Black Milk Tea and Chai Latte
Diana C.

Drinks - the drink selection was good and I really liked the blended chai boba I got. My partner got the normal milk tea and liked it as well. The boba was well done here - not too squishy or chewy. The chai was really tasty! Service - very speedy and efficient! When I asked for a recommendation of boba or chai they recommended a blended chai with boba. That was perfect! Ambiance - it's kind of a cute and interesting little spot. Not a ton of seating but it has a fire place, books, and a few board games you can take over to the booths and tables.

Food was overall pretty good and the service is pretty fast as well so if you're really hungry, its a good short wait. Their panini comes with a side of your choice of pasta salad, garden salad, or chips which I think is pretty nice. The portion size for the sandwich are pretty big and good for two meals unless you are super hungry. I didn't try the crepes but I was told it was really good especially the savory ones!!

Cold brew, light cream, extra bug??

The Jewel Box is a cozy cafe that has great atmosphere. It feels like you are tucked away in an old library. The service was fine, and my drink was made quickly. Perhaps toooo quickly. I'm subtracting 4 stars from my review for the huge bug I found in my drink. It's unfortunate that I noticed it after nearly guzzling down the entire drink. If adding a little protein into your morning coffee is your kind of thing, I highly recommend this place. Otherwise, stay clear! 1 Star. That is my review.

Ask the Community - Jewel Box Cafe - Seattle

Could this accomodate a party of 11 or is this too cramped?

Probably call ahead and see if management can accomodate. There's a room off to the left or if weather cooperates, you and your group could take all the outdoor seating.

Getting here will be a relief since you don't have to worry about finding parking in their spacious parking lot, which is shared with many other surrounding businesses. Inside is pretty casual with several tables to sit and hang around, along with one long table where you'll be close to some foliage as my friends and I were. Menu has a variety of items including milk tea, coffee, smoothies and fresh milk. Speciality and possibly seasonal drinks were also advertised around the counter and near the front. Staff at the front take your order and ask about ice and sweetness levels if the drink you order calls for that. There is also a ramen bar to the right-hand side of the front counter you can use after purchasing instant ramen at said front counter. I got myself the Mustache milk tea with 50% sweetness and ice, with regular boba. This is very standard for milk tea but it's also the perfect baseline for their other drinks. The tea is floral and the milk added does not detract from the drink. 50% sweetness is perfect for this drink, as any sweeter would have been too much for me. My friends enjoyed their other drinks, though they all got stuff from various parts of the menu. Pretty decent and nice place to chill, hangout and have some good boba! If I'm around the area, I'll come back for their other milk tea flavors!

Small business, locally-owned and operated (second location in Lynnwood!). Now for the tea: very good. We got the pineapple green tea with lychee jelly, and the peach osmanthus oolong, 50 percent sugar in both. Quite sweet at 50 percent - I don't think I would do 100 percent here. We'll be back for a longer hang, and a ramen snack...

SIX STAR REVIEW IF I COULD, THE FOOD HERE IS INCREDIBLE…read more I absolutely adore the available selections on their menu-- all the options are displayed on a screen on the wall, and you get to watch and direct the creation of your meal, Subway-style. Everything I've tried tastes absolutely h e a v e n l y and it is WELL worth your time and money to visit. I've never yet had a bowl whose ingredients flavors and textures didn't scream "fresh, fragrant, a delicious work of culinary art." It's no overstatement to call this place one of my favorite restaurants, if not just straight up my favorite. There's a comfortable range of options in terms of both dishes and ingredients-- not as many as some restaurants, and it shows in the best way; they're extremely g o o d at what they do by specializing. They've just moved to a newer location, and the ambiance is bright, clean, and comfortable. The walls are mostly large windows, with accurate poster depictions of the food they serve wrapping along the lower half of/them-- offering ample street privacy but flooding the room with a welcoming dose of natural light. The people working here might be some of the most friendly people I've ever had the pleasure of meeting in food service-- everyone is very open and welcoming, and in my experience, eager to share a conversation and very, very sweet I feel like I really can't overstate how g o o d the food is without turning the review into something completely unintelligible. It's so, so, so delicious, I will take a bite and straight up swoon-- you know how when you eat a dish for long enough, you eventually get used to and even tired of the taste? THAT DOESN'T HAPPEN HERE. This is the only restaurant I've gone to whose food just doesn't get old-- not to throw the other places I love under the bus, but this is an experience unique to Poke Cafe for me. I don't think there's vocabulary to properly express the experience, unless you ask me to wax poetry about it, but even that can be twisted by perception, so I'll just say, for the love of god if you like Poke (or the other things they offer,) GO TO POKE CAFE. Y'all know that phrase "A Diamond in the Rough?" That's Poke Cafe. There's only one location and it kills me, as a college student leaving Seattle during the school year, every time I remember that. Holiday breaks are not for holidays, they're for coming back to Poke Cafe. Enough said. About The Pictures: - I will admit that the avocado this time was somewhat messily cut/scooped, but it still tasted D I V I N E and the look didn't mess with that so honestly, who cares - Listing the additional toppings: Crab Salad, Masago, Cucumber, Jalapeño Peppers, Cilantro, Ginger, Avocado, Edamame, Furikake, Garlic Chips-- I think that's everything? - All the toppings above are included according to your preference, except the Avocado which is a small additional charge. You can also pick between brown or white rice, salad greens, or half-and-half of the prior options for a base. - The cilantro here might just be some specific variety I've never had,,, but it's especially fragrant - I'll admit I've only had their Poke, but I've picked up a Bah Minh for a friend, and said friend is also enamored with the food

But today, I came in to see that it's under new ownership. "Trezo"? Something like that. Almost overnight the prices have skyrocketed. It's just another mass-produced money-gouging spot now. No authentic family-owned vibe, no warmth, no nothing. To see one of my favourite spots be turned into every other Asian food spot in Seattle absolutely crushed me. Tacky fake plants, neon signs, and terrible music. Stingy portions for the price too. I can't bring myself to come here anymore. Best bet is to just go to some cheap poke place nowadays.

There were even games available to play if you wanted which would make it fun to hang out there. Since I had never been before, I decided to go with a traditional brown sugar milk. The employee at the register was nice and patient and even helped make a recommendation on the fact that I should go with regular boba pearls over the brown sugar ones they had available. The drink itself was not bad! The sweetness and flavor hit the spot. There wasn't as much customization here as there are at other boba places though. Overall a pretty solid spot!

Still, it exhibits a good sweet flowery and somewhat fruity flavor that somewhat covers up the oolong taste. The amount of additives isn't enough to make the drink taste artificial or chemically, instead it's a nice, but heavily, floral. The ice level is good at 50%, which cools down the drink fully and leaves a couple of ice cubes left floating on top. The sweetness is also pretty balanced at half that allows a bit of a bitterness from the tea to make its way through the osmanthus. The brown sugar boba has a good sweetness level on the exterior thanks to the brown sugar soak. They are strangely not circular at all and instead are almost cuboid in shape, with several flat surfaces on each pearl. The exterior of the pearls are smooth and when my teeth bite through, it feels far too rubbery and leathery in texture and I can almost hear a squeaky sound emanating through my mouth. This does mean that the boba has plenty of bounce, but it's not an entirely enjoyable bounce thanks to the firm leathery-like nature. It's more similar in texture to fresh cheese curds than to traditional boba and I feel like the starch mixture is perhaps adulterated with something other than tapioca flour. Milk Tea Rating: 4/5 Boba Rating: 2.5/5 It's very interesting reading the reviews on this place, with some reviewers complaining about the boba being pebble-like and others complaining that the boba is too soft and disintegrates in the mouth. These are very different ends of the boba texture spectrum, so I guess Boba House really has some work to do to get the consistency down. On a positive note, the owner is exceptionally friendly and welcoming, and the boba is on the cheaper end for the city.

My partner still really likes his usual which is the mango pomelo sago. I think it's one of their best sellers and is a pretty safe order if you don't know what to get. We didn't get any this time, but I do like their mochi. If you've acquired the taste, the durian mochi is solid.
