We are very lucky to have this local business. They did a great job inspecting all three of our cars after we moved from California and needed to urgently get them registered with the RMV. Additionally they saved our bacon after a dealership made a faulty repair on our Subaru and the car lost all its coolant. South Acton Gas fixed it instantly while we waited during a snow storm (while they simultaneously helped two other customers very courteously). They also gave us advice for addressing the poor service from the dealership. For these reasons I always try and give our business when ever we need our tanks filled. read more

AS A FEMALE INSPECTOR I am very offended that you keep addressing me as HE and if anyone was threatened or felt threatened it was me with the way you stormed towards me. Yes I did fail your vehicle for 2 reasons for a plate light and for the Bright Green tape on the rust. When I was inspecting your vehicle you where not on the premises so I could not show you of the issues as I do with all customers. If I recall you went to the hardware store. Just as I finished the inspection you came storming towards the car upset and raised your voce out me for failing the vehicle. Any inspector will tell you if you are not there to give us permission to replace anything on your vehicle then its failure . Also most is not all inspectors will tell you to bond and paint over the rust. Some will tell you to bond, tape and paint over it. ( same color of the vehicle of course) read more

I have come here to have my car inspected for the last four years. I will never make that mistake again. The first time I came there was one car in the inspection bay, so I parked to the side and waited. I was told I needed to park by the "flag" to wait for an inspection. There were four flags around the parking lot so I moved my car to one and waited again. The clerk came out and told me no, the other one, festering vaguely. I moved again to the one I thought he was waving to. Apparently this was incorrect again. At this point the inspector had finished with the car he was working on and came over. He said, "it's ok, some people just don't get it. Just give me your keys sweet heart.". I was fuming and horribly embarrassed, but I figured I would know better for next time now that he pointed to the correct place. The next year, I parked in the designated area and waited patiently again for the car being inspected to be finished. Someone who was unaware of the "flag rule" pulled in front of me but he sent them to the back of the line. He, the inspector, was unfriendly again when I did speak to him but it went off without a hitch this time except for having to wait but I can't blame him for that. However, I went this week, parked in the designated area waiting for the inspector to finish a car. When he finished he walked into the small store to speak to the clerk. A garbage truck pulled in a few minutes later. There was a musical chairs of cars to follow while I watched. Apparently he had to move his personal car in order for the garbage truck to get to the dumpster. I sat there for 20 minutes while this happened. I thought I was being patient and as soon as he was done he would wave me over. Not the case. When he finished a woman pulled in and pulled right up to the inspection bay, walked into the store and he came out and pulled her car in in front of me. It felt like the last three years of them belittling me about their unspoken rules were for nothing. I will never be going back here again for gas or an inspection even if I am on fumes. read more

Beware - Avoid at all cost! Mean and nasty manager. Went to get my car inspected. Had rust on the fender and the inspector told me to put tape on it. I did and then he rejected it claiming he never told me to put tape on it. He got really nasty and threatening. Have been going there for years, but will never give them a cent of my business again. Have had inspections done here over the years -- and went from very friendly (circa 2012) to very bad (circa 2016) to Very Helpful - all dependent on who was running the place. Fortunately the new owner - Johnny (and one of his mechanics, Andrew) are especially friendly, helpful, competent, cheerful, and empathetic. I've had great success recently over the past few months (2021-2022) for dealing with both of two cars - a Mini, and a Prius. When other auto places have been "booked" I've had amazing success for scheduling some servicing, typically within two days. They will try to fit you in where possible --i.e. they will work with you. They do the work properly, and charge with a modest rate (possibly the lowest in the area), and try to address what is needed - and also try to avoid unnecessary expense. For instance, if you have a muffler problem, they will try to attend to what is needed, rather than replace an entire system. Not a place trying to rip anyone off - real people who want to help you- so my experience is to find them honest, capable, and trustworthy. Craig C. read more

So on her way home in the car, my wife called me as the car died. There were battery alarms, air bag alarms and power steering alarms. She was about 100 feet from South Acton Gas. They came out and jumped the car so it could be driven to their garage. It took less than 1 hour for Al (the owner) to diagnose and replace the issue of a broken serpentine belt. He did it in a flash for us, even though we weren't customers. I wish we lived closer, as we sure would be. He told me the estimate and he was over by about $5.. No biggie at all. I called my own mechanic back in Chelmsford and asked how much for the same thing and he was twice the price.. Great service, fast service, great deal.. 5 stars read more

Stay away from getting your car serviced here. I took it in for an oil change. The serviceman made two mistakes and also tried to rip me off by about $600. 1. He didn't put in enough oil - it was down a quart 2. He messed up figuring out the mileage for my next change - only off by about 20,000 miles He also called me to tell me that my brakes are worn down. He said he could take care of that too at a cost of $1,200. I got it done for under $600 at my favorite garage. read more

We got our car inspection done and sticker in the window within 15 minutes of pulling into the lot. $35 for the inspection plus an optional additional $10 to remove a nail they found in the tire (which also took about 2 minutes). Good auto repair. Competent, reliable, speedy, and reasonable prices. Al, the head mechanic and proprietor, will get any needed parts for you, or you can bring your own and just pay for labor. This is a low-key operation, no frills; your name and phone number goes on a scrap of paper, but it works. Find Al in the garage working - maybe a bit scary-looking at first, but friendly and good at heart. I have brought my 3 older cars (7-13 yrs old) here now and am continuing. Tried it out because its close to my house, stayed because I like it. Reliable diagnostics and advice. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS. If I could give 0 stars I would. Pretty sure all of the positive reviews on here are fake, everyone I've talked to that's gotten a sticker here runs into the same miserable kid, probably the worst attitude one could have dealing with customers. He tells me I don't have any washer fluid, I had just filled it up a couple of weeks ago so I know this is complete crap, and says I can't pass without it. In retrospect I should have just left at that point but I wanted to get it done. He does the inspection pockets the $2 for the "fluid" never gave me the rest of the jug or anything, my washer fluid tank doesn't hold a whole jug, and sends me on my way. Worst attitude ever. Pretty sure he just sold me back my own washer fluid basically stealing $ from me. The worst inspection experience ever. read more

Not an honest Inspection Station and I have filed a complaint with the Registry of Motor Vehicles. I just had my car inspected at South Acton Gas. I asked if I could pay in advance and leave it there for an hour because there was a wait. I was told not to pay in advance in case there would be an extra charge, "like it I needed a new headlight," but it would be fine to leave it. We'll sure enough they called me to tell me that one of my headlights was out and it would be $25.00 for a new one. I know for a fact my headlights were both fine when I pulled in there, I had been driving last night and early this morning (when dark) and both lights were on. When I questioned the man on the phone he said, "rejected inspection then." I had time restraints and had little choice but to pay the $25.00. They took my cash and gave me the sticker, but no receipt for the headlight. When I questioned the service man again he showed me a photo of my car with the light out which made me even more suspicious. It seemed like a well orchestrated routine. This auto state inspection garage is horrible after the owner changed. They forced me to replace my window wipers which were completely good. The boss told me that my window wipers will fail the inspection and I questioned where the law says on the book. He was not able to find it of course and he was right away angry to say: "just fail this car, and let it go replace somewhere else and re-inspect". So I wanted to avoid wasting time thus paid $35 for the window shield which are completely crap. Their window wiper only worth $10 but they charged me $35! I will never go back to this site for the annual auto inspection. Never ever!!! read more

i brought my toyota camry here for an inspection as i have in past years and never had a problem. the new guy working here failed my car for an exhaust leak, front wheel bearings, and license plate light. the only thing that was wrong with it was the plate light. the first thing he asked me was if i had a mechanic, and then he told he can do the work cheap. i just had new tires put on it and they would have told me if the wheel bearings were bad, and i know for a fact it doesnt have an exhaust leak. the next day i went to another place and my car passed fine, i did replace the license plate light and thats it. this guy is just using the state inspection to get work. dont go here. read more

Forget the older yelp reviews this place is under new management. Mike is the manager and you can see the pride he takes in the station. The garage is spotless and very orderly. He is very friendly and is willing to help you. I takes my 2 Porsches and wife's Mercedes here for inspections, basic service and tire swaps for summer/winters. For major service we have to go to the dealers because of the dealership warranty. Prices are very reasonable and they are very fair. Sam is the new mechanic at the garage and he is very experienced and also a professional like Mike. I have been treated very well here and the prices have been very fair. However, if you drive a shitbox car and don't take care of it and then complain about your engine making noises after a mechanic fixes your flat tire then stay away. You are not worthy. If you want a place you can trust and know that you are being looked after then So Acton Gas is your place.
