Sent a lengthy msg. to Jersey Mike's corporate headquarters who responded that they would be sharing this review with the franchise owner. This was a month ago and I've not received a response from the franchise owner. So thought I'd share it here. "I ordered a roast beef and provolone with swiss sandwich for take out. Specified mayo both sides. What I received was a sandwich saturated with 3+ tblsp of mayo on each side. Had to scrape off all toppings to be able to take only a few bites. Tossed it. Perhaps a misunderstanding or training issue. NTL, I didn't receive what I expected or could eat. This West Salem store has always been a hit or miss place, but I continue to visit for the convenience, hoping for a hit. Can't justify another visit." read more

I always have a great customer experience and meal here. They move pretty quickly and usually have quite the lunch rush. I've never had an issue with my sandwich and I've never encountered an unfriendly employee. Will continue to frequent this location as long as I live in Salem. Really very disappointed. We were in there a few days ago. We have always had great service, staff have been friendly etc. when we went in not a single hello'. Went to Order as usual and two employees were standing with backs to us and whispering between them. One of them looked at us and said can I help you and when I went to respond again he turned and he started whispering with the employee. Finally got our order in and a couple other people came in. They ordered the same as my bf and another employee asked them what ingredients they wanted. We are waiting and then got our drinks and sat down waiting for them to ask him what he wanted on his sandwich. They did not and next thing they brought it to our table. When we got home with our sandwiches we noticed the bread had been cut haphazdly to where The bread was so thick on top and we feel like our sandwich was of poor quality. The atmosphere was really tense and you could hear a pin drop. When we left there were no other customers and still no acknowledgement of thanks for coming in , nothing. I guess we may be looking elsewhere for lunch next time which is really disappointing as we have always loved Jersey Mikes and don't have one in Independence/Monmouth and always go into Salem to shop. Here's one thing I find bizarre about Jersey Mike's. They make a good Philly Cheesesteak, not great but good. Actually, graded on a curve, that is, compared to the cheesesteaks you get outside of the 100-mile radius around Philadelphia, Jersey Mike's cheesesteaks would be probably be considered great. In or near Philadelphia, decidedly average. Anyway, so let's just say they make a good traditional cheesesteak. Back to the thing that is very weird about Jersey Mike's and their cheesesteaks. They do not stock ketchup in their stores for their customers to put on their Philly Cheesesteaks. None of the stores do. This despite the fact that 95% of the traditional Philly Cheesesteaks sold in the United States are eaten after they are liberally garnished with ketchup. When I asked the guy behind the counter why they don't have ketchup in their sandwich shop to put on the Philly Cheesesteaks, he looked blankly at me and said, "No one wants ketchup on those sandwiches". I countered with, "Everyone that knows anything about cheesesteaks eats a cheesesteak with ketchup. Have you ever been in Philadelphia?" He replied, "Nope, but it doesn't matter, this is the way we make 'em here." "I have no complaint about the way you make them, but, for God's sake, have some ketchup for people to put on their cheesesteak! Is it so hard to stock the #1 condiment people want on one of your most popular sandwiches? Because, to me, those seem like pretty easy dots to connect." "I mean, why wouldn't you want to do something so easy that makes your customers so happy?" Irritated, he says, "Sir, if you don't like our cheesesteaks the way we prepare them, then you're free to buy one somewhere else." "You're just not getting what I'm saying here. The problem is not the cheesesteak. The problem is the lack of ketchup with which to adorn the cheesesteak." "We're not going to stock ketchup just to make one person happy." (sigh) The conversation I'm describing happened today, but this problem is not recent. My wife and I sometimes order the Philly Cheesesteak to go, sometimes to eat in, and when we eat in the restaurant, we take ketchup with us to put on the cheesesteaks we get. You know, like people would normally eat a cheesesteak, that is, with ketchup. We've been doing this workaround for years. It's a pain, but the sandwich is good, so we put out the extra effort. Sure would be nice if they just had some bottles (or even squeeze packets) of ketchup, though. Millions of people that have had actual Philly Cheesesteaks in or around Philadelphia at some point in their lives would be grateful if they'd just stock some ketchup. ADDENDUM: As you can see from the comment below, the store manager responded (immediately) and he/she says there will be ketchup available for people who order Philly Cheesesteaks. I'm going to take him/her at their word and change my rating to 5 stars. I'm happy about ketchup being available. Happy for me personally and happy for everyone else from the Northeast, people that have been eating cheesesteaks with ketchup for many decades. There wasn't a customer in the store when I walked in. I was greeted quickly and told where to order...where I waited....and waited.... while the four employees did who knows what. The fellow who greeted me finally took my order but then proceeded to clean the meat slicer until it gleamed. (He did a great job with that.) After many minutes he put together my sandwich. I really don't like ordering from this location, and I especially hate ordering on-line from this location. This is the closest Jersey Mike's and it's about 45 minutes away, so it's a rare occasion that we order sandwiches, and when we order on-line, they always seem to get something in the order wrong! My grandchildren enjoyed their sandwiches, but mine was not right and not edible! And I wasted my birthday reward to boot!!! I've been to this Jersey Mike's more after moving to a different part of town. I've been less than impressed with the service and quality of this location than some of the others around town. Jersey Mike's offers an app whereby you can have your order delivered to your car outside, along with pick up inside and ready-to-go options. Several times here I've arrived and checked in, then waited past the expected "done" time as indicated on the app. From the car, you can see the rack on which they leave orders to be picked up. Every time I've had to wait past the time, I've gone in and had to locate my bag, which was waiting and cooling off (I order hot food here). It's gotten to the point where, upon arrival, I enter and check the rack for my order. If it's there, I take it and leave. If it's not, I return to my car to wait. As I can see the rack from my car, I can see if something new is placed there. Several times now I've had to go back inside and find my order is waiting behind the counter, ignored. It's a minor quibble, as the food is consistent (although sometimes the meat is not well packed in the bread and it will slide out while in the bag). And to the manager's credit, the last time I pointed this out as an issue, the manager called me from what sounded like a car phone to set the issue right. These aren't deal breaking issues and it -is- just a sandwich order, but the lack of attention to detail has been shown to be pretty consistent. 5 stars for the food 0 stars for messing up 2 of my last 5 orders, causing me to have to drive back so they could fix it. The other day I almost drove off with the wrong chips that were in the bag that was delivered to my car. I can deal with the wrong chips, but not mistakes on my sandwiches. I also had an extremely frustrating experience where I ordered my food online. They did not receive my order. I had the mobile receipt and the money was taken from my account. No big deal really. What was a big deal was that instead of just making my order immediately, they spend 25 minutes trying to figure out what went wrong while I stood there and got angrier by the second. That could have been done at a later time. All they had to do was make it and send me on my way. I Complained to the manager who did absolutely nothing. Take your time. Pretty disappointed with my first experience at Jersey Mike's. I basically had to remake the sandwich when I got home. They didn't put mayo or mustard or anything on my sandwich, nor did anyone ask me if I wanted them. I mean, I suppose I can understand why you wouldn't just put it on there by default, but why would you NOT ask the customer if they want those things?! I was standing right in front of you... You don't just knowingly hand a man a dry sandwich, that's not right. I paid $16 (twice the cost of the exact same sandwich at their competitors) for a sandwich that I had to essentially finish making for them. My family and I have been enjoying our local Jersey Mike's for years. Though I personally don't eat meat, they have an excellent veggie sandwich and you can add some fresh avocado. Unfortunately, they hire immature young adults who think it's funny to add bacon to the veggie sandwich as some sort of joke. They are ignorant to the reasons a person may not eat meat. They are ignorant to how sick a non-meat eater can get if accidentally consuming meat. Let me start by saying that I love love love coming here, and do so often. Great food, friendly staff, and I've never been disappointed. Today, however, I was. The owner stopped by while I was waiting in the store today, and I was appalled by the way she treated her staff. She stopped by to let her granddaughter use the bathroom, and left. When one of the young employees complemented her about her grand daughter, she walked past while making a snide remark. No respect or curtousy whatsoever. Not even a simple 'thanks' or smile. I just thought it was rude, and the employees didn't seem to deserve the bad attitude presented by their boss. I wanted to give this 3 stars, my wife wanted 5, so 4 it is. Pros: Fresh sliced meats and cheeses and larger selection than most sandwich shops (cheesesteaks and panini's for example) Pretty quick service for cold subs, others take longer understandably. Cons: Price (many large subs are $13) and chips/drinks add about $3. Not many condiment/veggie options. If you go the most common route of getting it "Mike's Way" then you better love italian seasonings and oil, because they will drown it in that stuff. Lastly the menu is confusing. Each sandwich has a number as if it's a combo, but on the board the numbers make no sense, are all out of order, and if you order by the number, the staff usually doesn't know what you mean. For a higher quality sub that's worth every penny, try Firehouse subs. read more

On 7/15/2018 @ 5pm I picked up my order. When I got there the cashier was on the phone and never got off it. I was lucky she handed me my order that I did online. My philly steak had 2 little pieces of onion on it. The tuna was all wrong to include it being mike's way which I did not order. The other sub I asked for swiss cheese instead of provolone. I have always been a subway fan and thats where I always went for a sub. I decided to try this place recently since it was almost next door to where I take my daughter for karate. I ended up getting their sub of the day which was the number 4, Provolone, prosciuttini and cappacuolo. This was a pretty good sandwich, I ordered the normal size thinking the small would just be too small, it ended up being pretty big and was more than enough food for me. I had them put some of the sweet pepper relish on the side for me to try and I loved the stuff, next time I get my sandwich smothered with it. One thing I liked was that they slice the meat right there for each sandwich, you don't have to worry about how long its been sitting in a bin. Now would I rank them better than subway? well thats a tough one, each place has their own pros and cons, subway has more items hands down to add to your sub. I definitely would not rate it my number 1 though. When I was driving a truck and over the road for a time i tried a place in another state which I cant even remember the name of but it was more of a mom and pop type establishment, they had the best subs I ever tasted.
