You always get taken in exactly when your appointment starts, not 15 after like most places. All of the techs are professional and friendly. They have great "bedside" manner too. If they have to bug you about something (always flossing for me), they let you know it's important without being a drag. Dr. Gerken is fast, efficient, professional, and gentle. He always manages to hit that critical dose of novocaine where the work doesn't hurt, but you're not drooling for the rest of the day. That's a tough target, but he gets it every time. He makes sure that your teeth are in perfect condition, but I never felt like he was trying to "push" products on me, as so many chain dentists do. I used to live nearby, but now I live by the U of A and downtown. Doesn't matter, the drive is worth it to go to a dentist of this caliber. I highly recommend!

I told her I could come another day if he was in a rush. She said d he had time. He gave me the option of numbing (never happened in my life). He referenced the time it would take to work (that's should've have been my second red flag. He put the crown on with no numbing ( I agreed cause I felt rushed and surely he would hurt me on purpose, right?!?). WRONG! It was some of the worse pain I've experienced in my life!! And he was frustrated and impatient when I clenched my teeth in pain and he couldn't continue his word speedily.

My dentist happened to be quite the funny guy (though not necessarily a good thing to be laughing when a sharp drill is in your mouth). However, finding a dentist you like is kind of like finding a good recipe for broccoli. No matter how delicate the way it's prepared, it's still broccoli! We all know the same goes for dentists: how well can you really like the person uncomfortably digging into your teeth and gums? Quick side note: I have a proposition- next to the word "oxymoron" in the dictionary, add an example of "fun dentist" Here is the one downside of this place. If you need to get your wisdom teeth removed, go somewhere else. I went in for this procedure assuming I'd be all drugged up or put to sleep so as to not feel anything. I even signed a paper saying a local anesthesia would be used. Turns out they don't actually use it. A couple shots of novocaine to the gums is all I got before they began. THAT'S IT?! Granted- I didn't feel any pain (well for the most part...) but come on you are tearing into my gums and ripping out 4 teeth. I don't care how much novocaine they shot into my mouth it was easily the most uncomfortable hour of my life. No pain, sure. But that doesn't mean you can't feel/hear the grinding, the vibrations, the hard pressure, etc. Not to mention the guy dropped one of my teeth down the back of my throat forcing me to just swallow it. On the bright side I was told it had some nutritional value! Want a pretty 'good' dentist? Go here. Need a procedure/surgery done? Go elsewhere.

She then puts the crown in my mouth without cement. When i asked if she was sure, she said I was fine and could always "just come back." One hour later, I eat a cracker and it falls out. I go to the dentist the next day (have to wait in the lobby for an hour) and finally get in the back. After getting in the back, I had to flag down a staff member to see me because I had to get my son. Finally, they get to work. She tells me to get off my phone so she can work, which fine, whatever. I tell her that the last lady didn't cement the crown in and she told me it was policy to not cement the crown in if it had a snug fit. Then, she asked me if I was chewing anything sticky and said that the office did everything right and it "must have been an outside influence." 2 stars because the lady at the front desk is nice. Upon returning to the United States a dear friend suggested I see Dr. Kirkland. I have never met a more compassionate and caring dentist. I was so embarrassed and ashamed of the condition of my mouth that it was hard for me to agree to see Dr. Kirkland. However, I swallowed my pride and made the appointment for an evaluation. To my surprise and delight I was treated with respect and without judgement. Following a thorough exam, full mouth x-rays, photographs and consultation, Dr. Kirkland was open and honest and said my mouth was beyond the scope of his expertise. He referred me to several specialists who could help and assist me in the restoration of my mouth. Dr. Kirkland spent over 45 minutes with me evaluating the condition of my teeth, gums and mouth. After his assessment I went to pay for his services and was told there would be "no charge" because there was nothing he could do for me. I am so grateful to him for his honesty, integrity and professionalism. Following Dr. Kirkland's advice I am in the process of a total mouth reconstruction. Upon completion of my surgery with implants Dr. Kirkland will be my dental provider. I would highly recommend Dr. Kirkland and his staff for all of your general dentistry needs. Five stars are definitely not enough. He went above and beyond and I am eternally grateful.

My first impression of Aspen Dental is that it is a great facility equipped with top of the line dental equipment. It is well kept up and the service is prompt. Before you know it, your name will be called up and you will be sitting in the dentist chair in no time. Now the staff: Heather in the reception desk is very friendly and helpful. She has a very sweet voice that makes you feel welcome. Then I got to meet DJ (dental assistant)- He took my x-rays and made it very easy. He explained to me step by step what he was doing. Keeping me informed at all times is a big +. Thanks DJ Second, I met Paola the other dental assistant who was also very sweet. And last, but definitely not least, I met Dr. Levy. She is professional, knowledgeable, attentive, fun, energetic, efficient, and just a great person that makes you smile, ha ha (no pun intended). EDIT Okay all the…read morecaring and promptness does not excuse that the dentist I saw sent me on a wild ride to get a root canal that I did NOT need. And I knew that I didn't need it cuz I had had a clean bill of healthy roots in the last 2 months. And when I went to my appointment 2 days later at the endodontist's and they took x-rays, I got to sit there for a few minutes looking at them on a monitor. Even I saw my own healthy roots and was like I hope this endodontist isn't going to do any work. When he finally walked me through the x-rays he said that I didn't need the root canal. But this dentist at Aspen was like "you're gonna need a root canal". Listen, in a pinch this place might be good for cleanings and fillings, I don't know. What could be improved? Language is everything. Dr. Martin, if you're not sure, don't say you know. Just recommend specialist evaluation and leave it at that. Very caring and prompt service from making my appointment over the weekend for a semi-emergency type of treatment to the in-office care. Saw Dr. Martin since my usual dentist was out of town. My only star deduction is that they do not have as state-of-the-art equipment as my usual dentist or the dentist before that. I had to put on the vest for x-rays. Not a total dealbreaker and better than witnessing the fact that Banner Hospital at the UofA has dot matrix printers printing your information out. Other than that, my visit was pleasant. Staff was very helpful and kind.

Warning: I spent over $6K for dental work and now I cannot use my teeth. This has been an absolute…read morenightmare of an experience that no one deserves to go through. I went in for a treatment (3 fillings, 3 crowns). I was sent home with 3 teeth that were twice their normal size and jagged. He drilled and filled my cavities, but "forgot" to shave/shape them. Pieces of filling were falling off in chunks in my mouth for the next 2 weeks. The office was not concerned unless it was my temp crowns that were falling apart. When I went back to have my permanent crowns put on (and his unfinished work completed), it was so painful removing the temporary crowns, he had to numb me. He never took any x-rays or looked any further into why I was in so much pain. He just shot me up with novocaine and cemented the permanent crowns on. I was told I could eat whatever I wanted, but my first meal came with excruciating pain. The crown was not placed correctly. It was much too long. I called the office, and they had me come back for a bite adjustment. I was told to give it two weeks, the pain won't go away immediately because I probably bruised the nerve. Three weeks later I called the office again, as the pain was no better. I was referred straight to an oral surgeon for a root canal without any further evaluation (after being told I did not need a root canal). There was zero compassion for the pain I was experiencing, or the malpractice that occurred in their office. I politely asked for a refund on the one tooth in the amount of $1,666 (since he refused to look at his work that was causing my pain). They refused to refund my money unless I came back in for an evaluation after they refused to evaluate the issue. I could eat anything I wanted to before I let this man touch my teeth, and now I cannot eat anything but soft foods. They let me suffer through the holidays like this. That's how much these people "care" about their patients. I have contacted my attorney, and we are pursuing legal action as a result of these personal injuries. Save yourself the hassle, and choose a different dentist. Please don't end up like me! My teeth are bigger on the right side than they are on the left now. I will be looking into veneers to cover up this embarrassing new look he gave me once I get my crown fixed. I had pretty teeth before I came here, so this is quite stressful and depressing. The office gave me a treatment plan stating that my dental insurance would not cover all services,…read moreI asked Clara at the front desk why it wasn't covered and she told me that it was over my annual max. Clara sent me an affirm link to apply for the loan for payment prior to services being rendered. The loan amount was over $1,200. I later recieved an EOB from my insurance stating that I should owe a total of $250 for services. I shared the EOB with Clara and she stated that the claim was filed under a provider that was in network with my insurance although I received treatment from an out of network provider. I was never told that the provider was out of network, until after the services were rendered. I spoke with my insurance company and Clara and she said that it was on my treatment plan. I have reviewed my treatment plan multiple times, and nowhere does it state that I was seeing an out of network provider. Clara said she will resubmit the claims to reflect the provider that I saw so that the EOB would match the loan amount. Clara got very aggressive over the phone, I'm sure that the insurance company has a recording of the call. In an attempt to embarrass me Clara stated "I know you are lost your job, but I hope things get better for you". I am fully employed and not sure who she was referring to but this is no way to speak to patients. Now, when dialing the office phone there is a recording stating "This has been identified as likely a scam. It is advised that you hang up now" prior to dialing out to the number. There is another review stating that they did something similar to someone else. I would suggest thinking twice before booking here.

I am in and out with a clean smile every time. They send me a birthday card every year and greet me by name when I walk in. I have recommended a ton of people and instead of giving me a certain amount off of work (like other dentist), that actually gave me a hand crafted gift and gift certificate to the movies. Very thoughtful, especially since I dont need additional work and that would be pointless to have as a gift. The interior comes off as a bit "old" but their equipment is standard and does the job. I also love that Dr. Davis and I went to the same college :) Go Tigers!
