Long story as short as possible. My car was leaking coolant. Brought it on a Sunday, they called Monday to say they'll look at it shortly and call me back. They called on Tuesday and said it'll either be X work for $900 or X + Y work for 1600. I said I'll do the $900 work, denying the extra work. They are not open during posted scheduled times, they close whenever, and didn't get a call til Friday at 445 of them saying if I'm not there in 15 minutes they're closed for the weekend and I can't get my car til Monday. They said they called me earlier in the day (they did not). Then got there and saw my bill for $1700 and I was shocked to it not being either amount mentioned prior. Questioned why so much when we agreed on $900 and I was never contacted otherwise. They said it was work that HAD to be done but I was unaware of any change. Would not recommend to anyone. read more

Wheel bearing replacement estimate! They are sloppy. I drove to their shop to get a price quote. They kept making excuses. Tomorrow tomorrow but tomorrow never came. Then 4 weeks later, owner sends that their shop rate is $120/h when do I want to schedule. How about the quote. I texted "how much for part & how many hours for labor. I realized that I was in the waiting room for 45 min in an establishment where nobody was wearing a mask and nobody entering was asked to wear a mask. I had a very good experience today. I left there feeling as though I didn't get the shaft. I wanted to try a local business and stop supporting larger corporations. Plus places like Midas tend to tell you that you need 5 million things done to your vehicle when you really don't. I went in for an oil change but didn't tell the gentlemen at Greasy's that Midas had "strongly recommended" that I get a slew of things repaired on my vehicle because I wanted to find out if they would come back with the same findings. So guys at Greasy's don't be upset with me. It wasn't a test for you, but Midas. I just had a really uneasy feeling from the folks at Midas. Guess what? There was only one thing that I actual needed, and it wasn't even on the long list I got from Midas. Thank you for being an honest company. If I could give zero stars I would. I have never dealt with such a hard headed garage in all my life. I brought my car there that barely ran and definitely couldn't drive. I called them and told them I'm not sure what's wrong but I need a diagnostic done because there could be more than one problem. They charged me for the diagnostic and told me what the issues they assumed to be the problem and I said as long as my car runs and runs correctly I don't care just get it fixed. And so they did and I made sure we were on the same page about it running properly with no issues and they told me everything should run great. Well 900$ later I go to pick it up and not even a hour later my car is stalling out. So I call them back and they tell me I need to drive the car 100 miles to "get the car used to the new parts" never have I heard that before but I didn't want issues so I gave it a couple days and 4 days later it was still giving me the same issues. So I call them and tell them it's their responsibility to fix this because as far as I was concerned everything was suppose to run not stall out everytime I hit a red light. Mind u stalling out was something I told them was happening and needed to be fixed so they knew what they were looking for. They then began to tell me that they fixed what they should have and if I want anything else done I need to pay more. After days of arguing with them telling them how unprofessional this is and how they knew this was one of the issues but now that it's not working the only issue was a "none start car" but when I brought it in it was starting just didn't sound good, so that makes no sense. I kept calling and they started not even returning my phone calls telling me I'm "toxic and fired" like what does that even mean??!?!??! Still to this day 3 months later my car is still stalling. If ANYONE is considering this garage I HIGHLY suggest u go somewhere else. Horrible horrible horrible! Waste of my money and time. Shitty place and even shittier .... Truth be told, I towed my car in bc it was running so horribly I couldn't drive it.. it started all along it was just never able to drive.. first of all. I can show all paperwork to prove u gave me nothing for free, I paid for all work that was done. I have phone records to prove I never called u guys "drunk". U can choose to work w whoever u want this is true... I would just think u wouldn't send such shitty work out w ur business' name on it. My everyday for over a decade mechanic finally retired :( So I needed a new mechanic to maintain my vehicles. They are in the neighborhood and had perfect yelp reviews, so I gave them a call. I called them up for an appointment last November, and got a bunch of attitude - like how dare I call them??? Then explained how super busy they are and they can give me an appointment but it may not work out (is that really an appointment?) Knowing they'd soon be working on my car, I was polite as could be. But they didn't really care to learn what the problem with my car was. And they were just plain rude, to someone they never met and gave them zero attitude (just wanted an apt so they could fix my car.) He kept going out of his way to say how extraordinarily busy they are and how this 'appointment' was a favor to me. Anyways - I bailed at this point. If they're so crazy busy - I don't want my car sitting there for weeks, nor do I want them doing a poor job because they are rushing through the repair. Maybe it's because I wanted my car fixed and not drop thousands turning it into some souped up midlife crisis mobile. Judging from the reviews I guess these people are awesome for souping up a mini cooper. But if you're calling to just get standard car repair - you may want to consider elsewhere. read more

How have I not Yelped this place? I've blogged about it and recommended it to more people than I can count yet I didn't yelp it?? Must be getting old. After finding a doctor you can trust and rely on the next most important step is finding a mechanic who is GOOD, REASONABLY PRICED, RELIABLE and HONEST. Do you have any idea how HARD that is to find? Let me put it this way; My son is a mechanic and I bring my car here. These guys are that good. In my twenty years driving I've had 10 cars and probably experienced 30 mechanics and John and Pete are hands down the best one's out there. Hands down the best mechanic experience I've had anywhere. They are fast, reliable, will work with you to get your car back up and running and go the extra mile. If they added a full complimentary sandwich bar and massage service (on second thought I don't want John rubbing my back anyway) this place could not get any better. I'd give it 10 stars if I could. I've had regular maintenance performed, upgraded performance parts, and break-fix mechanical work done. I can only think of positive things to say about Greasy's Garage, and that should be telling considering the risky world of auto mechanic shops. Service is excellent. The staff at Greasy's answers email inquiries very quickly, even outside of business hours. They provide an estimated completion time on any work done, and they have always finished well within their estimate. They reply to voice mails promptly and prepared to answer all questions. The mechanics explain what went wrong with your car and how they are going to fix it. Also, the crew at Greasy's understands performance upgrades and will work with you to ensure you're doing it right. Prices are extremely competitive. I have gone to chain auto stores and gotten quotes on standard services for my car along with major break-fix work. Greasy's has consistently beaten these prices. Further, Greasy's has been able to get any part needed in very short notice. This can sometimes be a problem with smaller shops. The crew at Greasy's knows and loves cars. Greasy's just saved me from ridiculous bills and potential engine damages to my '02 R50. This was worth the hour drive each way and we will be coming here with our mini from now on. Wonderful service. Not at all shocked to see only five star reviews here. The only less than five star review is from a person who didn't even use their services. Go figure... Anyway, on to our experience: They are a modest little shop that does get busy (IMO that's a good thing). When we pulled up we saw five or six minis in their lot, so we knew we were at the right place! (it can be kind of easy to miss though, make a left just before the center divider... don't miss it!) We ended up having to leave the car overnight (well, a few nights because of our schedule) since we live in Lawrence, so a bit of a drive, especially with traffic. We thought our issue was with the alternator. Turned out the be a bad power steering pump, which was drawing power even when the car wasn't on, thus killing the battery. They had never seen this before and stated they spent quite a bit of time diagnosing the issue. Lucky for us this was under warranty by mini still! We were also getting an oil pressure light, which turned out to be due to Pep Boys (of Salem NH) throwing out some necessary parts when changing the oil for us. Greasy's gave us detailed records of what was missing and what they had to do. Unfortunately it was a $250 part (stock Mini part, and yes, Mini themselves charge that, I checked). Fortunately the records they provided got Pep Boys to pay for the part due to their own negligence. When we took the car into Mini (of Peabody) for the power steering pump, they stated our coolant wasn't "mini standard" and that there was an oil leak. I immediately called Greasy's and was explained that they did top off the coolant, he had been using it for over a decade, and never issues. There was a SMALL oil leak, but nothing to be worried about currently. And mini wanted another $500 to "fix" these "issues". Bottom line is, I am going to make it a point to come here from now on. In fact, they are going to be the only ones I trust to change my oil (because apparently that is easy to screw up on our model mini). Their oil changes are $20 more than the chain shops around, but you know what? They won't be breaking my car in the process. Yes, they are an hour away. Yes, they do get busy. Frankly, I don't care. Over here I know the car is in good hands and I don't have to worry about them botching the job. They know what they are doing and they aren't going to tack on unnecessary work/costs. One last little tip for those who are sticker nuts, they have some pretty sweet black or white decals (free) that are going to be going on the back of our R50. All you have to do is ask! Greasys... not sure where to begin. They have been servicing my 330 for a number of years now and have done most of the standard stuff a bmw 3 series requires... I have no complaints and in fact I am extremelt fond of Pete, John and there entire crew. They now do all the work on wife's SUV and it turns out they also do all the work on some close friends vehichles... and for good reason... they are fair, real fair, fast, professional and maybe most importantly always take the time to make sure you know what the problem is, provide you with options and then always look for other existing issues and provide realistic feedback about what can be expected. I called and made an appointment showed up to have my oil change and was told that the gentleman on duty was too busy ...to come back the next day between 10 and 11 showed up the next day at 10 willing to wait and was told flat out that they could not get to me that Day. just had 2 stops here in the past month or so and seriously the best garage ive been to. Pete and John are pretty awesome guys who are fair and honest. theres a certain associations you have with mechanics but i feel like with Pete hes just there to make people happy instead of running a business. i did a full maint overhaul on my car as it was not serviced since the day i got it. did some complicated work with egr and heatshield that was acting up. and they threw in a install of my cold air intake on the house since i had a lot of work done. quality of the work is great. prices are extremely fair. these guys also go out of the way to accommodate your schedule. hands down only garage ill go to in MA.....also side note. I'm a very big fan of these guys and I cannot recommend them more highly. Prior to finding Greasy's Garage my typical experience with mechanics was a mix of bad phone etiquette, surly interactions, a general "I don't need you, you need me" kind of attitude, and a sense that maybe I was being taken for a ride financially. Enter Greasy's Garage (in particular Pete and Thom): NICE. KNOWLEDGABLE. SKILLED. HONEST. FAIR PRICING. They won't recommend work that you don't need. They won't gouge you on price. Things get done in a timely manner. They'll educate you, if you're interested. And they honor their service warranty if anything goes wrong. Let's be honest, you go to a mechanic for a specific service, fixing your car. And these guys do that VERY well and it's the main reason you should go to them. But on top of that they also offer a garage environment like I've never experienced before. I'm invited to look at the issue they found? I'm invited to eat lunch with them? I'm not treated like a dummy? I'm offered their personal car if I want to run an errand while I wait? I don't have any problem with the work they did on my car. What I have the problem with is the attitude. My car got into a little incident and a friend of mine who works with cars introduced me to this place, saying they are really good and very friendly. This is my first year driving, I really don't have much experience and I'm pretty lost when I wandered in. The staff was friendly but I had a big problem when they keep referring to me as having a language barrier. Now that I do have English as my second language but I would consider myself having no problem communicating as that's the majority of my job. I talk to people with varying levels of English fluency every day and unless they really don't speak English at all they can communicate with me just fine. I have an accent, sure, but often people don't even realize that I am ESL. In short, my English is fine. However, the staff certainly don't think so. When I approached them asking what do I need to do concerning my car and my insurance they just gave me the feeling that I am stupid for not knowing the exact procedure. I felt frustrated. If I knew what to do then surely I will just do it instead consulting you. They told me there are certain things I need but not telling me how to get them when I asked. Eventually, the staff just decided to call my friend and ask him to explain to me in my language, loudly declaring that I have a language barrier, therefore, he cannot communicate with me. I felt humiliated. When I was talking to him there is no indication that he couldn't understand my English. I spoke a bit soft sometimes but that has nothing to do with language. And there he is throwing shade at me constantly by saying we have a language several times over the phone. When my friend translated his words I had to tell him I already know all of those from the conversation, it's just that the staff apparently believe in my English skill despite I told him I can understand them just fine I just need clearer answers. In the end, my friend had to research on the problem and give me answers himself with no help from the staff. I really doubt if someone without an accent walked into the store will be treated the same. They see a young female with an accent and just instantly decided if there is any confusion it must be because of the language barrier. If there is any barrier here it is the barrier of ignorance. New in town. My Toyota was driving a little loose and there was a vibration. Took my truck to Herb Chambers Toyota because I was not familiar with any mechanics in the area... Their estimate was $3,400 dollars. I almost fainted. I said ok, button her up & let me get a 2nd opinion. Took my truck to Greasy's based off of a recommendation from a friend. Their estimate was $1,400. That is quite a difference. I'm glad I got that 2nd opinion.... My truck is driving great and I did not empty out my bank account in the process... OK, I don't write a lot of reviews, but this one has to be done. First, I have been using Greasy's for about 3 years to service both a MINI and a Subaru and have nothing but great things to say about the owner and staff. The work they perform is second to none, it is also quick and complete. They will tell you what they recommend that you change immediately and what can wait as they inspect everything as they work. They will never try to pressure sell you on something that you don't really need which is the best part of it all. Bottom line is that you have a mechanic that is honest with you about what has to be done to your car. My story is simple. I drove 450 miles one-way from Laurel Maryland to come back up to visit Greasy's to get a clutch replaced because I trust him to get it done right. This job is generally an 11 hour job which was completed by Pete and his team in 4 hours! They also serviced several other items to ensure that they were wearing properly but at 89000 miles, I knew it needed to be done. The car drives like a dream now thanks to Pete and his team. This brings me to the post by Joe H. I'm not certain what he said or did, but I do know that Greasy's is really busy. This is a guy that services many of the MINIs for local clubs in the area and if you call trying to get your car in that day or week, he may not have a slot for you. That being said, Pete does not like to see anyone with a failing vehicle and will try to squeeze it in if he can. I have never seen him turn a customer away and if he told you he would try, he was doing you a favor and wanting to work with you. I find it a little sad, that you felt posting a poor review on a company that you never used just because you let your personality get in the way was even necessary. That being said Joe, please give them a chance. I think you will find that he is probably the best mechanic you will find up here. He recently opened this shop right off the Mass Pike in Worcester. I have a mini cooper and in search for a great mini mechanic I went to Petes prior place of employment. Was always more then happy with the service and the outstanding job pete did. Never trying to sell me something I didnt need. He would always fix minor things that could be easily take care of with our charge. Sold advice on what to do next, especially on modifications to the car and in general a really nice guy. So as soon as he opened up his own ship the right thing to do was move on over to petes new place. I will tell you the serice from then to now just gets better. My car is always fixed with in a day or two of droping it off. I dont have to wait a week for an appointment. I call and drop the car off that day. I even have one of those pain in the ass after market extended warranty insurance policies that most people dont want to deal with like "MINI OF PEABODY" just to name one!. They really try to help me get the best deal I can and always give my car a cleaning before I pick it up. so all in all, excellent prices, awesome people and no funny business. I had to have my transmission replaced in my 2005 Mini Cooper convertible. Pete and Thom could not have been nicer to work with. They took the time to show us what caused the failure on our old transmission and took care of the control arm bushings by replacing them when the car was apart.
