The happy hour menu is not as great as it once was, but it still has some decent prices on drinks. The margarita flight is pricey but really delicious. We tried several appetizer specials (fries, flatbread, and goat cheese croquettes) and all were very mediocre. I prefer this place as a brunch/lunch cafe spot. I'm here almost every morning for breakfast with the fam. They have the best outdoor seating arrangements - beats every other restaurant out of the park! It's sheltered and fanned so it's always cool and dry. Their food is always superb, and the menu seems seasonal. Beef stew was available during the winter, monte christo sandwich was available this spring (and I hope they bring this back), and now there's Quiche of the Day on the menu (which is absolutely mmMmMmMmmm delicious). My favorite is the veggie green omelet. It comes with a fresh and lightly dressed (oil and mustard seeds) arugula & grape tomato salad on the side. Every single dish is made fresh and even their pastries are off the charts (try the lemon muffin - it's worth screwing with my gluten sensitivity. Yes, it's that good). Make sure to pick up your drink order up from the counter before going out to grab a table. They have a hand washing station in the patio, along with sanitizing stations littered throughout. A dear friend and I met here to play catch-up, and we came here for a later lunch. There was the patio opened, but we decided to dine indoors - I was glad to see that the patrons were practicing social distancing, even though the tables/chairs weren't really placed strategically apart. You first order up at the front and they give you a number where the food is then served at your table. I tried their beef and and chicken empanada (these were pretty tasty, as the exterior was thin and crispy, rather than dense and doughy; the filling was seasoned well, and the spicy cream sauce that was served on the side complemented both of the empanadas), a lemon croissant (reminded me of a kouign amann; it did have a lemon flavor to it, but I think I prefer the usual ham & cheese or a butter croissant), and a watermelon lemonade (this was okay, but it was a little watered down and could have been more citrus-y). Staff were friendly but a bit reserved, and the cafe itself was bright and cheery. I'd love to check out their other bakery items as well as their lunch options. Java Nation, which opened its first restaurant in 2012, was looking for a good cup of coffee. They use only freshly roasted coffee and serve artisan coffees. I had a chai latte and it was delicious. There was a depth of flavor and expert crafting of my drink. Java Nation has a variety of delicious baked goods. My chocolate chip cookie was Amazing. It was soft, loads of chocolate chips and cranberries packed inside. The huge size means I have leftovers to enjoy today. The place itself is very charming and cute. There is a lovely bar in the back and they do serve wine and spirits. There is plenty of outdoor seating to accommodate a lunch or dinner service. I had the BLTA, that is their take on a BLT and they add avocado. The sandwich was good, but I thought they could have added some more bacon. Also, there is a spicy sauce that was on the sandwich, that I wasn't made aware of when I ordered it. I did enjoy my sandwich. My friend had the empanadas and she seemed to like those too. She had a watermelon and lemonade combination drink that looked very tasty. All in all, the service was very good, you order at the counter and they bring your food to you. Despite their name, our drinks were the worst part of the experience with service being the next. Thankfully the food redeemed Java Nation but the other components soured our brunch. Omelet was thin and bland, but the mushrooms and spinach were cooked well. Potatoes were crispy and salty. The salad was simple. A lighter dish that was crying for flavor. *Leek & Gruyere Quiche: came with a salad. Excellent, buttery crust with fluffy, egg filling. The gruyere was subtle with the leek being the star. Would order again although I would need at least two servings to be full. *Huevos Rancheros + Pulled Pork (+$4): although the pulled pork was standard, the base dish would have been a bit light without it. We were dining in but I also placed an order to go for a smoothie and some pastries from the display box. I was listening for my name but the music was loud and I didn't hear it. About halfway through our meal one of employees got my attention to tell me that my to go order was ready, so we both got up to grab it. My sweet sister in law grabbed my smoothie and I was getting the pastries but a random girl behind the counter snatched the bag essentially out of my hand and demanded I tell her what was inside. Doesn't seem like the kind of place that this is a huge issue but if pastry police is needed, might be easier for all to give customers the pastries at the time of sale instead of pop quizzing them 10 mins later. I really like Java Nation in Rockville, but I probably will not be having the crab cake Benedict anymore. Their service is always great, and the food comes out fast, which is why I was surprised that the eggs were cold in this dish. And I don't mean they had sat and got cold, I don't think they were ever warm. It didn't make sense considering how fast the food came out, unless they pre-make the eggs and refrigerate them which as much as I appreciate restaurant prep, eggs is one of the things I want made right then and there. It would also make sense since the eggs were not runny like you would expect out of a just made poached egg, I think the fridge had solidified the yolk significantly. The dish was tasty overall, although they don't use a traditional muffin but no big deal, but it would have been much better warm. I will stick with the huevos rancheros, those are always really good. Don't have any complaints about this place, I was just craving a crab cake Bennie today but it missed the mark. While waiting for our food we noticed a large number of little birds hanging out above us and on the tables around us looking for food. Our food came out and was very good! Highly recommend the food! Unfortunately then my friend and I saw something fall into my home fries. On closer inspection we determined that a bird had pooped and it landed in my plate. Rockville location is in the old Addie's space next to Dittles. Nice outdoor space. Coffee was good. The latte was a bit too sweet for me, but did have a good flavor of lavender if you got some of the buds. The tuna sandwich was very tasty and had a nice pickled purple cabbage. It comes with a bag of chips but I opted for the truffle fries for a few dollars more. It took a bit long for me to get my order. My friend ordered the same without the fries and got her order about 9 min before I got mine, and I ordered first. But overall good place for meeting friends or family out with outdoor space. Overpriced and overhyped. This used to be our go to coffee place until we made arrangements for my child's birthday lunch. I attempted to make a reservation but was informed, reservations are for certain days only. No problem. I called twice, then spoke with Christian and made arrangements for a party of 7. I also informed him, my child was bringing a birthday cake. He stated this was fine.. and they would put 2 tables together to accommodate a party of 7 at noon. When my child arrived the day of her bday luncheon, the tables were not set up and Christian denied we had the conversation, just days prior! The coffee art is beautiful and it tastes so good! Margarita Flight - margaritas are my fave cocktails so I was very excited to try these and it didn't not disappoint!! Love the different flavors - my fave is the strawberry basil, followed closely by the lavender hibiscus. The wild berry and the classic were also yum!! French toast - if you have a sweet tooth for breakfast, this is the dish for you! Toast, sugar, Nutella, strawberries, syrup. Yum!! Quiche - so good! Well made and just delicious! I have always heard of Java nation but never knew where it was. This place is a little farther down Rockville Pike near White flint Mall. I first went there with a few of my friends and was surprised at how cute this place was! There was a both an indoor and outdoor seating area. It was cozy like a cafe and lively like a restaurant. I got their special latte - lavender rosemary latte. I was CRAVING a lavender latte and this definitely hit the spot!! (They also have milk alternatives there too). The lavender flavor was subtle and it wasn't too sweet either. My friends got the margarita flight which is cheaper during their happy hour times. I went back a second time because of course I had to bring my boyfriend there on a cute cafe date. I got the chicken pupusas which was pretty good! I felt that the pupusas itself felt like it was lacking flavor. It tasted pretty good with the pickled veggies and sauce. My boyfriend got the Java nation burger. We both felt it was also missing something. In all honesty, it tasted like a regular burger we could've made at home..oops. The fries on the other hand...were seasoned perfectly with a hint of old bay and was crunchy and soft on the inside!!! I loved their fries. The margarita flatbread was delicious. It was so cheesy and they were generous with the tomatoes. They drizzled a little bit of pesto on it as well. They have the cutest outdoor seating area with plenty of tables and hanging string Edison bulbs, and there are always people sitting outside (with enough space between tables to make it socially distanced). I ordered an iced vanilla latte and the gruyere mushroom omelet, and my boyfriend got the egg sandwich and strawberry smoothie. The omelet was super tasty and I was sad when my plate was empty. It's definitely a leisurely place where you can set up camp with work for a little bit if you'd like, and they do take a little while to bring out the food and drinks. Stopped by the other night to support local businesses. They're currently doing take out deals with a $15 breakfast deal with 2 pastries, 2 drip coffees, and 2 (HUGE) egg sandwiches. This was what we ended up ordering and I upgraded from a drip coffee to a golden latte for $1.50. The drinks were great and the sandwiches were a big bang for the buck! I also ordered them over easy and they were perfectly done. As for the pastries, the chocolate cookie was amazing and the almond croissant was alright. I wouldn't recommend coming here for pastries, but everything else is pretty solid. They also had a $65 3 course take out meal for a family of 4 with 4 different protein options.
