We have been going to Dr Jay for many years. He saved my husband's teeth from a gum disease. My husband had a crown that ended up being an implant all done by another Dentist. Like Dr Jay said sometimes that happens and never bad mouthed the other Dentist. I am terrified of Dental work Dr Jay has the hands of Angels in the chair. I have had an implant, crowns, fillings. First, I made an appointment over the phone and in order to make an appointment they charge a little under $100.00 to what they said secures your appointment. That was my first red flag! To be fair that was the cost to be seen for approx. 5 minutes with the Dr and one X-ray. After that they then made me another appointment to have 3 teeth pulled. That appointment is where the nightmare begins. When I went in I had a tooth that was decayed and was causing me such horrible pain but it wasn't one of the teeth the dentist had planned for that appointment. They took an ex ray of it but clearly the dentist was upset because the dental assistant kept going in and out of the room and telling me she was sorry and that she was trying to make dr lopez not be mad, her exact words. After several times of this happening she then said ok he'll do it but what other teeth do I want him to do so I told her and she said I needed to have the teeth he had planned for included so that became very confusing. While laying in the dental chair the woman who handles the money comes in with a statement in her hands that shows 325.00 for each tooth that needed pulling. $1300.00 in total! AND WANTED THE PAYMENT RIGHT THEN AND THERE!! Before they would proceed with the work! I understand paying for services done afterwards as I have done for at least 50 years! But I paid it. Dr lopez walks in and you could feel his demeanor and it was horrible!! The shots he gave were EXTREMELY PAINFUL!! The one tooth that was hurting so bad had a hard time numbing and he acted like I was lying about it and reluctantly gave me more Novocain. After he was done he said he'd be calling me in a couple of days to see how I felt, and you guessed it, he NEVER CALLED! I canceled my next appointment and have found another dentist that actually treats patients with respect and doesn't judge them! This was the most horrifying experience I've ever had at any dentist office in my life! Little did they know I had 40,000.00 put aside to have my dental work done. I stopped going to Dr. Lopez because he treated me terribly. He had me go out of my way to get a full mouth special type of xray that cost $300 out of pocket. Insurance does not cover it. Then he said he did not have the expertise to do an implant on me. He referred me to a specialist, oral surgeon, and assured me the xrays would get to their office. They did not get there. I called the xray place to see about getting a copy. They could not do that. I expected Bethany to work with them, but she did nothing to help me. I then asked to speak to Dr. Lopez. He called and could not understand why I was upset. I did not have another $300 to spend on xrays. He actually thought he treated me like family he said. My family would not treat me like that. So now I go to the best oral surgeon ever. His name is Dr. Owen Kaiser. He did not require any special xrays at all. I would avoid Dr. Lopez at all costs. I've heard similar horror stories from friends and neighbors. Bethany never checked with my insurance coverage. I had two front teeth recrowned and assumed my insurance would cover it. My past dentist in California and my current dentist, Dr. Stanley Baird (much better than Dr. Lopez) always checked and let me know. They never did the work first w/o checking. AMAZING!!! read more

Long story short.... Went there for the 5 star reviews ... Hope I could give a Zero rating. My first thoughts as a new Patient were ok.. Nothing special. But, they have coffee.!! When I met Dr jay Lopez I felt he does whatever he feels it needs to be done, which is ok; but I'm also there for what concerns me, and as a patient I express what I want to be done not be ignored and say I don't need it because you "thinks so.." Finally.!!! And most important besides getting ignored and Dr . Lopez making you feel like a whit . ***Make sure you have your insurance settle because the receptionist girls won't do a thing. They will make you pay out of pocket and not try to help. This happen to me when they moved to a new location and dates where screwed up and they didn't even try to help.!!! I have over $800 debt because of them. I tired and tired to fix dates and talk to them and nothing was done.. Very disappointed; hope this helps someone.! read more

My first dealings with this company were for my husband initially. He suffers from dental anxiety like I have never seen before. They claim they are there to help those who need help with keeping things calm and understood., but in my experience it has been nearly the literal opposite. They ended up refusing to work on my husband due to the level of medicinal cannabis that he intakes to fight both the tooth pain that he suffers on a regular basis and other pain. They claimed the drug they use as an oral sedative wouldn't work because of it. The research we did said otherwise and the cannabis would have been an enhancer to the calming effects of their drug they prescribe. Doing dental work this intense without insurance is nearly impossible. And even with insurance, since the refused to see him without an anesthesiologist present for every single visit at 1,500 dollars (does not include procedure costs and nor would it have been covered by insurance) The tasks set before us were financially out of reach. We were highly disheartened that his mouth was not getting fixed on the income that we did have saved to attempt to get his teeth back up and running. That failed avenue was truly dissatisfying. I then used their services personally. I have dental insurance and my teeth aren't nearly as bad off as my husbands. In all honesty though I'm not happy with the services they provided. I evidently have high anxiety as well and ended up crying nearly every time I sat in his chair. The Novocaine wouldn't take effect on my right side so the majority of the time I had to fight through the procedure of an Onlay the 3 times I had to go in to get it completed. It does look like I still have all of my teeth, and because I was afraid of crowns I went with the slightly more costly procedure to keep more of my own tooth. I still to this day can't chew on the right side of my mouth because of the sensitivity of their work. I've never experienced this much nerve sensitivity at any previous dentist before and I'm not sure as to why my tooth hasn't felt strong enough to chew with, but it's quite annoying. The receptionists are fine. Happy and caring, until the slightest bit of questioning of their practice or charges comes into play when dealing with their pricng vs. the insurance agreements and then they become buttoned up, terse, even ineffective at their job of providing the patient with information they need to be sure everything is financially alright. I'm quite done with this dentist to be honest. They're not what they claim. But they're alright if you have insurance and money to blow and you like sadistic dentists who don't have the time to care. This is not a dentist for the struggling family or individual at all. read more

It is true that I was never charged as I never rescheduled. Yes, my family emergency was CLEARLY stated at the beginning of the conversation. I believe Friday morning is 48 hours before Monday afternoon so I felt the threat of a charge was uncalled for. These facts in place, I am still mortified by the office staff's poor treatment of a loyal, long term patient. The main reason I no longer come to Aspen Dental is because of said manager's unpleasant attitude and overall angry treatment. I tried to reason with her with below review's statements about illness vs. family emergency. Was still treated punitively and she made it clear that she didn't care if I or my four family members ever returned to see Dr. Lopez. This seems to be a poor way to run a business. On a side note, Kelly, the hygienist, is amazing and I miss her. Felt quite comfortable with Dr. Lopez, also, and am very disappointed he seems to be compliant in this dispute. He knows me by name and we have always been friendly. But if you have to deal with a hostile front desk it is not worth it. I wish Dr. Lopez cared enough to address this with me personally instead of reply comments I suspect are made by said office staff. Apologies for this posting as another review. I read the comments of Vicki and I have to say that I am very surprised. I've been going to Dr. Lopez for many years and have had the opposite experience. Life happens, as they are well aware, and I've had to cancel and reschedule a few times. They are very willing to work with you and make sure they can get you in. I have had to pay the cancelation fee once and that's because I forgot I had scheduled an appointment. I understand that as a small business they aren't making any money when I don't show up. I was happy to pay due to my own negligence and thank Dr. Lopez and team for everything they do. If you are considering a new dentist in town, this is the place to go! read more

The most important thing is trust when it comes to a Dentist. I can trust that Dr. Lopez will do all the right things to care for my teeth and my health. My grinding had gotten so bad I thought I would destroy all of my teeth. He created a very simple (for me) device that totally saved my teeth. He always communicates with the patients the plan and outcome. HIs staff is always eager to help and it is obvious they care as much about the patient as the Doctor does. I feel compelled to update this review because now I have a comparison. I recently went to a local oral surgeon (Flemington, NJ) for a similar situation. He was equally competent as Dr. Lopez but all else was different. It appeared that this doctor and his practice was designed by a lawyer, accountant, and an engineer. More focus on legal waivers, insurance,and responsibility for payment than any health care situation I've ever seen . The dental surgeon was like a hyperactive robot and marginally communicative. This is such a contrast with my experience with Dr. Lopez who besides being extremely proficient and competent was also warm, helpful, and very communicative. I may have to rethink that 2400 mile commute to see Dr Lopez again. read more

Having recently locate to Tucson, I did not yet have a dentist. When I had a dental emergency, Dr. Lopez came up in a web search as a Dentist that has Saturday hours by appointment. Do not go to DR JAY R. LOPEZ for dental work! Would have given him zero stars if I had the option. He goes insanely overboard recommending UNNECESSARY treatment. I will never go back to him. I went elsewhere and found a good dentist in Tucson that I can trust. The difference in treatment recommendation out of pocket cost for me would have been $4,375.30 more at Dr. Lopez's! This is by far the BEST doctor I have EVER come in contact with. Seeing him and being treated by him was an extreme blessing, and I am forever grateful that I was able to be (and will continue to be) his patient. I was experiencing extreme tooth pain which would radiate from top to bottom for over a month. The pain was so extreme that medications would not help and I was in tears daily. I saw a total of 5 dentists, I was so desperate to have the issue fixed. Unfortunately all of the dentists (including 2 endodontics) that I saw had no explanation as to why I was hurting and they couldn't pin point the source of my pain. One of the dentists said that it was 'trigeminal neuralgia', another recommended that I needed one of my wisdom teeth removed, and the others said they had no answers as to what was going on. So after numerous x-rays, exams, and getting one of my teeth pulled out, the pain persisted and was not getting better at all. I was beginning to loose hope, and was uncomfortable beyond belief. I was recommended to Dr. Lopez, and he literally changed my life. His wonderful staff were able to squeeze me in for an emergency appointment, and the Dr. took his time to listen to me and do an exam. Dr. Lopez was able to diagnose my problem from x-rays that were done by the previous dentists (and the previous dentists couldn't diagnose me based off of their own x-rays!!!!). Dr. Lopez then made an appointment for me outside of his scheduled business hours and fixed my issue. You can imagine I was skeptical as to whether the treatment would be the answer to my pain, but it was. The pain is gone and it has been over a month and it has not returned. Dr. Lopez KNOWS HIS STUFF!!!! I always say, there are many average doctors, but only FEW true Professionals. Dr. Lopez is a Professional and his work speaks for itself.
