I visited Jerry's for the first and last time this past Monday. My experience was only slightly better than being waterboarded by the CIA in a dark, off the grid location.
We headed over to Lincoln Square to go to Cafe Selmarie but they were apparently closed on 7/3 for the holiday. Considering the fact that Jerry's had a decent sized crowd and some of our friends gave the place a positive review, we figured we'd give it a shot. When we walked in, we were seated promptly. This was pretty much the only positive part of the entire experience. We sat and waited for about 20 minutes without anyone acknowleding our presence. At that point, we started to stand up to leave and low and behold, our waiter came to the table. He looked at me and said "What's the problem - are you leaving?" I should have taken the entire experience up until that point as a cue to get out but I sat down and ordered. He brought our drinks within about 5 minutes but we waited a solid 30-40 minutes for our food. When the food came, it was average, at best. Our sandwiches sounded much better than they actually tasted and the mac and cheese that I got as a side was virtually tasteless. My wife didn't even finish her sandwich - she had to remove most of the avocatdo and produce because it didn't look fresh. She described her sandwich as "yucky."
When we finished eating, we sat and waited, and waited, and waited some more - yet nobody came to give us the check. We waited close to 45 minutes before I saw the waiter behind the bar and decided to bring him our credit cards to close out the check. I asked him to split it between the two cards and a couple of minutes later, I heard him yell "Hey - hey, you, sir. Here are your cards" from behind the bar. I got up to get my cards from him and noticed that he charged my card twice but hadn't charged my wife's card. This was annoying but it wasn't the end of hte world. It certainly wasn't something that I was willing to bring to his attention because we would have been there for another hour while he tried to fix it. Since this was a less than stellar experience, I still left a tip but I only gave 10% and we got out of there.
A couple of hours later, the stomach problems started . . . something either wasn't handled right or wasn't clean at this place. I'll spare you the details on that.
Icing on the cake - I checked my credit card statement today and saw that the waiter took it upon himself to add an additional amount on top of the tip that I left so that he got 20%. Bogus, man.
So, to wrap it up, the service sucks, the food sucks, and in the end, they'll rip you off by adding an additional gratuity to your card. Don't go here. read more
