Everyone makes mistakes. It's how you react to them that matters. I took my car in to Jarmo today for new breaks. I had told them the day before that I would be in a hurry and they said it would take a few hours. I was waiting across the street in McDonalds and I went back to check a few hours later. They had not noted the rush job and hadn't started my car yet. I explained that I needed the car to pick up my daughter in a few hours. They were very apologetic and, more importantly, they put 3 people on the job to get it done in 1/3 the normal time. On top of that, their estimate of the cost of the parts was too high. Some mechanics might look at that as a nice extra profit. But not only did they quote me a lower price than everyone except Jiffy Lube, with the savings from the part being a little cheaper than expected, they actually beat Jiffy Lube's price. I had a mechanic I used for several years that recently closed. Now I think I've found my new regular mechanic. I can't comment on the quality of the work specifically. But the car seems to be working, so no complaints. read more

Here's what happens when you DON'T go to Jarmo's: A year ago, my car wouldn't start while I was visiting family out-of-town. I had no choice but to take it to a place nearby. Came way with a BIG bill for replacing my alternator, along with a lot of other things they said I needed. Flash forward to now: car's making a terrible noise. Jarmo's told me I needed to replace the alternator - which I'd replaced just a year ago. The first place had installed a subpar product, for which I was charged over $1000 (P&L). Jarmo's got me out the door for $670. They also took the time to look up the failed alternator and discovered it's under warranty, so I will be circling back to the first place (though not optimistic they will do anything for me). If my car breaks down again while I'm far away, I'm going to pay to have it towed to Jarmo's......I think I will still come out ahead. read more

They lied to me, outright. After years of recommending people, and my own neighbors, friends and family telling me to go there. Flat out lied and frankly ripped me off. I called about a full front end brake job - something I can easily do myself, but with a rust-welded-on seized caliper and no lift at home, would not be fun laying on the ground in the dead of summer. When I called, I gave a run down of what was needed. I asked about coated rotors - what were the shops opinions on them, would they install them? I'd prefer them because of New England rust and my very open-profile rims, but being newer to the market I hadn't had personal experience with them other than a friends recommendation. The person quoting me told me that they LOVE coated rotors, my quote DEFINITELY includes coated rotors - in fact, he said, they had a SPECIAL DEAL direct from the manufacturer for a full brake job including coated rotors. He quoted me a price that was not too much more than if I was to buy the parts and do it myself. When I dropped the truck off, I filled out a form - included in the description of services to be performed? COATED ROTORS. When I picked up my vehicle I didn't notice anything strange... some coated rotors are gray or black around the edge, others are silvery like mine were, so I assumed I got what I paid for. When I got home, I looked at the details of my bill, and - surprise! While no models or makes were listed, the parts numbers were immediately recognizable. The calipers were the CHEAPEST remanufactured models from the local auto parts store house brand. The rotors were the CHEAPEST non-coated option from the same store. The pads, inexplicably were a better quality from that store brand. How do I know? I managed stores from the same chain for years! The next morning, I stepped outside to find one of the calipers, just due to dew over night, was covered in surface rust - because it was cheap, and poorly painted (special ceramic paint at the factory) the finish didn't even last a day in the elements. The calipers were also beginning to rust on the edges. I went and bought some coated rotors to install myself, and when I tried to remove the wheels... surprise! They were torqued on so tight that I couldn't move them with a wrench. Or a breaker bar. Or a torque gun. I finally got them to crack using an eight foot long piece of black iron pipe on a breaker, by hitting the end with a sledge hammer! I got them off to find the tone rings for my rims were missing - what the hell? Note to Harry Homeowner - start your lugs with a torque gun, finish them with a wrench (no, ASE says it but you don't need a torque wrench or specific specs). Overtorqued wheel lugs can warp your rotors - these did - and can damage your studs - thankfully these didn't. I called and was told they would call me back. This was the peak of COVID scares, so there was no "stopping by to talk". I never got a call back, and didn't pursue it because... guess what. It was not a mistake - it was a flat out lie. This wasn't "whoops we ordered the wrong part" it was a tall tale about manufacturers that don't exist. I have told and will continue to tell my neighbors (who've brought all 3 of their cars to Jarmo's for 30 years that I know of) and anyone who asks... go to someone else. read more

This is a review based on several interactions with the business. After taking cars to my local mechanic in Waltham for years, I had to find somewhere closer to me after I moved. I went to the same place for over 15 years so I was hesitant to go anywhere else. I had the opportunity to talk to the owner, Bill, and got the impression he's honest and trustworthy. He told me his father started the business and his guys have been working there for years. You can see the shop from the desk and everything was neat and organized. As a fellow tradesman, this instantly put me at ease because for me, it's a sign of pride in your work. I had the brakes replaced on my truck and shortly after one of them started making noise. I called to tell him and he got me back in right away; it turned out to be a faulty part. I brought my old truck there a few times and never had a problem. I have a new truck now (under factory warranty) and plan to take it there for maintenance and anything not related to the warranty. Great shop! read more

Went in to get an estimate on an engine noise - turns out it was my turbo. The technician asked me to give him my contact information and he'd call me back. Stated he needed to "research" the turbo for my car - why.... I don't know. If it needs to be replaced, replace it. Said he would call, never called. I called and I asked for a follow up and was told they were busy and they'd call. Phone never rang on my end.... so I went somewhere else who did it for a lot cheaper and got the job done. Incredible! I had a problem with a 2000 car which was difficult to repair. The repair also would have been very costly with dealer parts. The team of Jarmo's found a replacement part that would work on Ebay and stuck with fixing this despite a very kludgy set up in the design of the car when it would have been so much easier to either just say I needed the expensive original part or that it was too difficult to repair. I brought my car in to fix a loud noise my brakes were making plus an oil change. I pick my car up. The exact same noise. $251.00 later for a very expensive oil change. They tell me it's because the guy who did my brakes didn't use Toyota parts. Said the sound was normal. If that's the case why was I charged $251.00? Again, very expensive oil change. Haven't lived in Maynard that long and the way they welcome me to the neighbor is with their ignorance and I still got the work done a few months later what they fixed started acting up and they rudely said to bring it in once I did they said that wasn't the problem it was something else but other opinions say it was what they fixed. It's a car place but there still should be manners and respect but what do you expect from staff when the owner Chris is the rudest of them all. This is my personal experience to each his own. I never post comments for a business good or bad but this place needs to learn respect. I gave them two chances. We recently moved to the area and I had them change my tires. I was charged $125 to change them (not new ones, just putting on my snow tires) when my prior garage charged me $75. I decided to give them a second try when my check engine light came on. This time they kept my car for two days, they charged me for the work and the part which is what I needed. They also charged me for two things I hadn't asked for - an oil change and to top off my windshield wiper fluid. They actually charged me to top off my fluid, which I didn't ask for since I have a jug at home at all times. I also spoke to the garage twice and neither the oil change or the fluid were mentioned either time. I will never go back. read more

I've been taking my cars to Jarmo's for about 8 years and I just can't say enough good things about the place. The shop is so clean you can eat off of the floor. The mechanics are smart and polite and they do great work! Bill runs the place (his Dad ran it before him) and he's a very nice guy. They're not "cheap," but their prices are very fair and certainly less than you'd pay at a dealership. I can only think of one or two times in 8 years when I experienced a problem with some work they did, but on those VERY rare occasions, they always made it right. FIVE STARS!! read more

Went here a few months ago - the crew was friendly. Big brake job, cost almost $1000 and took an hour longer than promised, but that happens. Here's the thing - they did not tighten the lugnuts on wheels before giving me back the car!!! I had to discover that along 495 a couple days later, after pulling over I could remove the bolts with my fingers. fortunately could tighten with emergency kit handwrench and got to garage at the next exit, but these guys were very close to a very substantial negligence lawsuit. read more

My emergency brake locked up in Maynard at 4:45pm on a Friday and I live 45 minutes away. I pulled up to their shop a few minutes later to see if they'd be able to unlock it so I could at least get home. The mechanic told me to come right in. I pulled in and they fixed my brake in about 15 minutes, right up until 5pm. I asked how much it would be and they said free. I gave him a $20 tip. Great people and very generous with their time. Great mechanics. Fixed a problem that another shop in town botched. Did some heavy repair work like brakes and suspension. My car is not new and so far everything is holding up great. These guys really do use high quality parts, not the cheaper alternatives and perhaps in some jobs this really does make a difference (especially in suspension work I suppose for parts that see a lot of wear and tear). Their pricing reflects the quality of their work and price and is a bit higher than some other shops, but so far in my experience, it is totally worth it to pay extra and have it done right the first time. read more

I can't begin to say enough positive things about these folks......I just had another extremely positive experience this morning. I'd had my car serviced there Friday which included rotating my tires.....everything was great as usual but my tire pressure light came on during Saturday and there was a bumping from the right front that morphed into a shimmy at higher speeds.....brought it in this morning for follow up, they found the dent in the wheel rim that didn't show up when it was in the back - they re-rotated my tires and re-balanced, explained everything and refused to charge me anything, even for labor, which I offered.......and the dent was not their fault in the least, caused by the bigger and better pot-holes created this lovely Winter.......car is driving stellar at this point. They're honest, scrupulous, take pride in their work and truly respect their customers. Their prices are very reasonable, they do a terrific job, they're very communicative and they are honest and honorable. You can't' go wrong with these guys, best mechanics I've ever dealt with (and I'm not young). read more
