We've only been able to eat here once and we remember the food being great. The last couple of months we've tried to eat here again, but every time we call ahead they won't take reservations/waitlists over the phone. A dozen of us dropped in at JD Campbell's for breakfast on Labor Day in the midst of a motorcycle ride. They have a big table and seated us there immediately. It was a little cramped but not bad - they did offer us a second, smaller table to ease the crowding but we opted to all sit together. Our server was pretty awesome. She handled our group and a couple other tables, and made it look easy. The menu is far more diverse than I would have expected. It all came out at pretty close to the same time, and the orders were all correct, and the food was hot! Great place to eat for breakfast after church! Wait was not long, they are very efficient with moving customers through. All of our food came out hot and fresh. I had the 'Good Morning' with eggs fried hard, bacon and 9 grain bread. It was delicious! My families food was all very good too. The restaurant is very well decorated and has a southwest feel to it. What a cool place. It's an old mercantile store that's been here forever and is now a restaurant. It's really a nice environment. It feels like you're somewhere other than near a big city. The servers are all very good, mostly young people with a nice, pleasant attitude. The kitchen is a little slow, however. I think that's the only fault of this place. I usually I avoid omelets because they're normally dry, but I went for the Green Chili Pork Omelet and I'm glad I did. It was very good. The rest of the people in my group enjoyed their meals and we're pleased with the homey feel of this place. I definitely will be back. read more

First time here and I'm so happy that we tried it. We sat on the patio and enjoyed a beautiful AZ spring morning. To start I ordered a cup of the mushroom soup that they were offering as a lunch special and it was the best I've ever had. Seriously, the best. I could have licked my bowl clean. From outside looking in you'd think little country store. It's got that small town neighborhood feel. I've been driving by for so many years on the way to the lake and never stopped until today. I love to support local owned businesses and was really looking forward to checking out their breakfast options. I was pleased to see a pretty good selection as well as lunch. I tried to come a while back on a weekend and the line was so long we went elsewhere. Today, late morning Tuesday there was plenty of parking and we were seated right away. They offer both inside and outside seating. We chose inside. The hostess asked if we minded sitting at the bar as it looked like they only had one server. Of course there were only two of us so we said sure. After a few moments looking over the menu I chose the make your own omelette that came with toast and country potatoes. My love ordered biscuits and gravy that came with country potatoes and eggs, but also added sausage patties. Everything came out quickly. Portions were quite large. Typically country potatoes are my least favorite of all time and I prefer hash browns these looked so good. They were browned well, crispy and seasoned well. Biscuits were large and fresh and gravy good. My omelette was full of veggies, cooked al dente and perfect amount of cheese. While the omelette looked a bit dry it was delicious and I had no complaints. The sourdough toast was toasted great as well. Service was a bit slow, but as I said it was clear there was only one waitress while we were there. The inside is very small with only about 15 or so tables. Some seat a large family, booths and tables as well. As I said earlier there is also a full bar for those Bloody Mary's and more. All in all a great visit. They also offer a farmers market the First Saturday of every month. Some items sold include fresh fruits and veggies, homemade baked good, Natural Dog Treats, Cakes and Pies. Hours on their website state the time for the market as 7:00am to 1:00 pm. read more

You know, I've been coming here for years. Food was always solid. Some things are outstanding like the Green Chili Pork and Pig Wings. So I was excited to go back after the remodel which turned out nice but not really that much different. The big shock to me was menu prices. Some items I clearly remembered had almost doubled. Now I understand inflation is on the rise, I get it. But almost double? That's a stretch. We ordered 2 BLTs and a Reuben sandwich. Both my mother and wife commented that the bacon was tough. Taxidermied critters, saddles, draft beer, and good food remind me of many country roadtrip stops and this place has the same feel. Unfortunately, it isn't a little store anymore--somewhere around 2012 they closed that and did their remodeling. They used to sell game meat and bait for fishing at nearby Lake Pleasant too, but they do have a few things on the menu like elk. I was expecting something like Cracker Barrel, but there's some interesting history to read if you walk around and read the clippings on the walls and some bricks came from their family's mercantile store. Nice space for outside dining--not off major noisy road so better than most. We didn't know they are only open until 3 and the servers were already cleaning up and bustling about so there wasn't much time for chatting and asking questions, but at 45 mins until closing we were pleased to be served. We actually came for the fish but they had run out, so my friend had to receive consolation from the chicken fried steak which came with homemade with-skin-on mashed potatoes and tasty coleslaw. I sampled all and they were delicious. Available Guinness certainly also helped console me and the Merc burger was the best 1/2 lb burger I've had anywhere in years! It was deliciously grilled and copious extras like the thick bacon, guac, roasted poblanos, pepper jack cheese, onion, tomato, and lettuce. Even a pickle! Fries were excellent too. OMG I absolutely love this place and wish we had one near home in California. Service was so great and friendly. The food was soooooo good. I got the corned beef hash, my 8 year old got a bison burger, hubs ordered the country fried steak burrito and our toddler ordered Mac n cheese.
