This was my first time getting a sticker done here, and I was a little hesitant after reading a couple of recent reviews, but my wife told me that she had been coming here every year for ages and has never had a problem - before or after the ownership change. I was there just before 8am, they were polite and professional, got right on it and provided some observations for me to think about at my next service. While I was waiting, I was able to observe other members of the team arriving and saw everyone treating each other with mutual respect - always a good sign. I just want to say I get really nervous bringing my car places without a man with me because I am a woman and as a woman you get treated like an idiot at a lot of car places. As a persona but esp as a woman I won't be coming here ever again. I got my inspection here and was failed because of a safety issue in the front of the car-- the front control arms. I told them I was going to get quotes to fix it and the man told me "actually it's so dangerous I cannot let you leave. We have to fix it here now." I explained to him I'm allowed to leave and bring it to get quotes and I think he realized I knew the law and he let me leave. After getting the control arms replaced I brought it back. The same man inspected my car and the owner again came to me and said "did you even get anything fixed?" I said "yes the lower control arms in the front" and he said "well maybe you didn't actually need to get those replaced, but the real issue here is your tie rod ends and whoever you brought it to must not be good at their job because they would have seen these are too dangerous to drive on" I was obviously frustrated because my car failed inspection twice for two different reasons, but I was also pretty distrustful of this place because they told me I wasn't allowed to leave after failing the first time. I ended up taking my car to another place near my new apartment in Watertown and it passed the first time with no mention of safety issues. read more

I went there for a simple annual auto inspection, and it was quick. The problem was EVERY employee in the garage SMOKED. My SUV smelled like an ashtray. Drove home with all windows open, despite the cold temp. Then, I kept the car parked outside for 2 more hrs, again with the open. I called the woman who took the payment to register my complaint. Oh, FYI, the mechanic did not wear gloves or masks. Guess they don't care about transmitting Covid to clients. read more

Great for inspections and routine fixes. I find them to be quick and honest. They are geniuses at finding slow leaks in tires.

Word of advice to the owner, you probably shouldn't tell anyone (let alone paying customers) to "F*ck off" when they question your unethical, fraudulent, and illegal attempts to make money. I want to warn ANYONE considering bringing their car to H&L Auto. The owner is a petty thief who punishes paying customers for not following his (incorrect) inspection sticker guidelines. Unless you want to pay twice FOR NOTHING, I suggest going somewhere else....anywhere else. I'll be back with the details but this man child just lost my business and the business of my family and friends. You can find my full review below: I had an absolutely TERRIBLE experience at H&L Auto in Hudson. The staff and (primarily) owner treated me and my car like garbage. I went there for a simple inspection. Which they failed me (with a red R) and when I took it to another local mechanic, the issue I "failed" for didn't even need fixing nor would the alleged issue result in a "red sticker." But I had it fixed (elsewhere) anyways just to ensure I would receive a sticker. When I brought my car back to H&L (within 1 week), the owner was not only rude to me, yet again, but he forced me to pay for the inspection a second time. The law states that if you bring it back within 60 days, the second inspection is free of charge as long as you return to the original inspector. I was told that they would not release my car without paying again. When I got upset, the owner told me to take it up with the RMV (along with a few "f*ck offs). Needless to say, I was forced to pay this "man" for an inspection and for the poorest customer service of my life. Not to mention that I brought my car mid February and he put a January sticker for no apparent reason at all (or to exercise his power). I am completely outraged that not only does he treat customers like this but that he is getting away with it. I SUGGEST NO ONE USE H&L Auto FOR ANY WORK THEY NEED DONE. NOT EVEN AN INSPECTION. THIS WAS THE WORST AUTO MECHANIC I HAVE EVER GONE TO IN MY ENTIRE LIFE, NOT TO MENTION THE RUDEST! The owner needs mental help and anger management. read more

I've been coming to the since they opened as the other shop I liked was always way too busy to accommodate me. They have always executed quality repairs for me on a variety of makes and models. They take my plans into account.. if The car is pretty much end of life vs it's a pretty new car they give me a variety of options to choose from, explain the differences, meet or exceed their estimates on time or price. read more

The new owner apparently bought the former Parente/Santino Auto location. Parente operated in Hudson for many decades. The old crew from Parente appears to be all gone. The location is ideal for people wanting a relatively quick in-and-out annual safety/emission check to receive their updated window sticker. Because of the location's long-time affiliation especially for auto inspection stickers the owner probably inherited many old Parente customers. So, I could see how it seemed like a good business idea to buy the place. I met the New Owner and Office Manager when they first opened and they appeared to be nice people. However, their biggest challenge so far is failure to execute quality customer service and to offer competitive prices. Their auto repair quotes were the highest out of five quotes I received for a routine repair-and-replace part job. I was in a rush one day and realized my safety inspection sticker was about to expire. So I dropped by. I was in a really great mood that day. But when I had simple questions about the safety inspection findings I naturally wanted them to explain them. Big mistake! The inspection sticker so-called "mechanic" became a short-fuse hothead with his face in my face screaming without provocation. He asked me why I didn't take my business elsewhere (OK, Done deal). When I started a friendly debate with him it turned into a character assassination of me. How dare I question the Grand Sultan of Hudson scenario? His Shop Boss tried to smooth over his aggressiveness but the damage was done. I felt like a guy being thrown out of the line on the old Seinfeld "Soup Nazi" TV episode. I found interpersonal communications and customer service extremely bizarre just to get a simple sticker inspection. I can only assume the so-called inspection "mechanic" had ZERO people skill training, was bias, or was decidedly hateful and immature. Did the man forgot to take his medications or what? The company claims to be ASE certified, implying ALL their car repair or inspection staff is. However, I discovered only a single certification plaque hanging on the wall for a single employee certification. So, how many ASE certified mechanics really work there? Perhaps a house cleaning of some employees may be a good start to bring in new customers and to keep old Parente customers coming back. . But for me, I will never do business with them again. There are thousands of ASE Certified mechanics in this area offering competitive prices and certainly a less hostile shop environment. For me, I have a strict limit of only ONE character assassination, per small business, per century. Life is too short for additional aggravation. However, if you have low self-esteem and need a good character whooping, or just want to ruin a good day perhaps this is the place for you. Everything is subject to change. But like "911" I will never forget their hostile treatment. read more

So disappointing as we knew they were "New" to the area, replacing the Santinos that retired...but we like supporting local business so we bring in all our cars for their inspection stickers. We have a ton of nice super and muscle cars to use with our foundation, etc, photos included because most don't believe - but yesterday the "New" guy that everyone has been talking about, insisted that he had personally DRIVE MY 755hp 2019 Corvette ZR1 HIMSELF - and I did explain for insurance, etc, that he knew that some allowances are made in cases like mine. He told me if he could not do it? TAKE MY CARS ELSEWHERE. So I did and about 4 minutes later after leaving this Jerk - I got my sticker - they INSISTED I drive my Car in as they did not want to damage, etc...PICTURE INCLUDED - So if you want to be told how they can USE YOUR STUFF as they see fit? Go to them - if you want respect? Go anywhere else - this isn't Santino's anymore. Enjoy the Photo, and to H & L Auto? I've been using them for a few things for the past year or so and I find H&L to be pretty reasonable price wise and very accommodating schedule wise. I find with cars you are somewhat at the mercy of the repair shop and always hoping they are not coming up with any phantom unneeded repairs. Every time I've brought my cars into them they have fixed what I've asked for and have not tried to up-charge me with extra work. Additionally they really know their Volkswagens. read more

H (Hatem) runs an extremely professional shop. He strives to provide total customer satisfaction. He is as honest about the problems as it gets. I used Santinos before Hatem became the new owner and I'm even more satisfied than before. Do not expect perfection because there is no such thing as perfection but know that if you do experience any concerns that you can have a reasonable conversation with the owner and he will strive to make it right. read more
