Im in sales and log a lot of miles so I get an oil change about once a month. I was in the area so I pulled through into the Maynard jiffy lube. I've never given an oil change much thought but the technician on duty Brad made me take notice today. Very friendly and seemed like he ran the shop well. They were quick and efficient and communicated well. Brad did little things like actually replacing my oil change sticker and asking if I knew how to reset the oil life reminder on my dashboard. little things but it made me actually aware of the service and how professional this shop was compared to other jiffy's and competitors I've been too in the past. read more

I grew up working on Jeeps and rebuilding engines, so I fancy myself knowing a little bit about car maintenance and repairs. Jiffy Lube has gotten a bad rap over the past several years, mostly for sloppy or incomplete maintenance procedures (leaving an oil cap off, forgetting to refill the oil, not changing the filter, etc). Needless to say I was a little nervous about trusting them with my (very expensive) vehicle. To set expectations, when done right, here is what Jiffy Lube is expected to do: - Ask you what oil type you'd like to use (conventional, synthetic blend, or full synthetic). - Remove skid plates and any other underbody accessories that might be blocking access to the oil drain plug or filter. - Open oil fill cap, remove oil plug and drain oil. - Remove oil filter and replace, hopefully using a sharpie to date the filter. - Refill the oil to the manufacturer's specifications. - Check oil level. - Clean off surfaces under engine. - Start engine and check for leaks using blue light. - Replace skid plate or any other accessories removed. - Refill any low fluids, washer fluid, coolant, etc. - Check engine air filter (and replace if you'd like). - Check cabin air filter (and replace if you'd like). - Check and fix tire pressures. As you might expect, this entire process can take a while. I wouldn't expect it to be done in 15 minutes; haste makes waste. I'd prefer they're careful and get it done right, in maybe 30-40 minutes. My dealership (Acton Toyota) takes about an hour and they also require an appointment; yes, the dealership is about $20 cheaper for a routine oil change, but the convenience factor simply isn't there. Anyway, on to my review... I recently visited this Jiffy Lube in Maynard with my vehicle, then with my wife's vehicle. With mine, I dealt mostly with Brad, who was super honest and reasonable about my situation. Most of the bolts to remove the skid plate under my Land Cruiser were rusted and he was afraid they would break if he tried to remove them; the problem was that the oil filter was inaccessible without removing the skid plates. Rather than breaking the bolts and pretending it never happened (you'd be surprised), he let me know the situation and told me the risks. He gave me a few options, and I went on my way - I was pretty happy that he told me the truth rather than doing things the easy way. What's the easy way? Draining the oil but not swapping the filter, which I suspect the dealership had been doing for at least a few years given the state of the bolts. I went home and removed it all myself. He was right, I ended up breaking about half the bolts. I brought it back a few days later (with the skid plates temporarily removed) and they did a great service; my son and I watched them with every step and it was clear they were very careful with checking and double-checking each step. I had the same great experience with my wife's MDX. No surprises with that one, just easy and honest. Kudos to Brad and his team for making this a great oil change option! Personally, I think your Jiffy Lube experience largely depends on who is managing the store, and the attitude and diligence of the people working there at the time. read more

Tell the car owner, after you have already drained his oil that your inventory system was wrong and you dont have the oil filter and it will be $14.00 extra to get one from down the road auto parts store and dont even credit the cost of the filter you would normally have in stock. How you could have kept a 30 year old customer and continue to have him refer business to you? Tell him about the filter mix up but say since we have already drained the oil, and you dont have an option anymore and it was our inventory error, we wont charge the $14.00 normally needed for a non stock filter. I had been warned by many folks not to go here...I wish I had listened. A kind neighbor of mine let me know that my back brake light was out. I thought I was lucky that jiffy lube was open on a Sunday, but I was wrong. They replaced the light, it worked for 3 weeks. The same neighbor let me know that the light was off again. I bring it back to Jiffy lube and they tell me that they just didn't clip it into place enough; so I leave. I then get pulled over and told a week later that the SAME light is out again. I go back to Jiffy lube and now they tell me that "it's been an electrical problem the whole time". So I have paid for bulbs, and wasted my time at jiffy lube for what reason? I bring my car to the dealership and they basically laugh at me because they said that the bulbs used weren't correct and that they actually didn't fix 2 of them anyways, so I had a number of lights out and had to pay again for bulbs. I won't be back. Additional experience from my father in law: he went to this same jiffy lube to get an oil change and there actually was NO oil put back into his car!!!!!! Awful. read more

On August 5th, I brought my 2012 Toyota Camry into Jiffy Lube in Maynard MA (store #1341) for a simple oil change. As expected, the man come out and tried to sell me a high grade oil that my car didnt need, and I asked for the $36.99 oil change and went into the waiting room. Less than 5 minutes later they called me and said I was all set. I remarked about how fast it was, the man laughed and said that "yeah, that was the cleanest engine we have ever seen". Again, he laughed strangely. I gave him an electronic coupon for a $5 discount that he snarled, but then gave me my total bill of $33.80. I paid it and went to my car. When I got into the car I noticed that it had not been vacuumed, the exterior windows were not washed and there was not a new sticker in the upper left hand corner telling me when the next change should be. I went back in and told that same man my issues and he said, "oh yeah, we must have forgotten all that." and laughed again. I asked to speak to the manager. I spoke with Matt Kelleher, expressing my disappointment with the attitude of these guys and he said he was new and had just been brought in as a new manager "to clean up the place." He offered me the chance to get these other services done and I said I couldnt do it as I had to be somewhere, as I was leaving for vacation the next day. Fast forward to the next day when I went to my regular gas station to fill up , and was telling the guys there about my experience. They looked at my oil and discovered that the oil and the filter had never been changed. Just as I had suspected. These guys in the bay at Jiffy Lube seemed high and out of it, as I told the manager. I called Matt Kelleher and explained the entire situation. He apologized and said that he would get a hold of his district manager, and that that district manager would call me by AUg 10 at the latest. Today is Aug 14 and I called Matt as I have yet to hear from the district manager and asked for his name. Matt gave me his name (Steve Derbyshire) but said he was "not allowed" to give out his cell number and that I had to call customer service to find out the status of the check _ WHAT???? So I called customer service and waited 17 minutes on hold to have the girl give me Steve's name and phone number, and tell me that I had to call him. So I called Steve and left a message - we shall see what happens in the next day or two, but I will NEVER, EVER use Jiffy Lube again. And I want my $33.80 BACK! read more

Zero stars! I was a long time customer, but no more. I told my daughter to go. When they said $121 for an oil change, she said no thanks. Jiffy Lube said too bad, we already drained the oil, you have to pay. I came down, and talked to the manager, saying that it's against the law to start work before agreeing on price, and unethical to hold a customer hostage. I said I wasn't going to pay. She said fine then, go. So I did. Then she called the police! They interviewed the Jiffy Lube crew, and they said they had given my daughter the $121 price before starting service, and that my daughter had agreed. The police came to us and asked us to return, which we agreeably did. With all of us there, the Jiffy Lube story changed, and they admitted they started work without authorization (manager said it was "Jiffy Lube policy"!), and that the manager had previously said I could go. After hearing that, the police did not file non-payment charges, they did file a detailed report, and with the police support, we left without paying. This is completely outrageous! Beware! The business practices and ethics of this place have nose-dived, and after many years of going, I'll never go back. read more

In the past, i'd always taken my old neon here and been more or less satisfied, but i was hesitant to let them work on my little smart car. Mostly because i wasn't confident they'd know what to do with it. However, when i called on the phone, they knew exactly what to ask about (am i okay with paying for synthetic oil, and can i bring my own tiny oil filter?). i had to show them where the engine was (under the tailgate floor, silly), but after that they were plainly psyched to work on my little friend. It's my understanding the location is under new leadership and I'd say if they keep up the level of service I received today there's no question it won't take long before they shake the old management's reputation. Never again! I have tried several Jiffy Lubes and the work has been sloppy but I kept going back because of the convenient location and open times. I went to this one the most since it is closest to my current home. Here is a list of JUST the problems with THIS one: Tires insufficiently inflated, missing tire valve caps, loose parts left on the dash. I had to go back for the hubcaps and to put the part back. I didn't know about the valve cap until much later after driving around with an unprotected valve. I was the only car there on a Sunday and they couldn't be bothered to a basic finishing check list. read more

I was in a jam yesterday so I brought my veh here for a quick oil change. Staff badgered me on about 15 items. Many of them were questionable including my coolant that was recently done and a burned out head light. What irritates me more than anything else is the fact that the headlight was working fine earlier in the day. I have no proof of wrong doing but I am very suspicious. The car was running fine prior to the oil change and now I have a burning smell. God only knows what this crew of misfits did to my car. It also blows my mind that they wanted to fix a small chip in my windshield. The chip was already assessed and fixed by my insurance. These people couldn't be any shadier. Please do not give them your business. They may damage your vehicle. They will sell you something that you do not need. Options are limited but this place blows! read more

I had a great experience today. Went in for an oil change, was helped right away, charges were explained to me very clearly, and the mechanic was honest about how necessary each option was. They were also honest about not knowing what an engine problem was, so I took it to my usual repair shop. Very nice to my 3-year-old son as well, who got to see the oil change from the waiting room window. read more

Worst service ever! All of this occurred on one visit: improperly attached my skid plate causing it to fall off when I was driving; did not put in transmission fluid when requested and falied to place the dip stick back in so I was unable to check it; failed to intstall a new air filter despite charging me for it and did not put the old one back in either. I wrote a letter expressing these concerns and the response was delayed and I was pretty much told that it was all my fault and that the technicians do not really know what they are doing as they are not mechanics. I highly recommend that you do not visit this location. read more

After paying for an oil change here, I got in my car, started it up and immediately knew something was wrong. There was a strange sound coming from the front of the car. I asked an employee to come listen. He claimed to not hear anything unusual even though I'd argue anybody who had ever heard an idling car would realize something wasn't right. I asked for the manager who at first said he couldn't hear anything either. He then had to admit he heard something because the sound got much louder. It was undeniable. The manager told me there was nothing they could have done to damage the car. I asked to have it looked over to make sure. It turned out that at some point after I exited the car to let them work on it, and before I got back in the car to leave, the front right axle had broken. They supposedly didn't notice. Though my car passed inspection about a month earlier, it is a 2004 (Honda Accord) and I admit the possibility that the axle may have been ready to go. But the fact that they either didn't notice it broke while it was in their care, or tried to cover up that they caused the coup de grace is enough to be infuriating, and shows you how unmindful they can be in their work. In addition, I was disgusted by one employee's rude insinuation that I was lying when I said I hadn't heard any noise indicating the axle might've been broken or about to break before I brought it there. If I had heard anything like the noise I heard after getting the oil change, I wouldn't have driven it there. I submitted a complaint to Jiffy Lube who merely said they were sorry I had a bad experience and they would forward my complaint to the company that actually owns the location. I haven't heard anything since. Given my experience and the many bad reviews I see here, I'm not expecting to hear back from them. They were great they checked my air filter and showed me it and told me I should replace it, and told me that my A/C needed alittle boost! I took my car for an oil change to this place.The guy taking my car to bay skidded the front wheels of my car and drove it very roughly: mistreating the car from the beginning. After oil change, only few miles away from the place, I noticed smoke was coming off my engine. After inspecting I noticed a lot of oil was spilled undercarriage. Next day I took my car to the dealer to check it out and they said the oil filter was loose and splashing oil all over the place. They cleaned up the mess, tighten filter and charged me $80. If I had not noticed it it would have ended up to major engine damage. SO NEVER GO TO THIS PLACE. THEY ARE IRRESPONSIBLE AND DISHONEST. read more

They do a standard Jiffy lube job, but they take FOREVER. This is supposed to be the quick oil change place. With 1 person in front of me it just took 45 minutes to get an oil change, and this is not the fist time I it's taken a long time. Although the couple with 2 cars that came in 10 minutes after me seemed to mange to get out at the same time as me. I WON'T be going back. read more

Cannot recommend. Went in for an oil change and got the up-sell routine that the other reviewers here complained about (check filtered reviews). They told me that I needed transmission fluid changed and offered to do it for $100. I'd better do it soon, they warned, for there were metal chunks floating in the fluid that could damage my vehicle. I declined. A few weeks after the oil change, I took my car to another mechanic. He noticed the Jiffy Lube gang had replaced my oil filter incorrectly, which had caused a leak. The other mechanic also said my trans fluid looked fine--no sign of the mysterious metal chunks. read more

I've come to Jeffy Lube to change oil in my car last Saturday. They told me that the rare brake pads in my car are very low and have to be changed. They offer me to change for $320. It sounded suspicious to me since front brakes wear out faster than rear brakes. I came home and decided to check it myself and was stunned: the brakes were completely fine ( only about 20-30% are gone). Now, can you imagining how many people are not going to take off the wheels and check it?! I'm not going to this place again (even it's very close to my house). read more

Have been to this location several times for services. Steve is a great manager and seems very passionate about his work. He seems to genuinely care about the condition of your vehicle. Yes, there's often a long wait as it's a very busy location. Perhaps they need more staff, as it always appears the guys working are keeping things moving as well as they can. My daughter was driving her brother and friends in an overloaded Toyota when she hit a pothole and thought that she destroyed her car. Desperate, she pulled into Jiffy Lube and asked for help. The staff could not have been more helpful. They pulled the car into a bay and assessed the damage. They checked the exhaust, suspension, and tires and determined that, outside of a major exhaust leak, the car was fine. This went a long way in calming down my daughter who was panicked at the thought of driving her car four hours back up to Maine. I offered to pay for their time, they wouldn't accept payment. This place has damaged my car twice. The first time they broke the dashpot on the glove compartment door while they checked out the cabin air filter so they could try to up sell me a new one that I didn't need. I let it go, fixed it and returned multiple times. It's a cheap oil change if you have a coupon. Last Tuesday I knew I was in trouble when one of the "technicians" was on the passenger side for far too long after I'd paid. No one said a word, but when my car came out I immediately pulled over and checked the glove compartment. The latch was broken. They tried to tell me it wasn't, so I called the manager over and she eventually had to admit that it was. But would she do anything about it? No. She refused to give me any kind of written admission that they'd damaged my car. Instead she told me to get it fixed and bring her the receipt, they'd pay it. I said, "Right. You'll forget me and you won't." She said "I'll remember you." Uh Huh. I look like I just fell off the turnip truck, don't I? Then they "called Acton Toyota" and told me I should go all the way to Littleton, get a "$12 part", bring it back and they'd fix it. Right. They didn't know what was wrong and nothing costs $12.00 at a Toyota dealership. I was out of time, so I left. The next day I called Acton Toyota and SURPRISE! they had no idea what I was talking about. On top of it, the Jiffy Lube manager was extremity rude. I referred to her service people as "your people" and soon heard her loudly complain to them that I was offensive and rude for calling them "yourse people." "Your people" is offensive? What was I supposed to call them? Stay away from this place. The service people are incompetent and will break your car doing the most simple tasks. The manager is rude, argumentative and refuses to take responsibility for the damage her people cause. It's not worth trying to save a few bucks and a few minutes, you'll pay for it in the end. read more
