Dr. Wu is an incredible dentist! My whole family and I have been going to his office for over 20 years! I actually look forward to going to the dentist because Dr. Wu and all the staff are super friendly and nice. I've had so many different procedures done by Dr. Wu, from teeth cleanings, cavity fillings, root canals, teeth whitening, retainers, crowns, and implants. I also got Invisalign for a great price and they fitted really well! Dr. Wu treats everyone with such care and carefully explains what to expect. The office staff is also so kind. Eileen and Barbara always greet me with a smile and ask me how my day is. I usually don't wait very long in the waiting room, but I enjoy chatting with them. Dr. Wu is great! The office is also very on point. They called you to remind you about your appointment. And your appointment time is your appointment time! No long wait after you arrive on time for your appointment. Dr. Wu does not talk too much and straight to the business. Dr. Wu is the best! Time for another review for this dentist! Unfortunately I had another bad tooth that needed to be extracted per my request given the option. Dr. Wu actually told me it was able to be saved but because of my other options and the pain I was feeling with it for awhile now I built up enough courage to go into the dentist. I am writing on behalf of my elderly parents who have used this dentist for the past few years: First off, there was this incidence where the receptionist had quoted my father one price on one day for some work done (was told it would be discounted if he paid with cash or check and would be more if he paid with a credit card) and when going in on a different day with a different receptionist working that day, was quoted a price that was cheaper! Also, don't know about you but whenever a dentist is all about recommending new procedures, it only feels like this dentist is trying to milk my parents out of their money. Finally, the work performed has been shoddy at best. It feels to me that he performs the work, again at a very shoddy level, has the patient come back only to perform more work for a money grab. I can't help but to think that he is taking advantage of people (and elderly at that) because he knows that they usually won't complain or question his methods. What's done is done and I'm not expecting my folks to get back any of the money that was thrown away at the expense of this dentist (around $5,000-$7,000) - just wanted to write this as a warning to all prospective patients: if you want a dentist that does shoddy work and will try to milk you for more and more unnecessary procedures, then by all means, please see this dentist! You have been warned. read more

My wife and I have been getting care from Dr. Wu since 6 or 7 years ago. We did cleaning, deep cleaning, root canal, teeth removal and all the general things. Recently we moved to another city and went to another Dentist. I was there to get my wisdom teeth removed. Guess what, with insurance, they were trying to charge me $1500+. Went straight back to Dr. Wu and he finished the work $180. Mind you, there was no wait at my appointment and Dr. Wu was kind, professional and darn good at it. Seems sloppy, my mom visited Dr. Wu with via our dental insurance plan. We have initially done an inspection then a follow on appt to have her teeth #22 pulled, on the day of operation he declined to proceed to remove the teeth, saying he did a visual and found cracking on teeth then referred us to another specialist, then I asked why didn't you discover the cracking on first inspection and have us go thru the month long wait to find out, he declined to provide feedback and walk away and turn his back on us, speaking about professionism. Writing this review on behalf of my elderly mother. The Short I accompanied my mom to her annual exam and cleaning. I was with her the whole time and witnessed everything described. For the dental exam, the doctor did not even bother to look inside her mouth and based his diagnosis and recommendations solely on the x-rays which he only casually glanced from a distance. The cleaning finished in less than 5 minutes. If you value your teeth, then go elsewhere. The Long The visit began with the receptionist/imaging technician taking an x-ray of my mom's teeth. Afterwards, the doctor appeared with his assistant. The doctor looked at the x-rays from about 6 feet away and casually reviewed them out loud while his assistant took notes. The notes formed the entire diagnosis and contained recommendations about each tooth. The doctor did not even bother to look inside her mouth to confirm the diagnosis. If you have experienced a dental exam before, then you may know that an exam usually includes a periodontal probe where the dentist pokes your gum to test the depth of each pocket and for signs of bleeding. None of that happened here. The non-exam proceeded directly to the non-cleaning. During "cleaning", the doctor tapped a few teeth with his scaler and a small mirror. There was no scraping or scaling. In less than a minute, the doctor applied a gritty toothpaste with an electric brush and then instructed her to rinse and spit. After my mom rinsed her teeth, she turned around and found both of them had gone. It was less than 5 minutes since cleaning began. She was puzzled and waited for them to return. After a minute, the assistant came back and my mom asked if that was the extent of the cleaning. To which the assistant quickly answered "that's it" and signaled us to the door. In my experience, a cleaning would usually consist of scraping every tooth and end with flossing. But none of that happened here. The kicker was, the doctor recommended extracting almost half a dozen teeth and getting a whole-mouth denture without further explanations. All in all, this doctor seems to treat patients like tool on an assembly line and try to perform as many procedures as quickly as possible. Don't be a tool, go else where. read more

When I had dental insurance, I found Dr. Kai Wu after my terrible experience with the Chen Kenneth W & Kim Sookhyun DDS Inc (see my list under Places I'd Rather Not Go) Pros: -open on Saturdays (so you don't have to take time off work) -appointments are on time!! -very clean (waiting room, dental area, even restroom) -staff is professional and friendly I don't have any cons, just some notes: -if you're a new patient, you have about 20 x-ray slides taken of your teeth -dentist doesn't really go over your exam, he'll have the front desk person go over costs for additional services (i.e. cavities, and what is covered under your dental insurance vs. the more aesthetically pleasing fill) -they've "misplaced" my patient file once, though they found it by the time it was my turn I always asked for the first appointment of the day or the first one after lunch so I don't have to wait. I would recommend them! They are located on Baldwin Ave on the opposite side of Hop Li, right near Friar Tux & Beard Papa. read more

I really liked going to this dentist however, my insurance was going to change so I started the process of switching to a new dentist and I realize the things Dr. Wu told me and my husband we needed we actually didn't. I was even referred to a periodontist who told me it would take $2000 to have a piece of my gums cut open so they could do a root canal. My husband was told he had a cavity when we got to our new dentist he told us these things were incorrect. The referral for the imaginary work I needed done turns out was $116 after ins for a consultation! I will not be back. Others might have had a different experience, but I am pretty disappointed that I went to him for two years and now I'm left questioning. read more

Even several years later, I still feel so bad and angry. So I decide to write this review. Several years ago, I accidently break one of my upper front teeth. I go to this dentist for help. He fills the broken one. After that, he begins to grind my other three front teeth without asking me. Maybe the tooth he fills is too short because now this upper tooth cannot touch my bottom tooth. My front teeth become not as sharp as before. The worest is I cannot say some chinese words well because some words need to use front teeth to pronounce. If you go to see this dentist, make sure he tells you what he is going to do to your teeth. Or just choose other dentist. read more

Update! 1/21/12 Thanks to my fellow yelper who reminded me to update my review! My rebate for the tooth brush came in and I got more than 50% back in the tune of $70 off a $110 electric toothbrush that kicks butt. Woo hoo! I totally recommend listening to music while getting a root canal, otherwise the drilling is loud and lasts forever! Dr. Kai said it was fine to have my mp3 player. (He can be a bit abrupt & socially awkward, but I think he knows what he is doing and he does it in a timely manner) He had to drill down my crown and then use this metal rod to ram the rest of it off. The technician helping was good at cleaning up the bits in my mouth with the suction. So important so you the customer is comfortable. A lot of technical stuff happened that I couldn't see. I was given prescriptions for an antibiotic and painkillers. I think I was done in little over an hour. The next day I had a mean headache that was helped my Vicodin. I recommend making sure the next 2 days you don't have to do any heavy lifting or extended periods of heavy thinking. Also, don't take antibiotics and Vicodin at the same time. Both have nauseous properties and man I was barfing up.... ew. MAKE SURE to take your antibiotic everyday otherwise, like me I had to wait an extra week to get my temporary crown. I still had a dull ache in my jaw which he explained could be where bacteria had entered my bone. EEK! So the next week I diligently took my antibiotics. A worry I had was that he had not taken a mold of my tooth before just taking it off like I had experienced with my previous dentists. I asked Joy while they were working on my temporary crown and she explained my tooth had too much decay etc so they used sort of a template for what the tooth should look like. I was super skeptical but I thought, "Cant do anything about it now!" All my worries went away when they put the crown on and it felt fine... PLUS he noticed my bite is off to one side and that my back teeth don't meet. ALL This time I thought my face was crooked or something (noticeable in pictures! :( :( ) and its just some sort of bite issue. The temp crown has moved my jaw millimeters but now my teeth are almost aligned. SO HAPPY about that! I go back in a few weeks when my permanent crown returns. With insurance my root canal was $60 and my crown (regular, not fancy smancy gold post) is $200. ...Original Review... My previous dental experience left me with a cracked tooth that ended up being a chipped tooth when a chunk of my tooth came off! I was livid because I had told my previous dentist and he dismissed my concerns. Anyways, so now I fixed that tooth and then I had to come back for a cleaning and comprehensive exam. I found out I have facial abrasions and I need a root canal due to a poorly done crown 2 years ago. I enjoy the professional manner of the office, the cleanliness, and receptionist Joy. I also found out you can brush too hard and bought a new electronic toothbrush for $110, but hopefully the 50% rebate will come into play in a few weeks. I'll update my review after my root canal/crown and other work. I hope it doesn't hurt too much! read more

I had a bad root canal job that required extraction...Dr. Wu not only took care of it, but his staff also was very professional in their recommendations. I have been seeing Du Wu for the past 6 years+. He is very knowledgeable and funny guy. I love his office would remind me a couple days before the appointment and then the day before. They seems to understand that people tend to get busy and forget appointments that were made so advanced. A couple times I had to bring in my daughter because I couldn't get a babysitter and they were so accommodating and kept her busy they my appointment. Someone else said no nonsense, and I'd have to agree. Brought my 90+ yr old mom here. Not a lot of friendliness or warmth from him. Dr Wu speaks only while wearing a mask, and is not loud enough for my elderly mom to hear. Plus he speaks impatiently, like he'd rather not be dealing with you. Brusque is the right word for him. The office is fine and to be honest, his dental work seems to be fine too. But he could use a little more social graces, esp to those who are hard of hearing. I will say the parking is weird, esp for someone who uses the handicapped parking. The space is right behind the back door, but they were not happy when I asked to use it so my mom wouldn't have to walk further to the car. read more

I have been a patient of the dentist for a while now, but the office staff that is there now are awesome, in particular the dental/medical assistant, Mrs Barbara Cardoza. I happen to come into the office the other day with an incredible tooth ache that needed a root canal. The appointments were all booked for the day, but staff were able to get me in asap, and Ms. Cardoza assisted the doctor with the root canal, she was nice and exceptional with her customer service skills, what a lady!!!
