What a complete and utter disappointment. I can't review the food or drinks because we were never allowed in the door. A friend of ours called to get a table for 15 people to eat, drink, and watch Game 3 of the World Series. All of us are runners and are near Jerry's several times a week so we were looking for a good place to get our hang out on that night.
We made the reservation. We asked to be near a TV to watch the game. We were told no problem. We went out running, grabbed our things, and hustled to the restaurant. Our friend met us outside and told us she had already been in and had been taken to a table completely out of sight of the television. She politely asked if we could be moved to the entirely empty area in front of the bar - mind you, it was more than enough room to seat us - and she was told no. When she asked why, she was told "Because this is where we are seating you. Those tables are for people who want to drink". We had every intention of drinking. It's Game 3. The Cubs are in the series. It's what you do. Despite assuring the manager we were going to drink we were then told "No, we can't seat you there because the group is too large". We then offered to split up. We would gladly split ourselves into smaller groups and have separate table tabs if that was the issue. I've waited tables. I've hosted and managed restaurants. Do not for one second tell me that is an issue or not feasible. But that's what the manager did. I could not make this up. When we offered to split up, he said "No, we won't serve you if you split up because we will know that you all know each other". WHAT!?!?!!?!?! That's a first for me and is VERY bizarre.
I'm not sure why seating me at a table is affected by who I know and who I choose to associate with, but I have a serious problem with that. I'm not going to allege anything because if I go there it will just get worse but there was absolutely no valid reason for this, and no matter what he said and what we countered it with, he couldn't give a business-driven reason for this choice. He wanted to do this just because.
I looked around that night. The place was half empty. And those sitting at the tables were families with small children. They maybe had another 30 minutes in them. If I was the owner of this restaurant I would seriously reconsider my staffing choices and put my managers through proper training and possibly some business management classes.
We went to Fork. They seated us immediately and we proceeded to give them 3k. Mostly drinks. A friend ended up arriving later in the evening and mistakenly went to Jerry' first. She reported how empty the place was. Hate to say I told you so. You lost our business. None of us are ever going back. And we will ensure everyone we associate with won't either. We stick together like that. read more
