I enjoy coming here on nice days in the spring, summer, and fall. This is mostly because I feel like the seats and tables inside are a bit too close to have a private conversation with a friend, so I love to sit at their cute outdoor tables when possible. The tables on the side of the building are always really cute and private. If you're there to crack open your laptop and get done work, then this is a good place to set up shop. It can get a little loud with the different coffee machines going in the middle of the shop. Overall, I definitely recommend, especially during a nice day when you can sit outside! read more

It's not bad. It's not amazing, either. I get that credit card companies suck, but the $10 minimum here is really ridiculous when there are no clear signs about it and when the barista only tells you AFTER she makes your drink. I worked in coffee for many years before I moved to New Jersey and I spent a lot of time when I first got to NJ looking for what was going to be my new favorite coffee shop. The first time I ever walked into Jersey Java over two years ago, I ordered an iced americano. The person who was taking my order said, "An iced coffee?" I explained that I actually wanted an iced americano. She asked me why I would order that instead of an iced coffee. I said I was a coffee freak and americanos generally had a more complex flavor. The second person working the counter intervened, talking about their chosen iced coffee brewed process. He challenged me, saying he bet I couldn't tell the difference between their iced coffee and the americano. He set up the taste test. I easily identified the difference between the two, but I explained that that didn't mean either drink wasn't good. He gave me the iced coffee on the house to take away with my iced americano. This amazing first experience was what initially got me to come back to Jersey Java and Tea. What keeps me coming back is they are always trying to do something a little different and better. Whether that's limiting their portions to ensure the best tasting lattes and cappuccinos, creating their own baked goods, or sourcing different specialty coffees (most recently switching from PT's to Square One), they are always trying something different. I will admit that my first experience was part dumb luck. I think I have continued to receive great service because I love talking shop with the baristas, I am a friendly person, and I tip well. You get what you give. To boil it down-- Pros: Square One Coffee on tap, fresh baked good items, a great tea selection (Mighty Leaf brand), and hand crafted beverages. Nice outdoor patio, decent hours, and free wi-fi. They sell whole bean coffee and bulk Mighty Leaf tins to brew at home. Cons: It can be tough to set up a laptop to work because the outlets are in weird locations compared to the seating. If you are not a regular, service can seem inconsistent. In the summer, they tend to skimp on the AC, which drives some of my friends bananas. They also have lame Sunday hours (closing at either 2 pm or 6 pm, depending on the season). Indifferences: The $10.00 credit card minimum. Either carry cash or buy a pound of coffee and get over it! Disclaimer: I am never at Jersey Java for the "morning rush"--I brew stuff at home to take to work. I head there in the afternoon and evenings. I think this is one of the better cafe's in the area. They're competing with Espressit and Groove Ground, and I prefer their product over the others. The environment is cozy, and offers a lounge area as well as a 'work' area. I love the location, trees everywhere hanging outside in their area is very quaint, disregarding the constant Haddonfield traffic. I have come to like JJ more each time I visit. If you are in the area, I'd say go for it, and stay a little while, because the environment is the best part. read more

I stopped in here to when I had to kill a few hours waiting for my sister. I got an iced coffee and a blueberry muffin. The coffee is great, very smooth and not bitter at all. The muffin was a little dry, I wouldn't get it again. They had a ton of other options such as bagels and quiche. I noticed some reviews say there was a minimum of $10 to pay with a credit or debit card, but it seems they have gotten rid of that policy. I was able to pay my card no problem. I needed alittle me time so I decided to head over to this place for a warm beverage and a light bite to eat . I'm a self proclaimed coffee junkie but I'm trying to break the habit and switch to tea . I asked the guy at the counter if he had suggestions for an alternative ( not your average plain tea bag) . Full disclosure, I'm writing this review while sitting in the business itself. Which in part is why I love this place so much. The relaxing atmosphere that Jersey Java provides is second to none. It's a great location to unwind with a friend, book, or just a coffee. Oh and don't forget the baked goods, for which they have a wide variety. (Cookies, quiche, homemade pop tarts to just name a few.) And what's a coffee shop without the coffee. Their house blend (Falcon Head) is quite good, and I highly recommend it. From cappuccinos to chai lattes they have it all. And bonus marks for the perfectly executed heart on that cappuccino. Cozy and comfy for a small town coffee shop. They have the usual 'coffee' shop drinks... Capuccino, Americano, Latte, etc. The service was very nice.. I actually asked what some of the drinks were (well) most of them because i've never heard of them, but they essentially gave classic drinks their own name. Two coffee drinks, a muffin and a bagel with cream cheese. It was acceptable. Nothing to blow you away, but well prepared. The muffin, however, was less than stellar. The couches and chairs were super comfy (nap worthy). Some people dislike the $10 cc min, but it's understandable.. cc machines require fees per order.. I'd imagine they'd remove it if there was a ton of constant business, but this place seemed a bit slow. What I personally didn't like were the prices of espresso. If you wanted to add a shot of espresso to another drink, you had to pay the full 'espresso' price which was $2++... even at starbucks they only charge $0.79 per shot. I've been coming here since I moved to Haddonfield and this is hands-down my favorite small town cafe - great place to study, to relax and have a cup of joe (or chocolate), or to just hang out with friends. The baristas are so down to earth and really nice - they always greet you when you come in! The coffee, lattes, and hot chocolate are delicious, and the baristas really know how to steam that milk so it's nice and foamy. The baked goods can vary - sometimes they're a little too dry. I've been wanting to try this place since I moved to Haddonfield a few months ago and decided to pop in on a rainy dreary day. The second I stepped inside both of the men behind the counter stopped what they were working on and greeted me warmly. I ordered my drink and snack, a vanilla latte and a blueberry peach homemade pop tart (which were both delicious!), and was excited to dive in. The gentlemen working thanked me for stopping in and I headed out. Because it's a quick stroll from my place, I'll definitely be stopping in frequently. Dear Mary (the owner), I'm very disappointed. I came here on Sunday (feb 11) at 5:11. Friendly counter person. I asked for a dark roast to find it was not ready. To be accomodating, I said I'd try the last of the medium roast. I tried and found it to be not hot and didnt taste right. BUT, that same previously friendly counter person replaced with a small instead of the 16oz I paid for. He refused to replace because he did a pour over. I'm disgusted. I left the coffee behind. I used to love going to Jersey Java, it felt welcoming and accepting of any type of work you needed to get done there. You could sip your coffee and plug into any work you may need to do. Since the remodel, the business either blocked electrical outlets with fixed bench furniture or actually installed block-off plates to cover the outlets. They just want more turnover inside the store and the table section is incredibly cramped. I've been all over the country and many coffee shops later, I've never seen this done before. Head into other coffee shops in the surrounding small towns for electric, spaced out seating, and a laid back atmosphere. The cold brew is okay. read more

I have been meaning to try it here for ages. Often times my problem with non-chain coffee shops is that, while the coffee and treats are delicious, you have to forego certain amenities like wifi, outlets, and space to spread out. However, this was NOT the case at jersey java. At jersey Java, you get all the benefits that can be found at larger coffee chains plus coziness and taste that can be found in a locally owned place like Jersey Java. I had a latte, which was amazing and the latte art made for the perfect picture. I also had a slice of their quiche (Swiss and bacon) and it was definitely worth the high cost (6.50), especially since the slice was so large you could split it. I also had a slice of crumb cake, also delightful and I do wonder if they could warm it. This would be worth inquiring about. The staff here is super nice so I'm sure it wouldn't be a problem. I really want to love this place, but they make it so hard. The past three times in a row I've been there, there has been some sort of ridiculous customer service issue that left me and whoever I was with super annoyed. Starting with the good: the coffee is delicious. The assortment of baked goods is great...quiche is yummy, etc. I've always loved the space...good mixture of comfy couches and real seating where people can sit and work on laptops. Plenty of outdoor seating on nice days. The prices are...steep. BUT I always feel good about supporting a local small business, so whatever. My real problem is the 'tude and just general lack of professionalism that I've seen from the baristas. They clearly know their coffee, and that's great, but here are some of the more ridiculous things that have happened to me there in the past month: --purchased coffee with my mom and went to add our cream and sugar. My mom realized the half and half container was empty and gave the guy behind the counter a head's up. His answer: "Yeah, we're actually out of half and half." Everyone stared blankly at him, including the other people in line. Now mind you, it was before noon, not five minutes before they closed. No apology, no "I'm so sorry, we sent someone down the street to the 7-11 (literally down the street) to pick some up, they should be back any minute." That was it. The guy behind us asked, "is anyone going to get some more?" and the kid literally shrugged his shoulders and turned his back to us. Ummmmmm. As my mom said, when you charge people $8 for two coffees (one of which was just a drip coffee), I don't think it's too much to ask that you provide HALF AND HALF AT YOUR COFFEE SHOP. --another time I was there, a friend asked for her coffee extra hot, and then when it arrived just warm, she asked if they could nuke it in the microwave for a minute. She was very nice about it. The girl behind the counter, on the other hand, felt it necessary to explain in a condescending tone for five minutes that they "actually can't put the coffee cups in the microwave" for some reason I now forget, and then reluctantly offered to add some hot water. Uhhhh. Homegirl. Could you maybe just take the coffee and solve the problem? Put it in a to go cup and microwave it? This doesn't seem like THAT hard of a problem to solve, nor can I imagine it's the first time someone has asked for their coffee extra hot. Again, everyone in line sort of looked at each other helplessly as this happened. --this is a small thing, but they have multiple sizes for every drink on their board, but then half of them apparently only come in one size? I know it's a small issue, but you'd think it would occur to someone to change the menu so they don't have to keep telling people (last time I was there it happened to both me and the woman behind me). Jersey Java owners, please give your baristas some basic lessons in customer service. Again, they know their coffee, and they're generally nice until there's ANY sort of minor hiccup, and then all basic common sense goes right out the window. This has to be my new favorite coffee shop! I was really hankering an iced coffee and a pastry to snack on, so I decided on giving this place a shot. Upon entering the coffee shop, I was greeted by a very friendly barista and she was willing to chat. The coffee shoo has that very hip/trendy vibe to it that you would get in big city areas, and I dug that. I got my iced coffee and a blueberry coffee cake as my snack for the day. The iced coffee was a great pick me up for the day and the blueberry coffee cake was a delicious/sweet treat. I waited a couple of months before writing this review, in order to settle down and think about things soberly. To start with, I should say that I go to coffeeshops to relax, read, do some work, or just hang out. Prior to my last visit (about a couple of months ago), I had thought about making this my go to spot in South Jersey, but that's not likely. I had been to the coffeeshop several times. I have a rule: order food! Don't just go in for the WIFI. Depending in how much work I have to do, I may eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner at a coffeeshop. Okay, ground rules are set. The last time I visited, I sat to the extreme right side of the shop, at one of the tables. I started doing my expense reports. I should mention that I had ordered a slice of cake and a latte. I should also mention that except for me, there were only two other people on that side of the shop. While I'm finishing my expense reports a guy comes over to me. I can see he's a little annoyed with me doing work there, so I ask him if he wants me to put away the receipts. He nodded yes. To be fair, I had a pile of receipts on the table, and I could see how this could be an issue (though it hasn't been at other coffeeshops, as they tend to be more laid back). Anyway, I ask him if he wants me to put them away. He says yes. So, I comply. No worries. I can do some reading, and finish my cake. I finished my cake. About 5 minutes later, he comes over with a guy who is setting up for the band. He says, "Alright my friend, it's about that time." He didn't ask if I would be okay moving To another spot. His tone and demeanor made it clear that he wanted me to leave. Remember when I said that there were two other people on that side of the store. Well, one guy was sitting at the high counter that faces the window, and the other person was sitting to my right against the wall at one of the smaller tables. She asks if she needs to move as well. The answer: "No you're fine." I left because I didn't want to make a scene, and I was just taken a bit unawares. After I left, I started getting kind of angry, and thought about writing a review, but I wanted to give it some time. I also thought about going back and asking what the issue was, but wasn't sure if I needed to do that. Anyway, I settled on this review. I would not recommend this establishment to anyone. I don't think it's the kind of relaxed coffeeshop that many of us are used to. I think they want to portray an image that is snooty and upscale. A previous poster mentioned that she was stopped before she could plug in her laptop. I wouldn't be surprised if they got rid of the outlets. I don't know if the owner reads the reviews in this site, but how you make your customers feel is really important to the success of your business. read more

My boyfriend and I love this place! We mainly love the espresso drinks. I've had the iced coffee and would not recommend it unless you're used to independent coffee shop iced coffee. My normal is a soy latte and it is delicious. The people working are always so friendly and patient! I pass by this place all the time and it always looks so inviting. Finally had the pleasure of stopping in and was pretty happy with the experience. The inside is beautiful, plenty of comfortable seating and trendy decor. I could see myself spending a lot of time here. Outside also offers a good amount of seating. I ordered an iced tea and a crumb cake. The ice tea was ok nothing special to me, but I rarely get ice tea to begin with. The crumb cake was wonderful not to hard and perfect crumb to cake ratio! Well, this is definitely a better-than-2 1/2-star place, which is where it's sitting as I write this review. I never got to experience whatever the place was like with the previous owners, but I got a great macchiato with velvety foam. The ambiance was rather mod...we didn't have trouble finding parking right in front, but as a previous reviewer mentioned, there's a big lot not too far away. It seems to me like maybe the current yelp rating might have less to do with the actual quality of the current place and more to do with it being different from what past patrons were used to. This is a nice little corner coffee shop. They have good pastries and I even tried the quiche today, which was quite yummy. I'm going to be honest, though, I am not a fan of their coffee. I've tried it several different times (used to work up the street) and tried different types, but I just do not like it. It has a bitter under current.
