My girlfriends and I went to JayDees last Thursday for a music gig, which BTW is awesome. It's put on by my friend, Joe Ricco - once a month, every 2nd Thursday (I think). I love the music and friendly locals in the bar. I MUST ADD; the bartender Cindy, for some reason doesn't like "pretty" women. My friends and I sat at the bar for about 15/20 minutes until she finally helped us, and this was after she looked at us about a dozen times, got on her phone about 3 times and we still had NO acknowledgement from her! We finally called her out and asked her for a round of drinks. Every time we ordered another round of drinks, we had to tell her, she never asked! After being there for 3 hours, listening to some awesome music and 3 rounds of drinks, she cut us girls off! Not to mention, we are good tippers. We ended up leaving this bar and headed to Barkley's in So. Pas, where we had absolutely no problems and friendly service! Cindy is unfriendly, has zero personality and is a definite women hater! Every time I have been to this bar, she has always ignored me and other patrons that I taken with me. On a positive note; the occasional/part time bartender, Esther is awesome...she was at the bar that night as a patron and asked Cindy if she could use some help, so Ester helped her serve some of the patrons on her day off! I say fire Cindy and hire Esther to take over or hire a new friendly bartender. Next time I frequent the bar (if ever), I will be sure to call before and ask if Cindy is bartending, because I WILL NOT and my friends won't go back and pay money to this bar, only to be ignored and cut off by Cindy! read more

This is a great regular type place that is now becoming increasingly rare in Los Angeles. Just casual people, playing pool, drinking drinks and eating snacks. With the auto dealership next door, you would never know the whole world inside is completely opposite of a brightly lit boring street area. Huge parking lot with plenty of parking. Met up with a friend for drinks. Ordered my favorites Vodka/Cranberry. They were not weak...actually quite good. We tried to order food but the kitchen wasn't open yet at like 4pm. I think the bartender said it opened up again at 6pm. They had chips and stuff up at the bar and music was just background I think. We left early so I didn't get to eat. Dive bar...dark cozy place to talk and have a drink or two. Bathrooms were clean. Overall a good place to hang out if you are in the area. read more

Ok Jay Dee... What is going on??? A "C" health grade??? How do you go from an "A" to a "C" in just 6 months? I don't recall ever seeing an establishment with a "C" grade. I won't even go in one with a "B"! And if it wasn't for me looking at your front window while I sat in the red light traffic, I wouldn't have known since I, as well as many others, enter through the back patio door. Nice little spot to have a few drinks. Mostly older bikers in there but I like it better than some college hang out any day. They had kareoke, old nostalgic feel to the place because of the decore. The bartenders are defenitely on it when it comes to customer satisfaction. Usually I need a glowstick and a megaphone to get a bartenders attention but not here. They keep it flowing so theres no need to be ignored by the bar people. $3 beer. Got a Jack/Coke for $4 nice and strong. read more

This night i went was Definitely not the place for excitement. Not even sure if fun was allowed. All the patrons sat at the bar staring forward, conversing quietly. Entire place was calm & quiet with a bit of akward. The jukebox music selection was limited but enough to where it is possible to find some good stuff. The bartenders were cool.Drinks were fair overall. Cash only but with a bank across the street it works out. Only had drinks no food, went on a wkend night 9- last call, the crowd changed which made good people watching but it never really 'got' busy. Good neighborhood place to have a convo ,a drink ,unwind and listen to some jukebox jams. I will return to try the food and grab a drinks in the future. read more

This is a hidden restaurant in Alhambra,IT's been there for more than 77 years, I never knew it existed. I just went there for thr first time and i love the hamburgers, the beer doesn't cost too much neither .. Many customers are locals, retired men with white beard and gray hair., they just go to vent their problems. Great atmosphere, plenty of parking in the back, Food is awesome with very reasonable prices, good location close to 710 Fwy. The main chef is very friendly and goes out of his way to make you feel comfortable. Overall an awesome tasty place to visit!!! read more

Hello to All! This is my first review and I chose this place because it is a local gem. Jay Dee Cafe, located on Main Street in Alhambra, Ca (across from Fosselmans, for thos who know), between Atlantic & Fremont. Don't let the dim lighting dissuade you, this is a dive bar, 21 and over, but the food is the real deal. The place has a charm not seen in new trendy places. What also sets it apart is the fact the food is great and it is inexpensive. Read affordable. Steak & Eggs anyone? 8oz RIB EYE with the works, eggs any way you can crack them, hash brown and toast. UNDER $10. What other place has that? I eat out a lot. Not just because I take my clients out for lunch, etc, but just because I feel like doing so and I guess I'm privileged to be able to do so in this economy. But who in their right mind wants to overpay for food? Seriously. If you're eating at a place that is popular and overcrowded with a long wait for overpriced chow, well then more power to you. In my humble opinion, I'd rather eat hearty food in the company of good folks who don't give a damn that you wandered in with "bed head". Again, it's not for the wannabe trendy set, it's for real down to earth people. read more

Big James greets you with a hearty hello and then starts to work his magic in the kitchen. the basic burger is anything but basic in taste. First time, last time. I have been living in Alhambra for over 10 years and decided to give this place a try. What a BIG mistake! Walked in and was not greeted by anyone. Stared at would be precise. I felt like I was invading an exclusive club...or maybe my husband and I got the cold shoulder since we're Asians. Should have left but decided to give this place a chance... The people who walked in after us had their orders taken first. I guess they were regulars since the server asked if they needed menus and they said no. Once they were taken care of my husband and I got some attention. I asked for a menu so that must of been a red flag that we weren't "regulars". Asked questions about the menu and the server had no clue what was served. She couldn't even say the name of one of their dish. Hmm... We waited for 40 minutes and nothing was served and the noise in the kitchen diminished. So, my husband went to the server to inquire and she simply said, "sorry" without making any eye contact. Surprisingly, we weren't too upset. I felt relieved since I had a bad feeling about this place and was scared of food poisoning. The bad experience gave us the opportunity to go to our favorite Peruvian restaurant. However, I couldn't let this business get away with the horrible service. Can't say anything about their food...Their water was meh. Wish I could give this place a negative star. read more

hahaha! jay d's (or so we call it) what can i say? one of the last remaining no frills bars in the area. i like it here! the drinks are cheap (beware of cheap drink headache in the manana though, know what i'm saying!) esp. the beers. the crowd varies. let me delight you with some of my experiences here: on one of our first occasions here one of my friends wanted to pay for her drinks at the bar with her debit card.........hahahahaha! i could've sworn the jukebox stopped and the entire bar looked at us. a barfly planted at the bar looked at my friend and just said "are you kidding, cash only!" on one occasion the crowd was pretty chill....then, two gangsta' couples walked in....everyone did this " oh shit" kinda look. everything went cool..went to smoke a cig on the patio with friends...my friend decides to sit in the seat that the gangsta chick was sitting (they were playing pool at the time)in. gangsta chick comes back and tells my friend she's in her seat....my friend stays put! damn, why lord!!! gangsta boyfriend comes over & says the same thing....my friend finally gets up but first looks at the chair and says " well damn, i didn't see a name on it! whatever!" i guess they didn't hear her cuz they went about their biz....pheeew, dodged a bullet. still chill, having a good time & then.........bam!!!!.............for some reason the gangsta guy got mad at someone the other gansta guy was talking to & bammmmmm! glass bottle to the back of his head.....like 10 feet away from me.........injured guy gets pissed & starts telling him "i'ma be back i'm gonna go get my gun fool!" starts walking to car! yikes! gangsta girlfriends manage to get boyfriends out (but first they all take a tumble on the floor as they are dragging their men out.)! phweee, dodged another bullet....literally this time!!! it was cool after that & everytime i've been there after that day. i think they have new management & the crowd is changing......for the better....i think. read more

Cool spot to meet for drinks and food. Heard about this place from a friend. You can play pool here as well but I only remember seeing 1 table. I was here at about 1ish on a Friday and I tried to order a burger but thir kitchen was closed. So guess it's a juice n gin diet. Had the most pleasant experience at Jay Dee's this evening. Meet friends there for drinks , but as we saw the parade of beautifully presented plates being served to guest, we could not resist and enjoyed the most wonderful appetizers and dinner there. This place has gourmet bar food that is absolutely delicious. For starters we had the chimichuri french fries that were perfectly crisp and seasoned. We also has the biggest, best tasting ,not your average panko crusted jalapeno poppers. Our last appetizer was an authentic guacamole with handmade tortillas chips and salsa. For dinner I enjoyed the meatloaf with roasted vegetables and fluffy mash potatoes. Friends raved about how wonderful their burger and chunky chili tasted. I will definitely go back to try some of the other great looking dishes. read more

I was in a hurry and stopped in for a quick burger. I was pleasantly surprised! Extensive menu of every kind of burger you could think of, not to mention breakfast and dinner. My hamburger was fantastic, and my friend's ribeye steak was perfect! Food came so fast and the chef even came out to check on us. I'll definitely be back for more! Arrogant fat Latina Trojan fans. Surly ancient bar flys. Tattooed white dude bros. You get every specimen in this dive. Most clientele of the sketchy variety. They serve a damn good burger here and the drinks are reasonable for the area. The atmosphere is so so. Came to watch football. why is Jay Dee called a cafe? it's a freaking dive bar, and be proud of it damn it; this place is on the outskirts of Alhambra on Main Street, as usual you will find the locals here who have been kicked out of Main Street, with all the new bars and restaurants opening, they only have one pool table (which sucks), BUT!!! (drum roll please)...their burgers are delicious, cheap, greasy (a million callories or more) but very, very good, the waitress and bartendars are real nice, the jukebox plays the usual rock/country music, overall a fun experience. read more

If you are looking for great food, look no further great burgers and lots of fries to go with it. Let me rave about my favorite dish, the Clam Chowder is amazing, My wife and I are big fans of Clam Chowder, we have loved it in Boston, Rhode Island, Annapolis and on the West Coast in San Francisco, we thought we could not find a better tasting Clam Chowder until we had it at Jay-Dee Café, WOW it is amazing they don't skimp on the chunks of sea food and just the right amount of spiciness that I crave, not to thick or to thin just perfect, everyone that I have taken to Jay-Dee to try the Clam Chowder end up loving it, one of my buddies wife had never had Clam Chowder and she loved it, the only problem is that after having the Clam Chowder there she will always compare to Jay-Dee's and she will be disappointed everywhere else. They only serve it on Fridays so make sure you go on a Friday early because it sells out and you will be disappointed that you missed it. The food is run by James and is separate from the bar, nothing better then good food and a nice cold beer. Its a cash only establishment so bring cash..... read more
