Love Jimmy John's- but the guy making my sandwich was a jerk. I asked for extra lettuce and cucumber and I know there was clearly a bit of a lunch rush but he was so rude and annoyed that I was there and asking for something. I watched them make it and put no cucumber and very little lettuce and when they handed it to me I said "oh I'm so sorry, is that extra cucumber and lettuce?" And he said "it's whatever it says on there" and rolled his eyes. And moved on and ignored me still standing there. Just not necessary to be mean. read more

Wow, more than three years since my last review, and Jimmy John's is still my go-to fast / casual sandwich shop. I am constantly impressed with the way Jimmy John's has kept the quality consistently high and the service fast and friendly throughout their 2,630 stores (12/2016). I have eaten at more than a dozen different locations, and fast, courteous and cheerful service is the rule, and this location (#1791) is no exception. I think their prices are competitive, and their made-to-order sandwiches are great. What's not to love? Fresh rolls and bread, meats and veggies. Bottomless beverages. Kettle-style chips, excellent cookies and really fabulous "half-sour" pickles. Fast service. Tremendous! I love the Ultimate Porker, #17, on 7-grain bread, with extra extra onions. My better half recommends the Billy Club, #8, on 7-grain bread, or the Club Tuna, #15, on 7-grain bread. I was going to award four stars, but it occurred to me, I haven't gone into a Subway, Quiznos or Jersey Mike's since Jimmy John's opened in Salem. Jimmy John's are just that much better. I've been ordering delivery here lots for my weekly lunch and most times i have zero complaints. Besides the fact delivery times have doubled and sometimes takes an hour to get my food during non peak times every order until today has been extremely fresh. The lettuce i received today had lots of rust on it and made it taste leathery and soggy. i had took a huge bite before noticing. So for some strange reason, I had it in my head that Jimmy John's was a barbecue joint. It is not. It is a sandwich joint. And one that prides itself on speed. When I entered the door, there was a rousing cheer from the guys behind the counter. It was a little startling, but it's the way they get you pumped to be in their business. It also makes sense to me from a small background in the past in food service...it gets the employees energetic and ready to work harder. When you're into your job, you're into going the extra mile. It was really a bunch of teens behind the counter running the place, and they made it feel like a club house. I was charmed. The guy running the register could tell I hadn't ever been in before and as I mentioned above, I sort of thought it was a barbecue place. So I was reading the menu, and he decided to just run me through everything. I opted for a roast beer and turkey sub, with provolone cheese and bacon (for an extra buck and a half). I chose to forgo the onion, mayo, lettuce tomato, and that other stuff....and by the time I had finished paying, they were handing me my sandwich. The sandwich itself was average, but pretty decent. The meat was good, the bread was good, the sodas were self-serve from the fountain. I agree with Chuck (per usual), that the Sub Shop in Keizer is still the best sandwich in the land...but this is a pretty good place to run into, if you're tired of the Subway grind. I'm not sad to see them here. Just...don't go in expecting a barbecue beef brisket sandwich. read more

Love it! I eat here at least once per week. Friendly employees, and very fast cheerful service. My favorite is the #10 (Hunter Club) Unwich, which means "Lettuce Wrap". Add Dijon, Bacon, and Peppers, and your tongue will love it. read more

Last week I ordered sandwich trays for a business meeting. The trays were ready on time and as ordered, but upon serving the sandwiches, I was pretty embarrassed. VERY skimpy indeed. I realize businesses can sometimes have off days, so I called later to explain my experience with the trays. I was quite surprised that the person I spoke to was adamant that all the meat was strictly weighed during preparation. If that is true I assume I should expect similar quality with future trays, so we crossed Jimmy Johns off the corporate catering list. Yesterday I ordered trays from Subway for the same meeting. After comparing the quality of the Subway catering tray to the JJ tray (not even close, Subway MUCH better quality, easily 3x the lunch meat and $20 less for the order, too), I decided to share my experience. I was cheering when I heard JJ's was coming to town. Back in Indiana, there was a JJ's across from my dorm when I was in college. YUM. Good fixings, quality meats, and a bread that is strong enough to fit the bill but bland enough to not steal the show. (And there you could buy loaves of day old bread for a quarter and they made GREAT garlic bread!) Chuck had the right approach: get the JJ Gargantuan. It's a big freakin' hunk of a sandwich with just about everything on it. IT IS GOOD. I think it IS better with bacon, although the bacon they use is kinda thin and uninspiring. But... it's still bacon. It lends a salty, smokey kick every few bites. The staff are ANNOYING PERKY. I mean, if you have to err, let's err on being TOO friendly, but still, at one visit (yeah, I've been there multiple times already) I about wanted to slap her. But on most days, it's a good thing. :) And yes, the service is so fast you'll freak. I took my friend Leah there for lunch, and while the place was PACKED, and multiple people were ordering end-to-end, we were hardly done putting our wallets away before the Gargantuans we had ordered were thrust into our hands. It may seem like a spendy sandwich, but when you sink your teeth into it... it's a BIG sandwich, THICK with quality meats and cheese, and well dressed with fixings. Their many other sandwiches can be had on a sub roll, OR on a lovely thick, flavorful wheat bread. (If I remember, they have a bacon-turkey-avocado that is fantastic on this thick bread.) The place is squeaky clean, the staff are bright and happy, and the food is fresh and flavorful. The last time I had a sandwich at what-used-to-be-my-favorite sub place in Keizer (that I won't name here... ahem), the prices had gone up up up and the thickness of the sliced meats had gone down down down (and while I thought it was just me, I overheard the person beside me ponder the same thing to his dining partner). I hadn't been there for some time, so I was thrilled to see JJ's come to town. Even if they are a chain. Oh, and get the pickle if you're a fan of dill pickes. Jimmy Johns and subway run pretty close to neck and neck and the quality of food that they have which is good. I think that the quality of meat use a Jimmy Johns is a touch better than subways. Jimmy Johns is only one type of bread and yes subway offers quite a few selections. upstroke for Jimmy Johns is that they do deliveries. my favorite sandwich is the gargantuan. Second foray to JJ's Sandwiches. The first in Hayden Island, the second today in Salem. Was not disappointed! Got the Italian Club: packed full of savory meats, cheese, and again that yummy finely shredded FRESH lettuce + onions with just the right amount perfect vinaigrette! I asked to have it cut in half, and they offered (and did) wrap each half separately. Again, very fast service and cheerful staff. Didn't care for the type of music plus it was way too loud!! But, I got my sammy to go. Picked up a little bag their brand of chips (Kettle style) and they were delish too! $8.50 got me the sam/chips and was enough for two meals. Beats any other sandwich shop I've ever eaten at--hands down! read more

I love, love, love this place! My husband and I have eaten here several times, and their sandwiches and service is just great! Someone posted about this place how this place lacks choices, and I guess it does if you want a different bread or substitutions, but while I used to like those options I honestly don't think I will get a sandwich anywhere else after eating here. Price is right on spot with most places with similar products, but to me Quizno's just plain sucks, and Subway has gotten so chintzy with the amount of everything they put on your sandwich pretty much all you taste is the bread..hmmm...maybe that's why choosing from a variety of breads appeals to some people? I love all the fixings they put on the sandwiches and the amount of meat is just ridiculous. I can NEVER finish my sandwich, but it's all good because then I get to eat Jimmy John's twice : ) If you don't like being greeted by happy staff, hear music (I have never thought it was too loud, and they do offer seating outside), want soup, cookies, a sandwich with enough meat to actually fill you up, or your sandwich toasted..go somewhere else, but if you want a great sandwich that will fill you up check this place out! read more

In a town with Subway, Quizno's, Big Town Hero, and several independent sandwich places, Jimmy John's isn't all that special. It's new to the area and that's about it. I have eaten here twice. The one nice thing about it is that you DON'T have to think about what you want on your sandwich. That is the selling point. It is an East Coast thing. Go to a sub joint in New York and you will find that you don't have choices of how your sub is made. It's made THEIR way, not YOUR way, and if you don't like it; to steal from Seinfeld: "No Soup For You!" That being out of the way, they need to spend a little more time on getting orders right. The day I was there, several folks, including myself, got the wrong order. They made it right quickly, but didn't give me anything else for the inconvenience. I agree with others here that they really need to do something about the acoustics in this place. I was dining alone, but I found the noise level distracting. Fast and consistent is what you get. If you are in a hurry, they will have you in and out quick and you can customize a bit by asking for certain things to be left off. read more

Much prefer JJ's sandwiches to nearby Quiznos or Subway. (Also much prefer their fountain drinks, which might sound odd but the syrup mix is better.) Others have mentioned the lack of sandwich options but I'm untroubled by this. I've enjoyed everything I've eaten here. I do concur, however, that the bizarre hidden napkin maneuver (they're located at the end of the counter where you pick up your sandwich) is annoying. And, yes, the noise level is off-puttingly high. Ok, they make a damn good sandwich. The only place I know where I can get real avocado and sprouts instead of lettuce. That said, every day I see bad things about the founder hunting endangered big game all the time. This is not ok any more, or ever was. I found Jimmy John's while visiting family nearby. Had great sandwiches for lunch (7/6/12) with family - all 5 of us ladies were happy with our sandwiches. While I loved my BLT, my sis wished for fresh avocado with her turkey. Jimmy John's really stood out for me when I went back the next day. They went the extra mile and beyond for me. Perhaps this is common in Salem, but it never would have happened in the SF Bay area. So give them a chance to do the same for you! Comments on previous reviews... Yes they do hide their napkins - saving trees? I did see cookies there, but didn't try any. I'm always hungry an hour after a sandwich from their competition. Not so here. I didn't get a knock-your-socks-off cheer - just a nice welcome. Busy? or perhaps they're toning it down a bit so they don't startle their customers back out the door. I didn't find it noisy, and I'm really sensitive to noise - but we ate outside. And they are super speedy, so perhaps we were out before it could bug me. We certainly were out fast! read more

Super disappointed with the lack of ingredients on my beach club today. I order this sandwich every time I go in and it's always really good until today... I get home to bite into stale bread and also very little avocado spread on sandwich which is my favourite part. I wouldn't be leaving a review, but what made me upset was when I called to let manager Jon know he did not care to accommodate he said next time ask for extra toppings.. umm okay! all I wanted was new sandwich. Personally I find this to be horrible customer service. Working in the restaurant industry for 10 plus years to me this is not acceptable service. So I'm sad to say I wont be giving jimmy John's my business anymore a simple apology and a new sandwich would have saved you a customer. But jon doesn't seem to care. read more

Pro: Service really is FAST Con(s): Food is meh. If you're just looking for a sandwich that is made with conventional items (Hellmans mayo, barely green iceberg lettuce, etc), get a sandwich here. Don't expect more than a few thin slices of meat to go with those two slices of lettuce. The sandwich I got was almost $5, what a waste of a cheat day (dont eat refined carbs). I could have easily gone to Fred Meyers down the street, gotten the day old sandwich for $3 at twice the size and more toppings with the same or better taste. I don't get why there are negative reviews for this place. Today I went in for 2 sandwiches and got them both in under 2 minutes. Mine tasted great and so did my moms. Jimmy John's never disappoints! I was happy to see they had added sprouts back to their menu for sandwiches (winner winner to me!). Quick service and friendly staff. But, the music is just too loud at this location to dine in, at least for my boyfriend and me (22 & 23 years old). And maybe we are boring but I personally like to think and talk while dining in - not scream over the music. For perspective I rate Subway and Big Town hero 4/5 stars. JJ is Inexpensive with 8'' sub for under $5 but the food doesn't stack up to other sub shops. I also don't like the heyO welcome and crap music. I think they are trying to put out a cool young vibe but it's not working. Also you can't customize your sub and napkins and condiments aren't easily available. Will only return if a friend just had to go. read more

So I tried this place for the first time today. I had a mixed experience. the sandwich was pretty dang good. i had the #17 ham and bacon. the bread was good but they only have one kind. i would like some different choices. the staff was friendly, and service was fast. the problems i had with it was the music was so LOUD!!!!!!!!!!!!! i couldn't hear the guy that was taking my order until they turned it down. however it wasn't low enough to have a conversation with the wife once we got to our table. also the delivery guy sneezed twice without covering his mouth near the food prep area. i would go there again, but for takeout not dine in. read more

I love their sandwiches! I love when the bread is soft, which sometimes it is more than others. I get my sandwich delivered to work and I swear it takes no longer than 5 minutes. Delivery people are always very polite and nice! Stephen is a great employee, always happy and energetic. Also, their onions and turkey are amazing lol! read more
