Worst place to get a car inspection. The woman behind the counter who took my keys later claimed that my hand brake was stuck and windshield wipers didn't work. This was the first time I met someone who works at a garage and doesn't know how to check windshield wiper fluid and can't use a hand brake. Awesome Mechanic! One of the worse things about moving to a new town is finding a mechanic. I drive a 10 year old car and unfortunately car repairs are part of my life (but it beats a car payment!). I was on a road trip and started to smell gas, after getting home to Westborough I looked through car mechanics on Yelp; Erickson's looked good so I gave them a try. The service in the office was professional, and the mechanic was great! They found the problem with a little diagnosis and had it fixed quickly and under budget. Overall horrible experience. Will be filing a complaint with the BBB. Initially staff was very nice and communicative. Had them try to fix an oil leak and asked them to see if there was anything they could do to diagnose the problem with a backup camera. Which they couldn't because it was an European car. Had them fix a part of an oil leak but could not confirm exactly where it was coming from. They fixed a part where they suspected it was coming from but couldn't confirm and charged 40% over in price than what the price would be from a dealership. Picked up the car and within 24 hours the entire car has now stopped working completely. Gave them a call and staff was unwilling to look at the car and said there is nothing they can do because it was a European car. My father looked at car and saw that they didn't even wipe off oil or clean the bottom of the car to determine where the leak was coming from. overcharged on service and overcharged on parts. $540 for what should of been simple fix has now turned into my car cannot drive at all. Staff especially the front desk was extremely rude and said that its not their responsibility to clean any parts or do anything further. Would not recommend this garage to anyone. Overpriced drastically compared to certified dealership service, and staff is rude and disrespectful and did not do service that is acceptable. read more

Called up this shop after researching local technicians in the area and inquired about whether or not they would be able to assemble front struts for my vehicle if I provided the parts individually as opposed to buying already-built struts. I was told this would not be an issue and they'd happily do it for $50. I eagerly dropped the parts off on my lunch break due to working in the same area, and they called to tell me the struts had been completed less than an hour later. When I showed up at the end of the day to retrieve the struts, I was charged $50 PER strut, which was conveniently left out of the initial discussion of the service. I mentioned this during the transaction process and it was shrugged off. I wasn't terribly bothered, but it was worth noting the lapse in attention to customer service/detail. After installing the struts and driving my vehicle for about 2 weeks, I noticed an incredibly loud/obnoxious noise coming from the front of my car. After a few days of troubleshooting and forum searching, I determined the strut mounts were bad and needed to be replaced. After calling this shop to inform them, I discovered that strut mounts can be defective from the factory and even the technician would never know until the car was driven for some time. No problem. I asked the receptionist (after the phone was given back to her from the technician) if I could drop my car off on a Saturday (since they are open on Saturdays) and was laughed at and told that the only work that is done on the weekends are oil changes and state inspections. Seemed a bit odd but fine. Ended up taking my vehicle to a shop that I knew and trusted and found out, within seconds of disassembling the strut assembly, that the mounts had been put on upside down! Literally backwards! There is a bearing in the strut mount that needs to spin freely which allows the strut/coil to turn seamlessly when the wheels are turned. Putting the mount on upside down was virtually impossible to recreate without bashing the bearing onto the mount and bolting it into place. I was shocked a technician that claims to have decades of experience could blatantly assemble struts with this much disregard for something so basic. I will not be going back for any services and based on the other negative comments on this page, I'm not the first to have an outlandishly poor experience. read more

I went to get my brakes fixed at this place and met the owner Jack. He was very nice and courteous and honest. I took my car to 2 different places (read my revies) and replaced the front and back brakes. Front brakes needed the rotors changed with the first repair billed me but didn't change the rotors! The second repair shop messed up my back brakes and caused damage on the caliber. My dealer tried to rip me off with $1000 repairs and I brought my car to Erickson and saved about $400. So for my car is running good and I think Erickson did a honest job at a reasonable price. read more

Prior to going to this place I had a terrible experience elsewhere, just for an inspection. I had many co-workers tell me to go here, family run, customer oriented. So I decided to go. The vibe in this place is remarkably welcoming. Even though I was just there for an inspection, it didn't feel like your typical mechanics auto repair place, just very friendly service. I even had a screw broken on my license plate and the guy came out to show me and told me my options, he put new screws in for me and was very friendly and professional about it. It seemed to be a great place for an inspection, a repair, or any questions you may have. What great service! My son is working this summer in Maine and was home just for the weekend for his brother's graduation. His car was making a lot of noise and needed work. When Erickson's looked they discovered it was the flex pipe but the guy who welds doesn't work Saturday's. Well, they called him and he came in and fixed my son's car! Now that's great service. Went in to get my brakes done - no complaints about the brake job. They called while they had the car and asked if I wanted to get my oil changed while the car was there - great, two birds, one stone. The only complaint I have (and it did tick me off, hence 2 stars instead of 4) is charging me $2.50 for Windshield Washer fluid. I mean really? $2.50 for something I didnt ask for? The total bill was over $350 - but I guess they really needed that $2.50. Granted its not a lot of money, but its the kind of nickel and dimeing that will keep customers from coming back. I'll pass on going here next time, especially for an oil change. read more

They might do good work, but I've never had them work on my car. Some years ago I went there for a couple estimates, for two different things. They would not provide a free estimate, not even of the gross ballpark conditional sort, like "how much for new rotors and pads". And I was also unable to talk with a technician to let me assess their experience and/or communication skills. For me, good service requires some willingness to allow some communication directly with the mechanics doing the work. They didn't pass that test. read more

Have been going to Ericksons for at least a few years, everything has always been fine. I recently got an older car from a relative and asked them to check it out before I put $ into it. When I asked if they could do that, the man on the phone said "that car was a piece of crap when it was new!".Charming. I needed an inspection sticker and noticed the horn wasn't working. I got one on Amazon and was going to ask a Friend to put it in, but never got the chance so asked them to fix it. Despite talking to the shop three times and two different people, no one bothered to mention that it was a different rate if you use your own parts....$130 an hour! Oh, and I asked them to put on the front license plate- they charged me an additional $5 for labor plus $2 for TWO SCREWS!! They honestly couldn't have fit that thirty seconds worth of work into that extremely expensive hour? Total cost for an inspection sticker, putting on a license plate and installing a horn that was already purchased...almost $200! read more

I want to share my experience. The reviews here are very mixed and that is for a real reason in my opinion. I have been a long time supporter of Erikson's (well over ten years), but in the past few years the service has been spotty. I know they work hard and often do "get it right." Their prices are average, but not great. I needed my taillights fixed due to corrosion. I dropped off my vehicle and was pleasantly surprised that it was done in less than an hour. The bill however was well over $200.00. I was shocked and noticed I was charged for over two hours labor. When I questioned it I was told the wiring was totally corroded and a lot of work was needed to repair it. I should have trusted my gut which told me that the charges were excessive, but honestly I told myself they have done good work for me in the past and let it slide. I recently installed a hitch with a plug and play wiring harness. And? Yes the corroded connecters were still there and all that was done was the mechanic cut a few of the worst corroded wires and spliced them together bypassing the connectors. Is that worth over $200.00? NO it is NOT. So yes the lights work, but now I have no way of using the new wiring harness without redoing the job---the right way. In my opinion this is not good work, nor is the price fair. Furthermore, I was led to believe that the problematic corroded connecters were replaced. I do not know why this was done, reading reviews and answers from the shop I get the impression that there is a fair amount of reactivity and not taking responsibility. Even if the customer is "wrong" being, misleading, dishonest, and overcharging eventually catch up to you. Yelp did help me find a great mechanic whose is honest, very fair, and will take responsibility for his work. I was taught your name and work speak for itself. Maybe you can splice a few wires together and hand someone a bill for over $200, but for most people I think that smacks of dishonestly. I regret the well over $10,000.00 I have handed Erikson's over the past 15 years. If you cant get it right with your customers, where do you go then? During an inspection for my Volvo, I was told it would not pass inspection. The mechanic - Jim, told me I would need a ball joint replaced and he would get me a quote. In the meantime, I looked up prices on the internet, both for that part, and the entire Lower Control arm, which it is a part of, $50 and $127 respectively. Then EA calls me back with their price. $318. I dont say anything at this point. Instead I hit the volvo forums on the internet and post about the prices given to see what the DIY guys say. When I get to EA, Jim tells me the part price, and I quote him what I saw. - 50 bucks for a ball joint. He says, no no, you need the whole LCA. Thats why it so much more (again, I already know that part (aftermarket) is in the $150 range. I don' say anything more at this point, since I am waiting to see what the Volvo forum comes up with. But something smells fishsy Well, later in the day, the DIY Volvo forum responds, and I am told that "parts are not parts" but a Volvo certified LCA should be 150. The dealer would charge the 318 price. OK, so I know the Volvo certified part is 150, so is the EA price a markup? I call back and ask them not to order the part, but ask where they get their parts from. Dennis is the mechanic this time. He says "Volvo". So, my questions are 1.) Really? or are they marking up the after market parts. 2) If they are Volvo parts, why bother going to an Indy garage? 3) Why Volvo parts? All of this is a little fishy to me. Most of my experiences with EA have been good. There was one occasion I had a sensor replaced - that I wonder if it could have been reset by a Auto Diag device, but this smells a little odd too. I wish I had all the info before hand and had asked the questions on the spot too. What would happen if I asked them to toe the line and produce receipts and packaging for the parts they used? I wonder. Instead, I will take my car elsewhere, and see if they see the same issues during inspection at all. If they do, what will they quote me for parts? More to come. ------------- The finale: So the total cost for the repair at the other mechanic -- a great guy named mark at Frazee auto repair in Wellesley, MA, was $268. Just like he said. When I picked up the car we chatted a little bit about Volvo's and the serpentine belt. Great dude. Great Service. So the moral of the story is, Ericson's was being honest about the work that needed to be done. But the price of the part was way off the mark. I very much doubt that the actual parts would have been ordered from Volvo. I personally think that was a CYA from Ericksons because they knew I was researching prices. In fact, I remember Jim saying to the girl at the front desk that they ordered from NAPA. I still wonder about that sensor though, and whether it needed to be replaced. So I am thinking about knocking this down a star. I have heard worse about mechanics, and a little more balls on my part or common sense could have helped, -- I simply could have ordered the part myself and had Erickson's install it. But hey, that's what I pay a mechanic for. I don't begrudge them making money, but I am opposed to a 100 percent mark up. read more

I went there for a while. Their work is good but they find things to fix, especially when you go in for a sticker (happened twice with me, the second time (and last time) I went somewhere else). The last time I went there they did work that I didn't ask for but they claimed that I did, and suggested that I needed even more work done before I could get my sticker. I paid up, cause it wasn't worth the hassle (or expense) of getting a lawyer. I went somewhere else and the extra work that they suggested magically disappeared. Looking at the other reviews, my experience is more in line with Jay. J.'s. They seem to be pretty hit or miss. Bottom line, I wouldn't go there for a sticker (maybe if you know in advance exactly what the issue is, and have a sense of what work needs to be done and how much it costs, you would be on solid ground.) read more

I WILL NEVER GO HERE AGAIN! I should have looked on Yelp first and read the other review.... talk about nickel and diming! I had an oil change done for their $25 special. They told me that I have a special oil filter that will be an upcharge from the normal allowance given with the oil change special. That's not a problem; however, I have had over 20 oil changes done on this car and every other service place looked up the car info in the book and was surprised to find that the oil filter on my car is the most common and basic one available! When I brought this to their attention, they shrugged their shoulders and insisted that I owe them for an upgraded oil filter, for which they charged me an extra $12! Pretty lame if you ask me! I am afraid that they may overcharge and lie to all of their customers regarding parts and labor costs. It's unfortunate that Erickson's reinforces the stereotype of old car service places lying, cheating, and ripping off their customers! read more

while sitting in the waiting area, I watched a woman pull into Erickson's parking lot from Main St, and a mechanic backing up a car he had just serviced across the front of their lot, backing into the woman pulling into the lot. Accidents happen. What happened next shocked me. The mechanics gets out of the car, slams the door, screams some profanities at the woman, does not ask if she is ok, and storms into the shop. The woman is left outside, wondering what the heck happened. Mechanic goes back outside, yells at the woman again, "I wish you waited to pull in and had just let me finish backing up". Again, no remorse or concern whether she is ok or not. Not sure if Mr Erickson was there or not, I did not see anyone else go out to check on the woman or inquire if she was ok. Based on this treatment of a potential customer, this was the last time I have used the services of Erickson's. read more
