My first call went to voicemail, and he returned my call while I was leaving a voicemail message. On March 24, 2026, Zach and Craig came to our 1850 sf home to clean all the carpeting. They arrived on time and got right to work, bringing in their equipment carefully and putting corner guards in place throughout the house. One of the first things I noticed was the pleasant scent - it is very light and does not smell like chemicals. My usual preference is for no scent, but I found myself preferring this delicate scent. They were efficient and quick (but not too quick!), and the carpets looked very clean when they were through. The price is one of the most reasonable I have found in Reno and includes a military discount (thank you, Zach, for your patriotism!). Fresh Start is fairly new to our area, but not new to the business of cleaning flooring. We look forward to trying their tile cleaning service next. This was my first carpet cleaning experience with any local company. After two years in our new…read morehouse (with little kids), our carpet desperately needed a cleaning. I called and asked about their special for two rooms and a hallway for $125. The gentleman on the phone told me that rooms larger than 200 square feet would cost more (I forgot the actual price) and any special treatments would cost additional as well. He helped me schedule a time for the following week. About 15 minutes before the scheduled time, I received a phone call letting me know that they would be arriving soon. I wasn't there but my partner was there and said everything went well. We opted for the basic cleaning and didn't expect all the stains to be removed (for example, some chalk paint in the hallway). The carpet looks much better! The invoice noted the stains that couldn't be removed and the traffic wear pattern in the hallway. We had reasonable expectations for what carpet cleaning could do and are satisfied with the entire experience. Would definitely hire again for future carpet cleaning needs.

The cleaner walked through the rooms (two bedrooms, hall and living room) indicating the areas that needed special pet urine treatment. The job took about an hour and the cleaner charged over $300! The carpets were soaking wet for over 48 hours, smelled horribly of urine and a sickly perfume odor. The smell was terrible and the pet urine was still there. Awful job! About 10 days later my son hired a different professional, recommended by the residential management company where he lives, to redo Stanley Steemer's work. They did an excellent job! The urine and perfume odors are gone. Cost $150. Wonderful job! Stanley Steemer should refund the poor quality job in full.

Now our technician actually arrived early which was great. We did get a text saying when he was on his way. Victor from the Reno, NV office was our technician that day. He was prompt and professional. When he came in to look over the order there were some differences in the pricing. Not by his fault, but the fault of corporate. Once we worked out the differences and came to an agreement on the price, which was a little more than we had expected. But it is 1 1/2 year old carpet we had installed, so want to take care of it. Now we prepped the house, pre-vacuumed, picked up all loose furniture etc. Victor has clearly done this for some time. The outcome was fantastic. Now we have a little addition room with like the indoor/outdoor carpet that he was actually able to clean. We have no clue if it has ever been shampooed in all the years my in-laws lived in this house. When Victor was finished with it, it looked like brand-new carpet. All n all, I would give them 10 stars if I could. Ask for Victor. You could not even tell he had been there as far as his equipment clean up etc. Ask for Victor, he was excellent!! Till next year!!

I rented a Rug Doctor carpet cleaning machine 3 times in the past 18 months. Each time, I've also…read morebought the Rug Doctor "oxy-steam carpet cleaner", to a cost of $50+ poorer each time, and that is if I've returned the rental in the 24hr time-frame. My self-cleaning process has gone something like this: go to the grocery store, wait in a line, pay for a rental, roll a machine to my car in the parking lot. Load it in the trunk, unload it at home, find lots of hair leftover in the machine, clean it out first, yuck. Put the cleaning solution in, add the hot water, and get wet! Seriously, I'd fill the reservoir with hot water and solution, while spilling some of the mixture on my clothes or feet or both. Roll the machine with some number of gallons of cleaning solution to the offending carpet. Turn on the machine and prepare for vibration city. 2 minutes later, the cleaning solution is gone. Repeat the steps starting at filling reservoir, getting wet, then restarting the cleaning where I left off. Maybe I'd finish a room with solution left over, and when that has happened, I'd then decided I should keep up the process with another room; after all, I rented the machine for 24 hours, so I may as well maximize my rental. Repeat, repeat, but oops, the cleaning solution runs out. Then during the next afternoon, I can still feel dampness in the 'cleaned' carpet, and I'm saying to myself, "oh shoot, I've got to get that machine returned before the 24hr time runs out". Which usually means an extra errand stop for the day. Late Monday afternoon I realized I needed to clean the carpets in two bedrooms, and for one of the bedrooms, I had need to get it cleaned before Thursday. I contacted Wes at Five Step Carpet Care, asking if they had any openings on Tuesday or Wednesday. I heard back from Wes via email, then by phone, within the hour. This company fit me in the next day (Tuesday). They arrived at the earlier part of what they committed to. Before they started the cleaning process, I was given a business card describing their 5-step system, and was even more pleased when I learned they use non-toxic and biodegradable chemicals. The two bedrooms, (which were cleared of most furniture), along with a strip of carpet in another bedroom that I requested after they arrived, took only around 30 - 40 minutes, and only cost me a few dollars more than my DIY sub-standard process. By the end of the day, the cleaned carpet was not looking soiled anymore, and it was dry. I never had this kind of result with a DIY process. Plus no worries with logistics for picking up, dropping off, buying chemicals, or making a mess of myself.
