Ever since the IPIC closed down, I was on the hunt for a new, local theatre where I can sit down comfortably for a matinee showing. I didn't have to search very far because the Landmark Theatre filled the gap nicely. Sure, it feels like walking a tightrope to balance my own drink and glizzy to my seat everytime and I didn't have my very own pod to cocoon myself in, but their unlimited refill soda machine and friendly concession/ticketing staff more than makes up for the luxury conveniences I was once accustomed to :~D. Also, they have the best all-beef hot dog and seasoned fries in the game (perfect plumpness, length, and flavor) and where else can I get a Coke Zero Cherry?!?! This Landmark Theatre location is the one I visit the most, and it's my preferred Landmark location. They offer a selection of the latest releases (including live Metropolitan Opera simulcasts), and they also show retro programming on Tuesdays. I can usually find free street parking in walking distance, and there's also a nearby city lot where you can pay by the hour depending on how long you need to park. The theaters have reclinable seats that are comfortable and plush. They also offer a selection of snacks and drinks (including alcohol) though I find their popcorn's texture to be mediocre. There can sometimes be some noise bleeding into a theater that's near a room playing a particularly loud movie, but I generally have a good movie watching experience here. read more

We received a gift certificate to go here and it's nice, small and quaint. No crowds, so it's nice. However, the food area needs more ventilation so that you don't walk in to too much food smell. The Mandalorian and Grogu was a fun afternoon matinee for my husband and me today. Action, drama, comedy, the triumph of good over evil, great special effects--it's got it all. Because I joined the Lamdmark membership, I got a $15 discount for my birthday last month and it came to $4.23 for the online tickets. Great savings! I had been looking forward to seeing I Want Your Sex at this Landmark on July 30, but instead left feeling shocked and humiliated by the staff's racist behavior. Before the 7:20 p.m. screening, I witnessed an employee named Yusef with dark curly hair and glasses make what I perceived to be a slant-eye gesture while looking in my direction. As an Asian customer, I found this deeply offensive and not reflective of a theater that showcases independent and foreign films. When I confronted the employee, he denied the accusation and made up a very obvious lie saying that his gesture was a different gesture regarding my appearance but I also felt that another employee and a nearby customer were laughing as I tried to address what had happened, which made the experience even more upsetting. I asked to speak with management, but I did not feel my concerns were handled appropriately. Instead of addressing the seriousness of my complaint, I was offered free popcorn and a complimentary movie ticket. That did not feel like an appropriate response to an allegation of racist conduct. During the conversation, the employee I confronted also walked away from me rather than continuing to address my concerns. I have been coming to this theater since it was a Laemmle, so this experience was especially painful. I have already contacted Landmark's corporate customer service and requested that they review any available surveillance footage from that evening and conduct a thorough investigation. I sincerely hope Landmark takes complaints like this seriously and works to ensure all customers are treated with dignity and respect. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this location until I know meaningful action has been taken. read more

Came on a Sunday night for a movie. Parking on the street was easy to find in front of Target. The staff were nice and the place appeared clean. Appreciated the little walkway into the ticketing booth. There were some customers in the theater, but it's not as busy as the big chains like AMC or Edward's. Got their Old Fashioned. The Old Fashioned and coffee came out to about $24 after tax and tip. The Old Fashioned was alright for a theater. The seat reclined. It was a nice theater experience. read more

I visited Landmark Theatres to see a limited run of Wake Up Dead Man as this was the only theatre showing it in the area. I was very pleasantly surprised! It was very clean, with large reclining seats. Even the bathrooms were clean! I'm not sure it it was just our showing, the time, or the location but it did seam like the visitors to this theatre tended to be older. This made this showing particularly quiet! So Landmark is one of our favorite theaters. They have great movies and often obscure ones which we love. I write this more as a teaching experience than anything else. I'm a loyalty member and one of the perks is a voucher on your birthday to be used for refreshments. We went to the "secret movie" last night which was terrific. Because the voucher was only good for 30 days I wanted to use it before it expired which is 30 days after your birthday. My birthday is April 12 so we were well within that time frame. The bar code wouldn't scan. Odd because our tickets scanned as they always do with zero issues. The wait became uncomfortable after two employees were unable to scan it and called a manager who still couldn't scan it. The voucher was for $15 and I wish that they had decided early on to just go ahead and process it rather than making us stand there and wait which they eventually did. C'mon guys, don't make this birthday perk uncomfortable for the guest, fix your system. read more

Great little theater next to Vroman's. I've been going since they took over the old Laemmle, but only to get popcorn since it's close to my office. Finally went and saw a movie there last week and was pleasantly surprised. The seats recline and were in good condition. There weren't any tables in the theater I was in, but I made it work with my popcorn. A couple of tips: -The ticketing person is also the concessions person. -You can't park in the Vroman's lot...but if you go out the back and across the street, there is a small paid lot next to a park. Overall a nice option for moviegoing! read more

Our first time coming here, and I was excited to get to see all of the Academy award nominated animated shorts in one bill. Plus, there was actually an extra one, so that was very cool. Sound and picture are good. Looks like they have a pretty extensive bar, and we joined their rewards program and the tickets were really reasonable. However, unfortunately, we probably won't come back because the seats are just terrible. There's something about the combination of the angle they're at, and the slippery fabric, that you literally just slide right off and onto the floor. They are adjustable but other than being able to kind of wedge your feet so you don't slide off, it wasn't really helpful and you couldn't really relax. Has a small bar with a nice variety of alcohol. The concession stand has refreshments and a decent variety of food to choose from. I love this theater but the seats are so uncomfortable! They slightly tilt forward and are too high. I always need to put the recliner on but the entire time I feel like I'm sliding forward. The recliner doesn't really make it much better and I'm usually fidgeting the entire movie. Honestly it feels like who ever designed them never sat in them to test out because the head tilt is awkward too. I usually have to sit with my legs folded up which is rude but the only way to make it through the movie. Sometimes when I shift around the leather squeaks loudly. I doubt they will fix this because these chairs are still pretty new. Also beer is too expensive. Staff is nice. Bathrooms are always clean. Wow how incredible is that on Tuesday you can watch a New Movie for $7. There is no better way to support local theatres, the movie industry , and local restaurants than to go to a movie. The seats are incredibly comfortable, they recline, they have foot rests, and the neck rests tilt. I originally set out to see How to Train Your Dragon (live-action) in IMAX, but by the time I finally had a chance, the format had vanished and most theaters had dropped the movie altogether. That led me to Landmark Theatres in Pasadena, which wasn't far out of the way and turned out to be a solid alternative. Though this was my first visit, I went ahead and signed up for the free loyalty program before buying my ticket. Within minutes, I upgraded to the paid loyalty program--the fee was reasonable, and I figured I'd likely return. Good call: I avoided processing fees, and my ticket was cheaper than expected, which made the membership instantly worth it. Since I had just eaten across the street, I kept concessions simple and grabbed a bottled water. The theater itself is small but modern, with reclining seats and charging ports at each one. The seats were generally comfortable, though I did find myself sliding forward a bit--a minor gripe, but worth noting if you're settling in for a long movie. Bottom line: Landmark Theatres in Pasadena might not have the biggest screens or the flashiest setup, but it's a comfortable, clean, and affordable place to catch a movie. Haven't been to the Playhouse7 movie theatre since it was taken over by Landmark. Located next door to Vroman's Bookstore, theres plenty of both street and lot parking close by. Popcorn was very good and they offer various flavorings like white cheddar at the condiment area. The Coke Freestyle machine is a plus for me. The movies are only preceded by a few trailers so start time is fairly accurate (unlike Regal and AMC which can push showtimes to up to 30 minutes later with all the ads). The reclining seats were a pleasant surprise but not as comfortable as the ones at Regal Paseo. Overall, nice movie experience, theatre shows latest mainstream releases and some eclectic indie films. I have lived around the block and around this area for over 30 years, frequenting this theatre through all the different ownership transitions. My most recent experience was shocking at best. I walked into the theatre with my husband waiting out front while I bought tickets in advance for a "short" film. I was greeted by a dark curly haired young man, with glasses on, initial O of first name. I said I would like three tickets to the animation shorts at 7 pm. He turned the screen he was using in my direction to look at the available seating. I said, "this isn't the seat formation for the film I am trying to see" as I had already memorized the handicap seat formation online before going into Landmark to purchase seats with my service dog. Employee "O" stated, no you f^^king did not" and flicked a work type cell phone device towards my body that bounced off my stock chest area and onto the ground. An act of violence I have never seen in any customer service setting ever. He stormed out from his register area and walked behind me to head towards the bathrooms while I leaned down to retrieve the device he flung at my direction in a fit of rage. I was so shocked I asked the customers standing next to me if they heard him use the F word, they seemed speechless so I went over to a blonde employee who claimed to be the on duty manager and told her what happened. She said they would look into it and offered a free concession when I retired back for the showing. I declined anything free. That wasn't a sufficient response. I got in the car in tears and my husband heard what had happened and called that same female manager and said no one should maintain a position at any job after such profanity and physical violence in the work place. She said HR was looking into it and that was it. After the movie she offered me free tickets even though we didn't want anything free, we wanted something to be done about the employee who behaved with profanity and physically inappropriate behaviors towards a paying customer. Even if I got the name wrong of the movie, his reaction verbally and physically was just insane to witness or to hear. I then called Chris who was supposed to be receptive to this incident and he referred me to "Nita" who has yet to return my calls. They clearly could care less that their employees behave in such a horrific manner and since it's been taken over with Landmark and new staffing, it's not remotely the professional place it once was. I just can't believe what I heard, as clear as day, "no you fu^^king did not" when I told him not once but twice that the screen he was showing me was of a different movie entirely and he continued to show me the wrong screen so I said "I told you it's for the animation short film" which prompted irritability, anger and a profane statement back to me. I will continue to demand some resolution to this with upper management at least return a call. I will write reviews elsewhere until they have handled this appropriately instead of just blowing me off or telling me "HR knows about this" what does that even mean? read more

The good: glad it's here, always willing to support indie films; they are especially hard to find anywhere these days! But, $14.50 a ticket? Really? The self check out kiosk was SO frustrating and didn't work, finally gave up and waited for popcorn counter person to purchase a ticket. Frustrating. The ticket prices they charge will repel, not attract more customers. And $10-$11 for a small bag of popcorn? These prices are outrageous, plus we found the seats super uncomfortable. Really miss the Laemmle ethic, vibe, prices, and their informative movie flyers listing all the indies coming soon and playing in the theater. So turned off by the big bar in the lobby, who drinks in a movie theater completely void of atmosphere? This Landmark theater doesn't know whether it wants to be a movie theater or a bar. read more

Great theater! Friendly staff, good food. We were starving so we got hot dogs in addition to our usual popcorn and fountain drink. It hit the spot. The seats are very fancy- they recline in about 20 different ways. We saw a matinee on a Monday so it wasn't crowded at all. We'd gotten our tickets online so we just showed the concessionists and they pointed us in the right direction. Parking was a little tricky. Most of the nearby spots are metered and say one hour max, so clearly not long enough to enjoy a movie. We parked in the Target parking deck down the street and were petrified that we were going to get in trouble- so we did make sure to walk through Target and buy something! Afterwards we enjoyed browsing Vromans bookstore- which is amazing. All and all a great experience! read more

You have people asking multiple questions ahead of you, complaints to the manager. A good example also is I order from concession and show the guy my QR code, and get told tkt guy/check in guy will scan it at the multi theater entrance. This is a charming theater in a wonderful area of Pasadena, and in the past, I've loved to make an afternoon of browsing Vroman's, grabbing lunch, then seeing a movie, but unfortunately I don't see myself coming back to this theater until a change is made to their seating. While the new-ish seats they've installed are large, cushioned, and recline (sounds like a dream, right?), they are positioned in such a way that while sitting, you're angled downward, forcing you to fight gravity to avoid sliding forward and off of the chair, even when it is reclined to its fullest extent. Both my partner and I experienced this during the last movie we saw at this theater, leaving us feeling sore and uncomfortable by the end as we had to constantly adjust to avoid sliding forward. It wasn't just us - at least one other person in our theater had the same issue, as he loudly complained about feeling like he was sliding off of his seat before the movie even started. I also see that multiple other reviewers have mentioned this same issue. It's truly unfortunate that an otherwise perfect little theater that we've loved for years is now pretty much crossed off of our list of go-to theaters because the chairs are so uncomfortable. I recently came here to take advantage of the National Cinema Day on August 27 ($4 movie ticket). I unintentionally picked this theater because it was the only theater with 1 PM showtime for my movie. [Parking]: NO PARKING IN THE LOT BEHIND THE THEATER AND VROMAN'S BOOKSTORE! I parked at a small and designated parking lot called the Playhouse Village Park (701 Union St, Pasadena, CA 91101) just one block away from the theater ($1 per hour). The website recommended the parking structure behind Urth Caffe Pasadena (44 S Madison Ave, Pasadena, CA 91101) with $1.50 per hour and $7 daily max. [Atmosphere]: A pretty small and intimate theater. I booked my seating spot ahead of time and I was surprised to discover reclining seats. I heard this theater can be freezing due to strong A/C, but I was able to survive the entire 2-hour showtime without wearing a jacket. Overall I had a very comfortable experience and this is actually not a bad alternative option to AMC Montebello (another local theater with reclining seats). read more

It is nice and refreshed. The theatres are smaller, but the reclining seats are lovely and comfortable. They keep the theatres VERY COLD (colder than other places) so make sure to plan ahead for that. Also, the food service leaves something to be desired. I would stick to things that don't need to be cooked because when I've tried to order hot dogs and hamburgers the staff either say they can't because they don't know how or they are just reheating something from a bag. There is a full bar and if it's closed you can purchase beer and other drinks at the regular counter. In terms of theatres in the immediate vicinity, it falls in the middle. read more

We went to see the new Mario Bros movie last night and had a great time at the newly remodeled Landmark. They did a great job with the interior, bathrooms and theatre with reclining seats. This was my first time at Landmark Pasadena, and unfortunately, it was a really disappointing experience. I went to see Superman, and about an 90 minutes into the movie, the screen glitched and froze. The film never resumed. What made it worse was learning from a staff member that they had already been having technical issues with an earlier showtime--but no one informed us before the movie started. If they had, I probably would've come back another day. They offered either a refund or a free movie voucher, but honestly, considering the situation, both would've been more appropriate. I understand things happen, but the lack of transparency and the way it was handled just left a bad impression. Sadly, I don't plan on returning. read more

I came with my boyfriend on Tuesday evening to see "Jaws" as part of the Tuesday night Retro Replay movie series. The theme of March was New Hollywood (mid-60s - early 80s) There was an intro before the movie which gave a little background and context for the film. I appreciated this as I knew nothing about the movie and it helped me understand things a little better. Tickets for Retro Replay are only $5 each plus a $1.25 service charge each, so it makes for an affordable date night. The rooms are small and only have a few rows of seating, so it feels more private and intimate. The recliner seats are adjustable for the head, back, and neck. You are unable to move the arm rest, so it makes getting close to your date hard. They are loud and squeaky when you adjust them. We thought the person in front of us was farting before we realized it was the chair, so you're kind of stuck where you are once the movie starts if you don't want to disturb others. The movie poster appears on screen outside the screening room of your film. I wanted to take a photo in front of it, but it disappeared when we got out of the movie, so if you're also looking for a photo opportunity, take note to do so before the movie. I purchased tickets online. The box office was closed so we went to the employee at the cash register for concessions inside and he told us to go to the ticket person further down the hall to check in. When we went to the ticket person, she told us to go back to the other guy, quite abruptly. I responded he told us to go to her and she said that was strange, but eventually had me type my rewards email into a device and we got in. Her tone felt very abrasive and confrontational and I wonder if she was new because of how she handled things. It left me with a bad taste in my mouth honestly, but overall a good experience at Landmark Theatres. There is a rewards program that is free to sign up for, so might as well do that and get some points. If you watch a movie I recommend popping into Vroman's bookstore just next door before the film. There is free parking beside the theater on Molino Ave and behind the theater on Union St. (2 hr limit before 6). There is also paid parking lots in the area. Do not park in the designated free lot for the neighboring businesses. read more

This is my favorite theater in Pasadena. I like that the theaters are smaller so I don't feel packed in like a sardine. The upgraded seats are really nice and I'm happy to see that they've added more variety in concessions. The staff is always friendly, the theaters are clean, and Landmark seems to attract a more respectful audience so I don't notice as many people talking during the movies as I usually see at the bigger chains. read more

I went a couple months ago to watch Megan with my sister. The theater felt like brand new! Our biggest surprise was when we found out that the seat are a recliner! The staff was great and friendly. We're confused about the theater number and one of the staff gladly escorted us to our seat. The theater is spacious and clean. I'm glad that we decided to watch a movie here.
