One of my favorites that I love. Randomly came on a Saturday night and although the place was empty, me & my friend had the best time. They have small bites in case you get hungry. It is more of Asian spot but everyone was welcoming and the ambiance was pleasant . Definitely will be stopping by again

Completely surprised and impressed by this venue. Came for a birthday and had a blast. First part of the night had singers/band on stage performing mostly Chinese songs. I didn't recognize any of the music but the people around me seemed to really love it. Around midnight DJ EKG came on and really killed it!! Prices seemed a bit high for the area but cheaper than LA, $300 for a bottle of Hennessy and $80-$100 for 12 beers. $100 minimum for a small table in the middle of the restaurant and $500 for a larger booth on the side. Crowd was mostly groups of friends and mainly males.

We checked out this place on a whim (on a wednesday LOL) it was hip-hop night and I've never had so much fun and be surprised at how much potential this club/bar/restaurant has to be so much more! It's definitely an experience and gives me hidden gem in plain sight - this place is a hop and a skip from target. You walk in and are immediately met with a statue of buddha to your right and several other sizeable statues and i mean I personally think it had a lot of design though put into it and I appreciate it. They have Liar's Dice (for anyone who is curious of what it's called) a game that I haven't played since living in San Francisco! The people working here are pretty chill (as long as you're chill) some days though they make you pay upfront which is fine but a little inconvenient when you order as you go. Shoutout to security who is always welcoming! the food menu is limited but it does seem to change based on the few times we've come. Don't forget to check-in to claim your free shot! Also shoutout to Hao, because he's been putting those music events together!

Definitely a cool spot that popped up in Alhambra. We came on a Thursday night and there was a live band playing from 10-12am then a DJ 12-2am. I was pleasantly surprised at how diverse it was inside and it was a cool crowd. Cover was $10. They have imported beer and they have some generic cocktails. We had the Freestyle cocktail and it was a Maitai and I would recommend that. They only had one bartender, so the service was quite slow that day. The only negative for me was they allowed smoking inside, which was ironic because they have a led sign up for no smoking. So if you're sensitive to cigarettes, be aware of that there's smoking inside. Large parking lot, so parking wasn't an issue. Overall, fun spot. Staff were also pretty cool.

A confusing, but distinctly Chinese experience that was missing a few key ingredients. Came with family after a Chinese dinner (karaoke in a private room, anyone?) and wanted to continue the "high" but was disappointed with the vibes. It feels Chinese. It looks very cool in pictures (and I hear in films etc as backdrop), but is it actually fun? Uhhh... There's really no cocktails. It's too loud to hear each other. It's too loud to even play games (we tried playing dice and when you drop them--good luck finding them in the darkness under weird shaped tables). It's dark and loud but then the tables don't really have privacy so you're kind of out in the open (lounges would be more discreet). I think it was too late for food and they didn't have snack options. Boo. The alcohol menu was like beer, wine (why Caymus? So random), and liquor bottles (but not a lot to mix with it). The music was decent but it's almost like you'd have to be on drugs to enjoy it. And even though we were a random assortment, not dressed to party, we still got invited to drink with others (at their tables). Why? Because they were missing the key ingredients in these clubs (that China always has): party girls. Clubs in China will offer free table service and entrance fees for a group of party people to raise the vibes and dance. Definitely needing that here. And some promoters. So night club vibes with restaurant menus and lounge seating. Pass.

Beautiful decor... lots of red and gold, cute artificial Sakura trees... art pieces on various walls and statues throughout. Feels like a nightclub but more calm than it looks. I appreciate the effort made toward ambiance. They offer limited finger foods and alcohol... good customer service. Don't like that they allow smoking inside despite all the No Smoking signage... band wasn't bad, particularly the male singer was pretty good... but why slow ballads? Why slow sappy songs... it was Chinese New Year on a Saturday night... but did appreciate the DJ... however disappointingly low crowd... where's the love at, SGV!! This place deserves more love... maybe they need to promote more? Consider marketing to non-Asians too... and hire a more diverse staff... if this place was located in DTLA, Ktown, Santa Monica or West Hollywood, it would be lit. Location is everything. In any case, appreciate the hospitality!

This place is a hidden gem!!!!! We just hosted our parents' anniversary dinner here and this place has got it all. It's a modern Chinese vibe with a stage, sound system, lounge booths with easy to order food with QR code. They were very accommodating to our large party, food was ready in a timely manner, & they kindly delivered on all requests. Thank you, Jianghu, for making this night special for our parents.

Love this place. Really great music and cool vibes. Feels like I'm in ancient China except with food and dubs. The sound system is amazing.

Came here to see Madeye Moody play on a Thursday night. Wasn't sure what to expect and I am leaving kinda confused as to what this place is supposed to be. The place is definitely themed and well decorated. The drinks were a good size and not too expensive. The service was also great - really friendly and attentive. I don't know if it is just because it is a Thursday night but the place was basically empty :(. I guess I just don't really get what they are going for. There are a ton of tables since they serve real food here, but they have a DJ and clubbing lights. I don't really see a defined dance floor either. Overall, a really cool place but would probably only come back for the band bc they were great!

I have been way too busy to keep up with my reviews lately, but I felt compelled to write one for Jianghu Bistro. I came here this past Friday night (9/10/21) and had a complete blast. This might be my new favorite bar in all of Los Angeles. The vibes and atmosphere are truly one of a kind. I believe this club/bar/restaurant just opened, but you wouldn't think so based on the service. I couldn't believe how quick and efficient the ordering/payment process was, or how fast the food/drinks came out. All of the servers we interacted with were very friendly, helpful, and accommodating, as well. We arrived around 10:15pm, and most of the tables were still open. It did start to fill up a little once the DJ started, but the space itself is huge, so finding a table here shouldn't be an issue (at least for now, while this place is still brand new). Every table seemed to be having a great time. The energy/ambience is really on point. The music started to get a little too loud as we were finishing our last round, but the DJ was good. My only real complaint about Jianghu is the pricing. 4 small bottles of Tsingtao came out to ~$42 (after tax/tip), which is about $10.50 per beer. They are listed as $8 on the menu, but they charge an automatic 20% tip on every order. I didn't see any IPAs on the menu. There is a small discount if you buy beer by the dozen, which most of the tables were doing. If it wasn't just the two of us, we probably would have done that. Aside from the drinks, the food here is actually surprisingly great for a late night spot. I thought the spicy beef dish that we ordered was exceptional, though again, quite pricey for the quantity. Between the decor, atmosphere, drinks, food, and impeccable service, I loved my first experience at Jianghu Bistro. I really cannot wait to come back. I only wish I lived closer, and that the prices were just a little bit lower. Each table also comes with a fairly simple dice game (I forget the name), which I hadn't played since I visited Chengdu. It definitely added a lot of fun. Next time, I will come with a larger group.

I have never been to a club/bar with food this good! I love how authentic the food is and how they aren't afraid to add dishes that make it authentic like pork ears and duck heads. The Dan Dan noodles are to die for and the dumplings are really good as well! They often have live performances as well. I love the decor and general quality here! Definitely worth checking it out!

Went to a standup comedy show and it was disappointing. Granted they tried to make it interest with its decor but the show is bad. No one was funny. It costs $50 a person with advertised with meal included but the show only ran an hr when it supposed to be 2 hrs. I guess I should feel lucky given how bad the "comedians" are. I'd give them a pass since it's first time but cannot excuse the restaurant . Saying $50 with meal but all we got is stale beef fried rice after waiting an hour and a half. The show was already done for half an hr by that time. They also only bring it out because we asked about food multiple times. I wonder if the rice is leftovers because the beef is dry as jerky. The rice is salty. I don't know how the restaurant is normally but buyer beware. That's all I have to say

We went to see their jazz night and the dark atmosphere fit perfectly with the music. The music was good and seems to feature local musicians which is inspiring in my opinion. I believe tickets were $15 a person for a table and $10 for general admission. They had a Yelp deal which was for $15 for $30. We went for the table and essentially got 50% off by using their Yelp deal. I wouldn't say sitting at the table is completely necessary unless you're ordering food. The venue is fairly small, and you'll get a good sound wherever you sit. They allow you to order food at the clubhouse which is a nice treat, dinner and a show, ya know. They'll give you a number to place at your table and will bring the food out when it's ready. However, don't expect a full-on server to be present. If you need something make sure you think of it before you're done placing your order. Once you get your food, chances are you won't see that server again. The food wasn't bad. My husband and I split a burger with fries and an order of jalapeno poppers. I don't think people go here for the food though. Overall, it was a nice and reasonable option if you're interested in local music and looking for a weekday night out. Tip They do allow you to bring in your own wine and pay a corkage fee if that's something you fancy.

Yesterday, I went here again, not knowing I was going back to the Halloween stomping grounds I once monster mashed in. This visit was more fun as I felt like I had partied in a club nestled in the after-life word that Coco invited us to imagine because I attended El Velorio, here. El Velorio is a celebration of Mexican culture, specifically the art and step of Dia De Los Muertos. I arrived 30 minutes early, to Quiet Cannon (where club Lit sits) and paid 20 dollars for parking. Once I entered, the club space was dead. There were a few people here and there, I bought the tickets, but did not really understood what I signed up for. I am the type of person who sees something advertise gets tickets and then sees how the night will go. I am open to opportunity and engage with chance when it comes. A bit after the 7 the show began. The opening number was a dance by Aztec dancers, scored by a beating drum. The dancers were in full custom, feathers and all. Later in the evening, as I danced, I felt a caress on my neck that felt strange, not good nor bad. It felt like a tickle and slither, like a playful snake stretching on my neck to find its comfort spot. I turned and it was a black feather from a Calavera custom. My mind was arrested when I saw these performers dance. It was beautiful in a quiet way. I wanted to know what the dance called for? Saying that there dance called for rain would be reductive, but, I had no other thoughts to conclude. I hope that their dance called for something good that every person in Lit could carry for a better tomorrow. After the Aztec dancers came an all girl Mariachi group. I did not get their names, I mean no disrespect, there was simply a lot going on. I am not a Mariachi fan, but this Mariachi group was innovative, not only because they were an all female ensemble but because they sang melodies I could recognize. Forever, I will carry the memory of an all female Mariachi group singing 'Girls Just Want to Have Fun' on a night where a party grooved to Mexican Culture, which now is also part of American Culture. One of the staff members of club lit supported the group by placing a microphone near the instrument of the musicians. Now the melody of the cello, could be heard better. It was a moment that made the night more magical because it was a human to human moment scored by classical notes. After the Mariachi I viewed a small gallery of art. It had some standout pieces but on the whole the art gallery was a good attempt. There was this picture (that I clipped and can be found in the picture section) of young girl with flowing hair, the color of different shades of water. The moon was full and high above her. Her eyes were light blue, her dress translucent and light gray that was somehow also blue and also somehow the wind of the night wrapping her. The title of the piece was unfinished return. I felt like I saw the Llorona healed. Like she was no longer a spirit of pain, longing for her lost children. She was a spirit of rebirth that offered waters to wash pain away. So her lament turned into splashes of redemption. See her eyes and know the woe you carry become part of water, in its different forms, and for a moment know a pause from pain. One of my favorite parts, of course, was La Catrinas. The women in Calavera paint, with hoop dressed that are full of theatrical flowers, and other macabre details that in sum make the woman look like she got a full makeover for her day of death. My favorite Catrina was the one that was dressed in a wedding dress that was in full black, with details, like a headpiece that showcased a studded skull. Her makeup was on point, it almost made me forget that I was looking at a human dressed appropriately for spectacle. I zoomed in on her makeup, when she was not looking, and, in my opinion, the resulting picture looks like a portrait. I view it and I feel a small chill, not because I am an artist but because I helped immortalize her efforts that spoke of hours of intricate makeup work. After all the visual experiences, I began to danced. I felt great joy jiving to a nearly full dance floor full of people some dressed as Catrinas. At one point, the song 'Oye Mi Amor' blasted. And a Catrina in full garb and makeup danced on the stage, leading us in movement. We were not dong Zumba, but still we sweated, laughed and groove to the rhythm of Latin flavor. I could not help feel alive, and fully in the moment, which can be a a treasure for many who spend too much time in their heads. This place offers substantial bump and grid, and spectacle. I would definitely return to this place, especially when it is associated to a theme night.

You can see some fun acts here, of course these change everytime the events held. There are several restauants in the square itself so you can dine there and get a good view of the whole thing if you're on the patios of the restaurants. You could also just mingle in the square with other people who will be dancing to the music. Since the square is closed off some of he restaurants had booths out that were serving small bites and drinks. Think spicy tuna handrolls and kirin beers from sushi roku. And there was also another vendor selling mexican food, like tacos as well. Prices were reasonable for these vendors. Like 3-4 dollars a handroll and 5 bucks for a beer or sangria. You cannot take alcohol out of the square. But you could take a flask in if thats how you roll.

KCRW? Never heard of it…read more Name an indie band? That's related to the race car, right? When it comes to indie music, I know virtually zero. I only discovered KCRW's Summer Nights music program after becoming enamored with the band Mr Little Jeans by accident maybe three weeks ago. Free performance in Pasadena? Duh, of course I'll be there! Here are my secrets to success for future shows at One Colorado: 1. One Colorado is a retail block which technically doesn't have an address apparently. Use this address for the iPic Theater instead: 42 Miller Alley, Pasadena, CA 91105. The entrance to the theater opens on the courtyard where everything is set up. 2. I usually park in one of the major structures in Old Town (which top out at $6) because it's easy and I'm lazy. Here's their info: http://www.oldpasadena.org/info.asp 3. It pays to go about an hour early to get a seat up front if that matters to you. Even if you're in the first row, it probably won't mean anything later though (see below). At least you can have some drinks and relax with your friends. 4. Il Fornaio sets up a cash bar in the courtyard. If you want to use a card, walk into the restaurant and order from the bar. Let them know you're at the event so they'll give you a plastic cup instead of glass. 5. Remember I said getting a good seat only kind of matters? For a long time, security was pushing crowds to the back where it was standing room only. At some point they just gave up and everybody rushed up front. You now have a choice to either leave your seat and join them or not. If you want to see the band, the decision has been made for you. Run forward quickly, even if it means you get separated from your friends; they were too slow and that's not your fault. I thought I saw a guy spinning with outstretched arms like Zangief to make a space for himself in the crowd. (You probably shouldn't do that though.) KCRW set up a really fun event and the crew had a blast. We'll definitely return for future performances. Cheers to summertime and beautiful Pasadena!

They have…read more4 different concert programs that include Uncorked (concerts in unique venues, for example, a small concert was in the Rose Bowl Locker Room last year according to a member we met), Free For All (free concerts for the community), Sound of Summer (an amazing concert series performed during the summer at Cal Tech) and KIDS/IQUE (concerts thats geared towards youth). My husband and I went to the Summer Of Sound Jazz Genesis last Saturday (the 2nd concert of a 3 part series during the summer) on Beckman Mall Lawn. We sat in the reserve section, Table G4 (tickets are $50 per person). We ate before we came and brought some drinks, fruit and dessert to enjoy (this is a bring your own food and drinks type of concert... alcohol is welcomed. There is also a cash bar so you can buy a drink if you forget to bring some with you). These two people who sat at our table (each table sits 6 people, but we only had 2 other people sit at our table, which was nice to have a little extra room) were very nice and are members of MUSE/IQUE and told us that we were in for a real treat for tonight's concert (as we told them it was our first time checking out this event). The concert itself was a beautiful nonstop 90 minute musical performance. Towards the end of the concert were some dancers and also some interesting visual effects that accompanied the music well. For this concert, the theme was songs from the famous Leonard Bernstein (American composer and conductor, who composed songs for the musical West Side Story for example). The musical talents and featured singer was truly amazing! I was just wowed from the beginning til the end of the concert and wished there was more! Now I just wanted to mention a few things. That even though these concerts (outdoor) are during the summer, it actually was rather chilly around the time when the concert started (7:30 pm) and wished I had brought a blanket or a warmer jacket with me (they do sell blankets here by the way). Also restrooms available are portapotties. I thought they were descent and didn't have any problems using them. However, it seems that the water ran out towards the end of the evening, as my husband said the toilet he used did not flush and water was coming out very little for him as he tried to wash his hands (but when I had used the restroom earlier in the evening, running water was available). With all of this intel that you now know of this event, make sure you make MUSE/IQUE's Sound of Summer program part of your summer plans in the future because this event should not be missed! (The next one will be on Saturday, Aug 29, Part 3: Westside Story).

The show I selected was "Moving Pictures" http://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=7ijQmFXZiGioSDvKIOxWTw&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw which featured cellist Mike Haimovitz and his energetic style of playing. Honestly, I'm not familiar with Mike Haimovitz's work nor the pieces that were to be played when I selected this date, but that's the excitement of it all, isn't it, when a new experience is laid at your feet!? I parked the Toaster, scampered across the street, followed the marked path, and eventually found my seats (Section A, Row H, Table 3, Seats 1 & 2). http://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=hCgB6SGUPEb0C8tZbd0cBA&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw Although you're allowed to picnic and bring whatever you wanted to drink or eat, I already stuffed myself at an earlier event so I was good...with the exception of dessert which I bought an oatmeal raisin cookie for myself and the entire table ($2.00 ea.). http://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=etzZn1KGT_4T6HZQ175l6Q&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw Now, on to the music! The 38-member orchestra of Muse/ique was led by Artistic Director and Conductor Rachael Worby. She had a very warm and welcoming demeanor about her as we was playful with both the orchestra and the patrons. The band was equally playful, crafty, and energetic. Matt mixed in well with the orchestra and a special introduction appearance by actress Wendy Malick and vocalist/songbird, Allison Iraheta. The performance was a magnificent 90-minute nonstop auditory of the senses. The crowd seemed to be into it that ranged from kids to the elderly. Service - From the highly-present parking staff, to the hosts at the entrance, the ushers, and the women who worked the snack tent, all was good. Top rate! Parking - A separate large parking structure with plenty of stalls was used for general (i.e. FREE) parking on Wilson Ave. just off the actual campus of Caltech, with a short pathway walk to the lawn area. VIP parking was also available (cost unknown) if you're so inclined. Atmosphere, décor, ambience - You're outdoors on the flat Breckman Mall Lawn on the Caltech campus with a multitude of round tables that sat six patrons on wooden white chairs. Each section was easily designated and labeled to find your seat. You'd better be the friendly type because you were paired-up with other patrons at your table. The sound system was really nice and fit the relatively intimate confines of the area as you're situated between two buildings with the stage at one end backdropped by a rotund structure. There were plenty of monitors in case your direct view was obstructed. I found one snack tent at the back end of the lawn and noticed a wine table once I entered the lawn area (I believed they sold by the cup). Attire - It was totally casual, so if I weren't coming from an earlier event I'd normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops...but make sure to have a long-sleeve top just in case. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my first time experience with Muse/ique and wished them the best for a long and prosperous tenure as another outdoor music option in Los Angeles. Sure, you had the world-famous Hollywood Bowl and Greek Theatre just to name a few, but if you truly wanted an intimate feel, this was for you. I found very good value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (total bill was around $12.00 based on the food I bought; no tip required), but I planned to return in the very near future. And, they accepted my credit card of choice...AMEX!
