We had a very poor experience at this dental clinic. Dr. Chen was extremely rough and displayed a poor attitude toward a 90year old Patient, which was very upsetting to witness. I also had a negative experience with him in the past, which ultimately caused me to change it to another dental clinic, even further away from my home. I had a chipped front tooth, and he told me there was no way to treat it and advise me to just leave it as it was for one or two years. Eventually, I had to undergo a root canal and get a crown placed. We feel that there is a lack of responsibility and genuine care for Patients. Dr. Chen used to be a kind and attentive Dentist, which is why our entire family followed him for many years. One of the best dentists in the san Gabriel valley. Very nice, calm, professional, knowledgeable and what is very important fast and accurate due to his experience. I've gone to dr. Chen for years for many dental needs and have been always happy especially when he explains things, answers questions and does things quickly and right the first time vs my experience with some less experienced younger dentists that seem to be more about volume and flash. He is patient and can identify the problem quickly and just takes care of it. Doesn't try to upsell you on other work like some new offices do while you are in the chair. His office might be smaller no frills compared to some of the newer interior decorated offices but he has all the right equipment and experience which is always more important . Bilingual too. One word I searched in the reviews that came up with 0 reviews is the word "gentle". I'm not saying Dr. Chen isn't gentle but he works way too fast and even makes the gums bleed. Bleeding is exactly what I fear when I go to the dentist, and maybe my previous dentist was way too gentle and easy on his patients, but then again, he shows us exactly what we are doing wrong, and that is why our gums bleed. He seems like a good dentist that cares to educate his patients on how to floss correctly but it's a bit too rough for me, honestly. Another negative is the hours. It's not too clear what the hours were, nor are they posted anywhere. Dr. Chen is one of the most honest people I know in the dentist business. He reminds me of a guy that just wants to help out people. This place isn't at all on the expensive side and if anything he will try to make it more affordable for you! I get my yearly check up here all the time. To tell me if I'm getting any new cavities or need something. But most of the time it is just for cleaning and he does a really good job!! I know I know a lot of people hate going to the dentist because they might be scared of what the dentist is going to say. But you don't want to wait till your in soo much pain that you might have to take the whole tooth out! That will not be fun and it will also be costly. I suggest trying him out to see if you like him. But I think you will because he has a great staff. Also this place is super duper clean! Oh yea don't think that just going to the dentist you will be fine..you got to follow his instructions like brushing well and also flossing to make it work! I've been going to Dr. Chen for years and at first I liked his 10 minute cleanings and very abrubt straight to the point and out stance. My partner questioned how thorough 10 minute cleanings were though and said his dentist spends a lot more time probing for things wrong. I had gum pain and Dr. Chen directly recommended me to his endodontist Dr. Yu and kept saying "he's great I recommend my own wife to him.". I thought that was strange but I went to the endo and he immediately recommended a root canal. I was hesitant, I clean and floss and see Dr. Chen regularly and had no problems for years so I didn't feel it was necessary. I went to a 2nd dentist to get another opinion and he told me it was just a cavity and I didn't need a root canal and filled it and it's been fine since then. He then said wow, your old dentist still uses old filling material that no dentist uses anymore because of the mercury! Great. I then told my coworker what happened and he said the same exact thing happened to him within the same week. Dr. Chen recommended him to go to the endo to get a root canal and he went to the same 2nd dentist who just filled it and said it wasn't necessary. I don't know what's going on but don't hesitate to get a 2nd opinion if he recommends you to see the endo. I'm not going back to Dr. Chen anymore. read more

I used to see Dr. Jeffrey Chen at his office on San Gabriel blvd for years. After he moved and open his own dental office here at Temple City a year ago. I been following him and have my dental works done. I am definitely not going anywhere else again because finding a good dentist was really hard, especially when you want a dentist who truly care about your teeth and concerns. Here are my reasons why I recommend patients to see Dr. Jeffrey Chen: 1) Convenient Location - His new office is located 10-15 mins off from the 210, 605, and the 10 freeways. There are plenty of 2 hrs parking spaces in the back, and he even have a back door conveniently let patients with appointment to come through. Handicap/ wheelchair patients are welcome as the office have ramps for easy access. 2) New facility - The whole facility was newly-renovated and designed as they open a year ago. All of their equipments are new and latest technology. For example, computerized X-Ray vs traditional X-Ray films. (You get to see your X-ray on the computer 1 sec after it was taken! How cool is that?!) 3) Professional, Patience and Caring Dentist - Dr. Chen is very knowledgeable and professional. He will explain what procedures he is going to perform before he starts. And he will explain to you what areas you need play more attention. No need to worry about getting rip-off like some other dental office! The receptionist will inform you if you need any co-payment before having any dental work done. Even the cash price for non-insured patients are very reasonable. 4) Friendly staffs - their staffs will make sure you are comfortable and get taken care of. Even the receptionists are detail at explaining the procedures you need and any insurance problems/ questions you have. 5) Cleanliness - All their dental equipments are sanitize after each patient visit. New clear protective film is apply to all machines and light to ensure patient safety. The restroom is super clean too. (That's a pet-peeve of mine- must have clean, freshly smell restroom.) 6.)Language- Dr. Jeffrey Chen is Taiwanese, but he is fluently in English, Taiwanese, Chinese, and even Cantonese!! This make easier on my parents when they visit. 7.)No Wait Time!!!! OMG This is a must! We all know how dreadful it is to wait hours at a health care facility even with an appointment. NOT AT DR.CHEN~ here, the appointment time you made is the time you will see Dr. Chen. Patients are expected to be on-time and is seen one after one. So I gave it a try even though I don't live around the area, plus it's been almost a year since I went to visit a dentist. As a first time patient and I was running late due to some CNY festival w/ horrible traffics..as always..on a typical Saturday. I called in and said I'll be running a lil late, maybe 10mins. But I was being told that they can't do that for first time patient and 5mins is all they can give. So fine, I pretty much rushed there and I was actually on time, w/ driving way over the speed limit of course. =x (kids, pls don't this!) I thought I had my insurance card but I actually didn't, but they didn't ask much and just said it's alright and had me followed to a room immediately. It is true that they got more high tech systems and x-rays were easily taken unlike the one I used to go to, they will put in pc by pc, which sometimes scratches my mouth! Arrghhh! Other than the x-rays, they actually taken real colored pics of my teeth as well; to show me how my teeth really looked like..obviously, not pretty..x.x Anyway, he explained to me why I feel some pain (not cavity~yayyy!) and tells me how I get stains even if I don't drink coffee and/or tea often. He basically told me all the things that my previous dentist did not care to tell me about. At least he didn't say braces were necessary and did not try to convince me to get braces! Most importantly, he didn't say my teeth will break if I don't get braces!!!!!! I feel like I had a horrible dentist in the past! Last by not least, payment! I do have dental coverage from work but it's only covered at 50% and I also have a $50 deductible; but the moment they told me I was set, I asked about the payment. Because that would be the very first thing my previous dental would do, collect my money! Then he told me, they usually waive pt's deductibles! How nice!! I've been to many dentists in my life after my childhood dentist decided to give up his practice. And I feel that Jeffrey Chen is the best out of them all. You know those dentists who try to make small talk with you, and ask you about school, life, etc. Yeah, there was this one dentist who, upon finding out my parents spoke Cantonese, began to talk about his childhood and his life overseas WHILE working on my teeth ... but Dr. Chen gets right down to business and focuses solely on the teeth. No extra chit-chat, which is what I like. Also, there is never a wait. I always make my appointments ahead of time, and he is always prompt. The office is always well lit and very well kept, so it's welcoming to the patients. Everything looks new and spotless which is reassuring. I want to apologize first to many that might be offended or disagree, but I will give you all honesty as this is to review my experience here. I found this place by YELP. I trusted Yelp before when looking for a dentist, but definitely will never IN MY ENTIRE LIFE to ever go to this practice ever again. This place looks new, so maybe they need time to work on their customer service etiquette. Maybe the government isn't providing enough funds for them. Maybe they hate patients with no cavities or no need of braces because maybe they can't profit from them. I worked in a corporate medical facility before with more people than 0 patients in all hours. No matter what kind of customers/patients there are, I would be polite, patience, helpful, friendly, and NEVER be like the character, Yev Kasem in the show, Seinfeld. Be aware, this is a place where you might experience a Yev Kasem way (remember the soup manager in Seinfeld?). Maybe if any of them read this, just maybe their behavior would improve. I hope so if they still want to operate their business. This is for a person without the dental insurance, but paying cash. Maybe, just maybe this explains why this facility was negative with attitude towards me. I didn't haggle! I personally wouldn't know how this facility would treat people with insurance. I have no enemies, just the people here wanting to create enemies. My experienced: Yes they explained to me I have to make an appointment even when I just wanted basic cleaning because the Dr. needs to examine my teeth. Yes, I just can't come in for the Dr. to look at my teeth (and besides, no patients were there when I got there). Understandable as most places are that way. No cavities, but tartar building up (not the black tartar, but stains). He insisted I can't have a basic cleaning and needed X-Ray and some deep cleaning. Yes, I do understand that. I politely, patiently repeated that I just want a basic cleaning and next time I will have a thorough cleaning because I will be saving up money for it and having insurance. He still insisted NO, HE WILL NOT with his dishearten attitude. He said that I could make another appointment for the X-Ray and deep cleaning (of course in the hundreds that I am aware of). He sounded as though he doesn't want to deal with people who don't follow his exact order, and not listen to what the patient/customer wants. He insists on what HE WANTS FROM what he sees in your teeth. I JUST WANTED A BASIC CLEANING ON THAT DAY. I'm not asking much and next time I'll do more cleaning. I did not raise my voice, and was extremely friendly to them. I felt extremely uncomfortable in this dentistry. Finally, I asked if I could have a copy of the document I filled out and signed. I honestly feel threatened the way they questioned me. Not much explanation as to why I can't have a copy (remember, I worked in a medical facility). Yes, they said if I want it shredded, they'll shredded. Throughout the whole experience, I felt that they wanted to kick me out fast when there are no patients waiting. Yes, they didn't charge me the examination when they took the computer images after this issue. I don't care how new their place is, what school the dentist went to, or years of experience. It doesn't give them the right to have a degrading attitude while showing their pretentious politeness. FOUND ANOTHER DENTIST RIGHT AWAY ON THAT DAY: Simple conversation just like the one before: "I want a basic cleaning and nothing else today." The dentist said no problem. I filled out the application, asked why I needed to put my SS# when paying cash. She explained it to me while showing me the documents that are up against the walls. BINGO! The office seems to always get it wrong and call the wrong family member for appointment reminders. Even after they've been told, they still get it wrong. It shouldn't be that hard. On my personal visit there, the dentist was very nice, he explained things well and his equipment/technology seems very up to date. He was very friendly. On a different visit, I came with significant other and wanted to be in the exam room. He does not allow it. He told me to go back to the waiting area. I was PISSED! The examination area has so much space, even other dental offices allow patient's family members to accompany them. Even another dental office I've been to, which has even less or no space at all allows patient's family members to sit in. Even physician offices allow family members to go in if the patient requests or feels more comfortable that way. If I were to bring my child there, is he saying I can't supervise my child? Or an elderly who needs assistance? If I am paying for the service, I should have the right to see what is going on. Afterwards, Dr. Chen decides he will let me in and explain things to me. He has an attitude but then he calms down a bit. After this incident though, I am so turned off by the customer service that I'm afraid to go back. read more

I though I got a good deal in dental cleaning, but reality they skip some corner which it harm me later, they didn't do a x-ray which later one I find out I got a decay tooth, early detection would had make a huge different. This dentistry is a dream come true. Jeffrey Chen is as straightforward as it gets and he's skilled, honest, and quick. My previous dentistry is literally the polar opposite of this place and I'm not going to get into how peeved I am about that place. Let's just say it's full of lies, scams, deceit, and fake smiles. Edit: I lied, I did get into it. It never takes more than 15 minutes to get in and out of there, which is amazing to me. You ever play Pokèmon and go to Nurse Joy to have your Pokèmans healed? He's extremely legit, charges your insurance, saves you money, and is pretty affordable in pricing. My previous dentistry always loved to pretend like they're super cool with me and always have this giant smile on their face and I'm like wtf I don't even know your name...all while trying to up sell me stuff using scare tactics and scam me by placing fraudulent charges to my insurance. If I sound bitter, I really really am about them. But this place is a godsend. No bullshit. It's so straightforward that the outside sign just says "DENTIST." Even the receptionist (Angel I believe her name is) is great and helpful. I've also never had to wait around for my dentist to be ready. I think that's a result of their no tolerance on tardiness attitude. On my first appointment here, I was late like ~10 minutes because of road construction all along Las Tunas. So this is a girl that has her fair share with multiple dentist..... -the past 9 years i have been in school for undergrad and graduate school and having no dental insurance is a pain in the butt, so often times i would just hop from dentist to dentist trying to find the best deal, quotes, and one that cares about my teeth! I FOuND MY DeNTiST!! My coworker had recommended him saying that she has the "BEST DENTIST IN THE WORLD". I am so excited and at ease when i go to the dentist now. I am never going anywhere else. Dr. Chen is not only compassionate about his job, but he really make sure you understands what is happening to your teeth and explains everything. He has the latest technology, so no more films XRAY but it gets projected on the computer, and he explains what is happening to your teeth. At my first visit he had to remove my painful wisdom teeth and he did it in LESS THAN 10 minutes. I was so shocked when he put gauze in my mouth, i was like are you done? I remember in high school my other wisdom teeth removal took over an hour. He's SUPER professional and knowledgable. His office staff is very accommodating and helped look up my dental insurance over the phone and explained some tips in order to help deal with the pain from my wisdom teeth. I followed Dr. Chen from the old San Gabriel location to this nice new one in Temple City, even though it's further for me because he's awesome. He's extremely fast and efficient, and does practically everything himself. He's also very genuine and straight forward. There is no bullshitting with him, but that's not saying he's not a nice and funny guy. The only thing is that I don't recommend him for people scared of pain. I travel 67 miles each way to see him from Fillmore Ca, I used to live in Temple City and that's how I got to know him.I would not go to another dentist! Period! Dr. Chen is the best! My whole family has been going to him for years. He used to work in an office in San Gabriel a couple of years ago and now has his own office in Temple City. Having had my share of dental work, I must say Dr. Chen has made my dental visits less frightening. I mean, who likes going to the dentist? Surprisingly, I DO now...well I don't mind it at least. I'm always nervous at the dentist but I always ask him lots of questions before he does anything. I always ask him if something will hurt before he even starts and he's honest, he'll tell me straight up: "Yes, you will feel some pain" or "No, you shouldn't feel anything". I guess what is most important is TRUST and I've developed that trust in Dr. Chen. I believe in his judgement and work. That's the main difference between Dr. Chen and other dentists. Dr. Chen is the best dentist I've ever been to, and the only dentist I will go to. I was so HAPPY when I found Dr. Chen again!! I used to go to him back when he was on San Gabriel, but then I moved out of state. I just moved back and was so sad that he had moved. I didn't remember his name and didn't know where to find him, so I went to different dentist - WRONG DECISION. After a horrible experience at another dentist, I was determined to find Dr. Chen again to get his second opinoin so I rummaged through all the old business cards I could find and finally found his name and was able to find him on yelp. I'm slightly biased because we share the same alma mater, FIGHT ON!, but honestly he is the most knowledgable, efficient, genuine, and honest dentist I've ever known. He will never trick you, he gives you all the options available and tells you the pros and cons of each option. He is very thorough with his exams and will always show you pictures of your own teeth and will explain in laymans terms what the problems are. It is very hard nowadays to find a dentist/doctor that you can trust, that has your best interest in mind. Dr. Chen will do what is best for you, not what will make him the most money. My last dentist was a horrible experience, but Dr. Chen has made going to the dentist less dread-worthy. Walk-ins are accepted, but I've always made an appointment. Some dentists make you wait even though you have an appointment, but there's never a wait for Dr. Chen. He's very efficient and my appointments are usually finished after half an hour. He's very thoughtful if you have sensitive teeth, and gives good advice. He puts an emphasis on prevention rather than treatment after the fact. I went in for cavities, and he took several pictures and really went over the x-ray and explained everything. I found Dr Chen on Yelp and thanks Yelpers, he is just great. I am scared of seeing dentist since I was little. Those sounds from the drilling machine, OMG. But this time I had no choice as I hurt my teeth when I am chewing on a crunch pizza base, poor me, hehe. Waiting time: I need to pay several visits since I haven't seem a dentist for years, and there are lots of problems with my teeth. Every time the wait was less than 5 mins, awesome. Dr Chen managed his appointments quite well.( For some doctors, I've experienced 1+ hour waiting even with an appointment) I believe it's because Dr Chen is very experienced so that he can finish each patient within 30 slot, therefore, he can properly schedule his patients and minimize the waiting time. Technology: Dr Chen did a thorough teeth check with his X-ray machine and teeth imaging machine as lots of other Yelpers mentioned. Bedside manner: He clearly explained my teeth condition, gave out suggestions, answered all my concerns and leave the decision to me. Not pushing for any service. I also brought my husband and my 4 year old daughter to see him. Best.Dentist.Ever. I remember the days when it would take hours out of my day to get my teeth cleaned. I also remember how front desk ladies would make me feel like they're up-selling me or being shady with my insurance. This is NEVER the case at Dr. Chen's dental office. I went in to get one of my crowns replaced. My first visit took 30 minutes to get X-rays done and molding. My second visit involves putting on the new crown along with teeth cleaning. Total time? 20 minutes. I've been a patient of Dr. Chen for 3 years now and so far in my experience, I will never ever choose another dentist over him! He is not only efficient, but he is thorough. I usually do not leave reviews but felt that this office can use some constructive opinion. Dr Chen is very knowledgeable, caring and skilled. He will take care of your dental health. I only gave a 3 because I do not have a positive overall experience here due to the staff. There is a young lady there that is extremely rude. She seems to have difficulty understanding patients are her CUSTOMERS and not her inferiors. He made me change the way I feel about taking care of my teeth and the importance of flossing in a very positive and motivating way. After the cleaning he took x-rays (free with the cleaning procedure only $40) and showed them to me and explained everything I needed to know about my teeth, gums, and prior cavity fillings so that I can better take care of them. I've been coming to Dr. Chen's office for all of my dental needs for a little over a year now. So far, I've gotten a few cleanings and a temporary crown. I'm going to get my permanent crown this Saturday! If you've been to enough health facilities, you should know that the wait is almost always excruciating. Not here! I've never had to wait for more than 5 mins for my appointments. I suggest that you get there a little early because I was late once and his assistant called me one minute after the appointment time. I don't dare to be late again...I really appreciate his staff's effort to keep everyone on schedule because that means I won't have to wait for my appointment. Dr. Chen also does his part to be on schedule. He works fast but delicately and efficiently. He begins with giving you a concise overview of the purpose for the appointment and the condition of your teeth. Don't hesitate to ask him questions. He will patiently answer any questions and address any concerns that you may have. Dr. Chen does the teeth cleaning himself. I've always dreaded teeth cleaning because the dental hygienists always dig whatever tools they use in my teeth mercilessly and I end up in pain. I feel little to no pain with Dr. Chen's refined teeth cleaning technique. This past weekend, I went in for a crown fitting. The appointment was at 10:30 and I got there at 10:25. Dr. Chen was able to see me right away. I was out of the office by 10:50. His office assistants are friendly and helpful. The office is clean and neat, but it's unlikely that you'll have much time to examine his office anyway. There is plenty of parking in the back. I highly recommend Dr. Chen! read more

My friend told me 'bout Yelp, and I created an account just to review Dr. Chen. DR. $$$ CHEEN $$$ CHEEN $$$ nearly wiped-out half of my dental insurance benefits for the year for replacing two fillings. He actually put in claims for more than what he was paid, but likely my dental insurance denied them. I decided to go to Dr. Chen because he was near my area, eventhough he was not in my insurance list of providers. I called ahead about coverage, and his staff said it wouldn't be an issue. I showed up to a spartan office, and soon enough I was put on the high chair to be worked on. After the x-ray he sticked an intra oral camera in my mouth to show me the two cracks on my old fillings. He cleaned my teeth quickly, and then replaced the two cracked fillings just as fast. Just like that I was in and out of his office. It was fast! Sometimes later I received a benefit summary for the services provided at Dr. Chen's office from my insurance, and I couldn't believe what I saw. Over $ 500.00! But me being me I forgot 'bout just as fast. Until I received a call six months later from his office for my semi annual check-up. Wow, they must think I am that character that plays Ding Dong in Sam Hui's Ace Go Places Movie. For those of you who don't watch HK movies you won't get it, but I think Ding Dong says it all. I hope he was pickpocketing my dental insurance company to give to the homeless, and then I might be willing to take my review back. Dun come to this place. The dentist doesn't care abt ur teeth. He cares more abt his reputation n money. Made a reservation for extraction. Didn't got an X-Ray lik they said they would have done. The dentist only took sum photos inside my teeth n told me that I need teeth cleaning and filling== and that's the whole pts he's talking abt. N at the end charges $30 for nothing but few photos? I knw that if I need filling but what I care is extraction. He told me I dun need. My now after two wk's my wisdom teeth is in pain. Thank u.
