So grateful for Eli! My car was making a strange sound and he fixed it on the spot and it runs perfectly now! Great Service!

These guys rock…read more They were recommended to my wife by a coworker, and we decided to give them a try. I had a quote for work on my Subaru that came in at over $1400 from the dealer; MJ did the work for 900 and did it well. We have had them maintain my wife's 99 Explorer and my 02 Subaru for many years (Until the Explorer rusted out (at 1778,000 miles) and the Subaru got totaled in an accident (at 169,000 miles). Mike & Jimmy were always honest with us about what the vehicles needed, their prices were fair, and they kept the vehicles running in top shape for a good long time. When the Explorer was rusting out, Jimmy called me and told me that before he started doing the big scheduled maintenance I'd brought it in for, he wanted to let me know what else the truck would need. After hearing the list of what was wrong, I asked him what would need to be done to keep the truck running safely while we looked for a new car - he saved us a BUNCH that way, and he kept my wife safe (All he did was to fix the serpentine belt (that was ready to go) and a nearly rusted out brake line). One time I had to have my Subaru's front axles replaced. When I got it back, there was a vibration in the front end. They took the car back in and replaced them again - no charge. But it still vibrated. They took it in again and tried a different brand of replacement axles - and THAT solved the problem - they had been given bad parts by their vendor. BUT... they fixed the problem - at no charge - because these guys stand by their work. Now that I'm looking for a replacement car, and looking at used cars, I brought the cars I was looking at to them to have them checked out - they've kept me from making one bad mistake, they are helping me get out of another one (I DIDN'T have them check one out until after I'd bought it - and their repair quote is helping me invoke the Lemon Aid Law and return the junker) and the third vehicle they looked at, they found four things I'd missed... and the dealer is fixing them before I buy it. Sure, it cost me a few bucks to have them check it over... but it was worth it, and I wish I'd taken the second car to them first, too. My "new" car will be being maintained here at MJ, too - when you've found a great local shop, you stick with it. These guys are honest, competent mechanics and they do damned good work. If your mechanic doesn't seem to be able to get it right, or you're tired of paying dealer rates - give MJ a try. You will NOT be sorry.

They called and discussed the work they would do prior to starting anything. And when the work was done, the price was very fair. They also had some other work they would recommend but were not pushy about getting it done. Overall, very fair honest reliable mechanics.

Since moving to West Concord, I have been exploring nearby Maynard, which I think of as "the town…read morethat time forgot". With its old mill buildings and depressed-but-still-trying downtown shopping area, little Maynard was once on the brink of wild prosperity during the 1980s when computer manufacturer Digital Equipment Corporation was pouring jobs and cash into the area like a high-tech fire hose. But sales of the company's profitable mainframes dwindled after it failed to successfully transition to personal computers, and it quietly expired in the late 1990s. You won't find them on Twitter or Facebook: Shorette's is a small garage right out of the 1960s, with prices to match. The dimly-lit "customer waiting area" is crammed with dust-covered displays of fan belts, replacement gas caps, and carburetor gasket kits. The owner/operator and his elderly father have run the place for ages, and there is an archetypal "back room" behind the counter where they hang out and play cards or do whatever old time garage guys do. I paid what I consider pre-War prices for a brake job, and business was brisk when I stopped by. Apparently word has gotten around that you can still get this kind of "No BS - done right the first time" service if you're willing to go out to Maynard for it.
