquillo peppers. A must order at Jill's (make sure to ask for extra dressing, cheese, and piquillo peppers)! For Starters we had the Camaron Frito, Crispy Brussels Sprouts, and the Garlic Fries. The Camaron Frito was made with crispy fried shrimp, corn relish, pickled red chili mayo, lime & cilantro. The shrimp had crunchy golden exteriors and hearty, juicy interiors. The corn relish & pickled red chili mayo added acidity and a spicy kick to the shrimp. The Crispy Brussels Sprouts were tossed in Beesquared local honey, sea salt & chili flake. The brussels sprouts were amazing - they were light and had perfectly crisped leaves. The Beesquared honey coated the sprouts in sticky sweetness and the chili flake added subtle heat. For Main Courses we had the Pan Seared Verlasso Salmon & the Wagyu Top Sirloin special. The Pan Seared Verlasso Salmon was made with teriyaki glaze, sesame pea shoots & yuzu aioli. The salmon was piping hot and had a flaky texture that fell into succulent bites. The teriyaki glaze added a savory and slightly sweet component to the fish. I loved dipping the salmon in the creamy & tangy yuzu aioli. The Wagyu Top Sirloin special was paired with diver scallops, local jalapeño & Tillamook cheddar elk sausage, and grilled German potato salad. The sirloin had a supremely tender and juicy bite with intense red meat flavor. The elk sausage had a savory and robust taste that brought additional depth and complexity to the special. To finish our dinner, I enjoyed a glass of Chardonnay & Ross had hot tea. What a meal! We loved dinner so much, we went back to Jill's another two times during our stay at the St Julien.

Before it got busy.

Came for a second time for lunch/brunch with the family on Christmas Eve. It was lovely and my dad declared that the chicken sandwich was "the best chicken sandwich" he's ever had. Can't wait to come back for dinner with my husband!

Pretty darn delicious. Great attentive service and a lot of good menu choices. Nice atmosphere inside, but, I have gone in the past and sat outside in the patio. We had the tots, which were mashed potato cubes with a light breading and a lovely cream sauce. The brussel sprouts were charred and seasoned with balsamic and granola. Warm olives - what can I say? Always tasty. Steak frites and a small salad, was a perfect entree. Also, had the Moroccan vegetables with lamb. Lots of veggies that had a slightly spicy tang to them. Caramelized and served with lentils, would have been super good alone without the lamb too.

Looooved our brunch at The Kitchen! We walked in with no reservation at around 11:30 and were able…read moreto snag a table right away. The space is cozy and bright. I loved the big chandeliers and brick wall. Our server, Skylar, was fantastic. She was personable, welcoming, and enhanced the entire dining experience. My friend and I started with the churro donuts to share. These were the perfect sweet treat (because who can have brunch without something sweet for the table?) It comes with a dulce de leche and a coffee anglaise that was so delicious. For my main I went with the fireside eggs. This was exceptional! Flavourful shakshuka with perfectly poached eggs, avocado and feta served alongside naan bread. This meal was comforting and delicious without being overly filling. I can't recommend The Kitchen enough! If I'm ever back in Boulder I will definitely be back. I would love to try the lunch or dinner menu!

The Kitchen is an American farm-to-table restaurant with an interesting gimmick: everything on the…read moremenu is meant to be shared from the appetizers to the main courses to the desserts. I came here for dinner with my husband for a work dinner and our party had seven people total. The Kitchen had a modern and rustic feel to it and the server was quick to show us to our table once our party arrived. We weren't really sure where to start, so a server recommended a few dishes for us to share and everyone ended up picking 1-3 dishes each. We started with a few appetizers: carrots which were slow roasted until they were tender and served on a bed of fluffy, whipped feta, crispy cauliflower which was fried until the exterior was nice and crunchy and served alongside tender carrots and a sweet tamarind chutney. My husband ordered a rigatoni which doused in a fresh bolognese, slices of parmesan, and fragrant herbs. We also had scallops as per the waiter's recommendation, but we were disappointed when only two scallops came out. It would have been nice if the waiter had mentioned that there would only be two scallops served, especially knowing that our party had 7 people. We also had crab fried rice, which I wasn't much of a fan of due to the saltiness of the dish. I ended up ordering the trout, which seemed to be a favorite around the table because of the crispiness of the skin. The sweetness of the candied pine nut crumble contrasted so nicely with the fish and the creaminess of the dashi yogurt paired well with everything. We also ordered a few meat dishes: pork belly which was incredibly fatty and tender and had a sweetness due to the brown sugar curing, espresso-rubbed wagyu skirt steak which ended up being fairly disappointing to everyone (the marbling of the wagyu steak wasn't quite as rich and fatty as I'd expect for a wagyu), and a double-cut pork chop, which was also incredibly tender and delicious. We also ordered a side of fries and everyone was so surprised by how large and thick the fries were, although it wasn't too different from other fries you could order elsewhere. It was a fun and interesting experience eating here, although I'm not sure I'd recommend it as it's rather pricey. It's fun to eat with a large party, though. The service can also be incredibly slow. It took a while for us to get the check or to flag down staff to inquire about the menu. We also had to fill our own water, which was a little disappointing considering the price point of the restaurant.

Brasserie Ten Ten - Pate

After a lovely day walking around Boulder, the Husband searched through Yelp and found Brasserie…read moreTen Ten as a nice option just a couple blocks off Pearle Street. We walked in without reservations on a Saturday evening and was lucky to have the option of dining inside or out. We were seated in the corner, which was fine except for the flies that would get trapped against the window and buzz right around us. There weren't really any other tables in the middle of the restaurant available, so we sucked it up. During the day, it was very brightly lit. But once the sun goes down, it doesn't become very dark. We were given menus by the hostess, but there was a slight delay with water service and what not. Eventually, our waiter did come by to talk a bit more about the menu. (I should note that the table was only set for a party of two and we were a party of four. So, it wasn't until our first dish arrived did they notice that we were missing tableware and plates for the rest of our party.) We mentioned that we'll be sharing a bunch of things, so this is what we ordered: The food came quickly and we did have to make room immediately. I do wish they would have paced it a bit better though. * Beet Salad $15 - They were kind enough to split this in two plates right off the get go. Since it's called a Beet Salad, I did expect a bit more beets than what was given. 3/5 * Roasted Bone Marrow $16 - This was a gorgeous presentation with three bone marrow halves topped with a little red trout roe. The accompanying buttered crusty bread was just wonderful. Although not everyone enjoyed the fig vinegar, I loved this dish! 5/5 * Fried Anchovy Stuffed Olives $12 - My mistake was seeing "fried anchovy", so I was surprised when the olives showed up. It was a lot of salt on salt. It was just okay for us and was the last thing on our table. 2/5 * House Pâté $18 - Another wow dish! The house pate was delicious! The Little Gal pretty much planted that in front of her so she could just focus on that. We did need to order more bread to enjoy all of the pate though. 5/5 * Tartare De Filet Mignon $20 - This was another favorite dish of ours and we ended up ordering another! Loved the red trout roe and crostini that came with it. 5/5 * Moules La Marinire 1 lb $27 - The mussels were so well cleaned and the sauce had so much flavor. It also came with a crusty piece of bread to soak up all that amazing sauce. 5/5 * Peach Cobbler - Before we ordered, I did ask if they had a dessert menu as I wanted to gauge how much food to get based on what desserts were available. Our waiter mentioned they had only two peach cobblers available and could put one on hold for us if we wanted it. And he did rattle off a few of their regular dessert items too. Since this peach cobbler seemed so exclusive, we did ask for that to be on hold for us. When it did arrive, I was a bit disappointed. It wasn't sweet enough for my preference. I'm not sure if it was because the peaches weren't sweet or there was a lack of sugar in the cobbler portion. 3/5 * Beignets $12 (to go) - As we were leaving, I asked one of the floor managers if they typically do something for birthdays and he confirmed that they do. He then asked if they had missed something, so I reluctantly told him that they did. The Husband did mention to the two waiters that we were celebrating a birthday, so he had told the staff. I thought that maybe because the peach cobbler took a bit longer, maybe it was forgotten. He apologized profusely and offered to send us with an order of beignets. We were pretty full and had a drive back, but he insisted and said it would only take a moment or so. So we agreed and I waited for it. The order came with 10 little freshly fried doughnut holes, lemon curd, raspberry gelee, and strawberries. We headed to the car and I enjoyed a few there. They were just okay though, nothing really special. 3/5 Overall, there were some really great highs and a couple of lows. I appreciated how the manager tried to make up for the error and did ask where we were seating, so I assume he could address it with the staff. We REALLY loved certain dishes and would return again for those. I would still rate this highly because we did have a generally good experience. 4.5 stars

However, there were people sitting on their outside patio. Hardy folks, I guess! My friend was nursing a sore tummy, so she just had some grilled veggies and mashed potatoes. She loves everything she's had here. It was my first time. I ordered the chicken bowl with yakisoba noodles. It was lukewarm, but that's fine for me. I think they must have microwaved it because it was steamier as you ate down the bowl. The veggies were crisp, the noodles perfect, the chicken was tender. It was spiced at what I'd call a medium level, and quite yummy. My friend then ordered their vegan chocolate pudding, which we shared. Yummy and light. My one big criticism is that they charge $4 for iced tea. I questioned it and the cashier was kind of snippy about it, but the customer behind me approached after I dispensed my tea and said she agreed it's too expensive. The meal was appropriately priced and there is plenty of food, but the drinks? C'mon. It's worth maybe $2.50. They really should reevaluate that. It's the main reason that I gave the place 4 stars instead of 5. The other people who work there were nice and helpful. I didn't grab a fork but the server who brought my bowl cheerfully went and got me a fork and napkin. Very nice. It's obviously popular, it filled up as we sat, with quite a variety of people, from babies to seniors. I might go back, but perhaps next time I'll just get water. I hope they don't charge for that!
