I love Jerusalem Organic Kitchen!! The food is absolutely fantastic, 5 stars all the way! That being said I always always get the Chicken Skewer Platter (with hummus and rice), it's worth it to get both and pay a little extra. You can dine in or take out. I definitely think Jerusalem Kitchen has healthier food choices as well when compared to other restaurants. It feels like a wholesome healthy meal. Don't order the burger or fries. The place has burgers on the sign so I went in assuming they did burgers well. My husband only finished half of his and the fries were fresh but very soggy. The other items that came out of the kitchen looked really good but do not order the burgers. read more

We live right around the corner and unfortunately will not patronize them at all after the customer service and food we received this evening. Went in to order a falafel and Jerusalem falafel. Guy behind the counter was not friendly but not mean, just a little curt and attitude of "get on with it lady"...even though I was the only one there. Had to ask me three times, between the guy actually making my order and the guy taking my order if I wanted hot sauce. Told them three times "yes". I didn't want any dairy on the orders, but I specifically ordered the Jerusalem falafel for the babaganouj. Waited 15 minutes for the order, walked home only to find: no hot sauce on my falafel no babaganouj. Seemed ironic. Called to let them know. Guy said, "okay next time you get extra hot sauce." Told me that the babaganouj has dairy in it, so he left it off. Just wish they would have told me-I was sitting right there! Crappy service. Mediocre food. I laughed when I saw the ridiculous 'reviews' from Paula L  and her husband J.G. complaining about the non-uniform cups used to serve tea at the Jerusalem Kitchen. Most customers, in fact, seem to like this mix-and-match approach - it lends a little variety and splash of color to a meal. In any case, the owners CONSCIOUSLY purchase these during their travels to incorporate into the restaurant . And what on earth is a 'restaurant grade' ( or even restaurant 'style' ) cup? (Bland, boring, and monotonous). These motley mugs appear to be quite solid and fully capable of containing steaming hot liquid. I've been patronizing the Jerusalem Organic Kitchen for decades. It's a little gem for (mostly) Middle Eastern cuisine tucked away on the corner of Solano and the Alameda in Berkeley. Given the humongous portions, the prices are shockingly reasonable. My main staple is the Shawarma Chicken Platter. After all these years, it remains a, healthy, hearty and, not least of all, tasty feast. I can usually stretch one serving into around a meal-and-a-half. And while I'm not one who posts pictures of food on Facebook, I snapped one for my friend Pratibha, who practically salivated at the sight of my Shawarma Platter."That looks SO good!" As for the couple's claim that their lamb burgers (I'm guessing this is what they ordered) were replaced with beef, that's simply not true.The lamb burgers may be MIXED with beef, but the lamb certainly was not REPLACED by beef. If it's uniformity Paula and J.G. seek, might I suggest McDonalds or The Olive Garden. If the Jerusalem Organic Kitchen might not be their cup of tea, most customers seem to have a much better all-around experience..There's probably a reason the bulk of reviews here are in the four and five star range. read more

Oh where do I begin. The service was beyond horrible - no greeting, barely a smile and not even eye contact and on top of all that we just stepped up to the counter. We ordered their special sandwiches since the price was heat at $4.99. I guess the saying is right, you get what you pay for. It shouldn't even be called a sandwich just a regurgitation of all things middle eastern, throw in a little hummus, wannabe hot sauce (taste like ketchup) grilled onions (never heard of that in a sandwich), a salad mixture and then end bits of lamb and the other sandwich had the same condiments and two yes count them only two falafel. Now onto the pita bread they were sitting in, it literally fell apart as soon as I picked it up. So yeah being middle eastern from Chicago one of the best places to eat this was beyond horrible I can't believe they're still in business. read more

I came here last night with my autistic client, I forgot my lunch at home and really had a craving for a good falafel. I decided to try this place as it is close to his house and in walking distance. I ordered my food and paid. We sat down in the corner of a booth, so i could keep him from jumping up and running around. I Ordered the falafel sandwich in a pita. It was so good and flavorful! The people there were super nice and it had a great feel to the restaurant. I feel as it is important to support local family owned places and I will surely be back again. Even my autistic client who doesnt really eat this kind of food really enjoyed it and took half of mine. The only draw back is, that the sitting area is limited and it is small place and the portions are big. read more

I have been going here for years, The men and women working here always greet me with a smile, be it when I enter the restaurant or we pass each other on Solano Ave. The food is always fresh tasting, a great selection and inexpensive. Service is prompt. We usually get the Shawarma, the meats are always good. On out way to eat there right, a nice walk from home. I highly recommend eating here. read more

Their falafel is the best I've ever had, moist and incredibly flavorful, and the portion of the deliciously marinated wild salmon on their salmon platter is huge! Their baba ganoush is excellent, as is their hummus. All in all, this is the best middle eastern restaurant I've ever gone to, and it's organic too! My highest recommendations. read more

First time here. The décor was unimpressive but the folks already seated seemed to be enjoying their meal so in we went. I ordered the mezze platter. We were charged for the falafel platter but easily corrected. In fact, we were given 4 falafel 'on the house' when our food was brought out. Very nice touch! Food was good and plentiful except for the tabouli. No couscous in it at all . It was basically a parsley salad with sesame seeds. So I've been going 2 this restaurant for a few a few months now, I will be honest their food have been great until today. I ordered a mini falafel platter yesterday and when I got home my falafel were hella old and a bit over fried. My salad had no tomatoes, the hummus was bland, the pita bread was staled... I was so pissed off and disappointed. So the next day I decided to talk to the younger slender guy who prepares all the food very well... yesterday was a older man but anyway they were both there and the young guy totally ignored my verbal complaint and the old guy bagged up 4 falafel and tossed them 2 me like I was a dog and said " here is your falafels" their customer service was so shitty and unprofessional. I was scared to come here because of the so-so reviews, but it's so close to my house and I'm very lazy so I eventually made my way there. The Jerusalem Falafel is awesome, especially with hot sauce! Be warned I don't think it's traditional since it's not in pita bread but a whole wheat tortilla. On the plus side, it's huge and can be eaten for two meals in my opinion. The Jerusalem Falafel has a yummy mix of falafel (not very crispy sadly), eggplant, pickles, and other savory things. I tried the cheese burger and it was pretty good surprisingly! The lentil soup is good, make sure it eat it in the establishment because the to-go container is tiny! The lamb here is very tough and dry at times. The service here is off and on. I've been here enough times now that they are nicer to me, but there were times in the beginning where I thought I should take my money elsewhere, places where people smile. Prices are a tad higher than quality and taste warrant. If you live close, take a chance and visit. If you don't live anywhere near Solano, don't bother making the trek for this place. read more

They make amazing food. I used to go to a falafel restaurant on Telegraph but decided to try Jerusalem Organic Kitchen one day. Best decision ever, everything they use is so fresh. The falafel wrap is very savory and filling, lots of good vegetables too. They're also pretty big which is great. My sister and my mom have since ordered food from this restaurant and were impressed with the chicken shawarma and other menu items. I would definitely recommend this place to a friend. read more

This place is simply awesome! My husband and i eat there regularly as it has the best ratio of quality & price anywhere in the near-by area. The quality of food especially is stunning. Everything is so flavory and fresh, made without too much oil. They are also one of the few middle-eastern places that offers great home-made soups. Their chicken soup is the best ever (you can really feel the richness of the broth), a generous portion served with a warm pita bread. I usually order it with a small Jerusalem salad and often can barely finish it, the portions are so generous. Sometimes I wish the soups were smaller, so that i could have more of their other goodies as well, like their fantastic platters with those awesome sesame seeds on the top. Their fries and burgers are another rare thing... I am not a big burger fan, as I consider it a fast-food with no much health to it, but their burger is something different; you can say that they don't use any junk meat in it, and the special spices make it very tasty. When it comes to fries, I haven't eaten better ones. They are perfectly browned, not too light, not too brown, accurately salted (not over-salted as in many other places) and incredibly fresh as everything else. I have heard the "odes" on their fries before, from a couple of my friends who recommended me this restaurant in the first place, and i must say that they were very accurate! I wish I had something "bad" to say about this place, to sound more objective, but I really dont! :-O It is the best place around, maybe not for a fancy dinner in an exclusive environment (the interior could use some polishing), but for a high quality every-day lunch or a dinner. After reading some reviews here I was also surprised about the complaints about the service. We have been there numerous times and the service has always been great, with a sincere homey atmosphere. Maybe it is a cultural thing as somebody pointed out, but I personally like their laid-back approach, where you feel like the time has stopped and you came to a place that your brother or a relative has, and they ask you what you would like today, throw a couple of friendly words and then you just sit, relax and wait as they prepare the meal in front of you. What a great lunch! Was running errands on Solano and wanted something lighter than the pizza or Mexican food that I usually get. Ordered the falafel sandwich with a side of dolmas. Best falafel sandwich I've ever had! The textures and flavors were intense but also light and fresh and so well balanced that every bite was different, delicious and satisfying. The dolmas are smallish (two or three bites each), soft, beautiful, amazingly flavorful. 1/2 sandwich and one of the dolmas made a great lunch. I was trying to save the leftovers for lunch tomorrow but I snagged one of the dolmas for a snack and midnight-snacked the rest - couldn't resist. The staff were pleasant and efficient. New favorite place! Gotta go get more dolmas, stat! read more

Love this place. Great for families and kids too. We usually get the chicken swarm wrap and the middle eastern (veggie) salad plate. The staff is very friendly and warm. Wish there were more sit down places like this in the area. The house lemonade and baklava is also delicious as is the lentil soup. We usually make it here 1-2 a month. This place never disappoints. Everything is amazing and fairly priced, and I always feel happy and healthy when I walk out the door. The salmon plate (paired with a mixed green salad and the best couscous I've ever tasted) is off the chain. Went there on Saturday eve. Had high expectation from the good reviews. Sorry. 1st, it's totally unacceptable to serve those paper thin pita. Fresh or not. Falafel was fresh. Humus will get 0 star (no flavor, not enough techini). Tabuli salad will get 1 star (no flavor, parsley - too much too coarse). Baba ganush will get 1 (no flavor). The Jerusalem salad is 3 (too much lettuce, no flavor). Service will be 5. read more
