Saturday nights usually aren't my thing. But a coworker was…read morecelebrating their birthday so I hauled myself out to HP for celebrations. I was expecting to make an appearance, stay the polite amount of time, then bounce. That is not how the night went. At all. Firstly, I was given a Paloma to drink which is very nice. So I was chit chatting and relaxing on the patio with some other folks from work. However, when the friends decided to roll through and we started dancing, that's when the magic happened I hail from the time of yore with folded notes in class and calling for the time on the house phone. I'm old, y'all. So when there's music at a bar, unless it's a flashback night with indie sleeze or other ancient songs, I'm at a loss. I don't know who was DJing that night, but holy shit did that person transcend time and space with the fucking jams. Ranging from 90s house to modern cumbias this dance floor was fucking lit (or whatever the kids are saying nowadays) and we were sweating and dancing our asses off. It wasn't too crowded, the vibes were immaculate and I cannot want to come back with other friends and try again.

You can find dance parties featuring a wide variety of music styles and eras, comedy nights, Drag shows and brunches, burlesque events, Karaoke, and a warm neighborhood atmosphere. There is a back patio that is usually open, and there are vendor events there on most weekends. The staff are awesome as are the security guards. If you live in Highland Park count yourself very luck. If you are from out of town you need to plan a visit. Check out their schedule and get over here!

I haven't tried the food (though it is tempting), but the Asian-inspired cocktails are delicious. The vibe is awesome as well -- great seating, pool tables, and an arcade in the back. Ended up at The Goldfish and walked into a spot that instantly felt like we weren't in LA anymore. Place really leans into that Thailand vibe. Nick was behind the bar and was super cool. Walked us through the menu, gave a few drink recs, and just made it easy. While waiting, we took a lap around the place and checked everything out. Tons of little details everywhere. You can tell someone really put thought into it. Nick mentioned the owner actually goes to Thailand often and brings stuff back for the restaurant, which makes sense once you see the space. There was one cook in the back handling everything and bringing plates out fresh. Food came out hot and honestly hit. We ordered the steak pad see ew, chicken fried rice, fried shrimp rolls, and drinks. No complaints. Glad the burrito line was long or we probably wouldn't have found this spot. Definitely coming back, feels like a good date night place.

But maybe it is also because I emailed them too late? Besides that, my friend and I tried to do a surprise birthday party for my partner on the weekend. Come prepared because the wait can be long! The grand star for making this even happen is Melanie, she was super helpful and empathetic hearing my stressful mess as this was a last second resort. She told us 2 lane's aren't guarantee to be next to each other since there was a long wait but would try her best, understandable it is the weekend. Thankfully it all worked out we played for about 2 hours before our arms gave out. My partner was so happy to be here and spend it at Highland park bowl. Our server Carlos was also fantastic and gave us recommendations on what to order. They had this peach pizza that was so divine, can never go wrong with a classic margarita pizza. For a bowling alley I honestly did not expect their menu to be this tasty! I will say their drink menu is decent. They have a nice pool room with some arcade games, so you can never really get bored at this establishment. We all had a great time here no complaints we will be back and try again with there party email.

Hands down, without a doubt, best bowling alley food I've ever had in my existence. I'll start with the pizza because pizza is my favorite food. I was hesitant because I was at a bowling alley and I guess I've never had good food at a bowling alley until now. But when I looked around at all the pizza being served to different tables I just had to try it. I ordered the pepperoni pizza, and honestly it was sublime. I loved it. It was thin, crispy crust, good sauce, good cheese, good pepperoni. I devoured it. This pizza is better than most pizzas. I enjoyed it just as much as I have enjoyed Wildcrust, possibly enjoyed it more. Simply put, Highland Park Bowl makes a great pizza. Also got the calamari. Truly didn't have high expectations, maybe because I was at a bowling alley, but this calamari was shockingly good to me. Way better than expected, and would 100% order it again the next time I'm here. Additionally it was a pretty good sized portion. My wife ordered the burger and fries. She loved it. I tried it. I loved it. Fries were amazing. Would order it again for sure. The ambience is very cool. Had no idea this place has been around for like a century. Loved the vintage feel. So much character. Staff were super friendly. Although I think they may have been short staffed when we went. It seemed like there was only one server taking care of the whole place. She was really nice though and our food came out surprisingly quick. Came at 5:30pm on a Thursday and parked on the street right out front. Street parking is 1hr up until 8pm I believe. We were in and out of there in less than an hour. I timed it haha. Loved coming here and will be back sometime!

Not only is there a wide variety of music, but they carry an impressive amount of top tier Japanese whisky, bourbon, rye, scotch, gin, mezcal, tequila, vodka, rum and more! They can make just about any cocktail, but they have some great highballs and signature drinks ranging from $14-$20. I tried the Goldliner, Japanese Old Fashioned and Nitro Espresso Martini and they were all delicious and well balanced. The bartenders are all really cool and service was pretty quick. The disco ball in the lounge area, the wall of vinyl and old photos of iconic artists give retro vibes. My friend DJ'd the night I stopped in and played nothing but 45s of classics for 3 hours. Gold Line would be my watering hole if I lived in the area!

Not only was this place fairly easy to find but I also really like to see that people attending the show were granted free parking! Just one block away there was a corner lot with workers directing people to parking spots. A big thank you to the venue for making this happen as it definitely saves you the headache of having to find a parking spot. Plus it felt really safe to be able to park somewhere where there is a lot of light and people. After entering the venue, I noticed it was not very big but there was still a really good crowd there. The show sold out and there was still a lot of room in there, which I really liked. Nothing is worse than having to be inside a venue where everyone is crammed in there like sardines. They also have a big bar as you enter the second floor where they do the shows. The stage was also very up and close to the audience. There is pretty much nothing separating the performers from the people watching which I also enjoyed because it allows us to get a better view of the stage and performers. Additionally, the sound was also very good and I could hear everything clearly, from the piano to the backup vocals. Not bad at all ! Also, I'm happy the first show I got to see here was Mikel Erentxun. He played an amazing show and he really shows how he loves what he is doing and takes great pride in his music and work. I hope to come back here soon and see more artists play.
