Concessions on first floor
Coco G.

Our first time here! Bought tix online to see the new Captain America movie --Matinees only $8! Even in a Sunday, traffic can change any time so add 30 min to your commute (we cut it too close from Pomona and missed the first 15 min). Found a parking structure 3 min walking distance away. The theater is not much to look at from the outside but the inside has kept the old vintage feel (in a good way). Two staff working today for tickets and concessions. Only 6 theaters on site. Bathrooms clean and functional. Stadium seating comfortable. Sound system decent. A fun affordable place to watch new movies!

CHEEP, rundown funky joint to catch a second run movie. Used to be a glamorous movie palace and if you look hard enough there are little bits and pieces hiding. Theaters like this are a rare and special thing and I give them extra credit for the cheap hot dogs.

I love this place. Classic theater with classic prices. The staff is always very helpful. Parking lot in the back. Mini arcade with a claw machine. Clean bathrooms. Check their schedule because they play different classics all of the time. Please Always Exist. Thank You

Bag restriction (Jan 2024)

Regency Academy Cinemas in Pasadena is a discount theater with a giant sign stating "San Gabriel Valley's Best Value Tickets & Showtimes". This theater actually shows first run films (aka new & recently released films). [Parking]: There's a paid parking lot behind the building (Academy Center [right next to 33 N Catalina Ave] - $1 per hour up to $8 per day), but free Sunday street parking on Colorado Blvd & nearby streets. [Admission]: Only one employee worked at the concession stand and the same employee also handled all ticket purchases/scanning ticket QR codes. Bag restriction = one bag per person and no larger than a backpack is permitted. I was the only person waiting in line on Sunday afternoon and waited 10 long minutes just to have the only employee scan my QR code (I got my ticket via Fandango ahead of time). [Price]: $5.50 for matinees (all films starting before 6 PM), $7.50 for evenings, $1.50 for a hot dog, $5.50 for one large fountain drink, $5.50 for one small popcorn, $5.75 for nachos, etc. Please see the website for each classic film showing on Flashback Tuesday. [Atmosphere]: The small arcade area feels very 90's and run-down. This is certainly not the cleanest theater because the staff didn't bother cleaning up leftover popcorn and drinks from the last show. Men's restroom on the 2nd floor was closed on the day of my visit. Is this the best discount theater in the SGV area to see latest movies on the opening weekend? 100% yes, but this is also a perfect example of you get what you pay for. 2-star on the overall experience, but bumping up to 3-star due to unbeatable ticket prices.

Bed bug bites

Was bit by bed bugs at this theatre. Didn't know what was waiting for me in that theatre, if I had known ahead of time that there are bed bugs in this theatre then I wouldve never entered in! Even if the tickets were only $5.50 Its not worth it. Now I have a fear of being but by bed bugs in a theatre ...

Just saw "I wanna dance with somebody" and was so happy to see that this theater now shows movies that would typically take a month to be seen here. I love it!

Is the icee machine fixed?

Hello, we apologize for the down time for several days the ICEE machine was down. But it has been fixed a few days ago and it's COOL to see it working and to be served.

Does this theater have an elevator to the second floor? I want to take my grandma to a show, but she has trouble walking and cannot climb stairs.

It does have an elevator actually. Just ask any of the employees for an "elevator run" and they would be happy to escort you. :)

Sounds amazing... until you show up and it's already full... which was what happened. Our movie started at 6:00 PM, we arrived around 5:20 PM, and the garage was completely closed off -- they weren't letting anyone else in. Luckily, we found parking about 3 minutes away and paid around $5, which honestly wasn't too bad. We came here for the second part of our Valentine's date night and watched Wuthering Heights because hello... Margot Robbie is my favorite girl. I haven't been here in over 15 years and WOW -- I forgot how absolutely beautiful this theater is inside. The lobby is spacious, classy, and honestly feels kind of luxurious. There are pool tables, a full bar area downstairs, and spaces where you can hang out with drinks and good company before your movie. We headed straight into our theater and ordered food from our seats (also... water is complimentary, love that). We were seated in our own little pod -- super intimate with two seats, cozy setup, and yes... a blanket. It truly felt like rich people movie night. Shoutout to our server Jake, who was outstanding from start to finish. Great service, super attentive, and made the experience even better. Food-wise: The Boss Burger ($20.5) was a solid 8.5/10 -- hubby really enjoyed it. Although, there were no pickles or tomatoes in there even though it was in their menu. I ordered the Chicken Caesar Wrap ($17), and I'll be honest... it was the only downside of the night. It was a bit cold and tough, and the tortilla-to-filling ratio was a little off for me. I'd give it a 6/10. If the tortilla was a bit warmer I'd think it'll be able to hold onto the filling a bit better, but that was meh, for me. BUT the fries? Piping hot, crispy, and delicious. And Jake even brought us ranch, BBQ sauce, and extra ketchup without us having to ask twice. Overall, this was my husband's first time here, and it definitely won't be our last. We had such a great experience -- the ambience, service, and overall vibe were top-tier. Can't wait for our next cozy movie night here!

We did purchase beverages today due to heat wave to stay hydrated. They gave those Coke machines that give you at least 100 options with a touchscreen. The recliner seats were very comfortable and due to the 1.5 hour run time, nobody had to sneak out for a restroom break. It was a nutty, completely bonkers film and yet internally consistent and thought provoking. Excellent music, acting, and directing. I guess partly because I had zero expectations, I laughed aloud multiple times and was thoroughly entertained. It's what I would call a surrealistic dramedy maybe? I'm a loyalty member and one of the perks is a voucher on your birthday to be used for refreshments. We went to the "secret movie" last night which was terrific. Because the voucher was only good for 30 days I wanted to use it before it expired which is 30 days after your birthday. My birthday is April 12 so we were well within that time frame. The bar code wouldn't scan. Odd because our tickets scanned as they always do with zero issues. The wait became uncomfortable after two employees were unable to scan it and called a manager who still couldn't scan it. The voucher was for $15 and I wish that they had decided early on to just go ahead and process it rather than making us stand there and wait which they eventually did. C'mon guys, don't make this birthday perk uncomfortable for the guest, fix your system.

Pleasant, professional and efficient. After the final credits rolled, we stood up and saw the uncourteous "blue hairs" seated behind us had their popcorn all over the seats and chairs. But someone was standing by to get it all taken care of. Again, efficiency. Chairs were big, comfy and reclined. The screen image and sound were good. The lobby offered a wide variety of snacks. If we were sugary sweets addicts, or into snacks during a movie, we'd probably be quite happy with the offerings. Plenty of free parking all around this theater and easy in/out with the street light right there. I heard about the Tribeca Drive-In At The Rose Bowl last year during the first COVID-19 summer and was interested to go since I loved and attended many of the other non-drive-in outdoor cinema events. However, I felt it was still too early to be out in the wild while COVID was still raging on. Fast-forward to 2021, and Tribeca decided to return for a second season with COVID conditions slightly better than 2020 (the Delta variant continued to spread as of this review), so I gathered a few friends and excitedly checked this out for several nights to watch "Wayne's World" https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=E-DeGOiEzuvWmRAiDYrDvA&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw and "Purple Rain" https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=bfHeeYNqgJM86JCXf7C50g&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw. Was this worth the wait to get us all out of our homes!? PURCHASE General Admission Per Vehicle ($30.00 x3 + $5.00 fee x3): Purchased online (I believed the price was the same at the door the day of the event but possibly higher a fee), this was open parking so first come-first served although it seemed there might've been VIP tickets that placed you closer to the screen. You were allowed to be outside your vehicle but must maintain very close proximity. And upon check-in, you were handed information for which radio channel to tune in to https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=XFUe-mQef7rVwtwlWBgFfA&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw and how to order food through the DoorDash app https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=teK8iIeffho06nAUx5iFgw&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw. Chicken Kabobs ($17.00): This was one massive skewer of thick pieces of nicely marinated juicy tender chicken along with an assortment of sliced green bell peppers, cucumbers, and onions served with a side of spicy dipping sauce. I surprisingly bought this pricey food item which thankfully didn't disappoint except for a lighter wallet. This definitely filled me up for the rest of the evening but probably wouldn't order it again https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=XSb87k8V1Jm2M9QFQ8nVDQ&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw. Seasoned Curly Fries w/Jalapeño Cheese Sauce ($8.00): A massive amount of curled spuds I swore the basket it came in was either bottomless or somehow never-ending! The cheese sauce had a nice spicy hotness to it but ran out of it halfway through my potato plantation which was fine since the fries tasted fine without it. With a nice crispiness in each bite until you reached the bottom where they were softer due to the moisture, not a bad meal at all; but this was a lot of fries to deal with for one person https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=jGpOSdzS3xcrVAHv1AhH1A&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw. SERVICE The online purchase was a breeze. Onsite directional signage to the main entrance was minimal at best (located at Lot F) https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=-eJcQuflOlHPYLrAfvkyGw&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw. But once you arrived, the ticketing and parking staff, respectively, were friendly and helpful. The same could be said about the concession employees (there was a bar tent I didn't try), and directions to the restrooms were sufficient https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=6I83ppaDR1LdOP1daVViTw&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw. Both audio and visual systems were very clean and clear. I didn't recall any onsite ATM machines. Generally-speaking, everything was fine and ran smoothly but just needed more signage once you got off the freeway since there were so many lots on the expansive Rose Bowl grounds. PARKING (FREE) Plenty of parking on the makeshift drive-in Lot F - 'nuff said https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=HLvvHky_uciuzRD_iTTMvQ&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw. OVERALL Tribeca Drive-In At The Rose Bowl was a nostalgic fun time and would consider it again. The concept was perfect for the new norm of social distancing. Screen resolution is great - even on a Smokey Fire day at 4:30pm the LED jumbo screen is clear - only a few night dark scenes fade out a little during the daytime but not a big thing. They even do movie previews for about 15mins. All the covid precautions are put in place and well managed. Vehicles are even staggered and given plenty of space to get out of your vehicle to stretch if needed. A few even parked backwards to sit in the back of their open suv areas. Security staff riding around on bicycles and also to answer any questions. You can't beat this activity for $35 with two or more people while the theaters are still closed. On a hot Saturday evening, the outdoor cinema Eat See Hear descended upon Centennial Square in front of Pasadena City Hall. Dubbed "LA's premier outdoor movie, food truck, and live music event series", this summer-long traveling entertainment circus (since 2012) made its way across various iconic venues throughout Los Angeles with its unmistakeable 3 1/2-story tall inflatable high-definition screen deemed the "biggest of its kind on the West Coast". A self-contained event, you were allowed to bring your own chairs, food, etc.. Extremely pet-friendly with water bowls and treats placed throughout the venue, they tied themselves to the non-profit organization Best Friends Animal Society Los Angeles and No Kill Los Angeles (NKLA) to help with pet adoption. Would this nostalgic return and revamped idea of the drive-in movie pull at my sentimental strings to return for more!?: General Admission Ticket/Seat ($14.00 + fees) - Purchased online (priced higher at the door the day of the event), this was open seating, so first come-first served. Armed with a low chair (ABSOLUTELY NO TALL CHAIRS), blanket, cushion, and pillow to sit on just in case, I happily claimed a spot center screen slightly away from the crowd on the concrete road https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=Lxb9OOL4HaDWK3rIBs1Uaw&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw. Tickets also gained access to food trucks and live pre-movie music performance. Below were other ticketing options (things brought were the same): 1. Fashionably Late Tickets ($21.00 + fees - online purchase only) offered a limited quantity of guaranteed open seating tickets in a reserved area at the front of the house that allowed you to arrive at any time (hopefully before the movie started!). 2. Kids 6-12 Tickets (approx. $8.00 + fees) offered the same as "General Admission" 3. Kids 5 & Under Tickets (FREE + fees) offered the same as "Kids 6-12 Tickets". 4. Groups of 10 or more had group rates available. Live Music - Lone Kodiak with its "campfire rock" offered an intimate hush to their music that initially reminded me Of Monsters And Men with occasional hints of aggressive jabs. I wasn't a fan of the pre-recorded and sampled parts which seemed to be the norm these days for many live performances, but I always appreciated live music regardless. Food Trucks - Listed were the assortment of food trucks present: Belly Bombz, Jogasaki Burrito, Postcards CAS (see separate review of my purchase), Pudding Truck, and Vchos Truck/Pupusas. All accepted credit cards. Vendors - From Air New Zealand, JackFM, Subaru, to Showtime (who gave away chairs!) were among some who supported and had giveaways. Service - The online purchase was a breeze. There could've been more pedestrian and street directional signage to the main entrance on Marengo Ave.. Marked signs once inside led you where to set up camp. Both audio and visual systems were surprisingly clean and clear. There were the customary long food truck lines akin to L.A. traffic without the bad drivers. I didn't happen to notice any ATM machines for those who needed cash. Generally-speaking, everything was fine and ran smoothly enough once. Parking (Varied - FREE this instance) - With the venue's proximity to the Memorial Park Gold Line Station, I went Metro from my hipsterhood ($3.50 roundtrip). Otherwise, there were plenty of metered and timed street parking around the area (valid until 6pm), and numerous parking structures. Another option would be to hire a driving service like a taxi, Lyft, or Uber. Atmosphere, décor, ambience - A large mostly concrete venue (closed sidewalks and streets) with small sections of grassy areas (a few trees shielded you from the sun) towards the outskirts, it was everyone for themselves as the gates opened and throngs of guests flooded in! To the left was the smoking area https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=w8rU6nuy6NPkMbcsWlfxeQ&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw, and to the right were the food trucks and Porto-Potties. The stage was at the foot of the screen, but wished they had a camera that projected the performance onto the screen. Exposed to th elements, you heard random sounds from conversations, dogs barking, and vehicle traffic. No TVs but the aforementioned gigantic movie screen and live band. Attire - Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. Overall, Eat See Hear at Centennial Square in front of Pasadena City Hall was one of my favorite locations of theirs because of the easy access and beautiful backdrop. This concept was popular enough for others to imitate. The onsite staff were also very charming and helpful. I found complete value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $16.00; no tip required).
