I just ordered a 12 ounce non-fat latte and they were going to charge me an extra 90 cents for non-fat milk sub. Non fat milk costs the same as 2% and I always get non fat and have NEVER been charged extra anywhere. The latte would have a full dollar more than the same thing at Saxbys which is a couple of blocks away. No reason to spend more here, there are 4 other good coffee options within walking distance. read more

I have been coming here regularly for over a year now and have really mixed feelings about the place. It is a nice semi-comfortable space and the people who work there are always very nice. So from that standpoint we have a winner! The coffee: The beans they use are pretty good for the middle of NJ, I have no complaints there. I have bought some and brewed them in a variety of ways at home. However, the coffee they serve you in the store is where it all falls apart. The quality of the espresso based drink is highly dependent on who is making it, which should not be the case. 2 out of 10 times it is a good drink. The other 8 out of 10 times it is over or under extracted with the resulting flavor issues you would expect to follow. The cold brew can be good, if they stop 'using whatever beans they have extra of' and focus on the type/profile of the bean to make an appropriate cold brew. Every now and again they use their Brazil blend which makes a great cold brew. More often they use their other blends which make an acidic cold brew thats not very good. The food: Baked goods are ok. Things like cakes and cookies are pretty good, all else is meh. The scones lack so much flavor and are really dry (I know scones are supposed to be dry, but these are a special kind of dry). The quiche is really disappointing and I have no idea why people keep buying it. I ordered it twice and each time it was cold in the center (once was frozen) and the crust was soaking wet and soggy after being heat up in the microwave. They very clearly make a large amount of quiche and freeze the slices to serve over a period of time. It would be far better if they made the quiche daily, however, instead of serving soggy and partially microwaved quiche. tl;dr This place has a ton of potential and I love seeing it in suburbia. if they can manage to become consistent between baristas and focus a little more on quality over convenience they will be golden. read more

Trash. There were a few red flags from the jump first off not easily accessible especially with strollers which is a problem because half their clientele is stay at home haddonfield moms. When you walk in you notice all the cool things they have in there marked almost 20% up from original price but still it's cute it gives off a good vibe. The people working were what you would expect to be in a haddonfield coffee shop a couple waspy hipsters that's probably why the coffee was so bad or maybe because they were hitting the wine because they also sell bottles of wines which is weird in its self. The whole vibe was just douche if you're not a douche bag just avoid it and if you are go in stop by and fit right in. read more

Coffee is great but expensive. Plenty of seating, indoor and outdoor. You have to park on the street but there's a lot of space and it's not a busy road. The only downside for me was the price; I can't drink regular milk and my 12 oz drink ended up costing close to $6.50 after getting alternative milk and a flavor shot. The price is the only thing that would prevent me from coming back. read more

I did not have the best experience, I sat by the window to get some work done and on their yelp account their hours said they close at 8pm but it was 7pm and the young lady kindly told me they were closing soon but I can take my time and And I said okay trying to wrap up some work and not even 2 mins later some guy got in my face and said they were closing now. I did not appreciate how he spoke to me and he even said to the kind girl "you need to be a little more aggressive like me". Square One is a great small batch coffee roaster, and they only supply the best coffee shops. While in town, I tried their drip coffee, pour over, espresso, and cappuccino. The millennial behind the counter explained quiche to me as though the melted slush on a plate is how quiche is served. I really wanted to like this place. I actually enjoyed the decor, and upon walking into the shop I was keeping my fingers crossed that the negative reviews on yelp were really just from folks disgruntled about losing the shop that used to be here. As I'm a new resident, I didn't come in with any of those feelings of resentment that so many of the earlier reviewers had. My husband and I ordered a toasted bagel with cream cheese, a large iced Americano, and a large coffee. A simple order. The bagel was passable, although a little over toasted. And I was a little put off by the two small single serve tubs of cream cheese that made me feel like I was eating at an airport. Sadly, I've actually had better Americanos at the airport. First, the flavor was off. The coffee tasted burnt and murky. And then there was the fact that my drink was iced with a total of four ice cubes. Those quickly melted, leaving me with a semi-warm cup of coffee in an iced beverage container. My husband reported that his coffee was burnt tasting and bland, and that he would rather drink Starbucks (this coming from a man who will drive an extra 10 miles to avoid Starbucks in order to support local coffee shops). Then there was the service. When we were trying to decide what food item to purchase, we inquired about the types of muffins. Yes, there were labels that theoretically should have identified the muffin types. However, the muffins weren't lined up in a way that let you know which was which, and there were empty spaces on the shelf. Our inquiry was met with a poor attitude that made it seem as though we were interrupting something far more important. Between the two young women behind the counter, we didn't receive a single smile or cheerful response in the 5 minutes we were at the counter. There wasn't a single aspect of this shop that encouraged us to return. Which is a shame, because it's the closest to our home and we're avid coffee consumers. So we'll ride our bikes down the street to Espressit, where the service is friendly, the coffee is tasty, and the food items are homemade and wonderful. read more

All right mothers. Here we go again. I still hate this place. I still want Three Bean back. I am thrown off by the generic attempt at retro and sleek. While the top hits rock playing over the speakers is fine and to my taste, nothing else about this place suits me---except the wireless internet I am currently---sluuuuurp---using. Are y'all aware that debit card minimums are practically illegal? As in, oh hey, I can call up Visa and tell them y'all have a minimum that is Absurd for a coffee joint, which those too big to fail credit companies hate across the board, and they would put a freeze on the joint's account? Yeah. So. Maybe you should accept that I am insulted by the cheap-o lamps and uncomfortable 1/3 pod chairs... speciall given that it replaced digs that once had character, interesting literature to read, and cozy fireplace furniture. Maybe you should accept that I am sitting in your uber generic joint sluuuuurrping internet, staring at banality and that YOU caused it. What a waste. The wood paneling on the walls, btw, doesn't match the wood floor. Hrmph. read more

I love the independent coffee shop vibe and I love that they have Open Mic Night's on Friday. When I want to "check out" and relax, I come here for a bit. It's also perfect on a snowy day. The staff here are incredibly rude or dismissive (3 out of 5 encounters), the wifi has never worked (during each of the 5 times that I've been here), and the service is really disorganized. Sometimes they bring you your drink to your table, but other times they leave it out on the counter to cool with little or no announcement. But the banana chip muffins.... divine. Back to the point - one time the register broke while the barista was trying to process my credit card order. Rather than getting the manager or putting my order through to the person making drinks, or even just comping the order, he had me wait there while he processed other customers' orders in cash. So I stood around like a dummyhead for 5-10 minutes while other customers placed their orders and paid in cash. So the moral of this story is to bring cash! Especially because they also have a $10 CC minimum. Also don't ask for your pastry for here and coffee in a to-go cup because the barista will roll her holier-than-thou eyes at you and stalk off in a huff. (I want to sit and enjoy my muffin at the cafe, and then take my coffee with me, because I won't finish the coffee in one sitting and I don't want to waste it! Is that so difficult to comprehend?! Is it such a crime of humanity? Geez Luis.) The stars are solely for the *banana chip* muffins. I will come back here for those muffins and only those muffins. And I will remember to bring cash, because otherwise, I'll have to buy 3 muffins in order to use my credit card. The end. read more

I enjoy coming here on nice days in the spring, summer, and fall. This is mostly because I feel like the seats and tables inside are a bit too close to have a private conversation with a friend, so I love to sit at their cute outdoor tables when possible. The tables on the side of the building are always really cute and private. If you're there to crack open your laptop and get done work, then this is a good place to set up shop. It can get a little loud with the different coffee machines going in the middle of the shop. Overall, I definitely recommend, especially during a nice day when you can sit outside! read more

South Jersey has come a loooong way since I left in 1996 when there *were* no independently owned coffee shops and Starbucks was the only thing in town (which didn't actually arrive til years after that, even). So at least you have a non-chain option that serves a variety of good drinks, seasonal concoctions, homemade baked goods and uses a real espresso machine rather than some crappy powder-mix vending thing that they have at Wawa and gas stations. Lots of seating with a nice mix of large tables and a few couches. There were electrical outlets near most of the tables which is really useful to students like myself who need their old crusty laptops to be plugged in at all times. The Americano I had was just fine - two shots in a small, which came with a bite-size almond biscotti that I actually liked better than the chocolate biscotti I bought - the chocolate had a strange smell when I dunked it in my coffee. I don't know what that was all about but I ate it anyway. In other word, it wasn't bad enough that I couldn't convince myself that the smell/taste was all in my imagination, but it was gross enough that I wouldn't order the chocolate one again. It's true that the cash register location is a little strange because the line bottlenecks at the front door and you have to enter through a second door if there are too many people in line. But I'd take that layout over having the barista within eyesight at all times, making me feel paranoid that I've overstayed my welcome and should either buy something else or get the F out. No one bothered me for the first 30 minutes I sat there without ordering (I was waiting for someone) and once I realized how unusual that seemed it made me like the place even more. So thanks for that. If parking is an issue, park at the Haddonfield Speedline station - it's literally like a 3 minute walk as long as you turn on Euclid after the coffee shop. You can park there for free and it's not like you can't use the exercise, be real. Anyway, for a town that doesn't have many coffee shop options still, I really wouldn't nit-pick over changes made away from coffee shop owners of the past. It's still locally owned, so as long as they aren't heinous people (which I doubt, as I spoke briefly with the owner and she seemed very helpful and nice) I'd go back again. Really, get on with it and just be glad it's not a Caribou Coffee or Saxby's chain with their crappy watered-down varieties instead. read more

So Jersey Java replaced the venerable 3beans coffee shop. The location is nice, and the all-around windows offer a good view of the traffic outside. I think that the remodeling inside is too much though. The owners missed the appeal of the neighborhood coffee shop, and turned homey into an attempt to make a starbucks, thus missing the appeal of a coffeehouse that isn't starbucks! The coffee is fine, nothing really special. They have a number of gourmet teas, but they are the same ones you could buy at any kitchen store. Hopefully when the shine wears off and they bring in some truly unique coffees and teas the staff will feel willing to drop the "soup nazi" attitude and just enjoy one of the easier jobs in food service. Jersey Java, a review in list form: The actual coffee - meh. The shop - double meh. And here's why: Jersey Java is a cool little place. The space and layout are inviting, plenty of seats, outlets and wifi. here's where it starts to suck. The wifi is so weak and sparse that connecting seems to be a total crap shoot. At a coffee shop, this is kind of a deal breaker. Second, whatever they're doing behind the counter that is so loud and so often becomes a constant annoyance if you've gone there to study or work (um... so, like, everybody). I literally have never been in a coffee shop this loud. The actual coffee was ok, and the guy behind the counter did give me one on the house, but only because they require arbitrary minimum purchase of $10 to use credit, which is something that wholly burns my biscuits. Knowing that I have to carry cash (which I never do, because what for?) to get a cup there makes me much less likely to ever go there again. Not only that, but everybody knows that setting minimums on credit purchases is against every major credit card processing agreement there is, and then I have to be a dick and tell them that. Don't make me be a dick, jersey java. Don't make me. Overall, this place is meh... If you want a quick cup to go and have cash. If you want to sit and enjoy a fresh espresso in a work-friendly environment, just go to starbucks a half mile away. The coffee is the same price and quality, and it's got better everything else. read more

There are so many other better coffee shops in the area. I wanted to like this place. The design inside seems hip and modern and there's plenty of room outside as well. It's a visually attractive place. I've gone there several times, all in the afternoon. The first time I walked in, no one offered to help me, the place was nearly empty but the people there didn't seem to acknowledge anyone else. I walked right back out without coffee and I felt like I had just been invisible. This was early on when they opened so I tried another couple times. Once I actually got served coffee, I found it was just ok. Again, there are many better coffee shops in the area. But part of the reason I go to an independent shop as opposed to a Starbucks is for the atmosphere. This has the least friendly atmosphere I've been in, the baristas seem annoyed that you exist, and the hipness is only in the decor. I'd prefer Starbucks. read more

I agree with most of the issues people have with this place. The furniture and atmosphere are too sterile and the food is a little too pricey for a neighboorhood coffee house but I still think it is a big improvement on Three Beans. After the owners of Three Beans basically gave up on the place and decided to manage it from afar it became very filthy and rundown. I was never a big fan of illegially letting dogs in a place where food was served and occasionally deficating. I am really glad that Jersey Java pushed out the old Three Bean irregulars. They were just a bunch of slacker, unbathed, no job flakey weirdos who never seemed to have anything else to do but hang at a coffee shop 12 hours a day and take the best table there. If you can deal with the hike, I think Expressit! would be a better place to go. It's the coffeehouse Jersey Java should have been. Swing and a miss. read more

I am really happy that Jersey Java is still around. I remember coming up here years ago in high school to get hot chocolates and work on Calculus homework. Thankfully, I am not doing any more calculus, and I recently made a trip back to find that it is still a great place to be. This is a very cozy cafe which is perfect for settling in and studying in. I particularly like their comfy couches, however they do show their age. All of their tea is loose leaf (very surprising!). Although the one I requested was out, they made me a custom blend that was really delicious. They also have a nice selection of goodies and snacks. I had the house-made granola with milk, which was a healthy and filling accompaniment to my tea. If I lived in the area, I would be a daily supporter of this small business! read more

In an area of South Jersey that is not hurting for coffee shops, Jersey Java and Tee is a great place to curl up with a book or get some serious work done. It is spacious inside and so you're not sitting on top of the next person. There is plenty of table-top workspace with outlets that helps me get work done when I'm visiting my parentals, as well as ample cozy arm chairs for lounging with the Sunday paper. The coffee is good and reasonably priced, and they boast a great selection of baked goods (has anyone ever had their monsterous cupcakes?? those things are legit!) There is plenty of street parking which is key for that area, considering the parking situation on King's Highway is a nightmare most of the time... and the location is convenient for getting other errands done as well. Lastly, Jersey Java has great hours... open relatively late on Sunday! That's something the local competitors are lacking for sure. OH! and Free wi-fi! I'm a firm believer that all establishments should have free wifi these days..... especially coffee shops, alas I still get excited when it's free. All-in-all, this will definitely be my hometown spot to grab a cup 'o' joe and get my study on. read more

Coffee here is probably the best on the right side of the Delaware River in South Jersey. The owner is very involved and cares about a good cup of coffee. The staff can usually pull a very good shot of espresso, the owner has excellent pulls. Pour overs are delicious too. Quiche and savory food as well as sweet ones, muffins and bagels. In the winter they have a fireplace with couches. Can't do better unless you go across to Philadelphia. read more

I just moved from Seattle and I was just so happy to find an indie coffee shop! This place is lovely: battered leather chairs and couches, old hardwood floors, big beautiful windows with lots of natural light. There's a community bulletin board, which is one of the things that I love and actively seek out in indie places. I can't speak to the coffee, but I had a great chai latte. They brew the chai concentrate themselves! They only have soy as far as non-dairy milks go, but that's probably normal outside of Seattle. This is a really comfortable coffee shop with a friendly staff and an interesting menu. Hopefully I'll be able to come back soon. read more

I really like Jersey Java! I'm not sure why so many people are giving sub-par reviews. I have never had a bad experience here, and I come often (almost every day). Since this place is only a 5 minute walk from my office, it's usually my first choice when I need a mid-day coffee or snack. Plus, it is now the only mom-and-pop coffee shop in the area, and I would much rather support a local business than go to Starbucks or Saxby's! The coffee is good, except the iced coffee can sometimes be a bit more bitter than I am used to. I've also had their homemade chai tea and it's delicious! The service is great- everyone behind the counter is always very friendly. It does seem that there is a high turn-over rate, but it has never affected my experience negatively. The main reason I go to Jersey Java is for their baked goods and outdoor patio. They make their own pop tarts and they are unbelievably good! Plus, the seating outside is so cute and inviting with the hanging edison bulb lights and overgrown plants, it feels like your in a little jungle. I have been spending a good amount of time here lately and I have to say that it is a perfect place to get some work done. I don't feel like I am in the middle of a busy Starbucks where I would potentially run into no less than 3 acquaintances at any given time so it gets a thumbs up from me. The music selection they chose is also a big positive. Their espresso drinks are good enough (though pricey - 4 bucks for a vanilla latte). I was not impressed with their pastries and I hate when there is only one person working because service seriously lags. I needed a table cleaned off and had to wait 15 minutes until I finally just asked for the rag myself. Not a big deal, but if more than one person was working on a Friday evening then someone could tend to the cleanliness. Like I said, I love the location and the general feel of the place.
