I used to love this place but it's not what it once was. What the heck is this? Not even close to being done. Pretty gross to eat. read more

Great Harvest Bread - Jalapeño cheddar sourdough - Bakeries Near Me - Salem, Oregon

Good bread. Good coffee. Excellent muffins. I have never been disappointed with the breads or muffins and the cookies are pretty good too. On my last visit I got the bread pudding. It looked scrumptious and if it had tasted as good as my eyes said it should I would be going back for more. But it was a disappointment. For being a Carmel apple bread pudding it just really lacked those flavors. I won't let that detour me from going back though. read more

I dropped in to pick up a drink and ended up picking up some bakery items for tomorrow morning's breakfast. Small area and I think they do a bunch of takeout. I'll be back to try them out for lunch. A definite step up from most of the fast food in the area. read more

Sourdough Bread, I have been buying Seattle sourdought from the super market but I noticed they added yeast so I thought I would try the real thing. I bought the loaf from behind the counter (not the day old from the 2 for 1 rack. Dry, dry, dry. Maybe it was just this once. Also not much sour dought taste (which is what I really wanted). read more

Consistency is important. I get the same sandwich but it's a little different each time. Please keep the food counter clean--twice I had to clean it myself. Overall good experiences, we buy Bread weekly. Staff is nice. read more

The sandwiches we got here were good however the service was incredibly slow especially for a slow Saturday afternoon. There were never more than two other people in the store. My elderly wheelchair bound mother had to go to the bathroom but theirs is not open to the public which wouldn't have been so bad except for the extreme wait. I waited and I waited for two simple sandwiches. At last I said I would put my mother in the car and be right back and when I returned for some reason someone who came in after me got their sandwich order. Maybe they called it in but I don't think so....Unfortunately, for me the sandwiches being good did not outweigh the enormous wait time. I won't be back. read more

I went in today for a pastry. I walked in to what felt like a personal conversation between perhaps an owner or manager and an employee. It felt awkward. So awkward that I just walked out. The manager should not be having these conversations right in front of customers. I won't be back.. read more

Staff couldn't be nicer and the hippie turkey sandwich was on point. I got a scone to eat the next day also and It was delicious as well. Space to eat was very clean and I continued to hear every person that walked in get greeted with a genuine hello. Will definitely stop in again when in town. read more

Just bought a Marionberry scone which used to be my favorite but today it was as dry as ash. No flavor. Stale. So disappointed. And the young man working the cash register really could use some training. Hanging on the register, lazy attitude, all unacceptable. I honestly don't think I'll be back, read more

Disgusting. Flies buzzing around everywhere. Terrible service. I waited almost 25 minutes for a sandwich. Ugly as hell too. Tarps in the back, plastic wrapping, loud. Terrible all around. Their bread used to be so good and it's just fallen off! read more

We have been customers with GHB for years. I spend my time and money for GH breads, cookies the gamete. So what's up with the tipping ???? I am not ordering a sandwich. I don't tip for my purchase at Roths IGA or any store for that matter. Manager needs to rethink that one. Yes its an option but why???? I tip you for taking my money, not for food or drink, but a loaf of bread or more. read more

The Rustic Sourdough (Olive Oil, Kalamata Olive) is really good! All the loaves I have bought have been great.

The bread sells for about $6.50 or more a loaf. They mill there own wheat berries into flour. The berries come from the red triangle area in Montana. Which is the finest in the USA. No short cuts here. read more

Great Harvest Bread - Great bread - Bakeries Near Me - Salem, Oregon

Salem's best bread! Variety in their offerings, always friendly service, and great selection. Love their use of fruits and grains in both muffins and scones. Make sure you go early in the day for the best selection, as they do run out of the popular items before afternoon. You can taste most bread varieties before purchase so consider this a fresher, more flavorful alternative to grocery store breads. They also serve Peet's coffee and brew it STRONG. read more

I've ordered twice for delivery, both times the orders were messed up. The 2nd one never arrived after 2 days. The customer service is abysmal. I was blamed for my order not arriving when it was promised, on the web site, when I did exactly as the website instructed. What a horrible way to run a business. Don't offer deliveries, if you can't provide them in a timely manner. Or, at the very least, update your website to state that you won't get your order for upwards of 4 days! read more

Love them. Pancake mix is a family favorite. It's always fresh and available. The eta is helpful too.

My family and I frequent this shop. It's unfortunate that they've had Addie working there recently. She is rude, not helpful and has horrible customer service. It's disappointing that the usual staff is great, but she is less than enjoyable to work with. Im also a little confused because I used to buy butter here with the bread. Last time I asked, they happily charged me for it. I asked for butter and Addie's response was "no", like I was an idiot. Not sure we will come back. I'm read more

I highly recommend this location. The young man that works behind the register should get a raise. There are very few people in customer service like him. He's always very kind, respectful, and cheery. I did not catch his name unfortunately, but he was working today, February 13 at 1:30 in the afternoon. read more

We've bought Great Harvest bread for years, and generally have been pleased with what we've bought. I was in recently and bought five loaves of bread in three varieties. There were plenty of two of the varieties, and only one loaf of a cinnamon nut pull apart bread. The four loaves were excellent. But the one loaf of pull apart bread that was sitting by itself away from the others was dry and tasted old. We were very disappointed I. This, especially after we paid $9.25 for a loaf smaller than all the rest. I think it had been sitting there for days. Disappointing.... read more

I ordered a simple turkey sandwich with lettuce, tomato, cheese and they had an "add on" column. So I paid extra for the avocado, no problem. So I get my sandwich with no lettuce and tiny pieces of avocado in a separate container. It's ridiculous to mess up a simple sandwich, not impressed and won't be back! read more

Do not come here for sandwiches. In the past they have been good, but not today. Dry bread & only 2 slim pieces of turkey on the Ultimate Club sandwich. They were out of bacon & offered another topping, but should have added extra turkey or discounted the sandwich. Also the sandwich was very small for $10. read more

could i give this a zero star rating? bad owner, went in for interview and had to be interviewed standing up. which is never a good idea, felt faint, almost passed out and had to sit down on a stool, and barely was helped. They even stated i looked really pale, The owner kept on interviewing even though i stated i couldn't see or hear well and was seeing spots, and said that "i don't think you're lying" "do you think she's lying?" in a very condescending tone to his coworker, i was absolutely mortified that it was happening, and again it never ever has happened to me in an interview ever before. I sat there for 30 minutes and the whole time he was still interviewing me. Constantly heard that he is about making his workers feel like family and yet i never got a courtesy call when they said they would call me either way if i got it or not. And was never asked if i was okay, Never heard from them again after i left that day. Way to make someone feel even more mortified and worse about it. read more

Just visited the bakery for the first time in several months in that we had been out of the Salem area only to discover that the franchisee had increased the price for its Three Cheese Garlic Bread to a whopping $10.25 per loaf! That's close to a 25% increase from the last time that I purchased this product. Sorry Great Harvest, but I will not be revisiting you until you bring your prices down to the somewhat reasonable zone. read more

Yay, I've found a wonderful bakery in Salem, actually a chain bakery here. All the Great Harvests in Salem always seem to be busy and bustling with customers. They always offer samples, huge slice of bread (more like a free large snack than a sample, if you as me, haha). They make their breads fresh each morning and have so many delicious flavors! I've been looking all over for a place that sells uber-duber soft bread flavored with various spices. Great Harvest is exactly what I've been looking for! Prices are reasonable and they also offer punch cards (buy 12 loaves, get one free)! read more

Excellent bread. But if you order a sandwich, expect it to take 30-45 minutes to make, assuming you are the only person in the store. If there's a crowd it'll take a lot longer. These guys are SLOOOOOW like molasses. It's a shame since the store is otherwise great. read more

It's ok, but I tend to not go out of my way for a loaf of bread. Especially a loaf of chain bread. (A long time ago I didn't know it was a chain. When I found out it turned me off quite a bit.) People go nuts over fresh bread; and they have a right to because it's awesome. But hit up Fred Meyer after you get off work and you can pick up piping hot loaves of delicious bread for far cheaper. read more

Expensive, but quite a variety of good fresh baked breads of many sorts. I bought the jalapeno cheese cornbread. Delicious! read more

Amazing outta this sight sandwiches! My colloquium professor purchased these for our class during our tour of downtown Salem during orientation. The veggies tasted organic and the bread was very fresh! I will definitely see if I can find this bakery somewhere closer to where I live. read more

ALWAYS FABULOUS SERVICE!!!! Went in February for the Chocolate Cherry Swirl Bread (bread of month) walking in it always smells so amazing. The customer service was so friendly, helpful, and inviting. Very disappointed. I ordered egg salad and avocado sandwich on sliced sourdough. The bread was hard and dry, hardly any egg salad. And the avocado was hard and not ripe. I called and all they could say was I'm sorry. Not sure if a change in management. I've had their sandwiches over the years and have always been good. So I was very disappointed. The chocolate chip cookie was good. read more

Used to be a favorite place to go until I just got off the phone with the gal working. She tried to tell me they weren't making sandwiches passed a specific time , even though I was just in the day prior and later. The service the prior day was awesome. Delicious! The bread is tasty and so fresh. I've bought cookies a few times as little gifts and they are always a big hit.

Love this place. Great selection and they have a frequent buyer card. Prices are good too. And they give a free taste of a slice of bread... WooHoo! read more

Only downside to this location is that they don't have sandwiches. Still the best bread in the country.

I LOVE this place. So many yummy things! They have a good deal on their goodies close to closing too. Unfortunately I don't always have $10 to spend on a loaf of bread. But they are amazing when I do. You do get a free taste slice of whatever bread they have on display when you go in and the sales people are always wonderful. read more

We love this place and the breads they make are delicious and unique. During the government shutdown, my husband was furloughed and money was tight. They had a "shutdown shelf" with free bread for government employees out of work. Awesome! Thanks. read more

The sandwiches are hit or miss. Some like, some don't. The bread in general though, omg, it's so good! I've tried almost every type of bread in there and it's all really good, within the flavors I personally like of course. The Apple Crunch or Cinnamon Chip bread is definitely the best read more

Even if I don't buy anything, I love walking in this store just for the smell. The counter people are extremely friendly and helpful and the breads, muffins, scones, etc. are always delicious. It's amazing how much better fresh bread tastes over the loaves you can buy in the supermarket. read more

Always excellent. It's hard to choose, but they give you schedule of the breads they're baking every day for the week.

I applied to work here over the summer. During my interview, the owner (can't remember his name, I think it was Brett or something) asked me lots of really inappropriate questions. I had recently finished college and had moved back in with my parents, which he found weird and asked me to explain. I didn't want to or think I should have to explain, but I told him it was for mental health reasons. He then asked me about what my mental health was like, and how I managed to cope with it. Who asks people about their mental health in a job interview, or professional setting at all?! Then he told me he would only hire me if I promised to work there for at least a year. Again, what kind of minimum-wage, un-skilled job forces you to agree to work there for a year? He didn't have a contract or anything, but said to think of it like one. I feel sorry for his employees, I can only imagine what kind of a manipulative, boundary-crossing boss he must be. That being said, it's a great store and the employees are always great. But think twice before applying for a job here read more
